Go Figure! A Visual Archive of Character Options Figures
Full Details of the campaign can be found at www.indiegogo.com
Stretch Goals:
At £21k, we’ll produce a brand new A2 fold-out poster covering the Torchwood figures produced by SciFiCollector! Adding in these figures means that the Go Figure! campaign will include details on the 5” scale figures released for Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. The poster will be included with all orders at the Wave One tier and above.
At £23k, we can expand the Sonic Screwdriver supplement to include the other ‘role play’ toys produced by Character Options, including Vortex Manipulators, Fob Watches, Voice Changer Helmets and more! All pledges at the Mint on Card and Collector’s Edition tiers will automatically receive the expanded edition. We’ll also produce a special folder to house the supplemental books, keeping them neat and tidy on your shelves!
At £25k, we’ll produce a supplement book covering the Character Building range of construction toys! Available at the Mint on Card and Collector’s Edition tiers, and bringing the total pages across all the supplemental books to well over 100!
At £26k we’re back in our traditional favourite VAM territory. All packages at hardback and above will get a new VAM DVD, featuring GO FIGURE: THE NEW WHO GENERATION. This is a brand new documentary by CONNOR ALLEN looking at the Character Options toys through the eyes of the fans who love them. Touring the country to meet with collectors and fans of the range, Connor will explore their stories and try to uncover just why these toys inspire such devotion and love. Expect a few other little treats in there too. You can find full details for the documentary below!
At £28k, we’ll expand our postcard offerings to include four new designs, recreating iconic Radio Times covers with action figures. These postcards will be added to the Wave One tier and above.
At £30k, we’ll introduce a final supplemental book to the Mint on Card and Collector’s Edition tiers, covering a range of Character Options other Doctor Who products, including Time Squad, Micro Universe and the 10” and 12” figures – and yes, that does include the Slitheen walkie talkie…!
Go Figure! – A visual archive of the loved Character Options produced range of Doctor Who figures from 2005-2024.
“The TARDIS is under attack by the Doctors’ enemies! Slitheen, Cassandra and Sycorax! But don’t worry, the Doctor can fight them off with his Sonic Screwdriver! Oh no! The Daleks have joined the battle! Time to get out of here…” Doctor Who Toy Advert, 2006
The ultimate collector’s guide to Character Options’s 5.5” Doctor Who action figures from 2005-2024!
Of all the merchandise launched by Doctor Who’s return to television screens in 2005, Character Options’s 5.5” figure line has been the most popular and enduring – with new releases still exciting collectors after almost two decades. From the original Ninth Doctor Dalek Battle Packs to the most recent online exclusives, the figure range has encompassed characters from across Doctor Who’s entire history.
ROUNDEL BOOKS is pleased to present the ultimate collector’s guide to the range, covering more than 600 figures and over 300 distinct characters. With gorgeous new photography and detailed information about each figure, giving you the story of the most successful Doctor Who toy line of all time (and space).
This lavish book explores the range through brand new high-quality photographs by Doctor Who collector and YouTuber ‘Stetson Doctor’, RICHARD LLOYD, who also provides detailed release information on every figure highlighting the evolution of the range across an 19-year period. Over 50 of these figures are presented alongside their original factory prototypes, giving a unique insight into the production process.
Split across four chapters, covering all the figures released between 2005 – the book’s publication in 2024, each chapter features a new introduction from CHRISTOPHER HILL of thespacemuseum.net, providing context and background to the range.
But there’s more! Both the Hardback and the Deluxe Edition of Go Figure! also include more than 80 pages of stunning ‘mint on card’ images, showcasing the figures as they appeared in the original packaging. These photos have been newly taken for the book by Christopher and Richard, highlighting the way the range’s packaging has changed over time, providing a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
And an extra special treat, the Hardback and Deluxe Editions feature complete turnaround images of 10 fully-painted prototypes which never made it to release.
Edited by GARY RUSSELL and designed by WILL BROOKS, Go Figure! is a must-have in any collector’s library.
Quotes:
Gary Russell: “It’s looking at the history of the 5” range of Character Options’ Doctor Who figures. Starting at the very, very beginning with those early Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper figures, and continuing right up to date in 2024.”
Gary Russell: “We’re following the story of Character Options from those very first early figures which came out during the Tenth Doctor’s era.”
Richard Lloyd: “We’ve got the photos, and then a little bit underneath each one, details about which set they were released in, or which waves they were released in. We’re having the TARDISes, the Playsets… everything that’s been released so far.”
Gary Russell: “It is informative. It’s an absolute guide, in detail, to every single figure.”
Will Brooks: “Presenting it chronologically means you get a real sense of nostalgia for the entire range. Especially when you get to 2008, and you’ve got that first wave of classic figures. Just the sheer thrill of being able to go and find a Colin Baker figure in a shop, next to a Sea Devil and a Zygon. I’d forgotten how quickly they went from that to the First Doctor, Second Doctor, all the Davros sets and the Sontaran sets… It’s been a trip down memory lane to go back through and remember how much fun I’ve had playing with the toys. Because let’s not pretend that we don’t play with them!”
Gary Russell: “We live in this golden age where we have this stuff. Because they never had this in the 60s, the 70s and the 80s. If we’d had toys like this when we were growing up, instead of just a Denys Fisher Leela – which did not look like Leela! – I’d have been so happy. It’s so nice to be able to explore these figures and bring them all together and realise how many there are and how brilliant they all are.”
Richard Lloyd: “My generation grew up with these figures. We played with them, and made little figure adventures, or took photos of them. As you say, for an older generation… they’re the figures they never had. Whether you’ve got the figures or not – if you’ve got one or two of them, or you’ve collected all of then, now is your chance to see everything all together, in one place.”
Gary Russell: “One of the other sub-sections of the book is prototypes, showing some of the figures that never made it into the shops. We’re also going to include what we call the ‘Rainbow Figures’, where they use different colour plastics.”
Will Brooks: “The main book is available in two formats. There’s the paperback, which has all the figures, with the lovely pictures and Richard’s great text. Then there’s the hardback, which also includes all of Chris Hill’s packaged figures and the unreleased prototypes.”
Gary Russell: “This book is as complete as you can possibly imagine. It’s an absolute celebration of everything that Character Options have done over the last ‘nearly’ twenty years. This book is going to be everything you ever need about these beautiful toys.”

June 22nd, 2024 - 3:56pmHey Guys, Is payment taken straight away or later when the Funding Target as been reached or even later when the Book is ready for despatch? Used my card this time (I only usually use Paypal, but I don’t think that option was available). Anyway I just checked my account today and no money as been taken yet?
daz
June 22nd, 2024 - 7:10pmIt was taken straight away for me by card.
The DR.
June 22nd, 2024 - 8:56pmYeah, just nipped to the petrol Station at dinnertime today and when I checked my account, to my surprise they hadn’t taken any money out. I was wondering if they were waiting while the 19th when the Campaign ended. (Then it’s usually around 3 days to disappear from my account).
Snowman
June 20th, 2024 - 12:49pmForgot to mention, yesterday I had an Email from these Guys saying all the Stretch Goals had been reached and thanking everyone for there support. (I should imagine everyone got one)?
The Werewolf
June 20th, 2024 - 1:41amCan you still back this now the campaign has ended, or is it too late?
Rory
June 20th, 2024 - 9:50amYes you can. They have met their stretch goals, not ended the campaign.
mb
June 18th, 2024 - 9:54pmAll stretch goals met! Great news 🙂
anon
June 24th, 2024 - 3:50amYes, it was wanted
Andrew
June 18th, 2024 - 5:03pmI have to admit all these stretch goals being exclusive to the premium level tiers is a little frustrating. I’m hitting limits on my budget, particularly being a Hasbro Star Wars collector and the crowdfunded Mos Eisley Cantina being a big investment for me ATM, so I was already on the fence about this, but the bonuses being unlocked on this home stretch being exclusive to the $250-tier version of the book has turned me off quite significantly.
Maybe I’ll have remorse, I did feel I missed out in retrospect when the Vintage Collection Archive book happened and I had to hop on late for a higher fee (though with how long production took that did offset things). But even if there’s logic to it I’m not as impressed with how some of the supplements are distributed here.
Rex F
June 18th, 2024 - 9:03pmI think you’ll enjoy the Star Wars set more over time. That’s not something you can get an equivalent of for free online, but you can for the add on content of the book.

June 18th, 2024 - 11:38amI am finding all this very confusing, I have bought the handbook version but they are announcing all these extras and I don’t know what they all mean ?
Does the hardback come with any of these new announced extras ?
Rory
June 18th, 2024 - 5:28pm@booboo, I don’t think that’s correct. If he’s bought the hardback, then the extras for 21k, 23k, 25k, 28k, and 30 won’t be included as those are only for Wave One tier and above. It would only be the 26k VAM that gets added for those buying the hardback.
At least that’s how I read it.
booboo
June 18th, 2024 - 5:31pmyes i assumed he had gone for tier one, i was reading another comment at the time.
Snowman
June 17th, 2024 - 1:41pmI bought the 200 pound Tier as it’s looks Great with all the Extras (I would have bought the 300 pound Tier but it sold out before I even saw the Announcement). Anyway I hope it goes to plan and if not, everyone gets a Full refund without any problems. Awhile ago I Lost around 750 Pounds Crowdfunding with Big Chief. They went bust eventually after id waited 3 Years for there products to arrive but nothing ever turned up.
Bicky
June 18th, 2024 - 4:29pmI lost £750 with Big Chief as well.. still sore.
Makes me a bit wary of pre-orders
Snowman
June 20th, 2024 - 12:26pmHello Bicky, Yes I’m sore too and Very Wary of Pre-Orders, Crowd Funding etc. I lost out with Eaglemoss aswell. (Didn’t mention Eaglemoss though as I lost much more money with Big Chief).
Harry with the hair
June 13th, 2024 - 6:14pmPlease make a digital version. As someone who wants everything to be included I can’t justify the 200 £ price.
Snowman
June 20th, 2024 - 12:34pmHello Harry. I’m not up to speed with all this Digital Stuff. If Go Figure made a Digital version of the Book with all the Extras aswell, does that mean it would be Free or would the Digital Subscribers still have to pay something?
The Toymaker
June 12th, 2024 - 11:43pmLudicrously expensive. I’d have considered the standard edition but the best part of it, the pictures of everything in packaging, is in the second hardcover tier and postage takes it $200. I’ve got all the figures already, so I can’t justify even the first tier paperback version, especially when it doesn’t include the full book. Hard pass.
daz
June 13th, 2024 - 11:42amThe packaging pictures are in the hardback edition.
£60 for a one off hardback book (including postage) is good value.
Just ordered mine.
Rory
June 13th, 2024 - 4:37pm@daz, I don’t buy the figures as I don’t have space for that, so this is an easy yes from me to catalogue the range in a single book. I bought Flying Onto Shelves for the same reason.
daz
June 13th, 2024 - 9:33pmI collect both the figures and the figurines although I am more picky these days as space is now limited. I only have the Daleks and consoles on display from the figurine collection though.
I got Flying onto Shelves so had to have GoFigure too as they are great reference books.
Mrs Croot
June 12th, 2024 - 9:30pmAs nice as the book is, I’ll only be pledging if the 30k is met in order to guarantee the time squad supplemental (or if it’s 29.8k because my £200 would tip it over). The actual book of character options figures would be the bonus to me 🙂
pupbenny
June 12th, 2024 - 8:55pmWhoa, how did they get that 14th Doctor prototype.
The Unlicensed Physician
June 12th, 2024 - 10:24pmHave they got Torchwood prototypes too? I want to see the rejected “Captain Jack with removable trousers”.
Peter C
May 31st, 2024 - 10:13amOrdered this this morning. It looks great!
Erato
May 30th, 2024 - 7:42amSo if I bought this now as a birthday gift for someone in November, there’s no guarantees it’ll be ready by then?
booboo
May 30th, 2024 - 7:56amAt this stage November is as estimate, they will reach the target and beyond so hopefully but all sorts can delay things many outside of the publishers control
Peter C
May 29th, 2024 - 11:33pmDoes anyone know, where it says the amount claimed, how many of each variant there are? Was wanting the hardback, but unable to order until the weekend at earliest. It says 65 claimed against the hardback currently.
booboo
May 30th, 2024 - 9:36amNot familiar with is this platform, There is no fixed amount on the hardback so assuming you should be OK until the end of the campaign.
Jamie
May 29th, 2024 - 11:07pmI backed this earlier. It looks great. Have been wanting something like this for some time.
Snowman
May 29th, 2024 - 5:46pmOh man, I want this ASAP. Loved the Eaglemoss Book and I’m sure this will be just as good.
Snowman
May 29th, 2024 - 8:28pmHas anyone heard anything about the 40 pound tip that gets added on to your payment when you try to check out? Just noticed some people have mentioned it on Facebook.
booboo
May 29th, 2024 - 9:04pmdrop down tip price suggestion which looks like you can set at 0
Snowman
May 29th, 2024 - 9:10pmYeah, I was on the NDW CO, Customs site awhile back and they said it was a bit Cheeky, luckily they noticed beforehand and set it to 0 before checking out. Another Guy commented that he hadn’t noticed and when he checked his receipt it had charged him 40 Pounds more than he expected?
booboo
May 29th, 2024 - 9:14pmTotal is clearly shown on the page i’m looking at.
however at thsi stage they might be able to ask for a refund
The Zoo Boy
May 29th, 2024 - 10:42amThis looks fantastic! Definitely will back this. I wonder if this will include the upcoming Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday figures, has anyone asked?
The Outcast
May 29th, 2024 - 11:38amIt won’t – it’s only including figures up till now, and the publishers don’t seem to have any insider info from character options.
Andrew
May 29th, 2024 - 10:27amLooks amazing! But that pricing is next level. AU$505 inc. shipping for the hardcover option with a few supplements. Would like an option to get just the book and supplements without all the art cards, postcards and posters.
Hewy
May 29th, 2024 - 8:44amLove the concept, unfortunately, it’s $200AU including P&P to get it to Australia – that’s into Folio Society pricing.
anon
May 29th, 2024 - 9:50amYeah & you will wait 3 years before getting it…
Judooning
May 29th, 2024 - 6:55amIncredible work really. It must have been such a joy to make but pretty time consuming I’d imagine. Well worth a purchase. I’d love the checklist but I don’t think I can stretch that far price wise unfortunately so I’ll settle for the hardback
The Unlicensed Physician
May 28th, 2024 - 11:38pmThis isn’t just aimed at Cutaway Comics, but so many websites are no longer updated (including blogs) and all the news is on social media instead. As such, several Cutaway projects have completely passed me by.
toby
May 28th, 2024 - 8:51pmif they make the book will be buying one
Jason Z
May 28th, 2024 - 8:49pmDo we know what the ten prototypes are? Presumably they include Son of Mine and Cybershade, to judge from the photos. And wasn’t there work on Haemovores at one point?
The Monk, Meddling
May 28th, 2024 - 6:08pmi like the look of this! Love that there’s a supplemental book on the Sonic toys, too!!!
mb
May 28th, 2024 - 6:00pmCount me in, this looks great! 🙂
I used to float now I just fall down
May 28th, 2024 - 5:18pmI would love something like this. Would you consider making a digital version? It could be cheaper and more people would get a chance to get one
Radioguy
May 28th, 2024 - 5:02pmI laud the effort. I know it has crossed the mind of more than one person to compile such a physical compendium, but to see it come to fruition is great. I know I’d love to own a copy.
Having said that, I’m a little surprised the RC Daleks (at least the 12″/18″ ones) are being held back from the book, and only made available via a separate supplement at a higher pledge tier. I suppose the same can be said of the screwdrivers too.
I mean, the figure range comprises more than 80% of CO’s license, so holding back on the remainder seems odd. To me, it makes the book seem incomplete. I really wish it were compiled together as one book covering the entirety of CO’s output to date.
Martino
May 28th, 2024 - 4:03pmI would only hesitate to buy the hardback edition because the range isn’t yet complete & cannot be encapsulated yet. Looks gorgeous though (there was an unreleased Cybershade! I didn’t know that!)
Peter C
June 13th, 2024 - 6:36pmHow do you get the stretch goal additions? I assume it depends on which book you order. I ordered the hardcover with figures in packaging extra pages. But not sure how to go about getting the poster etc. Are they added depending upon which pledge you support?
Peter C
June 13th, 2024 - 6:44pmSorry Martino, accidentally replied to your post. I meant to scroll down to create a new one. Thought I had.
daz
June 13th, 2024 - 9:37pmPeter C, you can amend your tier upto the end of the funding period. So if you want the poster you could upgrade by logging into the website if you created an account.
Rob
May 28th, 2024 - 3:39pmA great idea and much better than the DWM version. I started on a project last year to do the classic version, but didnt get far. Good luck to them.
DDD
May 28th, 2024 - 2:52pmAmazing. Hopefully they will include TARDIS’s as well.
“The TARDIS is under attack by the Doctors’ enemies! Slitheen, Cassandra and Sycorax! But don’t worry, the Doctor can fight them off with his Sonic Screwdriver! Oh no! The Daleks have joined the battle! Time to get out of here…”
Could also be the latest Big Finish release syopsis..
The Anon
May 28th, 2024 - 4:19pmThey are included!
Will Brooks
May 28th, 2024 - 4:20pmYep, all the TARDISes are in there – there’s even a prototype for one of the classic models – plus playsets, and bulkier things like the Genesis Ark and Cyber Throne (There’s prototype images of those two, too!), the Satan Pit lift etc.
All the accessories are pictured next to their figures, too, so it’s about as comprehensive as it can get!
