Figurine Collection Magazine The Master Box Set 1: Classic Masters

Just like the Doctor, the Master has had many faces throughout the years. This box set collects the Master’s most infamous incarnations from the classic Doctor Who series!

This suave and sinister “Master”-mind was first portrayed by Roger Delgado from 1971-1973, only to return as an emaciated wraith played by Peter Pratt in “The Deadly Assassin”, his regenerations all burned away.

The Master later revitalized himself by stealing a new body. This new incarnation was a bombastic master of disguise, portrayed by Anthony Ainley until the final episode of the classic TV series.

It wasn’t the last time the Master would engage in bodysnatching – Eric Roberts played a new Master in the Doctor Who movie, one who’d stolen the body of an American paramedic. Clad in Gallifreyan robes, he sought to claim the Doctor’s life – and its remaining regenerations – as his own!

What about a Anthony ainley master’s disguises set? Castrovalva, time flight and king’s demons.

It would make a nice four pack if we had seen him disguised as a scarecrow but we only hear the ainley master laugh and see him pulling the straw out of his suit so i guess that doesn,t count.

That’s what I thought when I came up with this. You might get away with a kamelion suited master though

Though not a disguise, a planet infected Master from Survival would fit in with the Ainley theme.

      We could end up with;

Set 1: Delgado, Pratt/Beevers, Ainley, Roberts
Set 2: Tipple, Jacobi, Gomez, Dhawan
Set 3: Saxon, End of Time Master, Razor, The Doctor Falls Master (Simm set)
Set 4: Portreve, Khalid, Sir Giles Estram, Survival Master (Ainley disguises)
Set 5: Telephone Engineer, Rev. Magister (Azal worship costume), Professor Thascalos, Commissioner for Sirius (Delgado disguises)

They sound good Pete. Here’s hoping

Sir Gilles Estram wasn,t really much of a disguise. Makes you wonder why the master even bothered.

Especially when you consider the fact he would have been completely unknown to those around him. I often wondered if he only disguised himself on the off chance the doctor would turn up!

The Khalid disguise is the most pointless. In the middle of nowhere and sometime in the Jurassic; who is he fooling, who is he hiding from before the Doctor turns up?

At least as Estram it looks like he’s trying to fit in, obscuring his influence on the “King”. Undisguised, his look and dress codes as evil in the Doctor Who universe, at least it does without having a scapegoat in place before revealing himself.

Given Roberts’ Master says that he likes to “dress to impress”, maybe the Master just loves cosplay.

I can,t believe how oblivious The Doctor and Tegan are to his ‘disguise’ in The Kings Demons. Even after he removes his helmet after the jousting duel, you,d at least expected Tegan to say ‘Doctor, don,t you think that knight looks a bit like….’ ‘Mm, I did wonder when you,d notice’, The TARDIS takes the Doctor where he Needs to go, the master causing mayhem in medieval England must have seemed an urgent priority. I mean how many instances has he hung around and the Doctor just not bothered to show up. Camp and utterly mad. Thats what becomes of some who stare too long into the untempered schism.

Maybe Tegan and the Doctor were distracted by the “french” accent the Master was using; “This disguise won’t fool anyone, I look too much like myself…. I know! I’ll talk like ‘zis. It iz ze perrfect solushawn. Naw warne will realize it iz me.'”

You can just imagine the master stood in front of a large mirror practicising his best Maurice Chevalier meets Inspector Clouseau. No need for the TARDIS translator system to bother with a comedic broken french accent.

Even the scarecrow disguise in mark of the rani is fairly pointless. Did he really need to stand in the middle of a field to watch the doctor’s arrival? Stand behind a tree and save the effort laddie!

    Nice!
I hope that this is foreshadowing a future new series Masters set!

Yeah, i’m pretty sure there will be one with Yana/Jacobi, Simm, Gomez and Dhawan, though not for a while as both Missy and the recent Master are yet to be released for the first time

I think I’d be more surprised now if they didn’t do one. Here’s hoping!

Well with 8 on screen Masters, set 2 will be the four modern Who Masters.

Set is now open for pre-orders.

Calling it set one is a big hint that set two will be coming along shortly.

There could even be two sets. You could probably get a set just for simm alternatives.

A set of Simm alternatives gives room for a Gordon Tipple figure.

Don’t know if it’s just me or any of you guys agree.
But since Eaglemoss stared doing the 2, 3 and 4 packs it makes the sets look so much better, especially with the colourful packaging and smaller mags that aren’t received constantly bent. They look more professional.
Don’t think I’ll be totally heartbroken when the main collection ends as long as they continue with these beauties.

I have to agree with that. I prefer the smaller magazines with them being more compact.

    Very nice collection!

On a related note, although there doesn’t seem to have been an official announcement as such did anyone else see that Neil said on Twitter that the collection has been extended to at least 220 issues? Fantastic news I think!

Keep saying it but congratulations to all for such a wonderful collection.

yes, Ben Morris actually said about it in a NYCC video although they never tend to “officially” announce these things

It’s great news anyway. I do usually get an email from Eaglemoss saying it’s been extended although that can be some time after any news from Ben or Neil.
