Update: 5 Un-released Eaglemoss Figurines inc Sontaran on Horseback Special

From www.scificollector.co.uk

Update:

The next batch of figures to be released are The Black Guardian #220, Vinder #221, Ood Elder #222 and Azure #223 along with the above already announced Special Sontaran on Horseback. These will be available to order in the coming weeks.

St Alban’s store on March 18th

Whilst sadly Nicola Bryant has had to pull out of our event on Saturday and postpone her visit to a later day, Neil will still be in attendance, as we unveil a further 5 un-released Eaglemoss figures including the Sontaran on Horseback Special, and for the first time reveal the extraordinary story behind them.

We have also massively bolstered our back-stock of figures. Those of you who visited us for our opening saw one bay of figures. We have now filled two bays as you can see below with approximately 200 existing figurines, plus a further stand dedicated to Daleks, Console, Megas and Specials, offering what we believe to be, by far the largest range of figures in the world. This is an unprecedented opportunity to fill gaps.

We will also shortly be starting to offer our BUYING prices for figures we are missing so that those of you on the hunt for elusive numbers have a further port of call for them, so keep an eye on the website from next week as the first of these start to appear.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday.

A list of others up to 250 including Roboman are to be revealed shortly which didnt quite make it into production. Such a shame.

I just saw the list and some really great figurines we will never see! I’m especially disspointed that we won’t now see the Nucleus of the Swarm, Vega Nexos, Tharil and Foamasi. A Kronos special would have been fantastic too!

Especially sad as it was quite close to the end as 250 was planned to be the last regular issue. Still we got to 220 and a wee bit beyond which is quite remarkable in itself plus all the extras.

Getting these last few reminds me how much I looked forward to getting my regular delivery. As I’ve said before it was by far my favourite range of merchandise.

Some surprising omissions as well but there are so many. I believe if the regular issues had ended we would have had no end of wonderful storysets to follow as a continuation.

      March 18th, 2023 - 11:10pm

So here’s the list…quite a long post so hope it’s ok!

This information comes from John Ainsworth who was Development Manager at Eaglemoss from February 2019 to April 2022, and left just before it folded. I hope he doesn’t mind me posting this here.

“I worked with Neil Corry on the development of the figurines. Neil stepped down in December 2021 and I put in place the final selections for the remainder of the collection before I left. Below is a list of what was planned at the point I left. It’s unlikely any of this changed as the company was already slowing down by the time I departed.

      MAIN RANGE
      220 – Black Guardian
      221 – Vinder
      222 – Elder Ood
      223 – Azure
      224 – Stike
225 – Execution Squad Dalek (from ‘Eve of the Daleks’)
226 – Thal (from the first Dalek story)
227 – Thirteenth Doctor as Weeping Angel
      228 – Haemovore
      229 – Passenger
      230 – Axon Monster
231 – Chief Sea Devil (from Legend of the Sea Devils)
      232 – Auton Bride
      233 – The Portreeve
      234 – Headless Monk
      235 – Monarch
      236 – Yvonne Hartman
237 – Time Lord General (female)
      238 – The Flood
      239 – Vorus
      240 – Leandro
      241 – Jacondan
The rights for all of the above had been cleared and approved, so would have gone ahead. The remainder below were awaiting confirmation of rights approval, so some of them might not have made it.
242 – Virus (from ‘The Invisible Enemy’)
      243 – Foamasi
      244 – The Shadow
      245 – Cryon
      246 – Vega Nexos
      247 – Tharil
248 – Time Lord (from ‘The War Games’ – this was approved)
249 – Roboman (approved – see other post)
      250 – The Watcher

      SPECIALS
      30 – Cleaner Robot
      31 – Skaak on Horseback
      32 – Skovox Blitzer
      33 – Kronos
      34 – The Garm
      35 – The Cailleach

      RARE DALEKS
      21 – Tea Serving Dalek
22 – First Doctor in Dalek Exhibit (from ‘The Space Museum’)
23 – Dalek Drone (red Dalek from ‘Victory of the Daleks’)
24 – Davros with Data Globe (from ‘Destiny of the Daleks’)
25 – Dalek Strategist (blue Dalek from ‘Victory of the Daleks’, completing the New Dalek Paradigm)

      STORY SETS
The ‘Revolution of the Daleks’ box set was produced as a one-off, but it was to become the template for a series of ‘Story Sets’, with the intention of including companions that hadn’t featured in the Companion Sets.
1 – Image of the Fendahl (Leela, Fendahl Core, Fendahleen)
2 – Flux (Thirteenth Doctor in dark blue coat, Yaz as a Mouri, Dan with frying pan)
3 – A Christmas Carol (Eleventh Doctor in white tuxedo, Old Kazran, Abigail)
4 – The End of the World (Moxx, Rose, Steward)
Other Story Sets were being considered, including ‘The Web of Fear’, ‘School Reunion’, ‘The Leisure Hive’, ‘Planet of the Spiders’, and ‘The Sontaran Experiment’, but only the above were in active production”.

I’m particularly gutted we won’t get the Nucleus, Shadow and Foamasi and those final run of classic figurines would have been amazing – if they got the rights of course.

      What might have been!

All those wonderful “what could have beens’ and still a fair few omissions at that.

      March 19th, 2023 - 10:14am

Not sure about Kronos, Garm and Cailleach as specials. As regular size yes. I,m sure Harrops could get around to the larger size of these.

    • Doug Who

      March 19th, 2023 - 12:01pm

I think Kronos and the Garm would have made great specials. I suppose the Cailleach may have been tricky to do at the regular size with all the detail on the feathers. Still all just speculation now.

For me that unbroken run of classic figurines would have been the perfect end to the collection. I’d love to have seen what they would have done with the Nucleus with all those delicate antennae! The Flood was the one I most wanted from the newer series and Vorus would have been amazing too…what might have been indeed!

I was more a new series fan for these figurines…but Yvonne bloomin Hartman?! Haha, really didn’t see that one coming.

    • The Quark

      March 19th, 2023 - 3:13pm

Some major omissions in my book and some superb serials unrepresented. Too many minor figures from the reboot. Yvonne Hartman ? Female Time Lord General ? And yet no Dominator, Morok, Drahvin, Macra, Chumbley, Menoptra, none of the Masterplan Delegates, Arcturus missing, nothing at all from ‘Carnival of Monsters’ least of all a Drashig. Not forgetting the Kandyman or anything to commemorate the Cushing movies. Half the Key to Time stories not included either. Too late now.

    • Doug Who

      March 19th, 2023 - 4:58pm

      Quark,

I think all those you mention would have been thought about. John said Ben encouraged them to look at more obscure characters (hence Koquillion, Navarino, Primord etc). Neil said he had made some progress with sourcing the William Emms estate for ‘Galaxy 4’ characters but others proved tricky.

Neil and co were dealing with writers who may have died decades ago so finding and securing the rights may have been nigh impossible. Then the practicalities of making the things on such a small scale for mass production may have scuppered others. I can’t imagine how Arcturus could have been done with the clear dome and ‘lava lamp’ elements.

With my own customs I tried to do characters I didn’t think would or could ever be done and I seem to have been right. Only the Shadow is on my list!

      March 19th, 2023 - 7:22pm

Some of those missing characters might well have been part of a potential storyset
So much was thought through but ideas on quite a few had to be abandoned due to estate or copyright issues.

Have the actual ones that are going to be on sale been listed anywhere onlin yet ? I keep looking in on sci fi collectors website and cant find anything. Nothing on their facebook page either.

    • Doug Who

      March 19th, 2023 - 8:12pm

No Quark, they are being shipped from China and are expected to be on sale from around mid-April. Apparently, from what I read, there may likely be import charges so these next ones could be more expensive. The previous unreleased figurines were already in the UK.

If you sign up on their website, they have been really good at sending updates as and when they have news.

The Quark – I’m not sure if by ‘listed online’ you are meaning ‘available to order’ yer – in which case, no. Stocks are making their way to the UK now – SFC anticipate mid-April arrival. If you mean ‘where can I see what they are’ it’s 220-223 – Blsck Guardian, Vinder, Elder Ood and Azure (plus Skaak on horseback Special). SFC’s e-mail newsletter of last night had a photo of 220-223 in their packaging. They are being tight-lipped (or saying they are not sure yet) about whether there are any more to come after that…

Shame that as the creators of some of the series best characters Philip Madoc and Kevin Stoney never made it into figure form – both could have easily been recreated as at least two of their characters. Also nothing from any of the historicals – a Tlotoxl figure would have been superb and there’s even the colour reference material there.

    • Doug Who

      March 20th, 2023 - 1:33pm

If the collection had gone to 500, I think there would always have been something that would not have got done. We just don’t know what wrangles went on trying to find the estates, such as that of Edward Brayshaw who played the War Chief, which simply could not be traced and so they couldn’t make the figurine even though they wanted to.

I agree it would have been great to have some figurines from the historicals, Tlotoxl, Marco Polo, King Richard etc and maybe we would have had story sets had it gone on, but again who knows what difficulties there were getting the rights.

I’m trying to be positive and enjoy the tons of great characters Neil, John and company got to our shelves (and the few more to come) rather than focus on what we will never get now…although it can be difficult not to dwell.

Yes I got the email from Sci Fi. That’s quite a hike but the reasons seem sound. The factory clearly offered them a take it or leave it deal. It will be interesting to hear what else they had to buy to secure the unreleased ones.

For one last lot of figurines I’ll splash out. Hope the Skaak on horseback special price isn’t too crazy!

I wonder if there are any moulds or STL (or similar) files for planned figurines still with the factory? The sample figurines Ben showed must have had moulds made. Hopefully they’ll be kept just in case.

Interesting reading what was going to be included in those story based sets and even The malus was considered as a special. Which would have been great.

This came as a surprise and is really exciting! Wasn’t desperate for the Skaak horseback figurine but actually will be really nice to have.

I’m filled with anticipation about what the others might be now. It was said the Sontaran special hadn’t gone into production so can we hope the ‘Fendahl’ set made it too? Maybe a wish too far but would be so fantastic if it had.

Be nice if the Black Guardian is among the upcoming ones too. Roll on Saturday! Wish I could get to St. Albans now!

Doug, I should imagine 220 Black Guardian, 221 Vinder, 222 Ood Elder and 223 Azure all made production.
Not sure what happened with Passenger, Weeping Doctor, Sontaran or the Axon Monster though.

    • Doug Who

      March 15th, 2023 - 4:39pm

I wonder. Ben said the Azure, Angel Doctor, Stike, Passenger and Axon were all just prototypes. I also recall he said if promo photos had been released (there weren’t for any of the above) it was possible it had gone into production.

I’m assuming the five are Guardian, Vinder, Ood, Skaak special and one other, as the notice said including Skaak, which leaves one mystery figurine! My hope would be the Axon Monster to go with the Axon Man but I think that’s highly unlikely!

I Should imagine there just showing the figures off.
They did the same thing weeks ago when they were selling the Karvanista figurine, they let us have a sneak peak of the Movellan and Bellal Figurines in there shop.
This will make alot of people happy though that there’s at least another Five figurines that went into production, aswell as Skaak on Horseback.
I wonder if Trek Trading will eventually reveal more Magazines aswell?

There are no more magazines after 219 as no others were printed. 220 only exists as the editors online copy.

As for 5 figurines, Sontaran on horseback is included in the 5.

We already know that 220 and 222 went into production so just 2 more to confirm.
