Doctor Who The Romans 1st Doctor Audio CD

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

A multi-voice retelling of historical events featuring the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki.

The TARDIS crewmembers have taken a break from their adventures and are enjoying a well-deserved rest in a luxury villa.

But, in the gory grandeur that is Imperial Rome, things don’t stay quiet for long. If the time travellers can save themselves from being sold as slaves, assassinated by classical hit-men, poisoned by the evil Locusta, thrown to the lions, maimed in the arena and drowned in a shipwreck, they still have to face the diabolical might of the mad Emperor Nero.

As if that wasn’t enough, they also discover that, although Rome wasn’t built in a day, it burnt down in considerably less time…

Tim Treloar, Jamie Glover, Dan Starkey, Clare Corbett, Jon Culshaw, Maureen O’Brien and Louise Jameson are the readers of Donald Cotton’s epistolary novelisation, a shining example of the wit and drama of Doctor Who.

Loving the new / old logo! Totally agree that this suits the audio range so well! Wonder if Big Finish will change to the new logo too! And the Dr Who mag too!

The new logo looks good. I’ve never been bothered by changing logos as I’m from the target books generation where the logo changed with each new doctor.

The new logo really suits the target audio range, shame its nearly at its end with only a few more to go.

I anticipate the last one will be Loch Ness Monster.

I remember reading The Romans a while back: I read it in one go due to its ‘diary’ like format.

I may be wrong but I think this is the first thing to have the new logo on it!

The Front facing image of Kaidescope audio from BF came with the Whitaker Logo on reverse. They used to use the orange version of the curved logo on Tom baker releases, as this is series 11 story, they may have decided to use it anyway, but its certainly the new version, in blue, with the Doctor part in shade/muted and the pipping around the who in bright yellow.

As this is the “current” anniversary logo. Its now front facing on the bf release.

As someone who was part of ever changing logos on Targets, it no biggie, except the whitaker logo was perfect for the ling header on these audios ,allowing the images to breathe in the space allowed, now we lose another % of the lover part of the image,to fit A) Double height logo, and B) add to this, the extra big who takes more room.

Still hopefully its the whitaker logo on the flip side of the cover and not the Pertwee/McGann logo, but i fear that wont be so. Warriors of the deep, needed the extra room in height, being a single figure image.

Read this again yesterday. It’s funny and works to a degree. The characterisation is okay but vicki is very badly portrayed. There are big differences in the story and I’d recommend the original TV story over the book. Buy the book is a laugh.

I wondered how they would present “The Romans” as an audio book – what a great way to do it! This should be a lot of fun!

I know this book has a lot of negativity around it but I always enjoy reading it. In fact I might read again this weekend. It’s a fun book.
