Anyone else kinda hoping that when they get round to Series 8 the get Alice X Zhang to do it in the style she did 9&10? Just thought it’d be pretty cool to have like ‘themes’ for each Drs steelbooks

Strangely enough yes, I really do perhaps with capaldi looking like he did when he looked at the camera in deep breath after pushing the half face man on to big Ben

Like the newer style of having the Doctor and companion on the front with series baddies on the back myself. Plus series 9 is soooo expensive now, I would want another chance to get a series 9 steelbook.

Is it possible to email the BBC if I only want to ask if day of the doctor, time of the doctor and twice upon a time are possible steelbook releases?

They will no doubt say there is no information at this time….

Although I have Specials to Series 10 on Bluray already and the Season 5 (crack) steelbook, I will happily buy them again on Steelbook if done. They just look so much better on the shelf.

Just wish they would speed up the releases so we get them faster. Even if 2 series a year.

      April 23rd, 2019 - 11:27am

In 2017 we got series 1, 2 and 10 but last year all we got was series 3… I emailed them last year about series 4 and they said that it wasn’t on their release schedule for 2018/2019 but obviously they changed their minds. If we emailed about TDOTD, TTOTD and TUAT, do you think they would subconsciously consider it?

    • J45ON96

      April 23rd, 2019 - 12:46pm

It was probably not on the release schedule for that financial year (April 2018-April 2019) so that’s why they didn’t mention it at the time, that’s normally how they plan these sorts of things.

Would have been really cool if they’d included the specials in this, as usually they are counted as part of series 4

      April 19th, 2019 - 4:56pm

Specials are not part of Series 4. They were shown the follwing year in 2009. They have always been seperate releases. On past DVD’s and Blurays.

They were however numbered as part of series 4 in production.

    • Anonymous

      April 20th, 2019 - 5:08pm

Release position really doesn’t count for much. Episodes are included for convenience (see The Next Doctor which was produced alongside Series 4 and not the Specials) or because of fan demand (see The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe which was not considered part of any series and was not intended to be included in any box sets until there was a fan outcry).

    • MJS

      April 20th, 2019 - 7:13pm

Agreed. It seems pointless to have 5 episodes for £3X when you can have 14 for the same. I wish they’d included them in this too.

    • Prowl

      April 21st, 2019 - 7:10am

I wanted the specials to be seperate. I’m getting this line for the awesome Steelbook art and want one more Tennant steelbook. Wonder if the specials steelbook would be just him on the front.

    • JK

      April 22nd, 2019 - 3:58pm

Agreed. Technically the Christmas specials aren’t part of a series, yet most are included on boxsets as a way to round up a whole series without leaving any extras floating around. The same can be said with “The Day/Time of the Doctor” being apart of Series 7.

Also, they stretched out the 2009 Specials boxset across 5 discs when there’s really only 3 discs worth of content, they could have easily reduced it and bookended it onto S4, but the BBC aren’t in the market of redoing disc content (e.g. that rough copy of Born Again on Series 2 boxset really needs to be replaced), only the packaging now.

    • Anonymous

      April 23rd, 2019 - 2:38am

They are produced and classified with various series, but that’s not always a guarantee of how they’ll be released or marketed.

It’s also possible somebody will come along five years later and completely reclassify everything (The Face of Evil was marketed at the time as the start of a brand new series, yet now we lump it in to “Season 14” because of JNT’s marketing to the Americans in the 80s).

  • The Flying Shark

If only people would stop complaining about the logo! I get the collection will look slightly different, but it’s no surprise considering literally everything else has the 2018 logo on now. Doctor Who has never been consistent, but at least you’ll finally have the (almost) complete Tennant era as a steelbook, rather than the different sized cases that plagued the DVD/Blu-Ray range.

Do you think they’ll do steelbooks for standalone releases, such as day of the doctor, time of the doctor and twice upon a time? As these 3 stories were never included on a complete series boxset

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2019 - 11:20am

Hope so as it would seem like a waste of resources to do three seperate releases when they could incorporate the stories into the related series cover art

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2019 - 12:27pm

The only problem for twice upon a time is there has already been a steelbook for series 10. Would they do a separate one for it? Day of the doctor, time of the doctor and twice upon a time are all significant enough to warrant a steelbook (imo)

    • Star Lord

      April 19th, 2019 - 4:28pm

Day/Time were released in the 4 disc 50th Collector’s Edition set, not sure they’d rerelease those discs in a steel book though as it would greatly diminish the value of the original.

I would love to see TwiceUponATime get the steelbook treatment however, as I don’t intend to buy it unless it fits in with the rest of my collection

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2019 - 5:01pm

Hoenslty if they re-released the 50th specials in the form of a steel book, then I would buy

Or perhaps a 4K steelbook. C’mon, Name / Day / Time of the Doctor are some of the best looking doctor who stories and need a 4K treatment, and also include the rest of the 50th stuff as extras. I would pay whatever price they wanted to get an adventure in space and time on blu Ray aswell as the five ish doctors reboot

    • Star Lord

      April 19th, 2019 - 5:38pm

I’d actually forgotten Adventure only ever got a blu-ray release as part of the 50th set, pity that.

Anyone know if the 4K version of TUAT is actually all that amazing?

    • Prowl

      April 19th, 2019 - 10:26pm

I’d love to see Day/Time get a steelbook together with Day of the Doctor art on it, and I would love a TUAT steelbook as well since it is a regeneration story and a multi doctor story, would buy both in a heartbeat.

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2019 - 10:29pm

      Ummm…TUAT’s 4K isn’t exaclty amazing

Filled with tons of ups along issues. Some parts are really blurry and other very detailed. You can make out the glue on David Bradley’s Wig (deliberate or not). Also it doesn’t help that the episode looks a bit cheap so it doesn’t look all that good. A better use of the 4K treatment is day and time of the Doctor

    • Anonymous

      April 20th, 2019 - 12:57pm

Right I am probably the only one one who thinks this. But I honestly love the new logo on the side of the dvd’s And stuff. I love the slipcover for the Macra Terror I didn’t want to take it off. But I do like the old logo on the front, it’s just the new logo is better suited for the side. But that’s very unpopular

    • Omega63

      April 20th, 2019 - 4:15pm

I don’t think people have an issue with the new logo itself, just the lack of consistency that it’ll cause here.

    • J45ON96

      April 22nd, 2019 - 11:01am

Unfortunately everything is still recorded in plain 1080p up until the start of Series 11, as far as I’m aware.

4K will therefore be an upscale, and while this will allow HDR functionality, and therefore richer colours on screen, you’ll see diminishing returns with regards to the quality of the image comparing it between 4K and standard Blu-ray.

Series 11 was still shot and edited in HD

  • René

    April 18th, 2019 - 8:52pm

I also think that this set should have included the specials but hey ho. I understand that season 5 has already had a steel book but it was completely stand alone. Please don’t exclude it. Don’t stop at series 4. Please take greater care with design and continuity in future Amazon

These steelbooks aren’t Amazon exclusive, the artist also said that it was the BBC who put the logo on the spine, she only did the artwork, but she also said that she would pass on feedback, maybe if enough people have her similar feedback, it would encourage the BBC to keep the 2018 logo to the front of the j card but have the 3rd doctor logo printed on the spine

      THE SPECIALS / 2008-10 SPECIALS?

And how about the 50th with Time of the Doctor – 50th ANNIVERSARY SET?

I’ve come to accept that Doctor Who isn’t consistent with branding however as the Logo on the Steelbook isn’t that dominant I think the cardboard slipcase should have the new logo on for the sake of wanting the brand to be 100% consistent but then on the spine for continuity purposes have the old logo on.

Well thats good for the environment. I know people want everything to be uniform, i did when i used to collect the dvds. But its the content, not the packaging that should be the focus. At least they are finally releasing it.

    • Omega63

      April 18th, 2019 - 4:15pm

How can you argue the content should be the focus when the content has been released many years prior. Literally the main selling point of this product is the packaging.

    • JK

      April 18th, 2019 - 4:42pm

They could at least try to get one set of DVD/blu-ray boxsets looking consistent, these steelbooks were the closest thing until the logo / artist change 🙁

    • Anonymous

      April 18th, 2019 - 5:26pm

Well you will still buy it anyway so what does it matter if the artist is different and the logos not the same? It is one tiny issue that doesn’t detract from the beautiful artwork or the fact that there is still some interest in rereleasing these series in a better standard for the fans. I love the target books, none of the spines look the same throughout the entire range but it doesn’t stop me from appreciating that it is the content and cover art that entice me. You wont spend hours pouring over the logo, you will spend hours enjoying the artwork and the content which are the most important things.

      April 18th, 2019 - 4:44pm

The new logo thing is a bad idea..I know they want EVERYTHING Doctor Who-related to have one logo but there’s probably gonna be a new one in a few years time, so that kinda defeats the purpose.

    • Bushboy

      April 18th, 2019 - 9:33pm

I just wish that for all merchandise they would use the logo appropriate to the era of the show it represents.
That would at least create a sort of constant diversity, with every period of the shows history made recognisable in its own right.

Doesn’t look like Lee did this one to me, would have prefered him. Still looks nice, already pre-ordered it. I wish Donna wsn’t takng up more room on the front than David is, I prefer a 50/50 split of room used by the doctor and compaion more like the first two had. I’m spoiled by the style used for them, still looking forward to owning this one, just as I love my season 3 one. The purple background looks awesome.

I’m hoping we get the Specials next. even though it’s just 5 episodes, I’d still fork over the money for it.

No, as I ordered the season 19 blu ray but my card changed between reordering it and dispatch date and my order got cancelled so I had to reorder, so the answer to your question is they charge you ON DISPATCH.
