January 15th, 2019 - 10:48pmHi, hope someone here can help me! My husband is a huge fan and has lots of the recent series in blu ray steel books. Am I right that the series 11 blu ray steel book is only available from Amazon? I saw a post that it doesn’t include the previous one off special so what’s blu ray would that be on? Sorry I’m a bit clueless but hoping to get him a good present!

January 16th, 2019 - 7:17amyes the steelbook is an Amazon exclusive
Resolution is only available on its own at present and isn’t part of any set http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/doctor-who-new-years-day-special-resolution-blu-ray/

January 12th, 2019 - 3:13pmMines arrived today, looks good.

January 14th, 2019 - 7:13pmI’m hand this looks amazing so happy I stuck with it 😀

January 11th, 2019 - 5:20pmdo we think this might pop up reduced on Prime Day or Black Friday or any other day things Amazon do given that it will probably still be available given the amount of cancellations?
Rob W
January 13th, 2019 - 4:08pmI certainly think it ought to be around £40 which the last 2 Capakdi Steelbooks were, although I think I paid £36 for Series 10…
Star Lord
January 4th, 2019 - 2:45pmAfter much deliberation I’ve decided to cancel my pre-order of this. I enjoyed the series but the price and lackluster artwork on this just isn’t doing it for me. I know it may become rare in the future but I’m just not liking it enough.

January 4th, 2019 - 5:28pmSame, though I would get it at a cheaper price
Andrew
January 2nd, 2019 - 9:38pmDoes anyone know if the series not yet released in steelbooks of new Who will still happen or has the release of the Doctor Who collection put that on pause.
Thanks
booboo
January 3rd, 2019 - 8:23amgetting the sense series 3 perhaps did not sell well so may have put pay to series 4 if its happening it will probably juts pop up
The Flying Shark
January 3rd, 2019 - 11:23amI agree, I think Series 3 sold poorly, the artwork wasn’t that great to begin with (and the packaging is the only selling point for the steelbooks really as everybody has the stories already) and HMV, the only store to have them physically and therefore the biggest chance the public has to casually see them, put the price up from £25 to £35 in about a month, so that can’t have helped.
booboo
January 3rd, 2019 - 11:34amAmazon wont have helped either , they kept messing around with the image and even now just have “Doctor Who 3” as the title, easily bypassed by the casual shopper
Whovastron
January 7th, 2019 - 3:56pmAmazon had it for sale on Prime day last year, I didn’t even fully believe it was the series 3 steelbook until it showed up. The title was just ‘Doctor Who 3’ And the Image was The I side of the steelbook. Luckily it was the actual thing, but it was a gamble and I bet many missed out on the deal. It’s a real shame because we won’t complete the collection, they could have put the specials in the series 4 Set, and the 50th in the series 7 Set

December 25th, 2018 - 5:20pmWill this sell out quick or will it stay like the series 10 steelbook has, and will it be more expensive or cheaper
Rob W
December 26th, 2018 - 6:39pmI’ve no idea whether it will sell out. As for the price, the 2 previous Capaldi Steelbooks were £40 on release so this seems somewhat overpriced in my opinion.

December 18th, 2018 - 12:24pmThink we’re confusing disappointment over the lack of original artwork with actual quality.
Most of us were gushing over this image in February and it does look nice here.

December 17th, 2018 - 11:16pmAlso I really hope they have different things on each disk. Amazon!!!! It’s not just the box that makes it limited edition or a collectors item…It’s the detail…which this seasons steel book design clearly lacks
Canan
December 17th, 2018 - 11:11pmNot only is this steel-book unappealing to the eye…it’s also incredibly inconsistent. I have everyone of the steel book releases…even the incredibly rare season 9! And this design is by far the worst…yes, even worse than the season 3 design. All of the other cases have special fan art on the front and back of them…this does not!!! They also contain the words on the side of the case. NOT plastered all over the front cover. I’m so disappointed in this collection. I really thought it would finally look like an actual doctor who collection. I guess I was wrong. It’s starting to look separate. Only a couple of the seasons have the same consistent design. THIS IS NOT A COLLECTION. It’s certainly not a proper one. Why make a limited edition collection when your just going to ruin it with this. It’s lazy, sloppy and unoriginal. I’m furious with this amazon

December 20th, 2018 - 4:24amThe Series 5 steelbook came before any of those. Were you moaning that design wasn’t used for the ones after that?
Canan
December 24th, 2018 - 9:52pmOf course not!!!!!!! That steel book wasn’t part of a collection. That was a stand alone release. This collection is supposed to be 1 big collection of blu ray steel books. Everyone of them so far have just had fan art on the front and back and then the logo on the spine. This one has now ruined the collection.

December 15th, 2018 - 12:11pmI remenber Eccleston and Tennant series box set … full of extras and Audio Commentaries / Christmas specials included/ booklet/ words from RT Davies and Great packaging…
Now we’ve got limited edition without half of the above…
Thanks BBC for not pushing people to buy dvd / BR sets …

December 13th, 2018 - 10:44pmMy gut tells me to get the standard Blu Ray because the design is so much more appealing – but the completist tells me to go for the steelbook so it can sit nicely and ordered along with series 1-3 and 10 (and hopefully future steelbooks of 4-8). With all the other steelbooks having specially commissioned artwork it was a no brainer purchase, but this is the first time I’m not sure. Which one does everyone else think they’re gonna go for?
Colin
December 14th, 2018 - 1:22pmI’m in the same boat ISH…I like the outside of the steel book but love the inside case of the normal box set
But I’ll stick with steel book I am collecting them all too just bring on 4-8 now
DalekAgent
December 14th, 2018 - 6:05pmMe too, i prefer the blu-ray cover and design but i think im still gonna get this steelbook though because theres always a chance this might become really rare like the Series 9 steelbook did
Rob W
December 14th, 2018 - 6:14pmWith the previous steelbooks atound £40 this still seems overpriced…
Andy
December 13th, 2018 - 7:34pmIs it right to say, this won’t have the Twice Upon a Time Christmas Special from Capaldi AND it won’t have the New Years Day Special for Whittaker???
That really makes no sense, especially as it comes out almost a month AFTER they show the New Years Day special. Please someone tell me I’m completely wrong and both episodes will be included.
SJF
December 13th, 2018 - 9:37pmNope, neither
Just the ten episode in Series 11.
Lior Zarzhetsky
December 13th, 2018 - 5:10pmDecided to cancel my pre-order. Given how ugly the artwork looks and how odd it would look next to previous releases much rather get the normal bluray instead.
Rob W
December 13th, 2018 - 6:46pmI think it’s also overpriced as the 2 previous releases were £40 or so.

December 13th, 2018 - 4:42pmwhat poor art work i would expect better for a steelbook

December 13th, 2018 - 5:07pmIt’s by far the best poster for the series, great artwork, I’m so glad they didn’t change it

December 13th, 2018 - 4:12pmDoes it have the New Year’s Day special with it?
Gareth Pugh
December 13th, 2018 - 4:22pmNo. There’s a separate DVD and BluRay release for that, goes on presale in the UK from Friday 14th December, but available to order now from Amazon US. Released mid-Feb.

December 11th, 2018 - 8:36pmHad an email from amazon to say estimated arrival is between 15th Jan – 4th March.
What with the US version coming out in Jan, I’m hoping for a similar date.

October 13th, 2018 - 10:32pmIt would make a lot of sense to include the Christmas special with this as it is broadcast soon AFTER the 10 episodes,i really hope they do that.

June 20th, 2018 - 9:37pmIs it werid
I was hoping for a 4K boxset
I do wish the beeb would shoot doctor who in 4K
J45ON96
June 21st, 2018 - 7:26amUnfortunately the current standard mandate is 1080p shooting. Because of the advent of Planet Earth II in 4K, we’ll see a slow adoption of it, it took three years between Planet Earth (Which, coincidentally, was the first HD program filmed by the BBC) and Planet Of The Dead, the first HD Doctor Who episode. It’ll happen eventually, but they work at their own pace for adopting these things, really!
Doctor Stu
June 21st, 2018 - 12:21pmDoctor Who filmed in 4K lol they don’t even have the budget to edit in the right TARDIS on the Jodie Whittaker announcement they ain’t filming in 4K for a long time (sarcasm)
Anonymous
June 23rd, 2018 - 2:49pmThey should start shooting doctor who in 4K, It would be a waste if they didn’t
It’s the beginning of a new era, time to upgrade
J45ON96
June 25th, 2018 - 7:24amI disagree, especially with a VFX-heavy show like Doctor Who, once you push the filming format up to 4K, you need to upgrade the VFX, or they’ll lack the requisite resolution to gel properly on screen. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves 4K as a format, as well, by the way!
It’s easier recording a practical-effects-based show like Planet Earth II or The Grand Tour in 4K, as you’re al always filming a physical subject, but in Doctor Who’s case, you’d have to chop off a larger amount of the budget than ever for the VFX, at risk of taking the budget away from other things. It’s not something I can see the BBC investing more money in right now, either way. They’ll work on practical based shows in 4K until it’s more cost effective to do it on a wider scale.
Zobles
December 13th, 2018 - 1:51pmMaybe they will release an upscale 4K box set like they did with Twice Upon a Time?
Star Lord
June 20th, 2018 - 4:02pmNot usually one to pre-order something before I’ve seen it, but having collected the Series 1,2,3,9&10 steelbooks I’d hate to miss out on this, great to see they’re continuing with these releases 🙂

August 9th, 2018 - 12:59amAm like you am hoping they will fill the blanks out as well.

June 20th, 2018 - 8:57amThis will be my first steel book
Alex
June 20th, 2018 - 1:22amPre-ordered it, simply because I’ve been getting all the steelbooks so far and it’d be silly to pass this up! Though in saying that, I reeeeally hope they use artwork for the steelbook to keep it somewhat consistent with previous releases. More paranoid that they’re going for a Series 5 steelbook release which…no.
Leon Kerr
June 20th, 2018 - 11:35amThey’ve released loads of steels since that all in “normal” steelbook packaging. Dont see why you’d be thinking they’ll go back to that design 8 years on…
Moodbeam
June 19th, 2018 - 9:15pmJust placed my order. I would imagine that the trailer will be dropping soon in order to help promote this. It’s also noteworthy that the main cast of S11 are attending SDCC soon and I cannot imagine that they’ll hold a panel without any kind of trailer prior.
The Outcast
June 20th, 2018 - 1:43pmDefo going to be a trailer before SDCC. Doubt it’ll come this month, but certainly July will bring us a trailer.
James
June 22nd, 2018 - 2:02pmI do hope we get a trailer what do you think the chances are out of 10 (10 high – 1 low)
