On Saturday 23rd November, the BFI Southbank will be screening Doctor Who: The Curse of Fenric (from the Special Edition Blu-ray) and holding a Q&A with actor Sophie Aldred and script editor Andrew Cartmel. Tickets are available from the BFI on the following dates:

  • Monday 16th September – BFI Patrons and Champions

Season 26 features four epic adventures traversing a future Britain invaded by inter-dimensional knights, a strange Victorian house haunted by ghosts from Ace’s past, an alien world populated by Cheetah People and a 1940s army camp under siege from monstrous vampires.

With guest stars including Nicholas Courtney (Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart), Anthony Ainley (The Master), Jean Marsh, Nicholas Parsons, Anne Reid, Ian Hogg, Sylvia Syms and comedy duo Hale & Pace, this fondly-remembered set of stories saw the end of an era for Doctor Who, and set the stage for its hugely successful revival.

Gordon. Just started looking through the set. Top notch set as the rest are. But can you explain why Battlefield extended literally has copyright and the old bbc logo straight from the vhs. It feels like a rip and an upscale straight from the vhs with no editing. Thanks

It is intended to be for nostalgia for fans who collected these stories on VHS in the 90s.

Preorderd awhile ago on zoom, yet it still hasnt come today. I cant understand why. Never had a problem with zoom or getting the set the day before release date, but it seems not even on the release date. Wondering if it’s worth calling up about so I dont go on a wild chase waiting for it like Gordon did with s23.

Anyone else had there copies today ? From zoom etc.

I’d contact them if it’s not here by Thursday or Friday to make them aware. They won’t do anything till after 10 days of dispatch though. If it still hasn’t arrived after 10 days they will offer a replacement or refund. Season 23 was still readily available after 10 days so I expect 26 will be too

Cheers Gordon, I’ve been emailed on Friday telling me its been despatched so I was quite surprised to see it not turn up on saturday as I’ve ordered within the last few days before release date and its arrived. I just hope that I wont lose out on this set due to something as silly as this. Hopefully it arrives and I can get a copy, it’s the set I’m wanting the most.

What is Janet Fielding’s problem with the titles?

They are an important part of my childhood and no Davison’s were not better!

My copy finally arrived yesterday and it’s been amazing! In regards to The Wilderness Years, in addition to the TV Movie, Scream of the Shalka, Real Time, as well as the various documentaries and TV events, is it possible that it could include Dimensions in Time and Curse of Fatal Death or is that an impossibility? Also, when Season 17 gets the blu-ray treatment, will all the different versions of Shada be included or is that one just confined to its own seperate release?

I think More Than Thirty Years in the TARDIS and Thirty Years in the TARDIS with be on the Wilderness Years set

    • dazzleshell

      January 27th, 2020 - 1:53pm

I hope Dimensions In Time is included just to have it. Even if it was a quid extra so that the money goes to Children In Need.

But if not I already burned a copy to dvd from YouTube along with Behind the Scenes video a few years back so will just slot the disc into the set.

I definitely want The Curse Of Fatal Death and anything else. Even a feature on stuff in 2004 leading to the 2005 series.

    • Anonymous

      January 27th, 2020 - 3:21pm

Dimensions in Time is impossible, Curse of Fatal Death may be difficult but isn’t as bad as the other one was.

    • Gordon

      January 27th, 2020 - 6:11pm

Dimensions has a 60 k clearance fee and tons of legal tape. I’d be suprised if it will ever get released. Curse might as it did get a vhs release.

Regarding shada in s17 I think there is a possibility that both the 1992 and 2017 versions will be included and maybe even a 6 part version of the 2007 shada. As for the mcgann shada it should be on the wilderness years set

    • Anonymous

      January 27th, 2020 - 9:33pm

Here’s a great idea what if we all donate money for the clearance fee. Is it possible

    • Anonymous

      January 28th, 2020 - 7:37am

I think the BBC once said that they would consider releasing TCOFD on DVD towards the end of the range, so I’d imagine it’ll be included.

    • Gordon

      January 28th, 2020 - 11:28am

Even if the money could be raised to pay the clearance fee there is still plenty of legal tape that would need to be crossed off before it would even be considered for release. Due to agreements at the time with equity as people worked on it for free Dimensions in time cannot be commercially released for any profit. Not even for charitable purposes. It would also needed to be agreed by everyone that worked on it and if 1 person can’t be tracked down or does not want it released the whole thing won’t happen. Trying to track down everyone that worked on it would cost a lot of time and money also

      January 28th, 2020 - 11:17pm

Way to be a downer. I wish I could be downer on these sets. I swear there’s some loophole around it. Dimensions in time in HD is all we need. also 3D blu Ray. Could you imagine.

    • Gordon

      January 27th, 2020 - 10:24am

Doubt it’s either March/April. March already has series 12 (the current series) and the faceless ones and April has season 14. They probably won’t want any clashes so I can’t see it happening till may

Nothing official has been confirmed but the likes of who peter part 2 the doctor forever series destiny of the have to go somewhere and in the season 26 booklet it mentions that the seventh doctor would return briefly in a 1993 charity spoof dimensions in time and then in a 90 minute 1996 telemovie staring Paul McGann. But that is another story…..

    • The Ergon

I just thought it was just a cleaned up extended copy of the original. Must do my homework. So is it all the unused scenes?

    • The Ergon

      January 26th, 2020 - 8:24pm

So to include any other unused scenes, say from ‘The awakening’, the only way it could include those scenes with Kamelion would be with the watermark covering the time clock?

    • Gordon

      January 26th, 2020 - 9:40pm

Pretty much all the extra scenes but 1 scene where the doctor wakes the inspector. The dialogue is repeated in another scene so it felt unessasary to have both scenes saying the exact same thing so it was dropped. Pretty much there is nothing else they can do as the time stamp is burned in to the vhs copy and that is the only copy of it in existence
