On Saturday 23rd November, the BFI Southbank will be screening Doctor Who: The Curse of Fenric (from the Special Edition Blu-ray) and holding a Q&A with actor Sophie Aldred and script editor Andrew Cartmel. Tickets are available from the BFI on the following dates:

Was there ever a McCoy Years VHS release that could be included?

Is it likely Daleks The Early Years and Cybermen will be included on their Season sets as I have never seen either before?

Daleks on season 1. Cybermen on season 4. That’s what I’d do. Think they stopped by the time they got to sylvester

Zoom are pretty good as I’ve had releases the Saturday, 2 days prior to the release. They also do First Class/Next Day Drlivery but at an additional charge though.

    • Lee

      September 4th, 2019 - 4:42pm

True, but I wouldn’t pay £5 for next day Zoom delivery, otherwise you’d lose the benefit of the 10% discount code. If paying that, it would be the same price to get it from Amazon, which would come via Amazon logistics anyway, and not through Royal Mail. Even sending first class post from Zoom, I still think it could have a few days delay at Christmas time (unless we get lucky and RM is extremely efficient). Hoping they take it into account and decide to send them out a few days earlier than usual.

I’m not in any rush for it, but it would be great to get it before Christmas, if possible.

Let’s not get our hopes up too much…..Season 23 k Amazon has now been put back to 7th October. Unless, of course, they’ve slated Seaon 26 for 23rd December to give plenty of time for any delays. The gap between Season 10 and 23 is about 2 months. The gap between Season 23 and 26 is nearer to 3 months?

Looking forward to getting this. My first Doctor and favourite of Classic Who. The artwork is brilliant.

I hope they manage to bring the release forward by a week on this one though (with no delays) so I can enjoy it over Christmas.

The trailer is great with the nod to what we learned in SJA Death of the Doctor.

(Waiting for the usual comments about price versus episode count, especially since it is £1 more than previous releases).

This set looks amazing! They’ve truly done it again with these features and the artwork too! Quick question though, I understand that you have broadcast versions and then extended versions of specific stories, but for what is a “work print” version of Ghost light?

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:11am

It’s an extended version, but since the deleted scenes do not exist in broadcast quality they called it that.

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:19am

The deleted scenes have a massive timestamp from what I can remember

    • David

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:25am

Oooh right I get you! Sounds amazing to ha e so much included on the set. The JNT documentary is perhaps on of the selling point along with the set as a whole for me.

    • The Mysterious Stranger

      September 3rd, 2019 - 11:24am

To expand a little further on the Ghost Light work print edition.

Almost all the episodes from this era exist as 71 edits, which is the name given to the initial rough cut of the episode before they had to be cut down to the standard 25 minutes. Often these 71 edits are used a basis for the restorations because they’re the highest quality masters

Sadly, these don’t survive for Ghost Light and the only deleted material that does survive is low-quality timecoded VHS footage. Yet, Ghost Light is largely cited as a story that would benefit from an extended edit, it was even considered during its production extending it from 3 episodes to 4. So, because of the limited source material it’s being treated as a ‘what-if’ edition, rather than as a special or extended edition, as per other stories, such as Battlefield and Fenric, hence ‘work print’ edition.

      September 3rd, 2019 - 10:39am

Is there a possibility the TV movie and wilderness years could still be a release and give Paul McGann his cover?

    • Gordon

      September 3rd, 2019 - 11:00am

After Seeing what they manage to cook up for season 23 and 26 I can definitely see it.

    • dazzleshell

      September 3rd, 2019 - 11:20am

I expect we will get a Wilderness Years Collection separately in the future. Including the TV Movie, Comic Relief special etc…

I still can’t see us getting Dimensions in Time though. Unless some of sale goes towards Children in Need and surviving cast agree to it. It was made on understanding it wouldn’t be released apparently.

Cracking set of extras. 3 versions of battlefield and curse. A workprint of ghost light. A making of for curse of fenric. A Matthew sweet in conversation with Sophie Aldred. Writers room with all the s26 writers and Andrew Cartmel. A feature length documentary on jnt. Marek anton back discussing the destroyer. There is plenty to like.

Bit disappointed with the extras on this given where the bar was set on the previous sets. Plus Janet grates on me in Behind the Sofa as she quite rudely talks over the top of the other guests.

I imagine there are more features to be announced as it seems a bit sparse for 7 discs. Perhaps the TV movie may be included…maybe not though as McGann is not on the cover and you would have thought he would have a small pic behind McCoy…
