Amazon Australia have this season penned for release on 14th Sept.

Previous releases for Australia in “The Collection” range have usually been 2 ish months behind the UK release.

So IF – this one is correct – we may be seeing this in the UK June / July.

The Swiss site that had leaked this release initially and others in the past now has release date set as 20th June. It was previously March (14th or 21st i think it said)
Although none of this seems to be officially announced by the BBC and I guess it’s possible the Swiss site I am looking at can be updated by anyone – much like Blu-ray.com

So basically – no idea, but I’m sure it will come when the time is right

You are right Auton. We could still get the three blu ray boxsets this year just released closer together than normal.

      April 24th, 2022 - 1:38pm

At this point in expecting a release in June, then maybe Sept/Oct and 1 just before Christmas.

That’s a maximum – wouldn’t surprise me at all if we only get 2, June and then Sept-Nov

Poor old season 22 seems to be cursed. When it aired it caused the hiatus in 1985, & now it seems to have done the same to the blu ray releases!
It’s definitely a season worth waiting for though as it’s one of, if not my personal favourite seasons from 80s who.

      April 19th, 2022 - 4:49pm

On a positive note, they still seem to be filming, planning and making new Blu-ray features so even though we are waiting for season 22, they are still working on the other sets so hopefully we will get a rush of new sets once season 22 gets released

This seems to get posted once a month on here. Although this could well be the release date, anybody can upload and edit information on Bluray.com. We are still waiting for confirmation from the BBC.

      April 13th, 2022 - 11:58am

These dates didn’t get taken out of thin air. The Eve/Legend one was actually taken from Amazon UK, while the Season 22 date was taken from the same Swiss site most Classic Who Blu-ray leaks come from these days and has been right in the past.

    • booboo

      April 13th, 2022 - 12:04pm

The Eve/Legend on Amazon UK is a USA Warner release and not a UK release and official dates were given a while ago.

No UK retailers haven been given an official release date from BBC Studios.

I’ve just heard a really bad rumour, which I am hoping and praying is not true!
But apparently, the BBC are concentrating more on their online platforms such as Brit Box, and want to get viewers to subscribe to these packages, rather than purchasing physical media. Obviously this is where they make their money, and gain regular income from monthly subscriptions.
As a result, they intend to stop producing BBC DVDs and BluRays very soon. As the cost of producing new material for these sets is only just barely offset against sales.
This is not a new decision either. I remember hearing a couple of years ago, that DVDs and BluRays were going to be phased out, as they want subscribers to Brit Box instead.
I’m really hoping this is just a rumour….but if it’s not, then this might explain why everything appears to be grinding to a halt.
Could this be the end of our collection range, even though we’re not even half way through yet!
    Watch this space….!

I highly doubt there’s an immediate concern for the blu-ray range. It’s been well documented that they work on three or so at a time, so we’ll definitely get more. It would also be odd to end a range prematurely, given these have been so popular that they had to release ‘standard versons’ to meet demand.

The wait for Season 22’s release date will likely be down to a combination of factors, not least that disc production is in Poland (as multiple posters to this site have highlighted).

Probably unlikely the reason, it seems more likely the whole Russia/Ukraine situation – as this wouldn’t explain why they weren’t releasing Animated Recons for the time being following Abominable Snowmen

    • Rex Farrel

      April 1st, 2022 - 4:53pm

On a serious note, I sometimes like the idea of a third party taking over the BBC’s physical media lines – a bit like when VCI partnered with the BBC and we had a big increase in archive content being released because the VCI elements took the lead. They don’t make it terribly easy to licence material at present, and if the rights haven’t transfered to BBC Studios and they’re still with the public service side of things (so older and/or less obvious material) then it’s a real pain in the proverbial. And I’ve deleted the rest of what I wrote, but there’s proper old-school BBC silliness going on still and no real justification for a lot of it. I even wonder if Capita could do it better, and shudder when I realise that I genuinely believe they could… (Scary stuff!)

    • Arcadia resident

      April 2nd, 2022 - 12:02pm

I hope that rumour isn’t the case. As When these were first published, the advertisement was to get the whole series complete of Blu-ray sales for these items. To do this and to give backword would be absolutely disgusting as surely they would have known if this collection was going to end prematurely. But then again all their ever want is to get money, money, money, typical BBC. If this was going to be the case surely they could transfer all the DVDs in to the box set as they are with extras on each disc. What are there? All they would have to do then is box it like they have been doing and then it would at least make it look the whole collection and it would be the whole collection. It’s just that you won’t have as much extras on the discs, etc. Surely that will make more sense than stopping it all together. This might just be pure speculation and I hope it is cos I don’t want to be left with half a collection after being told to buy them as we would end up with the full collection.

Chris chapman posted this yesterday: There’s sometimes an assumption that we’re just working on the next #WhoRay set, but I can tell you that right now, having delivered our S22 doc, I’m in various stages of production on docs for FOUR other sets plus a standalone release. And researching docs for two further boxes!

If they are stopping physical media it definitely doesn’t sound like it

      April 2nd, 2022 - 8:40pm

“Build your own Doctor Who archive with the ultimate collector’s set!”

Well, if this is on a long hault, I predict the chanting of the National Lottery advert music outside the BBC with a rally of Whovians, with Colin Baker there on interview “I said that I thought it was going to Pot, of course I was right, I’m a Timelord!”

…but let’s keep calm and carry on. If we all peform our rituals from Planet of the Spiders, eventually I’ve no doubt a lovely colourful copy of Season 22 will appear for all of us. Brave Heart Tegan.

Pretty sure we were all writing the same “OMG they’re never going to finish the collection now!” stuff when COVID hit two years ago just in time to delay the Season 14 release…

    • Bobby Fackrell

      April 3rd, 2022 - 10:04am

Erato, you beat me to it! We had a year without releases after 14 came out due to the Covid delays and that put everything on pause. It’s very likely there could be a delay due to materials and costs in production not helped by the current global problems.
I don’t think there is a conspiracy, this team do such an excellent job on these releases no other TV series I can think of get the amount of care and attention than the Doctor Who episodes get. Most BBC series are just transfers from old tapes watching Only Fools and Horses DVDs is no different to watching the VHS. Even Star Trek haven’t converted DS9 or Voyager to HD. Much to my anger on the DS9 side
These sets are brilliant and rich in content and look and sound wonderful. We have already got loads released so far and now re-released and we still moan!
Also it’s only series 22 for Goodness sake! If 2 was in this situation I would be sweating a little but I would not make so much fuss.

It will be ready when it’s ready and in the meantime there’s more Doctor Who available then ever, why not explore the Big Finish universe? The New Eccleston ones are fantastic!

Well, i’m being unusually patient about the wait for this set, but i know it will be worth the wait as I’m a huge fan of ole’ sixie. Also the magic of having the dvd collection to currently fall back on I’m having fun creating my own little themed seasons, currently on the key to time & aiming to follow it up with the black guardian trilogy. The whoniverse is really a world where we can make of it & do what we want with it, it’s great!

My opinion, just that, is that not all the Seasons will. People do stream or whatever it’s called and the last release Flux was poorly packaged so I didn’t buy that. The Steelbook at £38 is overpriced. I think we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed eh?

ITV isn’t investing in BritBox anymore and it’s nothing to do with the BBC as they’ve been bought out. It’ll be ITVX come autumn

    • D84

      April 7th, 2022 - 8:25am

Yes I have seen that too, in regards to the BBC selling off their 10% stake in Britbox UK and the service itself likely becoming a “channel” within the new ITVX platform.

It may mean – our hopes of Britbox investing in further Doctor Who Animations is also now dashed 🙁

      We can hope

As someone who takes no notice of Rumours . Something comes out S and when it comes out.

But I fo belive that the Blu ray/DvD disc’s are made in Poland* for BBC Studios. Bearing in mind Poland is having a covid outbreak in some parts, while other parts are dealing with the massive refugee crisis from Ukraine. A lot of people are helping with the crisis with Drivers Diverted to deal with the crisis ,it may be sometime before more concrete news and dates can be given.

      March 27th, 2022 - 5:35pm

‘They dare to tamper with the forces of creation?’

‘Yes they dare! And we have to dare to stop them!’

The Aztecs has to be one of my all time favourites. Series two not quite as good as series one but I definitely prefer Viki to Susan. It has some real belters like The Crusades, Time Meddler, Dalek Invasion, Rescue and The Romans but some mingers as well like The Space Museum, The Chase and Planet of Giants. I don’t actually mind The Web Planet, it’s no golden nugget but compared to the three I have just mentioned it’s really good!

Love the first Doctor such a shame series three is so dented, The Massacre is a classic! But equally we are lucky so much of series one and two exist as the earlier Hartnell stuff is the better, which is true of many Doctors with a few exceptions like Colin Baker and McCoy

    • Rex Farrel

      March 30th, 2022 - 2:08am

Prof: the pressing plants are being closed left, right and centre, and only kept in the cheapest places mainly. The USA has it even worse, with only one pressing plant left in the whole country and most production moved to Mexico – but they must be fully booked too as recent Paramount US discs have “manufactured in Germany, packaged in USA” labels on them. The pressed media situation is not at its best right now.

      March 30th, 2022 - 6:32am

I like The Keys of Marinus I think it’s really good, love a good quest story, it’s essentially a mini Keys to Time. It’s very dark in places too especially the ice episode

The Chase is terrible but as for funny I suppose the sunbathing scene did make me laugh
      ‘What’s that horrible noise?’

    • the Ergon

      March 30th, 2022 - 8:34am

There are Scenes in ‘Keys’ that are so bad theyre laughable, some of the dialogue even more so. The ‘Monty Python’ knights and the rope bridge in the Ice caverns springs to mind. Hilarious. As for The Chase, The Mire beast breaking through the Wall and attacking Barbara always has me in stitches.

Well if you like season 25 (which I don’t) that’s fair enough. But if you have only three releases a year , don’t have two of the three from the eighties in the same year.

    • D84

      March 22nd, 2022 - 1:03pm

Personally I like S25 – Purely for Rememberance. Silver Nemesis is also a fave of mine but generally viewed as a bit weak I know.

I agree though in spacing out the 80’s sets, and I’m sure the team do too so I don’t think we will see S25 this year.

With S9 being predicted as next/this year – that leaves potentially another Tom set, maybe Peter’s S20 or our first B&W outing to round off 2022 releases of indeed we get another 3 this year.

I really don’t mind which way it goes – I’m invested in the range so will be grabbing them all if I can

Well I am a child of the late 80s and there’s a gapping hole I’d love to fill between the two McCoy’s.

Also if two is next is a monster, three times the episode count of twenty five so they may want to put a smaller one out after

    • D84

      March 24th, 2022 - 10:24pm

      Also true Bobby.

I recall a mention before regarding the early sets potentially being huge purely because of episode counts, be interesting to see the disc numbers and packaging design for S1-S6

Are we expecting 10+ discs? Any thoughts?

I also imagine there may be a large amount of extras knocking around for those years (Blue Peter appearances etc)

      Hmmm

Disk one – Planet of the Giants
Disk Two – Dalek Invasion of the Earth
Disk Three – The Rescue/The Romans
Disk Four – The Web Planet
      Disk Five – The Crusades
Disk Six – The Space Museum
      Disk Seven – The Chase
Disk Eight – The Time Meddler

I’m Hoping for a 60s set or two soon. Spaces put both eras (black and white & colour).
Being thick maybe but can’t you get double sided dvd/blu ray disks? Thought I read it somewhere years ago. Would keep disc count down and the box less bulky/weigh less. I know wouldn’t be able to put a design on the discsso that be a Down point

    • Prof Horner

      March 26th, 2022 - 11:26pm

Regarding the sixties sets. How many episodes can you get on a Blu ray disc? I am thinking of season 6 . I am sure The War Games will be over two disc’s , but could the Invasion be on one disc? There are seven stories in season 6 ,if two of the stories are on two disc’s , then we are talking at least ten disc or possibly eleven . I think season 5 could probably be an eight disc set. DWM is out this week, so let’s hope there is news on a release date for season 22.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      March 27th, 2022 - 10:46pm

It is complicated it depends if they are 25 GB or 50 GB disks. The storage depends on whether it is standard definition or high definition. So the original special features which are transferred over don’t take up too much space, the new special features are usually filmed in HD so that takes up most space. The War Games I think they could easily do on a single disk for the episodes but bonus features would probably be a separate disk which would make sense as there usually is a bonus disk anyway. Space Pirates could essentially be tagged on to Seeds of Death. So far eight disks has been the biggest size but I don’t think that’s a bench mark bearing in mind they are longer series. I can see them potentially going to 10 disks, 8 could be tight

It will be released when it’s ready

    • D84

      March 20th, 2022 - 12:46pm

Casting our minds back to 2021 – we got the S24 announcement with trailer and pre order opened – but no release date in January and the set eventually arrived late June.

I’m not saying this is the start of a pattern, or what I think is going to happen here – but it’s not the first time it’s been done like this

    • Bobby Fackrell

      March 20th, 2022 - 1:43pm

But 24 was the middle release anyway so June was right, 9 came out earlier in the year and 17 later. That’s not the same scenario 22 is the first release March/April is about right and we are still in March anyway – June is just someone guessing it’s not based on anything officially announced you might as well say November

    • Who is who?

‘Wow, in three months time, why so long?’

‘That’s all you’re getting, I could go to prison for telling you these things.’

‘But wait how I will I able to find you?’

‘You won’t after this meeting we cannot see each other for several months! It’s too dangerous!’

‘Wow! June! Wait till I post that online! That will put the Dalek amongst the Cybermen!’

    • MIKK89

      March 20th, 2022 - 9:01pm

If the truth is that its getting released in June, I do wonder if its a way to try and spread out as many as possible as since 2018 we have had (in released order) 12, 19, 18, 10, 23, 26, 14, 08, 24 and 17. That’s 10 of the 26 Season sets released over 4 years so far… I welcome them taking time with it as these sets are great, though it’s confusing as they are supposed to do the BFI screenings for these as a way to hype the release… but when you don’t have a release Date for it it just seems pointless…

    • Bobby Fackrell

      March 20th, 2022 - 9:20pm

    • Bobby Fackrell

      March 16th, 2022 - 8:59pm

I don’t get what the fuss is about!

They don’t have a release date yet, they never did, we’ll know it when they announce it and the orders will be invoiced when they are dispatched so it’s not like they have taken our money.

22 is coming soon and 9 and 22 are likely to be later this year. I am ecstatic about 2! 17 was only released in December which was not that long ago, we have a healthy number of series released on blu ray now and being reissued as standard releases too, and a number of animations including Evil of the Daleks which is the best Doctor Who story ever and the blu ray was excellent and surpassed my nervous expections. It was only a few years ago when they said Spearhead in Space would be the only blu ray and we are in an economic downward slump with food and fuel spiralling look at the positives you are saving 50 quid so chill out and be satisfied

I’ll be surprised if Season 9 is next. Katy Manning was in Australia until about a month ago so is unlikely to be featured in the two Blu-ray features Chris Chapman filmed during that time. My bet is Season 2 after 22.

      March 19th, 2022 - 10:37am

There isn’t a delay as many keep saying they have never announced a release date so it can’t be delayed. June is just a guess without an official announcement you have nothing to base that on, it will be released when it is ready.
They are trying to release 3 a year but it’s not a guarantee

    • DPHill

      March 21st, 2022 - 2:06pm

      agree with you bobby

also, season 9 is probably in the works, when I saw Katy, only a week or two ago she had mentioned about very recently seeing the sea devils and then saying i couldn’t tell, she laughed saying but that does tell you doesn’t it?

anyways, we are being treated to wonderful sets, any perceived delay is only on the fan’s part of wanting it so bad, they’re doing amazingly with these so patience is a good tool in waiting for them to complete what is necessary to retain what is so special about them.

Season 2 and 9 will surely be, this time next year, released or announced!

    • Bobby Fackrell

      March 21st, 2022 - 3:24pm

      Well said my friend

Also don’t forget two is massive, the 60s series were 40 episodes plus, double the average series size of the 70s and 80s

Series two will be like getting two releases so I would not complain if it was only 22 and 2 this year

    March 12th, 2022 - 8:20pm

To my earlier comment about Peter and Maureen letting slip about season 2, the pair were very jovial about it and didn’t really cover up their slip and just said oh well what’s done is done and we have done our bit on another collection set, the pair were very good dynamically so I am looking forward to their probable combined contribution on behind the sofa

Maureen was asked whether she had watched DW since her run, she replied no, not once, with an exception of Rose in 2005, this prompted Peter’s little slip as he said well no you watched some the other day when we finished working on that set – they were lovely and I can’t wait for our first Hartnell set

Cant believe I missed that. What questions did you ask Colin, sophie, Katy or Maureen? and what merchandise did you pick up DP?

    • DPHill

      March 14th, 2022 - 1:04pm

I didn’t get much of a chance with Colin other than how much he loves Russell and how he would hope to see them again, he joked the bbc have been in touch, but not about “that” (returning, who knows of the joke was a joke- time will tell)

Sophie was coy about rumours of returning and said that she is going to be the fourteenth doctor so I am unsure whether she is going to appear, she was cryptic but did hint she is doing lots of who projects

Katy was going on rather a lot about sea devils and alluded to having watched it recently when I asked about them… possibly season 9 behind the sofa I’m guessing, she mentioned to the people in front of me that doing things without Stewart was weird rather than will be… she was adorable and I even managed to get a pic with her outside the convention

Peter mentioned that he is always last to know anything of the animations and said they keep changing their mind because of money (we were talking about daleks master plan and mission to the unknown, so I’m not sure what he was hinting at here)

Maureen simply confirmed peters slip and said that she thought they weren’t meant to say but it was the first time she had done a thing like that and she said she won’t be bothered about keeping quiet or noisy about future ones, she doesn’t understand the blu ray hype, she did judge Peter on the panel after noticing him starting to slip – the season 2 stuff is done she said on the oldies part.

There wasn’t a great deal of what I was interested in regarding merchandise , but there was some gorgeous artwork by Connor Adkins, check out his Instagram and twitter, and I picked up mainly the autographs on my preowned dvds, as well as a cyber man print!

  • DPHill

    March 12th, 2022 - 8:04pm

We are definitely getting season 2 much sooner than we think, things are in the works.
I was at a sheffield DW convention today and Peter Purves let slip that he and Maureen OBrien had recently worked together on the season 2 blu ray set, which he explicitly said. Maureen Later said I thought he was t meant to say but it makes no difference to me because that was the first kind of thing she had done for the blu ray range – so good news is season 2 is a lot closer than we think :))

    Season 9 (Winter 2022)
    Season 16 (early 2023)

    • D84

      March 11th, 2022 - 3:12pm

I’m sure S22 will come when the time is right and as a product its ready.

Lets not have another one rushed where we get incorrect disc artwork (S10 disc labels on S12 2nd edition release) or issues with content requiring disc’s needing replacing or missing and repeated pages in the booklets.

Just throwing it out there, as this season is renowned for being “violent” do we think there could be issues with BBFC classification?

It seems that S9 and S2 are in the works based on snippets of info regarding extras and colour recovery / restoration being completed.

S20 has also been on the rumour mill for some time but suspected to be delayed due to travel restrictions preventing filming of extra’s in Amsterdam and availability of Mark Strickson to contribute. As that is all starting to ease and fade now – its possible we may see S20 within the next few releases

I think the three releases for this year will be:
      1. Season 22
      2. Seaon 9
      3. Season 5

    • DPHill

      March 14th, 2022 - 2:55pm

I think season 2 instead of 5, Peter Purves and Maureen oBrien have both let slip that it’s done special features wise, and looking at it, abominable is not out yet and knowing it’s coming they would want to space it out as not to miss out on the double dippers as well as having four unfinished episodes from wheel compared to two for crusade

22 in early april (synonymous with its actual rough end time)
09 mid year (sea devil merchandising and same end time as the actual thing)
02 later on ( similar to its start in 1964)

Lee binding also mentioned to me that the next few sets involve a lot of twos, that’s 22, possibly 20 as that has a two, 2 itself, as well as 9 from 19-seventy-“2”

Looks like they will hopefully be able to move forward with season 20 extras at some point soon. Unless he has to pull out Mark Strickson has got 2 conventions in the U.K. lined up. Capital 5 in the start of April and utopia in the middle of July. I do also wonder if they could also bank his contributions to season 21 extras at the same time seeing as it would prevent the same situation from happening again. That could all depend on his availability though.

If it was going anywhere on the collection sets it would be either 22 or a wilderness years set in my opinion. I think putting it on season 2 wouldn’t make that much sense seeing as the sontarans aren’t in season 2. It could be just lee watching it for the sake of watching it. He is a fan after all.

      February 17th, 2022 - 4:17pm

Yes, it’s probably more likely that Lee is just rewatching an old VHS to enjoy the story. Still, one does hope that Shakedown will get a re-release one day.

A bit off-topic, but if anyone has a ‘spare’ Season 12 cardboard slipcase they don’t want, then let me know?
I stupidly threw mine away (it was the first boxset I got & didn’t think I’d end up getting them all!)…

I think the trailer shows some Two Doctors studio footage that wasn’t on the dvd? Perhaps from the JNT collection? Presumably if they had any Troughton behind the scenes footage on the disc it would have been used in the trailer – I’m sure I read that JNT started having some studio tapes wiped to stop bootleg copies getting out, and The Two Doctors would to my mind have been the studio tapes certain people would have been keenest to get.

He had loads of studio footage at one point but according to an old dwm article, after the show ended he ended up taping over the footage with episodes of coronation Street etc that he had missed.

I can confirm what Lewis says is true. I have a tape of studio footage from Vengence on Varos that JNT took home but it doesn’t have any studio material on it now because he taped Doctor Doolittle over the top. I have kept it because its a lovely artefact to have anyway and seeing the labelling they used in studio scribbled over in biro with “Dr Doolittle” written over the top in JNTs handwriting makes it something worth keeping.

No that S22 is announced, although we don’t have a release date as yet – what are peoples thoughts on the next set in the range.

    Which season
    Release date
    Mini trailer theme?

Anyone got any news, or actors seen on location, Twitter rumblings etc?

Rumoured to be season 9, presumably with Katy Manning as Jo Grant with a sea devil or Dalek, presumably not in the raw this time!

    • Gordon

      January 31st, 2022 - 2:52pm

Season 2 or 9 next. Probably June/July at the earliest

For season 2: Peter purves has said that he has done behind the sofa with Maureen o Brian and carol ann Ford for season 2. Bonnie Langford has also to have done behind the sofa for it. For the trailer theme I suspect it’s going to be carol post dalek invasion.

Season 9: colour recovery for time monster has been done last year for it. Trailer theme: Katy out at Portsmouth with a sea devil.

will episodes 2 & 4 of The Crusade be animated for season 2 release ?

    • Auton

      January 31st, 2022 - 3:48pm

Highly unlikely John, the budget for the collections won’t be able to cover animating an episode, let alone 2 sadly

Oh Philip Shaw happy memories! Season 9 next, fingers crossed!

    • Gordon

      January 31st, 2022 - 5:01pm

Most certainly will not be animated. The budgets of the collection sets don’t stretch that far to do animations.

Be great if they got Peter Capaldi in for a 60’s season behind the sofa.

    • Rob W

      January 31st, 2022 - 6:45pm

I don’t entirely agree that the 2 episodes won’t be animated. Those episodes that exist as 16mm film recordings might enable the upscaling to HD to be easier to achieve. Any new extras features are of course limited because of the few original cast or production staff able to be interviewed, but that’s also true of many serials from the original series.

we do have a release date for season 22 14th march

    • Gordon

      February 1st, 2022 - 8:19am

We don’t. 14th of March is not officially confirmed by the bbc

    • DPHill

      February 1st, 2022 - 1:58pm

Well there are definitely three sets in the works as I spoke to Lee Binding recently after this announcement and he is working on three sets (I think 2, 9, 20) he remained relatively tight lipped but hinted that there’s a lot of twos… we had 22, any Davison is a 2 and season 2 obviously is, 9 also happens in 1972… so that’s my guess

    • AnimatedDoc

      February 1st, 2022 - 2:48pm

Well they did new animation the 6 part version of shada on s17 set so

    • Auton

      February 1st, 2022 - 4:37pm

Yea but it was only minor changes to the shade animation and adding in opening and closing credits. Animating a whole episode from scratch is not possible for the blu ray collection budget as that money needs to be spent on new special features and improved picture and sound on surviving episodes.

    • Gordon

      February 1st, 2022 - 4:44pm

@ DPHill that’s not a surprise. I’m certain lee has Previously said he normally has 3-4 covers at various states at 1 time.

@animatedDoc That wasn’t strictly new though. All they did to shada was edit the 2017 version into 6 parts, added some people walking around Cambridge on the opening animated sequence and a short 1 minute scene on part 4 using already existing assets. It’s nowhere near comparable to a brand new crusade animation that would need at least 2 dozen credited character models, over a dozen sets and bunch of costume changes. It’s more work than any of the animations we have had so far despite only being 2 episodes

I wonder if series one is to be released on the 60th anniversary as many are guessing and perhaps planned for November next year maybe 2 will be next up so they are not too close together with 9 being the December release this year? Next year I think 13, 20 and 1 if the strong rumours of 2 and 9 are correct. I think 25 and 6 must be coming soon, maybe 2024

It is basically conformd it’s on blu ray .com

    • Gordon

      February 4th, 2022 - 10:42am

That’s not a confirmation. Anybody can edit and add information to it. That date is based off a swiss website which may or may not be right. This same website had the standard version on 14 due out on the 21st of March and that turned out to be off by three weeks. It’s confirmed when the bbc themselves have confirmed it which they haven’t.

This is a bit of out there question but I’m starting to look ahead to future releases. In regards to season 9, the Restoration team website states that the film sequences for the “latter half of the cliff climb sequence” and the “pit fight sequence” in Curse of Peladon survive in private collections.

2 questions, I don’t own the DVD so I can’t tell whether what survives is original A/B negative or the broadcast print, but the cliff sequence looks a bit like it could be neg quality based on the compressed dailymotion video I watched.

Second question, does anyone know whether the team has access to these sequences to be remastered again for the upcoming blu-ray? This is a more open ended question I must say…

The Restoration Team website says regarding the Peladon Tales DVD release in 2010 “Although no film sequences exist in the library, two sequences do exist in private hands. The latter half of the cliff-climb sequence from the opening of the first episode was loaned by collector John Ainsworth, and the pit-fight sequence from episode three by Tony Walsh, son of stuntman Terry Walsh, who had doubled for Jon Pertwee in that scene.”

I can’t answer the second point, I understood previous releases worked from the existing DVD masters but I’m sure someone else may be able to assist.

There’s a story in one online newspaper today claiming there may be more missing episodes put there.

Someone claims there are 17 episodes in the middle East but not returned for political reasons.

Never know could be true, a hope

I remember a story just like this one back in 2010, with rumors of The Tenth Planet part 4 being held in Africa, similarly for political reasons.

That was 12 years ago, so even if both situations were legit, what’s to suggest any movement can be made before 2034?

I guess just knowing the film actually exists and was never destroyed, and holds too much value to ever be wiped again would be enough.. but I’d certainly rather we just got these episodes back.

I’m with you James, let’s hope.

Any lost film copies are the best part of 50 to 60 years old so will need a fair bit of restoration.

I send my grateful thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this post as I have a couple of questions with regards to future Blu Ray releases and the overall buying experience. Firstly which of the remaining Jon Pertwee seasons is most likely to be out next and furthermore could it be on sale this year?. Also I ordered and paid for my Season 22 set a couple of days ago. I have ordered this time from HMV having previously used both Zoom and Amazon. So I am wondering about other fans experience of using HMV – do they deliver promptly and package the items to a good standard?. Once again many thanks to anyone who takes the time to respond.

As for the Jon Pertwee question, Season 9 is most likely due to the fact this year is the 50th and reports of colour restoration tests on some of the stories from that season has been mentioned.

It seems smart money is on season 9. With probably season 11In a couple of years and season 7 the last of the Pertwee seasons.I always use Amazon which has never let me down yet. If you have read my previous post you won’t be buying any after Davison.

I’ve not had recent experience of ordering from HMV, I did receive the Steelbook release on Saturday before the Monday release day, so 2 days early and it was packaged in a sturdy card box. I also ordered from instore collection and again the Steelbook discs were sturdily packed. As you know doubt know, you can Ring and Reserve, they should also be willing to order for you in store too if you ask.

I always order any of these DW collection sets from HMV, as they’re reliable and pack them well, with no/very miniscule damage – and I’m VERY picky when it comes to that sort of thing, so you’re in good hands with them! The free postage will get it delivered on the day of release, or the more expensive delivery option will get it there the Saturday before the release date as I’ve experienced before.

I think it’s highly likely that Season 9 Blu-Ray will be the next announced. Big Finish have released Peladon Box set celebrating the 50th anniversary, the next Doctor Who story in 2022 has Sea Devils in it

Chris Chapman has tweeted that he’s already worked/ing on a Making of and Looking for film. Considering Katy Manning only returned from a long stay in Australia last week, I suspect Season 9 may not be the very next set we see…
