Might this get a re-release like Season 12? I pre-ordered mine from base about a week or 2 ago, but got a message today saying my order has been cancelled due to it being out of stock.

Yes me too. Completely upset as I have every set so far & every DVD that’s ever been released!! I pray somewhere will get another allocation somewhere along the line as it’s been the thought of getting this that’s seen me through lockdown so far.

You could try Argos once it’s released (they don’t do pre-orders).

I was a bit late on this and had to order from Base.com. Has anyone had any experience with them before? Hope they are okay! When I ordered in late-March everywhere else was sold out! Annoyingly it seems it came and went in HMV over the last few weeks.

This set seems much more popular than other sets released recently. I waited a few week/months after the actual release date before ordering my season 26 set! Can’t deny these sets are popular though. Best thing to do is preorder as soon as they come up for sale. Lesson learnt!

I’ve ordered Switch games from there and never had any issues so I’m sure your order will be fine.

Due to the pandemic just got to be patient as delivery might not be on or before release day wherever you get it from.

Not sure when I will get season 14 on Blu Ray as I am away from home at the moment, staying with my brother in the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Looks like I will have to wait for the American release as with season 12. That’s is unless Sainsbury in Thetford have it. Stay safe everyone.

I too ordered from Base.com as everyone else sold out and today got email saying my order outside of stock allocation? Is there a shortage due to virus or is box set so popular?

    April 22nd, 2020 - 1:16pm

I am now worried about this season 14 release. Once again sold out everywhere so if there are any issues with the orders we have placed thats it. No other chance to get it. I ordered mine from zoom. They recently changed warehouses and have been messing up my other orders and they have had to reorder items from scratch to replace items that said they had dispatched when they hadn’t. Eight items went astray. If they do that with season 14 replacements will not be possible as it is sold out. I hope it is delayed until all this chaos is over and released in increased volume at a later date.

They shouldn’t delay it because people were slow in getting their order in; it has been available for purchase for literally months and months. Last minute buyers complaining about not getting a copy misunderstand the limited nature of the release. I’m expecting S14 by May 4th, some joy during this miserable lockdown!

    • Timelord44

      April 22nd, 2020 - 3:46pm

Adam i ordered mine day 1. I am just saying that this crisis is causing issues for warehouses and many mistakes have been made where orders have had to be started again from scratch. There is a real possibility that some people wont get this item if it is released in this chaotic time even if they ordered it day 1. I would prefer it delayed to a time when things will go more smoothly.

      April 22nd, 2020 - 4:04pm

Agree with Adam I followed it right till it released for pre order from day one on the Blu-ray special web that tells u what’s coming and pre order it in time off hmv never will see this being delayed as by season 12 was the same for end of March and people got it earlier then that

    • Anonymous

      April 22nd, 2020 - 4:29pm

Think your argument is with zoom and their delivery process rather then delaying a bluray.

This situation isn’t going to calm down anytime soon so it would be foolish to halt production that is likely already completed. That is warehouse space being taken up. If they delay 1 release it will be a chain reaction so they won’t.

I’ve ordered a number of high demand items- FF7, animal crossing, star wars and a Ltd. Edition colour of space bluray, and they all arrived, a day or two late.

      April 22nd, 2020 - 9:13pm

I pre-ordered the Skywalker Saga box set from Zoom.

Due to be released on the 20th (Monday), I received an email advising of dispatch on the Thursday prior. It arrived yesterday (21st), later than the expected Saturday (based on previous experience), bur understandable given the current situation.

So it is likely that S14 will be dispatched on time but may take a bit longer to arrive than usual.

That’s right adam.everyone has the same opportunity to preorder these sets and as they are popular they sell out quick.i learnt my lesson with season 12. That was only put right by a rerelease of it as lot less copies were made and then they brought it up to the level they make of the recent releases.i feel sorry for these people as they may desperately want a copy but best hope now is find someone who has ordered two or hope someone on eBay is not a greedy pig.keep looking around.

Quick tip though at the moment simplyhe.com have them in stock for £49.99. Be quick

Just a quick update, I have just been on to HMV’s online store it appears that this season 14 set is now available to pre-order again, having previously been labelled out of stock. And I’d like to echo the caution that others have laid out, when the pre-order link comes, its best to do it as soon as it comes online. The Limited Edition nature of these is unmistakable.
Hope this helps anyone that hasn’t got one yet.

I hear people saying they’ve been given a dispatch date: I ordered the day the set was announced from Amazon, and am currently being told, “we’ll email you as soon as we have a delivery date”, is this normal? Is this because they don’t have enough copies and they may have to cancel my order? Is anyone else seeing this on their “order details” page? Just worried as everyone else seems to have been given a delivery date.

Just to confirm, I am not worried if there is a delay in these times: this product is a luxury, not an essential, and we’re just so lucky to be receiving them despite world events. However I just want to put my mind at rest and prepare for the worst if needs be.
    Stay safe everyone.

Some delays to delivery dates are for non-essential purchasers.

There is no concern at all. Because of COV19- ALL none essential items are now auto tagged with the “we will let you know” email.Dvds, blu rays, games, books are not essential so get tagged.

its an automatic process – exactly the same thing has happened with my star wars 9 blu ray and final fantasy 7, all arrived within 24hrs of release date

It allows amazon space to deliver essentials as priority.

“so fast”………………………………..you realise this was up for pre order since January and there was still availability last week which has since passed???

Really gets me, BBC have always been upfront with the “limited edition” nature of the release and we are now onto the 7th release- all selling out, people are lucky to find them in stores. With the current situation, all online pre orders will be even more precious.

As a doctor who fan and a collector, if I see “limited edition” it should always be treated as such.

      April 20th, 2020 - 12:46pm

Completely agree with Anonymous. Pre-order it early and either pay by credit card or put enough money by each month so you can pay for it in full when it comes out. They are limited edition but also well worth the cash given the extra special features and sound/picture restoration that is involved. If you don’t wanna collect them anymore, there’s plenty of buyers on eBay who want them.

      April 19th, 2020 - 11:34am

I think it is likely that the trailer was already filmed before the pandemic as the Season 27 Ace trailer was filmed at the same time as her interview with Matthew Sweet (hence the same location and outfit) so it is likely the Season 20 trailer was filmed at the same time as some of the other new features for the set. Even if the set will be released later than August, I would still love a trailer and for it to be available to pre-order from now. But I think August/September release is most likely and then probably one more after that in December.

      Release Date ?

Is there a new release date for this now then ?

  • isitneil

    April 16th, 2020 - 3:42pm

Just as a number of others have said:-
    ** ALWAYS PRE ORDER
…and as far as possible pre order as soon as the listings go live. It’s a given now that these limited edition sets will sell out on pre order ; or during pre order. If you don’t you most likely will miss out or have to consider spending higher marketplace prices.

With AMAZON if you pre order and when time for actual release arrives your payment method fails or is declined it’s no problem. They will continue to hold the item for you for another 7 days so you can pay for the item or amend your payment details. So at that time of pre ordering it doesn’t matter where the actual money comes from…. in effect you are pre-reserving an item. As long as you keep an eye on your emails so if this occurs you have plenty of time to make payment and then get it sent out to you.

Having started this collection and got the first 6 sets I’m now not gonna risk loosing out on one.
I pre order every time now.

    As I started out saying….
……IF YOU DONT PRE ORDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. YOU RISK MISSING OUT.

No more copies on the Louise Jameson website, I’ve just checked. Also, I think (apart from forking out extortionate amounts on Ebay, around £70-£90, I think you may have missed the boat. Forgive me if there’s some website that’s still stocking it but I can list off a few reliable websites that have sold out: Zavvi, Zoom, HMV and Amazon. Bad luck. 🙁

I really hope this one makes it for the current release date of 4th May. We’ve never had a delay this close to release (ignoring the 2nd edition) although I expect it due to COVID-19.

I’m not sure they will. I’ve read that the boxsets are produced in Italy, which previously was one of the most affected countries. Additionally, the American releases (which aren’t made in Italy) of both this season and series 12 have been pushed back a few weeks according to Amazon. This season isn’t coming out until August and it was originally slated for June or July.

Phillip Morris has recently said that he knows of at least six missing episodes held in the hands of private collectors. He was interviewed for Fantom’s virtual convention ‘Time Space Visualiser’ (link below). This could be good news for the Seasons 1-6 boxsets that are yet to be released.

What a traumatising concept, THAT many missing episodes exist but in the hands of collectors who dont want to share them

    • David

      April 7th, 2020 - 4:54pm

But like Phillip says, some feel they will be treated badly and therefore they don’t feel like sharing them because they don’t want to be trolled. All because of the small majority of people who get very angry about this. Yes we all want to see these episodes, I myself would love to find out what they are and see them, but if people are rude towards these people, we may never see them.

Many many moons ago, I actually saw a very fuzzy copy of Fury from the Deep – part 1.
It was obviously a copy of a copy of a copy…. and so on.
But the good thing is, that this means there must be several people out there that have copies of this. It doesn’t matter how bad the quality is…. they are definitely out there my friends.

Exactly, and there lies the problem; a lot of them don’t want to come forward with what they have because they are afraid about how they will be treated. I remember reading a lot of abuse that Phillip Morris received on Twitter after the release of TEOTW and TWOF because many believed that he hadn’t handed over all of the episodes he had found.

I was also thinking about the sixties collections, I was thinking that as they have these optional updated effects, maybe they would instead opt for an optional colourisation of a story of that season – no doubt that will be more expensive though – any thoughts?

I’m really hoping they do a wilderness set as there’s plenty of material and to have mcgann’s face would be great to see.

Also, a full set of SJA would be brilliant, like having three stories per disc and relevant special features with a small, new making-of featurette for each story and a behind the sofa for each story, this, all featured with news snippets relevant to the stories on the disc would easily fill up nine discs and then a slew of in conversation documentaries (tommy knight, daniel anthony, john leeson, alexander armstrong, yasmin paige, sinead michael, anjli mohindra) and perhaps even a new UNIT family documentary for the new era of who could feature on it. They could even have a stripped for action and tomorrows times for sarah jane and a larger documentary with the cast about the shows entire history, featuring school reunion would also be a nice touch. writer’s rooms for each series, the unfinished series i feel there is an easy three discs worth of extras from what i have mentioned – twelve disc set anyone? who doesn;t want to see the attic in all its glory as the menu page – wowuld also love a small feature on the trickster… thoughts?

how would people imagine sja, wilderness years, torchwood and sixties sets panning out?

I like the idea of a ‘Behind the Sofa’ like idea being done for TSJA and Torchwood. But give them show relevant names, example The Sarah Jane Adventures could feature a rebuilt Attic, as the supporting cast revisit all the episodes. Torchwood could be ‘Anti-Retcon’ and would love to see More extras for 2009’s 5-part epic ‘Children of Earth’

Perhaps SJA should be called ‘In the Attic’ or ‘The Attic Sofa’ and Torchwood ‘By the Rift’ or ‘Below the Sofa’

I’ve pre-ordered this through HMV’s website, the money hasn’t left my account yet, I assume that my copy won’t go to someone else despite the fact my money hasn’t been taken yet? I only ask as everywhere says it is sold out now… Also a disclaimer, I don’t mind having to wait for the release as these are difficult times. I am by no means trying to get annoyed at a delay, just reassurance that when it is ready to dispatch it’ll be fulfilled?

From my experience with HMV and pre-orders, they won’t take the money out of your account until it’s released, so don’t worry, your copy is safe.

With amazon once you’ve pre order the item is reserved for you EVEN if your payment is declined once release date set and preparing to dispatch. In this case they continue to hold the item for 7 days and email you requesting payment.

Once preordered and confirmed you have it pre ordered you will only loose out if your chosen payment method is declined twice and the 7 day period comes and goes and you haven’t updated or paid for it. As I said they will make a minimum of two attempts to take payment and will give you 7 days to make payment.

I would assume it will be a similar system for hmv. KEEP AN EYE AND Regularly check your emails and seller account inbox. You won’t loose the dvd if you do this and action any requests.

Had an update for mine today saying delayed until May 12th. I’m not fussed really… just glad these keep coming. Wonder when the next preorder will come. I’m guessing season 20 next. Wonder if we’ll see it on preorder anytime before summer though.

I personally couldn’t care less when it comes out as long as it’s done properly without mistakes (e.g. special features, wrong disc art etc.). As long as you’ve preordered it, you should get it no matter what time of the year it’s released. No point rushing it during these difficult times.

It depends how long the current situation persists. Until it’s resolved these releases will need to be put on hold. So it’s quite possible there won’t be any more this year. I really hope that isn’t the case.

      March 23rd, 2020 - 3:12pm

Season 20 is pretty much done but they were waiting for one last extra to be filmed in Amsterdam which I imagine won’t be happening now.

I imagine the Blu Ray range is going to take a big hit because of the virus limiting what extras they can produce (although they have been banking them, which may mean they have some sets available to bring forward if something isn’t ready). The animated range will probably carry on without hinderance but the actual release may be held up depending on manufacturing and distribution availability. For example, I imagine that the BBC’s team can start work on whatever their follow up to The Faceless Ones is (as a lot of the staff work remotely anyway), but it may not come out until later in 2021 because the shops will be shut and online retailers like Amazon will be focusing on food and medicine once existing stock clears.

    • Anonymous

      March 28th, 2020 - 3:11am

They’ve been banking interviews well in advance in order to be safe, not just with the older actors. Anything could happen, all it takes is a total lockdown to mess up your interview plans.

I imagine the Tom Baker sets will be more popular now that people have been able to get Season 12. That and it is one of his earlier seasons.

Concept: I know that the team have said they wanted to do the new series (2005 onwards) in the style of these sets, but would they expand this for the spinoffs?

Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, Class, would it fit, and how?

    • Gordon

      March 9th, 2020 - 1:07am

Sja would probably work best as a 9-10 disc set covering all 5 seasons. Torchwood would work as 4 seperate releases of 3-4 discs each. Class I just can’t see it get another release. It has its fans but I can’t see it being popular enough to justify another go around on disc

    • Jordan9364

      March 9th, 2020 - 2:58am

I just hope to god that if they do the new series, they include the 2009 specials in the Series 4 set and the 2013 specials in the Series 7 one. I hate the “The Specials” crap that they did with the DVDs. One of the major selling points of these sets are to have loads of bonus content, so hopefully they will be kept in neat Series.

    • Kenman

      March 9th, 2020 - 9:05pm

I didn’t hate the Specials concept too much…but I do agree that I hope (and believe) that they will include those in the appropriate sets. For Series 4, adding four extra episodes, Dreamland, and the Tenth Doctor guest spot on Sarah Jane Adventures (even if they eventually do SJA, I’d like this to happen) would be easily done, particularly when you consider how the newer series will require less discs than the average Classic Series set. Season 18 had 8 discs, 60s seasons are bound to have more. But if you look at the average New Series set, it was around 5-6 DVDs , including the Confidential Cut-downs. The specials could easily fill a single blu-ray disc.

The 50th Specials would really take up even less space. Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor and a few shorter mini-things like Night of the Doctor (likely to be included in the Wilderness Years too but it will definitely be double dipped with Day of the Doctor since it relates so heavily to that episode). Since both Day and Time carry on directly from Series 7 and and Name of the Doctor, it also makes perfect sense. Adventure in Time and Space may also be included here, as even if as a movie it requires it’s own disc, it still would be less discs than throwing it on with the Season 1 blu-ray, which will likely be at a minimum 8 discs (even if released without an animated Marco Polo, it will have a reconstruction of some kind with it’s own devoted disc), but there will likely be a 9th disc for Extras.

      March 12th, 2020 - 5:08pm

My main worry would be them putting the series 8 to 10 titles in sync with the music and fixing the white ring which just cuts out instead ir reaching the edge of the screen when the tardis appears

    • Anonymous

      March 12th, 2020 - 6:38pm

Class does have enough fans to warrant a release. They only need to make 1,000. Maybe wait for the 5 or 10 year anniversary tho.

Yea that is pretty neat. I have mp3s of those stories, but I do love how committed to archiving the show and it’s whole history they are. No show has this kind of love on physical media. As much as I loved the TNG blu-rays, they aren’t nearly as packed to the gills as these sets have been.

I completely agree. Absolutely pathetic (see my previous post when the release date was first announced. The danger of repeated delays is, will there be a market for physical product in 4-5 years at the rate these are being released?

    • Gordon

      February 27th, 2020 - 7:38am

Delays often have absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the sets themselves. Sometimes it’s down to changes the manufacturer’s schedules, sometimes it’s down to the distributors etc. etc. There can be loads of down-the-line reasons why dates need to change that simply can’t be accounted for months in advance. In this instance season 14 has probably been pushed back due to the issues of season 12. This has probably caused a backlog. It would be a big coincidence if it wasn’t

Typical BBC Studios as other people have said. Why not add 2-3 weeks to the “release date”. The animated releases haven’t been delayed so far.

      Not unexpected on previous form.

On balance, I’d rather they did 3 releases a year at 4 month intervals, than try for four at three.

Because they have repeatedly shown that it is almost impossible to keep to the schedule they’ve set. Only one (S10) or possibly two (S19?) have been released on the original release date.

Three releases should give them adequate time to create content, press and quality control the discs without the next release breathing down their neck.. It’s not like the sets will be left in warehouses or shops if the range takes an extra year or two to be complete.

And if they get a little ahead, then maybe surprise us with an extra release.

Probably down the muck up with the season 12 reissue. It’s probably caused a backlog. Bit of a coincidence that it gets pushed back 2 weeks just after word gets out about the season 12 reissue

No doubt you are correct that the delay of S12 has pushed back S14. It illustrates the tightness of the 3 month release gap. No release is independent of another.

A delay on one release affects all subsequent releases (and likely that other programmes). Delays the schedule timing is unable to recover.

Given the attempted 3 month release schedule that seemed to be set last year, delays in the releases of S23/S26 and S12r/S14 have the knock on effect of delaying post S14 by 2 months.

Looks like this one has sold out now!
That didn’t take long at all did it. All the others made it to release date before selling out. But this one has weeks ahead! Must be very popular.

Amazon have probably removed the listing temporarily (they sometimes do this during the “Pre-order period” but it will come on again). The newer sets seem to last till release date and beyond whereas Season 12 sold out as not released in as many numbers each time (2018 and 2020). If someone doesn’t want to pre-order they can probably still get it once released 🙂

Why do Amazon do this tactic like in the past make a pre ordered item currently unavailable then bring it back on a week or so later? Is it to create panic buying to ramp up sales?

Usually its because they have sold out of their 1st allocation, so they have to wait until they see how many more they can get (if any), its no different to any shop selling out of something then ordering more.

What are the episodes of the 60’s that can be in true HD?

Everyone. The old masters (which don’t exist) where shot on videotape (basically SD) but for overseas Use they made a16mm (basically HD) telerecordings (made by pointed a camera at a screen playing the episode to sell to international buyers). The old episodes only exist on those 16mm. They have tried (successfully) to convert them back to the look of videotape by using the VIDfire process which makes them look like videotape. Videotape had a higher frame rate per second than film. So technically. They have all the old episodes in 16mm from a recording of the original episode’s original video tape (in SD). And they then made the 16mm copies look like the Videotape copies for the DVD. So if you count a HD camera recording a screen playing SD content as It being in SD then they exist in HD. But the dvd masters are in SD

All this I know. I meant the episodes whose master was never a videotape but it was a film. And anyway if the film films a TV in SD, the image in the film will be in SD not in HD.

I’m sorry, but if you make an HD copy of a SD video tape you don’t magically have an HD copy of the source material. You are being pedantic to the point of completely misrepresenting the situation.

The episodes that still retain a native film copy are:

The Dalek Invasion of Earth 5
      The Wheel in Space 6
      The Dominators 3
      The Mind Robber 5
      The Krotons 1
      The Seeds of Death 5
      The Space Pirates 2

There are also two more 35mm film prints made but no longer exists. Those are
      The Daleks 4
The Power of the Daleks 6

I suppose you could still cull an actual HD image from the existing 16mm print for The Daleks 4 but I’m tugging at very weak strings.

The telerecording process involved filming off a sub-SD TV (by our standards). The information would have been lost at that point.

No videotape masters exist from the sixties. Therefore the resolution can’t be improved. And remember all of these up to Enemy of the World were recorded on 405 line tv. So there’s no point releasing these on Blu ray.

I said it’s an HD copy of an SD. It’s not true HD.

There is a handful of episodes that had film masters rather than video tape masters and some of them still exist (the seven episodes listed above).

Blu-Ray also allows for improved audio quality compared to DVD, even if the visuals couldn’t be improved (a Blu Ray copy will reduce upscaling issues a DVD playing would produce).

In your opinion, could the first season box set contain “an adventure in space and time”?

Not entirely implausible. But if they do have some sort of plan to someday include the New Series in The Collection (no idea if that is going to actually happen, though it should) then it could also fit in with all the other 50th stuff. Especially as the 60s have so many more episodes and will require more discs in general.

But if that material gets split up across other sets then that is fine too. I assume the Revisited docs will be on sets of respective Doctors. Five-ish Doctors can easily be on the Five Doctors. Night of the Doctor with the TV Movie.

Some people don’t really think. On reddit I am reading a lot of comments from people who suggest replacing Richard Hurndall with a CGI Hartnell or a David Bradley.

That would be a dreadful thing to do.
      Richard Hurndall was great.
He was also picked on by the other actors during filming of the Five Doctors. And he died shortly after, and didn’t even get to receive his payment for his appearance!
Editing him out of the show would be disrespectful, and foolish, and would ruin the whole thing.
I say leave it as it is.

They MUST leave it as it is. We are not talking about a question of costs as someone says, but of respect for the person he was and the courage that he had to accept such a challenging part despite the problems he had.

That’s silly! To some of us, bar the repeats of Unearthly Child and Three Doctors in 1981, by the time 1983 came around (no videos then!) Hurndall was just The First Doctor. It wasn’t until ages later we younger fans found out he really wasn’t! Hurndall was very good as the first, and his performance is charming. He’s an important part of Who-story, so I hope they never pull a stunt like that!!!

A deepfakes will appear on YouTube at some point in the future of that. No matter what. It’s free to use just takes a lot of time. No money. But it’s sad to think he was picked on. He did great!. Don’t know about the payment thing being true!
