Doctor Who The Chimes of Midnight Special Edition (sold out)
This special edition novelisation sold out in a matter of hours after they were made available for pre-order.
A standard edition is available to order from www.amazon.co.uk
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house not a creature was stirring…
But something must be stirring. Something hidden in the shadows. Something which kills the servants of an old Edwardian mansion in the most brutal and macabre manner possible. Exactly on the chiming of the hour, every hour, as the grandfather clock ticks on towards midnight.
Trapped and afraid, the Doctor and his companion, Charley, are forced to play detective to murders with no motive, where even the victims don’t stay dead. Time is running out.
And time itself might well be the killer…
WhatWhereWhy?
April 17th, 2025 - 11:49amThe blurb above is very disingenuous. Sold out after being made available to preorder. That’s just it, they WEREN’T made available to preorder! Not to us mere mortals!
Have you seen the shockingly poor covers of the standard editions?! Oh boy! I’ve used Hoovers that have sucked less!

April 16th, 2025 - 10:25pmI have found that the chances are that this limited edition will be on e bay later in the year as some of these customers after purchasing put it on e bay for higher prices
Timelord63
April 16th, 2025 - 6:58pmQuite pleased I managed to nab a copy of both whilst on holiday in Vegas.
WhoWhenWhere?
April 16th, 2025 - 7:45amBig Finish customer service has said the email alerts for this were staggered as their system couldn’t send to everyone on their mailing list simultaneously. That’s totally unfair when it’s for limited editions.
I’m another who got the email the day after they were sold out.
First we get the new app disaster & now this! God knows who’s making these decisions at the top.
They take our money up front & make us wait years for what we’ve paid for. As a business it stinks!
The Fishmonger
April 21st, 2025 - 10:59amThey should have given a lead time of at least a week and then released at a pre-specified time. And copies per customer should have been limited. To say their system couldn’t cope is ridiculous. Big Finish IT continues to drop the ball.
WhoWhenWhere?
April 22nd, 2025 - 5:54am@Fishmonger,
The woman at BF customer services said even she gets emails late. What hope is there for us?

April 15th, 2025 - 5:18pmDecided to cancel both my Orders for these BIG FINISH Novels over this debacle.
Missyrules
April 15th, 2025 - 7:14pmWhy? What debacle? If you managed to preorder them why cancel them?

April 16th, 2025 - 1:27pmI mean, that has to be the most stupid thing ever.

April 16th, 2025 - 8:24pmTAO
Missyrules
April 16th, 2025 - 9:50pmTAO as in Chinese philosophy!? Still doesn’t explain why you are cancelling
The Toymaker
April 15th, 2025 - 1:36amIncredibly frustrating that it’s such a low print run and most people outside the UK would likely have missed out because of the timing of it being announced. I don’t understand Big Finish’s strategies sometimes. Another example was the Once and Future series – sold out of the special editions by the time I had the money… so I didn’t bother. You’d think they’d want more sales?
The Monitor
April 15th, 2025 - 10:33amI missed out because I was queueing at Record Store Day for The Tenth Planet on Saturday morning.
I have never seen a Saturday BF new posting before. I hope they do a 2nd edition hardback 500 run.

April 19th, 2025 - 5:52amExplain how something not yet released can be sold out
Amypondfan
April 19th, 2025 - 9:48amSnake it is a limited edition preorder. Once the preorders are taken it is sold out
Nick
April 14th, 2025 - 7:17pmI quite agree; what is the point of sending out an advertisement for a product just to find out it’s sold out already when the link is clicked on. Very disappointed Big Finish… Hopefully as the books in this format and covers have proved so popular, that further copies will be on offer? Or perhaps even print on demand?
WhoWhenWhere?
April 14th, 2025 - 5:03pmI’m another who got the message after it had sold out. I was told by Big Finish that their system waits until there are so many before sending out an ad. Or something. I don’t understand it. You’d think after their last IT disaster they’d have more sense.

April 14th, 2025 - 4:14pmI’m a bit concerned by the big finish blurb on the announcement for this. Especially the “radical rethink” of the stories. I can’t say I was impressed by Shearman’s dalek novelisation so I might wait for a paperback of these.
Demdike@CultLabs
April 14th, 2025 - 8:08pmThese are being released by BBC books later in the year.
Amypondfan
April 14th, 2025 - 8:54pmI know they are, these are just exclusive versions that will be released at the same time (these aren’t out but are preorders) but I’d rather wait for the paperbacks if they do them. Like I say I wasn’t impressed by Shearman’s take on his dalek script so I don’t know that I’ll enjoy these and £22 each is too steep these days for books I’m unsure of
Matt
April 14th, 2025 - 3:13pmI had an app notification about it, within a couple hours I went to purchase both only to find that both had sold out. It would be nice if Big Finish could release another wave with prior warning this time
davidhhh
April 16th, 2025 - 4:40amThey gave you warning. You chose to ignore it until it was sold out. How is that their fault?
booboo
April 16th, 2025 - 6:51amthere was no advanced warning of these going on sale, not even a press release, not eveyone can order instantly
mick
April 14th, 2025 - 2:10pmI got an email about this book the day after it had sold out. Pretty pointless sending it really.
The Fishmonger
April 14th, 2025 - 5:28pmSame, Mick. Got the email at 7am Sunday morning after it sold out on Saturday. Nice work, Big Finish.

April 14th, 2025 - 11:11amThe special edition cover is awful – what’s tte fuss about ???
Radburn
April 14th, 2025 - 10:04amWell you can see why this Special Edition sold out – Have you seen what a crap cover is on the Standard Edition?
