Doctor Who DVD / Book: Regeneration – More Details

Doctor Who Regenerations box set

With thanks to BBC Worldwide…

Doctor Who Regeneration
Available from 24 June 2013

The Doctor Who Regeneration set is a beautifully packaged, limited edition coffee table book-styled collectors’ album including six DVDs and over 10 hours of Doctor Who footage.

The collection features each Doctor’s iconic regeneration episode; from the first Doctor played by William Hartnell, exhausted after battling the Cybermen to Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor suffering from radiation that had been unleashed by the Great One (a giant spider); and from the spectacular transformation of the Ninth Doctor to David Tennant’s emotional farewell as the Tenth.

The set is adorned with superb photography from across the era and features detailed and informative accounts of each regeneration. And if that wasn’t enough, new to DVD is The Tenth Planet featuring the Doctor’s first regeneration – beautifully restored with the missing fourth episode now brought to life with stunning animation.

regeneration-set-2

Utilising the original soundtrack, off-screen photographs and a short surviving sequence of the Doctor’s regeneration the episode has been now reconstructed in animated form, incorporating the restored version of the surviving sequence.

A full list of stories included on the DVD are:

· The Tenth Planet
· The War Games
· Planet of the Spiders
· Logopolis
· The Caves of Androzani
· Time and the Rani
· Doctor Who: The Movie
· Bad Wolf & The Parting of the Ways
· The End of Time

Redundant due to the events of The Night, Day and Time of the Doctor, which features the 8th, War and 11th Doctor’s Regenerations.

Is the Tenth Planet going to be released separately or will it only ever be available here? I mean, it’s a lovely set of stories, and presented really well, but for someone who already has half of the serials included, I’m just wondering whether the Tenth Planet won’t be out on its own?

      June 28th, 2013 - 9:42am

The whole corner was dented, and considering i payed over £40 for it i at least want it in a good condition before i acturly open it. Anyway, just got my new copy and it hasn’t got any faults which is good, but it’s number is 7855, compared to 2163! Massive difference!

    • auton101

      June 28th, 2013 - 6:51pm

Yeah i saw the review, the dent wasnt that bad, ive ordered mine and i should receive it tomorrow. Im looking forward to it.

      June 29th, 2013 - 9:37am

Still though i don’t want to pay £40 for something that’s already got it’s value knocked off before i even opened it!

    June 27th, 2013 - 3:00pm

GOT MINE! and from a HMV store (Cambridge) they had plenty, so i chose one with no dents, the main reason i wanted to get in in store, so i knew if it would be damaged! priced £49.99, worth the extra fiver or so. beautiful set, love it all. worth every penny! 🙂

Im looking forward to receiving mine, ive seen the first 3 parts of the tenth planet and i loved it, the cybermen are excellent and scary, their voices are creepy aswell. Plus i haven’t got round to getting any of the regeneration stories so this DVD set is right for me.

Does anybody think they’ll be making a second one, an updated, new version? Or is anybody not buying it, not because they already have the DVD episodes but because they think it’s pointless because Matt is leaving and it won’t be included. Thanks

      June 25th, 2013 - 11:04am

There isn’t any point as this is limited edition, making an updated one won’t make it limited edition. although it would be outdated in a few months time i suppose it doesnt really matter, smith might get his own limited edition book. with a early released DVD, this would make up for them announcing he was leaving after the product was due to come out.

I had that with my ‘Dalek War’ boxset, the box was dented, creased, ripped, and the ‘Planet Of The Daleks’ case was slightly bent and hard to close. The discs, however, we’re fine.

      June 23rd, 2013 - 10:36am

Mine arrived fine. Get back in touch with the BBC Shop and ask if you can be sent a replacement; it just means thry will ask you to send your damaged one back. Worth trying if you are not happy.

Same here! I contacted them and they said the following:

      Dear Jake Young,

Thank you for your recent email regarding the BBC Shop.

I have checked your order details and the offer of the gift was subject to availability.

Unfortunately as the free gift is subject to availability and we are no longer able to source further stock therefore this has not been sent to you.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this may cause you.

      Kind Regards

    • drjakeyoung

      June 21st, 2013 - 6:29pm

I emailed them last week asking will i defiantly get it and they said YES.

So i just emailed them back the following:

I understand the offer was subject to availability.

However, I recently emailed you asking if I would be getting the extras and your reply (below)clearly constitutes a contract to supply the poster.

      Dear Jake Young,

Thank you for your email regarding BBC Shop.

The poster will arrive with your order.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

      Kind Regards

I have spent literaly over £10,000 on doctor who merchandise over the years. I dont want to take up the case with OFT if possible.

So seeing as they entered into a contract promising me i would get it, so i cant see how they will get out of this one!

I think they might have screwed up on all the orders.

drjakeyoung – You might get the poster today, as the regenerations box arrived here on Friday and the poster arrived today (24/06/13)in a large tube. So you still might get one.

    • drjakeyoung

      June 24th, 2013 - 1:22pm

LOL I forgot to say that it acturly turned up on Saturday! It’s massive and i can see why it came separately!

    • DiavoloFelice

      June 24th, 2013 - 2:46pm

I have to admit I was expecting it to be folded up down to A4 size and in the box with the dvd, but then I ordered this before the poster offer, so surprised I got a poster lol

Anything thats free and a blue box is all good 🙂

I do like the idea of this, and I will probably get it, but as a celebration of 50 years it’s a real shame that Colin Baker doesn’t feature other than the beginning of Time and Rani and end of Caves of Androzani – just makes it feel incomplete – though obviously there’s not a full regeneration story for him.
