Doctor Who Magazine Special Print The Legend
Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com and www.panini.co.uk
This lavish, 116-page bookazine from the makers of Doctor Who Magazine is the essential guide to novelisations – hardback, paperback and audio adaptations of television stories.
Highlights include profiles of leading authors, a section on collecting rarities, a look at the recording of the audiobooks and a tribute to illustrator Chris Achilléos. Exclusives include a previously unpublished extract from The Enemy of the World, the book that legendary Doctor Who writer David Whitaker was working on before his death in 1980.
“The first of these books was published in 1964, and there have been 223 to date,” says editor Marcus Hearn. “This special issue includes details on every single one, with cover illustrations, information about reprints, foreign-language editions and much more.”
Each issue of Print the Legend comes with a free CD audiobook, randomly selected from the BBC Audiobooks Doctor Who range.
Unhappy Whoover
June 19th, 2024 - 4:53pmThe order arrived from Panini, but the magazine was damaged, so I had to return the whole pack for a replacement. The CD set was fine.
The replacement arrived and this time the magazine was fine, but the CD cover was cracked and the CDs were all swimming around loose inside.
Thanks a lot, Panini!

June 17th, 2024 - 4:11pmive ordered a copy from panini and paid for express delivery not had a dispatch email yet so rung them to be told they dont know when its getting sent out. it says on their site if you order before 11am it gets sent out the same day.
Darren
June 17th, 2024 - 10:14pmI suggest trying to find it in a store.
My local Sainsbury’s had them in stock, once you’ve got one cancel the order, it’s expensive enough without paying for express delivery.

June 18th, 2024 - 9:29pmIt arrived today. I got the power of kroll in mine

June 17th, 2024 - 3:15pmI seen this in forbidden planet today they had a bar code over the price which put me right off it….how much is it anyway?

June 17th, 2024 - 10:21amStill not received my copy from Panini. Getting ridiculous now – I could have bought it several times over from other high street and online retailers.
Mr Greel
June 17th, 2024 - 2:24pmStill not received mine either. Despatch email received on 06/06 so allegedly sent that day.
I normally order the bookazines from Forbidden Planet but due to their changes with postage charges decided to order from Panini. Will be ordering from FP again in future
Alan Silvester
June 19th, 2024 - 10:41amStill not received mine, Mr Greel – but finally had an email reply from Panini saying it was dispatched on 6th June and is assumed “lost in the post”. They’ve asked me to confirm my address and then a replacement will be sent! Watch this space! Did you receive your order?
Mr Greel
June 19th, 2024 - 5:46pmStil not received. Chase email sent to Panini on Monday but no reply yet.

June 20th, 2024 - 8:07amI’ve not had mine either two weeks after receiving the dispatch email. I’ve emailed Panini 3 times and they’ve said they’d send another copy and I’d get a confirmation email when it’s processed but still not had anything from them.
Alan Silvester
June 20th, 2024 - 9:33amI’m obviously not the only one having order receipt problems! Seems as though the orders allegedly dispatched on the 6th June have all disappeared into a postal black hole somewhere. Like you, Ste, the promise of a replacement order has still not been followed-up with a confirmation dispatch email – Panini really are hopeless. I shall be reqesting a refund via PayPal if nothing has arrived by Saturday, and will not be ordering again from Panini.

June 16th, 2024 - 12:15pmWonderful mqgazine. Underworld cd with my copy.. and the jeopady of thinking of buying another copy as the CD case leaves a nice impression on the magazine cover. Guaranteed to not be good condition sigh.

June 16th, 2024 - 9:22pmOooo – so there are more stories than shown on the bag…..
So on the one hand I’m tempted to double dip – but if it means there could be a lot of nu-who in there I’m put off as I’m after classic who target novelisations.
I got Frontios – and the shop has 2 other on their shelf

June 18th, 2024 - 11:58amAnyway you can see through the packaging by shining a light from your phone?

June 16th, 2024 - 9:41amI wonder if it was in a clear bag where you saw which CD it was whether sales would be greater as some people would purchase multiple copies to get multiple stories, or if sales would be more sluggish with some shelf warming as people shopping around for the stories they want?
Not that shopping around is easy, none in Smiths yet 3 in a corner newsagent?!
I wish I knew if what was in the other 2.

June 15th, 2024 - 5:45pmUnfortunately I got some awful Capaldi audio book with mine. Might buy another for the sheer jepody of it !!!!

June 15th, 2024 - 2:12pmHaving been to four WHS to no avail. I finally got a copy for myself and another Whovian from FP today. It seemed they had only just received them and given their bulk, had nowhere to put them.
Again I reckon many WHS branches will lag to next Thursday.
Those that manage to get them in supermarkets, I find staggeringly as all the super-sized supermarkets that did in my area have all drastically reduced their magazine display areas to about one third of what it was.

June 15th, 2024 - 1:16pmHas anyone else not received their copy yet? I pre-ordered it and had a dispatch confirmation from Panani but still haven’t received it. I’ve emailed them but they’ve told me to wait for it to arrive. Usually their magazines are delivered within 2/3 days. Really frustrating as I’ve seen it in Sainsbury’s and not bothered picking up a copy as I’ve apparently got one coming in the post

June 15th, 2024 - 4:53pmI ordered it from Panini and received it within a few days. Arrived in a large box envelope due to the CD

June 15th, 2024 - 7:55pmI try and pre-order mine (as with the Chronicles) and they seem to arrive regularly on the Saturday after the release day.

June 13th, 2024 - 5:23pmHas any other subscriber not received theirs yet. Usually 1 week late is more common but this will now go beyond that. Thanks.
The Monitor
June 13th, 2024 - 5:48pmI have been confused a little by the term special. Some are calling it special, some a bookazine which explains why not received as subscription and not in WHS as they get bookazines two weeks late. Fewer shops are selling them, so the chase covers greater distances.

June 13th, 2024 - 6:38pmSaw this in whsmith today. Multiple copies

June 14th, 2024 - 5:15pmBeen to three WHS on south coast and two Tescos. Nothing. It seems my area WHS branches get bookazines two weeks late

June 14th, 2024 - 10:07pmThe Monitor – No, I’ve not received mine either. I had a dispatch e-mail from Panini on the 6th June and I sent a chaser e-mail to them this morning. Predictably, no reply. Hoping it turns up tomorrow or Monday.

June 8th, 2024 - 3:00pmA very well put together special. But I wish the amazing artwork had been on the cover as well as the bag it comes in.

June 8th, 2024 - 2:39pmI got mine too today…Enlightenment CD in nice case. The mag looks comprehensive. A good purchase

June 8th, 2024 - 1:10pmReceived my copy this morning and was surprised to receive 4-cd copy of ‘’The Witchfinders’ in a CD jewel case. Presumed the audio cd would come in a cheap cardboard sleeve. Bookazine is also very nice, though i’ve only had a quick browse through so far.

June 15th, 2024 - 4:55pmYes I was surprised at this too? I received Curse of Fenric which was in a large double case

June 5th, 2024 - 9:15pmTHIS BOOKAZINE. IS IT GOING TO BE A SERIES REGARDING THE SUBJECT MATTER OR IS THIS THE ONE BOOKAZINE ONLY.
Daniel Seymour
June 7th, 2024 - 1:41pmUnless we get another 100 or so Target novels released over the next year (unlikley) this is the only one. It seems to have replaced the slot for the Chronicles release this quarter. Have the Chronicles now ended?

May 31st, 2024 - 7:04pmI think you can subscribe to the Doctor who bookazines through different websites

June 15th, 2024 - 11:31am@Mark Lightfoot – You can’t subscribe to the bookazones.

May 28th, 2024 - 8:02amI wonder if there will be a downloadable audiobook for the digital edition.
Daniel Seymour
May 30th, 2024 - 8:28amIts a possibility, perhaps linked in with Audible. I wondered this as well as I get my mags digitally. Being picky, some of those free audiobooks shown are technically not novelisations. Not to worry as I already have all the audio Targets released so far, and wonderful they are too.
David Goldberg
June 15th, 2024 - 11:32am@Robert Sienicki – There’s no download code with the digital edition.

May 24th, 2024 - 1:53pmGlad they’ve included my four favourite Doctors on the cover, Patrick Troughton, David Tennant, Eric Idle and Paul Jones as Uncle Jack.

May 24th, 2024 - 1:55pmThat made me chuckle Dave, i thought i was the only one who remembered Paul Jones as Uncle Jack !

May 24th, 2024 - 4:53pmThis comment made me think of that wonderful letter in the early days of DWM when the correspondent said they didn’t like the second cover illustration for The Three Doctors Target novel as Jon Pertwee looked too old, Patrick Troughton looked too bad and William Hartnell looked too Welsh!

May 24th, 2024 - 5:53pmShaun I still chuckle at that!

May 24th, 2024 - 11:02amDoes anyone know if this special is included with the DWM subscription?

May 24th, 2024 - 10:56amHaving just got,a few weeks ago,The Fabulous legend that is TOM BAKER special Edition, This is hot on its heels, so I assume, this is The bookazine issue that we subscribers have to buy separately?
This sounds very much like a 116 page version of the Free to download BASED ON THE POPULAR BBC TELEVISION SERIAL by Paul MC Smith ,which is Gorgeous. So this I imagine will be awesome.
