October 12th, 2025 - 4:26pmAgree with the other comments about the cover being subpar, and the previous issue’s Thirteenth Doctor cover being designed by Lee Binding makes it stick out even more. Surely they could have come up with something more striking. I used to collect DWM religiously from 2011 to 2015, and again in 2022/23, picking up issues occasionally in between and at the moment. I was impressed with the Jodie interview in the last issue, but the Series 2 Production Notes were honestly the only thing that made me pick up this one. I’m very curious as to what other interviews and features are being lined up to fill upcoming issues, can’t be an easy feat trying to keep the magazine sales steady until TWBTLATS finally comes out.

October 12th, 2025 - 8:05pmAccording to the ‘coming soon’ page the next issue will feature an in depth interview with Carole Ann Ford.

October 11th, 2025 - 6:30pmI really don’t understand why they chose this to be the cover art for the magazine, because this really doesn’t say anything about the articles inside. It is supposed to be a representation of Jubilee, right? Why use that photo of the stock 2005 Dalek? Why not use a photo of the damaged one from that same story? Or a classic Dalek? Or one of the renders from The Prydonian who is working on the Big Finish covers? Or better yet, why even focus on that aspect of the magazine and make a cover devoted to the work of Christopher H Bidmead? There is a ton of variety that they could have used for the cover, using elements from his work. Why didn’t they use that rather than this stock Dalek image in a stock background photo?
James
October 11th, 2025 - 6:46pmAgreed they could have created a really nice cover of art celebrating Christopher’s work in the who universe rather than just a stock image of a 2005 Dalek

October 12th, 2025 - 12:39pmAgreed cover is rubbish. A boring bronze dalek. Also I decided to stop last issue, as the comic strip finished and so did the two part fact of fiction so reached a natural end for me. Justifed as this months FoF is my worst story ever, and the continuing ignornance of 13th Doctor stories for the FoF.

October 13th, 2025 - 10:22amI’m amazed that some of you find the front cover naff – I think it’s stunning. Look at the lighting and framing alone – it would make a lovely poster.

October 13th, 2025 - 10:55amit is a good cover with the best version of the daleks bronze

October 13th, 2025 - 5:19pmYes I have to Agree with you Guys, it is A Lovely Cover as I already said below.

October 10th, 2025 - 7:25pmIt’s mostly a great issue, but the interview with Robert Shearman is actually really poor on the part of the interviewer. Shearman is great, but the interviewer is not. Doctor Who Magazine is so desperate to maintain that the show is fine and everything is wonderful, that the writer attacks Shearman’s comments multiple times when he says he feels like the show is currently dead, saying things like, “Maybe he’s being needlessly pessimistic”, and “The BBC maintains that it’s committed to the show.” The magazine has had its head buried in the sand since the season 2 finale, and simply won’t let another opinion exist within its pages, even though Shearman is basically saying what most of the fanbase is thinking. It’s incredibly out of touch.
Brilliant articles otherwise!
James
October 10th, 2025 - 8:01pmIt feels like the magazine is running out of ideas and stuff to write on as well as the price tag it isn’t justified purchasing it in my opinion
NickD
October 10th, 2025 - 9:49pmIt is the “official” magazine which means that they have to toe the official party line of the BBC
The Unlicensed Physician
October 11th, 2025 - 12:55amDidn’t they do a similar thing back in ’89? Plus ça change and all that.
Peter
October 11th, 2025 - 12:24pmIn all fairness Chris H, the writer of the Rob Shearman interview does say words to the effect of “we are the official mag, so have to tow the party line”. I wouldn’t say that’s ‘attacking’ Rob Shearman. At least they included Rob’s words/criticisms/theories (however you want to classify them): DWM could just have omitted his words if they’d really wanted to.
Anyway, I thought this was a really good issue (I noticed a few typos, which I normally don’t) and it was read cover to cover.

October 11th, 2025 - 12:43pmIs rob shearman somebody of note? He wrote one TV story 20 years ago. His big finish tales are massively overrated. He is entitled to his opinion and frankly I don’t like the rtd 2 era but the magazine has to remain positive or it will simply have its licence revoked

October 11th, 2025 - 2:35pmI always think of Bobby Sherman…..
(Who Marge Simpson had a crush on…..)
The TV story Dalek was brilliant……but the book was terrible…..!

October 11th, 2025 - 5:51pmJames
the magazine is running out of ideas, they need to cut back on the specials until there is some thing new to put in them (if there ever is any) back in the 90s there was only 1 maybe 1 and a half new episodes but the magazine was ok for the most part and there was only a few special editions and there wasn’t any after 1996 until 2002

October 11th, 2025 - 7:18pmHave to agree with you there Douglas, the book was a huge letdown.

October 10th, 2025 - 3:50pmAlright, yep I’m gonna sound complainy, maybe just for the sake of it ahaha.
But the cover really just screams of the show not being able to move on from its “golden years” (pardon the pun). The show should be pushing, new, new, new. Or at the very least, something new in the old (like the blu-ray sets/colourisations etc)
This is just a low effort re-use of 2005 publicity shots just for nostalgia.
Lends into an even wider issue of why we never get anything new Dalek wise.
Stale, stale, stale.
I do love the show, honest XD
The Fishmonger
October 10th, 2025 - 4:40pmI know what you mean but whenever the magazines editor tries anything different, people just complain. So they can’t win really.
Demdike@CultLabs
October 10th, 2025 - 5:15pm“The show should be pushing, new, new, new. Or at the very least, something new in the old (like the blu-ray sets/colourisations etc)”
You mean something new like Robert Shearman discussing his new novels, Sophie Aldred talking about her forthcoming audio stories, Carole Ann Ford and Katy Manning telling us about their stories for a forthcoming anthology… that kind of thing? What about the massive 12 page feature on the season 13 Blu-ray box set they did recently?
Oh wait.
NickD
October 10th, 2025 - 9:47pmYou can love it and be critical as well and objective. If you just slavishly love it that’s not love it’s crazy.
Peter
October 11th, 2025 - 12:27pmConversely though NickD, there are those who use that mindset to slavishly just pour hatred on everything/anything (“I’m not being hateful, I’m just being objectively critical. Silly not to be!” etc).
Alex
October 12th, 2025 - 3:17pmThe magazine has gone stale just like the show unfortunately
Snowman
October 10th, 2025 - 3:41pmReally Great Cover. Worth getting for that Alone.

October 10th, 2025 - 2:55pmRather liked the article about the BBC Audiobooks and very happy to see there are plans to do the Virgin New Adventures and Missing Adventures. Never been that bothered by the target ones but the Virgin books I will buy every single one
Peter
October 11th, 2025 - 12:31pmI was surprised and delighted (to quote JNT, ha) to read this statement in DWM – I’m champing at the bit for more audiobooks of NAs and MAs (love those for Human Nature, Shakedown and especially Scales of Injustice, which I always find a great listen). I honestly thought no more would be forthcoming after years of inactivity on that front. Hopefully sooner rather than later. 🙂
Whofan44
October 11th, 2025 - 2:20pmI think the only reason those other 3 were done was cos they were reprinted for various ranges. It actually sounds like the producer wants to do pretty much any book and short story that does not yet have an audiobook. I love that. If they do the Decalog books tho I will be so happy.

October 10th, 2025 - 12:43pmAlso a shame my copy arrived with audios poster almost completely ripped down the centre seam!
not RTD
October 10th, 2025 - 11:05amits a better magazine then last month the supplement is ok i thought it would be just a reprint of the PRODUCTION NOTES but there is a bit more in there the poster is big you would need a hell of a wall to put it up on i do miss the art cards that use to come with the magazine they were more manageable to find room for …but overall not bad 7 out of 10
James
October 10th, 2025 - 11:25amShame they keep using paper and plastic packaging. Like to keep them prestige but having to rip open annoys me
not RTD
October 10th, 2025 - 11:50ami prefer the plastic packaging it is easy but either way i can usually open them slowly with a knife like opening an envelope it usually works ok i keep the bag in the mag
