    So the editor is leaving.

Thanks for the last few years. It must have been hell having to fill a magazine during COVID, having a showrunner that massively reduced contact to the magazine and a lack of new episodes.

    Thanks again

finally got a copy today from my local tescos. Please a break from david covers now unless he’s interviewed twice now i feel like him being on the cover is cash cowing and false advertising as they don’t even speak to him.

he’s the current Doctor in the 60th Anniversary year and arguably the most popular Doctor of the 21st century, of course they’re going to use him on the covers

Finally found one today, but prepare yourself if you haven’t. I’ve never been so appalled by people’s taste as I am looking at this Capaldi story ranking! Shame about the lack of poster. I’d have loved one based on World Enough and Time.

Rather they did away with the “free” extras. Just set at 1 price and extras can be sent away fir if you want them.

Still no sign of it in Hull or East Riding five days on? Have tried contacting Doctor Who magazine who have told me to contact Panini. Tried contacting Panini. Can not speak to anyone as it goes straight to a recorded message telling you to email them. Have emailed them and just get a message back telling me to contact Dr Who subs who of course have nothing to do with the sales and distribution of the magazine? It really is getting beyond a joke now! Am loath to buy it online as that will be an extra cost on top of an already price increases magazine!

It appears to be very random – if an area has the magazine. The local WH Smiths here has just put out one of the specials from weeks back BUT not the regular issue.

As the specials has always confused the local shop as they always think its the regular issue.

With big changes happening behind the scenes i forsee one of two things happening. It will either be cancelled outright. OR start again from issue one.

So you saying BBC Studios or Panini are making big changes ?

Or you saying you hate the magazine ?

Or you saying the BBC Survey was part of the next phase ?

Why would they start from Issue One again ?

The only way it would get cancelled would be lack of sales or loss of licence

So you on the phone to RTD every day I take it ?

What big changes other than a change of editor as Marcus Hearn is leaving , although he’s still editing the magazine special editions like the bookazines and quarterly specials such as the recent action figures one.

Magazines change editors every so often, it’s in their evolution. DWM has had loads over the years.

I spoke to a member of staff in my local Wh smiths, he said that menizes have stopped delivering certain magazines completely to stores. He believes that Doctor Who magazine might be one of them, so everyone might have to buy them online instead.

There are 2 news suppliers in the UK for stores. They do remove titles from store allocations normally on run up to Christmas to make space for more Xmas titles and titles that sell more around this time (craft, cards, food). Odd as its to soon for this as normally October/November time.
And some remove titles from stores range if not selling enough.
See if your local whs does a Mos service (magazine ordering service). Can set up a folder normally kept behind the till area, put a deposit down to cover just incase you can’t collect in time, and a copy can be put aside specially for you.

    • Timelord63

      August 19th, 2023 - 9:40am

What? That’s an utter joke and pretty disgusting if that’s the case? Magazine has already gone up in price so if we have to order it online there’s postage on top of that which makes getting the May pretty expensive? And what gives Menzies the right to not deliver magazines?

    • James

      August 19th, 2023 - 10:58am

Timelord63: suppliers regularly look at standing orders for thr stores they supply. Add and remove titles if they don’t think sell well or other stores see uplift, redirect the stock to those stores. As I say around Xmas time alot more of this happens to make way for other titles.
Suggest if you shop at a WHS see if your store offers MOS. Then you will have a reserved copy.

Magazines in general are very expensive. Not a problem exclusive to DWM. Less people are buying them. If the page count, colour pages or comic strip were cut to keep the price down, people would still complain!

How much do people think the 60th anniversary issue or number 600 will cost?

Of all of the magazines I buy this would be the last one I would stop and it will be a sad day if it ever ceased publication. Let’s cherish it while we still have it.

I believe its the lighting. Plus, even the chrome edition sonic isnt gonna be a 100% replica of the actual screwdriver. It serves its purpose though, it makes the screwdriver fell metal and heavier.

  • pupbenny

    August 15th, 2023 - 6:44pm

Interesting that the sonic (at least pictured here) seems to resemble the matte finish of the standard retail release rather than the chrome Character Exclusive one. I thought it would’ve actually been shiny, which makes me wonder what the point of the chrome version was.
