Really looking forward to seeing him play the Doctor but I hope his amazing looks aren’t going to be played on too much, companions falling for the Doctor gets very boring very quickly.

The subscribers issue cover uses a slightly different shot where he is more in center of the frame and his arms are by his side.

Picked up my copy today. Jim Dale and Dirk Bogarde make guest characters in the comic strip along with the mechanoids. Lots of 60s film articles. Even mention of Tennent and Tate returning.

Do we know if there are plans for another collected graphic novel of the comic strips? There must be enough for a new one by now.

Looking forward to this. Tons of Dalek movie goodness. Love ’em or loathe ’em, you can’t deny how huge a part they played in the success of the Daleks during the 1960’s. Me? I love ’em.

Looking forward to the “brand-new comic strip adventure for Dr Who and his granddaughter, Susan”. Judging by the cover image of Cushing seems it might look good.
Presumably permission would have to be sought from Studio Canal and/or Cushing’s Estate – can’t see Panini wanting to pay much for a separate licence so assuming it didn’t cost much hopefully might lead the way for Eaglemoss to pay and produce a Cushing Doctor for the Figurine Collection? (Unless permission has been given for the strip to promote the new Blu Rays and not cost anything – (not too sure how these copyright issues work).

I think Eaglemoss is the only way forward to “Cushing Films” merchandise now and i really hope it can happen.

There is a limit on what they could do but i would certainly be in for it all.

Not really, being gay has nothing to do with it. Gatwa has never commented on his sexuality as he doesn’t need to. Yes, he has played a gay character but surely you can seperate fact and fiction? I think maybe people are assuming that just because he has a slight ‘camp’ personality, that he is automatically gay. Assumptions like this shouldn’t happen. He might very well be gay, but that shouldn’t matter one bit.

      May 23rd, 2022 - 12:53pm

To be fair, he is quite hot in that picture.

If it gets people excited about a hot Doctor then why not?

    • Alan

      May 23rd, 2022 - 2:33pm

Because this is a children’s show, Rory.

How very dare you, I’m a grown-up.There have been some gay themes in previous stories. We’ve a good while to wait yet to see exactly what the new Doctor’s costume might be, but yes he does look rather buff Rory.

    • Nick

      May 23rd, 2022 - 9:09pm

And? So what if it does look like a Gay Times cover? There’s a wide market for Dr Who nowadays and its fabulous that people can be more open. I do not want to return to the eighties when the word Gay made people feel ashamed.

      May 24th, 2022 - 12:10am

Anon: I’m pretty sure he’s just referring to the look and the pose. (Those mags don’t always exclusively feature gay people on the covers – unless people like Victoria Beckham are going to have a shock surprise from hubby soon…)

The “…is the Doctor” cover tends to come after they’ve become the Doctor on screen.

      May 23rd, 2022 - 6:26pm

Just to clarify, since the New Series started each new Doctor after Eccleston has only had the traditional ‘…is the Doctor’ cover *after* the regeneration. For David Tennant he didn’t get to have an intro cover before that as the obvious focus was on the Ecclestone series being on TV. Once Parting of the Ways had been broadcast, Tennant then got his ‘…is the Doctor’ cover.

Smith, Capaldi and Whittaker all had intro covers followed by ‘…is the Doctor’ once they appeared on screen. Seems like they’re sticking to that tradition with Gatwa.

Nah, they had to do Ncuti cover as he was revealed as the next Doctor. Tennant and Tate will probably be on the next cover, because there is still some time before marketing for Centenery kicks in.

    • Rex Farrel

      May 22nd, 2022 - 3:42pm

The poor guy’s already had his (very understated) announcement overshadowed by the return of Tennant and Tate – it would have been a real kick in the teeth for DWM to do the same. But at least the return of Rusty makes it look like DWM might get some decent production coverage again.

    • Fox

      May 22nd, 2022 - 7:23pm

I don’t think it’s been overshadowed at all. There was more buzz for Ncuti’s announcement than Tennant and Tate returning. The former has 3.5x the likes on Twitter and was front page news.

    • Rex Farrel

      May 24th, 2022 - 12:31am

I hope you’re right, Fox. The announcement was comparatively low key and around the Internet the usual places quickly moved on to Tennant and co. almost exclusively. Presumably when 10 has finished filming and Ncuti is costumed and out and about it’ll swing back the other way, but to be old news in under a week at least looked a bit mean.

Just had a wonderful sunday morning chatting to sylvester mccoyand the really lovely sophie aldred. I did mention the tegan and ace reveal and what they thought of tcuti and yasmine. She told me some personal things which i cannot divulge but she thinks going forward it willj be phenomenal. Sylvester wasnt as forthcoming when i speculated what might happen for the 60th. Best sunday ive had in a long time. Both wonderful people . Got some eight photos and signatures.

No. Coleman just got back after listening q and a sessions at the elsecar heritage with sophie and sylv. Centre. It was heaving. Got advance tickets at the eleventh hour to get to front of qieue and just as well as the queue was a mile long. People in cosplay. Loads of people in star wars outfits with chewbacca and krsanntan, sandpeople and storm troopers etc.. Its my first con and only really went because i missed the sheffield one. Cosplay comps, wrestling allsorts. Glad i went. But it was costly with photos and signings.

Yes, Comic cons are all over the place now. When I googled Local Comic Cons for today, Two came up. One at Elsecar and the other was the Horror con UK at the Magna Centre, Rotherham. That was just for today.
I thought it was that one you had been too at First.

I wouldnt have even known if an old mate hadnt seen and got advance tickets. His girlfriend couldn,t go so phoned us and i thought why not? I was a little apprehensive and nervous about what i might say but it was very informal(I expected heavy security) and you could approach them easily at their separate tables and they were very pleasant and mostly accommodating especially Sophie. The Photos were £20 and the personalised autographs £10. I only took £60, so that went there. loads of Ace laminated cards and the same for Sylvesters. I had to ask one of the girls if i could borrow 1 of sylvesters cards which had all the monsters from his seasons for sophie to sign, as Sylv had already kindly signed a Curse of Fenric card for me with Haemovores and Nicholas parsons etc..but he had no problem with that. Talking about the new series though i forgot to ask about their favourite stories and scenes. Overall though best £60 ive spent in a long while. It was a double whammy getting them both together.

Not really. In the slightest. I’m gay. Any exposed chest is not a problem for me. Just thought that Doctor who magazine would be the ones to have a better picture of him rather than the same old one that’s being used everywhere. But like I’ve been told, there are probably very few hi res images that exist this soon of him. Love the accusations oozing from you though
