All is not well at the Wenley Moor underground atomic research station: there are unaccountable losses of power-output; nervous breakdowns amongst the staff; and then—a death!

GERRY DAVIS Illustrated by Alan Willow

One by one, their limbs became diseased—they were replaced by plastic and steel! Little by little, their brains tired—computers worked just as well! With metal limbs, they had the strength of ten men. They could live in the airless vacuum of space. They had no heart, no feelings, no emotions, and only one goal – power! In the year 2070, a small blue planet caught their attention. They would land on its satellite and, from there, attack, ransack, destroy and finally abandon…
THE SATELLITE WAS THE MOON THE HELPLESS PLANET—EARTH THEIR NAMES? THE CYBERMEN! Can the Doctor defeat an enemy whose threat is almost as great as that of the mighty Daleks?

Does these new editions are matching the latest target books like “Rose” and “Day of the Doctor”? I am asking spine wise. I can’t find any photos around.

Not exactly-there is a picture of each Doctor at the top of the spine, and the title is written in the same font as the lettering on the front, rather than using the logo as the new series books do. In a further change, the title and Doctor Who are written as one, i.e. Doctor Who and the Daleks in one line rather than Doctor Who,,, and then Rose further down the spine. Hope this helps.

Hope they also release The Claws of Axos, Revenge of the Cybermen, The Doomsday Weapon etc all with the classic Chris Archillios artwork. They were amazing covers and made me excited as a kid every saturday when my mum would buy one for me. Well done BBC for re-releasing these!

Great stuff, because I love the Target novels. All in All its a great thing that the stories of this Television series can be enjoyed in a different format 😛
I personally have read Novel of The Awakening, which was one of the early stories of Peter Davison’s final Season. It was novellised by the stories writer. After finnishing that, the next story I moved onto was none other than Gary Russels “Business Unusual” which is an absolute must have, because its the future of The Doctors life, at a point where he meets Mel for the first…

I remember reading The Cybermen & The Doomsday Weapon as a child. I found them truly engaging. Back then we only had The Five Doctors on blank video for years & nothing else. Katy Manning autographed the Doomsday one in 2001 😀 , & I reread it last year. I’ve been thinking of reading my Death To The Daleks one.

These are some of the very earliest titles published in the original print run.

Well worth picking up if you have never read them before. They are very detailed novels and really bring the stories to life. The later Target novels where more of quick read (although dependant on author sometimes).

I agree that the more recent series stories should be published, but with this and the audio’s based on the Target novels being included in the CO Pandorica wave, perhaps we may be in for a surprise, who knows.
