What links Stingray to Space: 1999? Which superstar director had a hand in *batteries not included? Who was Pierre Boulle and how did he spawn one of Hollywood’s greatest franchises? All the answers, and much more, are revealed in Sci-Fi Chronicles.
From Barbarella to Blade Runner, this comprehensive guide to science fiction explores the creation and evolution of the genre’s greatest creations, detailing their complex real-world and in-world development through an arresting blend of incisive commentary and stunning archive imagery.
Arranged alphabetically, each entry examines the myriad expressions of a much-loved sci-fi title — from book to movie to television series, and beyond. Expert writers offer entertaining overviews, and colour-coded infographic timelines provide an at-a-glance guide to landmark publication, release and broadcast dates.
For key franchises — such as Doctor Who and The War of the Worlds — lavish photo-spreads reveal how they have evolved from their black-and-white beginnings to today’s big-budget blockbusters. And seminal, genre-defining sagas, like Star Wars and Star Trek, are accompanied by fascinating chronologies of how each work fits into the series’ fictional universe.
International in scope and encylopedic in scale, Sci-Fi Chronicles is an essential work for any true science fiction fan.

Trenzalore
May 6th, 2014 - 6:13pmNot as good as the 80’s one but I still wish we actually got to see that in the episode.
Radburn
May 4th, 2014 - 5:02pmJust noticed Cecelia Aherne’s ‘Time Trips: The Bog Warrior’ is available – It seem’s the complete ‘Time Trips Collection’ has been put back to 3rd Mar 2015 according to Amazon UK…

Doctor 2011
May 3rd, 2014 - 10:55amIn engines of war I hope the master is in it
Anonymous
May 3rd, 2014 - 10:59amErm… I don’t think he is and I think you should watch Utopia, The Sound of Drums and Last of the Timelord again because he reveals why he weren’t in the War
MasterKasterborous
May 3rd, 2014 - 2:37pmBut he was there in the early days and at the very end he went back there.
McGann is the Doctor
May 2nd, 2014 - 10:53amEngines of War better be half as good as I am expecting it to be (my expectations are very high)!
the astronaut of death
May 1st, 2014 - 8:25pmEngines of war looks amazing I am so getting it.
Is George Mann a good writer

DalekAgent
May 1st, 2014 - 5:57pmOn the Engines Of War book, if you look closely at the dalek on the left side of the doctor (or should I say the war doctor), it looks like a new special weapons dalek
DOCTOR WHO ONE
May 1st, 2014 - 6:43pmYeah, clearly Photoshop.
I’m not keen on it. Don’t get me wrong thou, I’m not against the idea of a modern Special Weapons Gunner Dalek, but it could have at least looked like something that was designed rather then just something that clearly shouts “PHOTOSHOP !!” right at your face when you look at the cover.
DalekAgent
May 1st, 2014 - 6:53pmI don’t think the eyestalk suits it
MaxP
May 2nd, 2014 - 12:40amThey should do more stuff like that with the Daleks, make them have different abilities and looks. Maybe some could have Dr Octopus like arms or something. Various add on weapons, just make them more interesting. I’ve never actually believed that a race with just a plunger for an arm could ever actually get anywhere!
jamie
May 1st, 2014 - 5:38pmvery pleased to see a War Doctor book!
Radburn
May 1st, 2014 - 5:36pmI get the feeling that ‘Engines Of War’ will sell loads of copies – I’m sure the Capaldi 1st. Annual will do good business as well…
Trenzalore
May 1st, 2014 - 3:50pmEngines of war looks absolutely fantastic. Although I hope if they are going to release more war doctor books, they aren’t all going to be about war (sounds a little silly considering he’s the war doctor but it will get really repetitive)
Is there any possibility of the war doctor on audio?
Anonymous
May 1st, 2014 - 4:17pmGiven that he spent his entire life fighting the Time War (save for the brief break in The Day of the Doctor and even then that was ultimately part of the war) there is absolutely no reason why he would ever be doing something else.
And he won’t be on audio, not for as long as Big Finish won’t do modern stuff. The restriction is self imposed, they have been offered to do modern stuff plenty of times but won’t.
Some bloke
May 1st, 2014 - 6:06pmBut it might be a sort of Blakes 7 scenario, where he has to go around bringing down different dalek bases, destroy there weapons factories, prevent biological warfare, that sort of thing! I think that’d be ok 🙂
MasterKasterborous
April 30th, 2014 - 7:05pmEngines of War is a War Doctor story!! Time War time!
T4RD1S
April 21st, 2014 - 1:34amclaras cardigan thing has bow ties on it, she originally wore it in time of the doctor so maybe a reference to the 11th doctor because it was his last episode
Dalek Sec
April 21st, 2014 - 2:42amI want a figure of bow tie clara along with handles maybe.
T4RD1S
April 21st, 2014 - 6:14pmyeah but it’ll probaly be 3.75
DoctorWhoFan101
April 20th, 2014 - 10:49pmWill Peter Capaldi’s run as the Doctor air in July…? As the 2015 calendar comes out in July so how is the calendar going to work? Because if Capaldi’s air runs throughout August/September them it would be virtually impossible to get decent pictures of him unless, they were filming pictures or perhaps pictures from a photoshoot?
booboo
April 20th, 2014 - 10:52pmits always a problem for calendars and annuals as they have to come out well before the year starts, i doubt this will contain anything about the new series
the astronaut of death
April 20th, 2014 - 10:25pmBooboo can you post an enlarged image of the olittle icon image for the article
booboo
April 20th, 2014 - 10:38pmadded it to the bottom of the page

Lego Whovian
April 12th, 2014 - 10:39amI won’t bother watching Series 8, but I will definitely read the Twelfth Doctor novels.
“Engines of War” will be a past doctor novel, in the same format as “The Wheel of Ice” and “Harvest of Time”. It could feature any of the first eleven doctors. Personally, I hope that it features the Ninth Doctor, since he has the least novels (only six).
MasterKasterborous
April 19th, 2014 - 9:22amWhy aren’t you watching Series 8?
Doctor Who Crazy Ross
April 19th, 2014 - 11:09pmWhy would you buy the tie-in novels, but not watch the episodes?… 😐
Danny
April 21st, 2014 - 5:26pmWHAT????
Lego Whovian
April 27th, 2014 - 12:20amI never watch Doctor Who episodes when they are broadcast. I will watch series 8 eventually, but not until at least early next year. In recent years, I have been put off watching Doctor Who television episodes by the severe lack of quality of the scripts. For example, early last year, I was surprised to learn that a fiftieth anniversary special had been commissioned. When I finally got round to watching the special, after boycotting the simulcast, earlier this year, I’d wished the BBC had never even bothered.
anon
April 6th, 2014 - 8:19pmPreordered the series 8 books, also the. DVD series
Moodbeam
April 5th, 2014 - 11:38pmIt’s the New series novels I’m looking forward to, I wish they would release them more often.
Sam Bentley
April 5th, 2014 - 11:00pmYou know every so often they release newly written, quite big, hard-back stories for classic Doctors? (e.g. ‘Wheel of Ice’ was released as a Second Doctor story) – I’d love to see a newly written Seventh or Sixth Doctor story of that kind. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that ‘Engines of War’ might just be what I am looking for.
the eternal doctor
April 5th, 2014 - 9:31pmsweet

April 5th, 2014 - 9:31pmbooks and calendars are cool

April 5th, 2014 - 8:58pmEngines of War, any idea which Doctor is featured in that story?
Anonymous
April 5th, 2014 - 9:52pm12th
Melkur
April 5th, 2014 - 10:15pmPrior to airdate? Didn’t think they could do that.
Sam Bentley
April 5th, 2014 - 10:50pmThey released ‘Shroud of Sorrow’ before Clara’s first proper appearance in The Bells of Saint John. And there were a few Eleventh Doctor audiobooks released before The Eleventh Hour aired – so it is highly possible that this could be a 12th Doctor book.
Melkur
April 6th, 2014 - 9:21amI looked up ‘Shroud of Sorrow’ and it says it was first released on the 8th April 2013, whereas ‘Bells of St John’ aired on March 30th. Besides, Clara did appear the year before. Did it get an accidental early release, is that what you mean’t?
Personally i think a 12th Doctor novel in July is very unlikely, the author would have to understand the characterisation of the 12th Doctor before writing a novel, otherwise you are steering blind.
I’m hoping it i s a Time War based novel, either with an older 8th or our very first War Doctor novel.
Melkur
April 6th, 2014 - 9:23amOr any classic Doctor of course.
MasterKasterborous
April 19th, 2014 - 9:23amMay be you’re thinking of Made of Steel which came about before Martha had been introduced.

April 30th, 2014 - 5:11pmmaybe the war doctor
doctorfan
April 5th, 2014 - 8:32pmI want them all but not the sci fi non dr who 1
TheWhomobile
April 5th, 2014 - 7:06pmPity, I was hoping for more Target reprints this year 🙁
WFK DVD Collector 14
April 5th, 2014 - 7:27pmI was thinking the same, it’s so sad how the targets seem to have just been forgotten. 🙁

April 6th, 2014 - 1:58pmWhich ones do you want
MasterKasterborous
April 19th, 2014 - 9:24amI think we’re only getting the 12 we’ve got from that reprint run. Which is a grand shame as they were lovely, lovely prints and would love a complete set!
Radburn
April 5th, 2014 - 6:15pmInteresting? As this info is so far in advance I presume it is subject to change?
I would be surprised if the ‘Dr Who The 11th Book 1’ at a 128 pages for a Graphic Novel will be Hardback – More like Softcover?
I’ve seen 7 eshorts listed against ‘Time Trips’ with some unusual authors – So I’m looking forward to the Complete Collection
’12 Doctors, 12 Stories’ Tut! Tut! I’ve bought the book once – I’m not buying it again thank you very much!
The 3 ‘Untitled Season 8 Tie-Ins’ are listed as Paperbacks – Have they changed the Hardback format
Radburn
April 5th, 2014 - 6:17pmContinued:
first release or what?
‘Engines Of War’ by George Mann sounds like the yearly Large Hardback New Adventures standalone novel – Again, another I’m looking forward to!
booboo
April 5th, 2014 - 6:18pmanything could change, i have seen it happen but still some interesting things going on

April 5th, 2014 - 8:40pmOK, but why ditch Alien Attax if it’s the same company? This set sounds very similar. And is this UK or America??
StetsonDoctor
April 5th, 2014 - 8:41pmOK, but why ditch Alien Attax if it’s the same company? This set sounds very similar. And is this UK or America?? Also where do you get this information from? 😕 😕 😕
Radburn
April 5th, 2014 - 9:06pmPresumably because Alien Attax has run it’s course & companies like Topps (Who currently have the Doctor Who Cards License) have decided to produce a different product)
This is aimed at the North American Market but should be available in the UK.
You can get further information from Booboo’s Link above or do an Internet Search for ‘Doctor Who Trading Cards’ there are already a couple of pages up from different site’s showing details of the new series of cards…

April 5th, 2014 - 10:03pmOK thanks Radburn 😀
the astronaut of death
April 5th, 2014 - 5:02pmThe 2015 Dr who annual can’t have that much info as it comes out only a few weeks after airdate
the paternoster gang
April 5th, 2014 - 4:29pmDoes “Doctor who the eleventh doctor 1” collect the first few issues of the eleventh doctor comics into one volume?
DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 5th, 2014 - 4:27pmWhat links Stingray to Space: 1999 ?. The late great Gerry Anderson, that’s what 🙂
What links Doctor Who to the BBC’s other great Sci-Fi series [even if it is a comedy] Red Dwarf ?. Mike Tucker, a model maker who has worked on both classic and new series Doctor Who as well as Red Dwarf . . . . lucky bloke 😀
bryan simcott
April 5th, 2014 - 3:56pmSome of these sound wonderful, but it might be a bit naughtey and annoy somepeople who bought the 11 doctors 11 story print version last year to “have to” buy it all over again just to get a new 12th Doctor story!!
three new novels. whoopee
the astronaut of death
April 5th, 2014 - 3:30pmAwesome!
Jonathan
April 5th, 2014 - 3:24pmYowza! I love Doctor Who books. Those from Broadway Books are possibly gonna be the best. I loved their previous S7 ones (Plague of the Cybermen, The Dalek Generation and Shroud of Sorrow). They are all looking good!
