Doctor Who B&M Autumn 2022 Full Press Release / Al Dewar Video

Character Options unveils a second drop of Doctor Who sets for Autumn 2022. Latest launches arrive at B&M Stores in November

Just weeks after the first 2022 launch of new Doctor Who lines at B&M stores, Character Options has unveiled five more collectors’ sets for the retailer. This next release, due in stock at B&M early October, is sure to delight fans and collectors alike with its detailed figures and accessories.

The Ninth Doctor Collector Set (07771)

This Action figure Set includes:

  • The Ninth Doctor (As TARDIS Emergency Hologram),
  • The Ninth Doctor with updated head, Jacket and new deco.
  • Rose Tyler Action Figure V1 with updated with deco.

The Ninth Doctor was an intense and emotional incarnation. We first encounter him as the sole survivor of the Great Time War and the last of the Time Lords.

As probably the most simply dressed of all his incarnations, he had close-cropped hair, workmen’s boots, and an old beat-up leather jacket worn over a variety of different coloured jumpers. This fantastic incarnation ended shortly after the defeat of the Daleks using the power of the Time Vortex which in the process triggered his regeneration. The Ninth Doctor was accompanied by Rose Tyler, from the Powell Estate on Earth who he took on many adventures across Time and Space.

The Thirteenth Doctor Collector Set (07773).

This Action figure Set includes:

  • The ‘TV transmitted’ Weeping Angel. (With Alternate heads in the assortment)
  • The Thirteenth Doctor in her inverse ‘Flux’ Outfit,
  • Yazmin Khan with alternate head and updated deco.

The Thirteenth Doctor is a charismatic and confident explorer, dedicated to seeing all the wonders of the Universe, and championing fairness and kindness where she can. After crash-landing to Earth, she jumped straight into action to save the Earth. This Doctor’s dress style is pure fun with a long flowing overcoat, braces, a rainbow print T-shirt, and finished off with sturdy boots.

This Doctor loves to be surrounded by friends which she treats like family. Yaz travels with the Thirteenth Doctor all through her incarnation and they share a particularly strong bond.

The First Doctor and Electronic TARDIS Set (07772).

We think fans will be both delighted and surprised with this rather unique set.

This action figure set includes:

  • The First Doctor as portrayed by David Bradley
  • Decorated Electronic TARDIS Toy with Sound and Lights.

As fans know, in the first ever episode of the TV show we encounter the TARDIS and its owner and pilot, an alien traveller known only as The Doctor. It’s the start of a great number of adventures over many years.

Since that first show the First Doctor has been played both on screen, and in audio format, by several actors but David Bradley in both the dramatization of the early years of Doctor Who ‘An Adventure in Space & Time’ and in the twelfth Doctor Story ‘Twice Upon A Christmas’ as well as many Big Finish audio adventures, giving a very unique and powerful portrayal which really captured the essence of William Hartnell’s First Doctor.

It’s no surprise that we also have the next release of the History of the Daleks Sets, Numbers 11 and 12. For Dalek collectors they join the ranks of Daleks Sets going back to the original story.

History of the Daleks 11 – Genesis of the Daleks’ (1975) (07790 – 07774)

This action figure set includes:

  • Genesis Dalek Drone B
  • Genesis Dalek Drone C

The Dalek figures here represent two of the four Daleks used in this story. It might be expected that a story concerning the origins of the Daleks would mean that they would be refurbished to match that of the original 60’s Daleks, however because this story was so drastically different, and set in an unending war zone, the Daleks were a shiny gun metal grey. This was in keeping with the militaristic tones of the story. Although it is one of the simpler colour schemes in the Dalek’s history, the ‘Genesis’ Daleks have gone on to be one of the most iconic.

History of the Daleks Set 12 Destiny of the Daleks (1979) (07790 – 07774)

This action figure set includes

  • Destiny Dalek Drone A
  • Destiny Dalek Drone C

These Dalek figures represent two used in this story. As part of the 17th season of Doctor Who, the BBC’s Visual Effects Department found a very battered collection of Daleks at their disposal. New and old prop parts were mixed freely. Of the props assembled, the lead Dalek was the only one to retain its dark grey ‘Genesis’ style finish, whereas the others were painted a battleship blue along with mismatched parts picked out in gloss black and silver, although all the Daleks were given new eyestalks.

Add to this, by now very ‘worn’ appearance, the props arguably look like the remnants of a Dalek army very much on the back foot in an intergalactic war!

The final item and ‘Special Release’ set for this year is also tied to the 1975 story ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ and features a different Dalek prop and an iconic moment from the story.

The Creation of the Daleks Collector Set (07867) This set includes:

  • ‘Prototype’ and Leader Dalek A plus accessories
  • Davros (Michael Wisher) action figure.

This set is inspired by two of the most iconic moments of ‘Genesis of the Daleks’. The first is when the lone ‘original prototype’ Mark 3 Travel Machine, later destined to be renamed as a Dalek, is being tested out in the wasteland by its creator Davros. In this scene the Dalek is furnished with its means to interact with its surroundings via its new manipulator arm and focused energy weapon.

The second is when later we see a repeat of this moment in front of the Kaled Scientific Elite, when the weapon with its powerpack attached is placed into the Dalek casing. Moment later when given full autonomy to act, it decides to try and make the Fourth Doctor it very first victim. This Dalek is easy to spot as during its time on screen it is usually the leader and sports a distinctive bronze gun arm swivel ball. Also in this set is a re-release of the Davros figure with updated paint deco and still featuring the pop open panel on his dalek style chair base.

Speaking of this wave of releases Al Dewar, Creative Director at Character Options, said: “This range has some real gems in it, including some not so easy to spot ones. The three figure sets are very cool and there’s at least one standout figure in each set, including a new Ninth Doctor with new components and an updated Rose V1. We also have a brand-new Angel variant as well as a physically new version of Yaz. Collectors will delight in looking for both variants of the Angel figure.

“With the Dalek sets – this time we have two absolute standout pieces with ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ and my personal favourite Dalek story ‘Destiny of the Daleks’. For me it has everything and I love the look of the battered war worn Daleks. Following that and much to my own delight, is a new First Doctor figure in the form of David Bradley’s Doctor paired with a very unique looking TARDIS based more on the TARDIS look in the BBC 2013 anniversary drama story which covered the creation of the TV series.

“Lastly to go hand in hand with the Dalek sets is a great special release featuring Davros and a very special Dalek … all I can say is fans will not want to miss out on that one!”

The five new Doctor Who classic lines will be available in November 2022 at B&M stores nationwide.

Is there any difference between the Daleks in the Genesis set? And is there any difference between those Daleks and the prototype with Davros? AND is there any difference between Genesis and previous B&M released Daleks? I remember buying a dark Dalek but can’t remember what story. Just want to know if it’s worth buying the set. Thank you.

A few days ago I briefly saw the Tardis and Davros set on the website too (maybe testing there web capabilities?) but without the 2 Dalek sets that are there as of 2 days ago. Hopefully the beginning of the end of scalpers cashing in.

Last Sunday I went to the Doncaster Lakeside B&M, and they had a few of the Eaglemoss Two Packs.
If anyones interested in the CO Daleks, they also had all the four sets from the Newest Wave.
Including quite a few invisible Dalek sets from the Wave before.

I’ve just thought…Will this wave be the last wave to feature the whittaker era logo? And if so, will the packaging get a complete redesign?
Before this it was the series 7B style red motif.
Then before that it was the Silver/Blue design with the Moffat era logo.

Whatever company your dealing with and you want to get stuff off your Chest, contact there Customer Service Department. They usually know alot more than you imagine.

    • Drwhofan12

      October 26th, 2022 - 2:26pm

So I can email them a list of figures I would like to see be made?

    • Coleman

      October 26th, 2022 - 5:37pm

Yes, I don’t think it would hurt. In theory, Customer Services should pass on your Requests to the appropriate department.
I’m sure company’s like these would like input from the public as it makes there jobs easier.
I don’t know about Character options but Hasbro as been seeking Public opinion for years now. Every so often they hold polls for people on what Characters they would like to be made into a figure. They also do online Q&As and have Reps at Conventions seeking public opinion.

Great wave! Sadly my feeling is more dread than excitement. Absolutely miserable experience trying to get hold of these, and other than one occasion when I got very luck, I never actually do. It’s rubbish seeing these pictures knowing you’re never likely to own them unless you pay double the price on eBay. I’m sure all these will be popular and shelves will be cleared within minutes in most places. Endlessly frustrating.

The tooling of 9s head was damaged due to wear and tear so it sounded like they didn’t have a choice, but to replace it.
The Tenants head tooling is probably ok still.

      October 26th, 2022 - 11:06am

They didn’t have to make a 9th doctor, if they needed a new head they could have made a new character, or a new series 1 rose head…

    October 25th, 2022 - 7:00pm

I am glad that this wave of figures is better than the wave we just got. this time I am going to get more than just the Daleks sets I’m going to get all the sets except the 9th doctor one because of the laziness off them not making the rose figure a new better sculpt and if they can’t then they should just use the season two sculpt. Plus I think the character should make the figures more available than just b&m because our two in Basingstoke don’t even get the full wave if any. Also B&M Should only allow one purchase of each figure set to stop scalpers from taking all the good set and re-selling the sets for double the prise. The people who do that are not true fans of doctor who and are just try to make a quick few pounds from the fans and collectors who actually want the sets.

Character can’t make them more available than B&M as they are ordered by B&M specifically.

Unfortunately, without Argos, Forbidden Planet and others showing an interest in the range anymore then there are no retailers, aside from B&M, to sell them. Without B&M it’s likely we wouldn’t have any. Or at best the occasional online release.

B&M are a store that want and need to move the stock, it doesn’t matter who buys it to them. One per customer just wouldn’t work for them in general. Besides, plenty of true fans buy multiple for army building and customs, so limiting number per customer would also limit fans.

It’s not perfect, but this is what we’ve got, and it’s better than seeing the range disappear altogether.

    • Haza14

      October 25th, 2022 - 10:59pm

While accepting all your points completely, as I have never been able to get hold of any of the sets other than two of them in the last 4 years, and have no confidence that will change in future, it actually makes very little difference to me whether the range disappears altogether or not, other than potentially saving on petrol, stress and frustration which would be nice. Blimey I must be tired and grumpy tonight. Lol

In all fairness it’s a great wave, I just wish more could be done to make these available to all.

I have to defend the Basingstoke store, of which I have been critical in the past. Yes we didn’t get Dalek sets 7 and 8. However the most recent wave, all four sets, were in the shop at the start of October. Yesterday when I visited the shop they had loads of 8th and 10th Doctors. About 5 sets of set 10 of the Daleks and a couple of set 9.

Hopefully with the way they have stocked this time fingers crossed they will have plenty of the next sets in. Failing that hopefully the next wave can be purchased online in November.

Same here – the local B&Ms here are just clogged with the vinyl figures and bobble head daleks that didn’t shift so I assume they think Doctor Who doesn’t sell and so haven’t bothered to get anything new in. The last new sets I saw in B&Ms here (Worcestershire) was way back to the Earthshock/Five Doctors sets.

So I’ve given up looking – life’s too short and I’m saving money!

I spoke too soon. Went in my local store today, not to look for the sets i should add, and then saw they were all in stock so bought a Death to the Daleks set.

The girl serving me said the Doctor Who figures were really popular and she’d sold five herself today alone.

More impressed having watched this and the genesis daleks are thankfully the right shade of grey. Bit miffed to learn of the serene and screaming angel variants. I think there are going to be a lot of stray jodie and Yas figures on ebay for those that want them all. Better than the promo pictures which dont do them justice. Thank you Al.
