Doctor Who Adventures Subscriptions End

Doctor Who Adventures Magazine Subscriptions to End

Due to the increasingly high cost of postal delivery Doctor Who Adventures Magazine will no longer be offering subscriptions as servicing copies is now unprofitable for them.

“We have explored all options, but in the end found that there is no viable way to keep the subscription service going without losing money.
I would like to express my sincerest apologies for this disappointment. I appreciate that this may cause significant upset for the little ones who love getting their magazine through the door every week.”

Subscribers should get a letter in the next few days with details on how to reclaim any overpayments.

If you wish to ensure a regular copy we suggest you put in an order with your local newsagent.

My son has had these mags since 2009 and now with about a weeks notice they stop and i have to apply for a refund. Is there no contract when the items are paid for in advance. If it was the other way round i would have had to give dwa some notice. Its wrong and we won’t be buying it anymore with the lack of regard our loyalty has been given. very bad!

I take the opposite view as someone who uses the mail a lot and am now paying double what i used to.

Its actually quite sad when a magazines viability is affected by unaffordable postage costs.

Warning spoilers:so if john hurt is the doctor then the doctor who history is ruined! so rumours say he is the 9th doctor and Christopher eccleston is the 10th doctor! that is terrible to ruin doctor who history like that. the only other theory is he is the 12th docto or the (valleyard what is the same thing!) whats your thoughts and do you think that they will release a 5 inch figure and release it as the doctor? Moffats ruined doctor who history!

I think the idea is that he’s an anomaly – a ‘forgotten/ignored’ Doctor. So likely (even if he is technically the 9th Doctor) they won’t formally recognise him as such or change the actual numbering of the Doctors (i.e Matt Smith will still be the 11th Doctor).
I’m sure the episode will resolve this somehow. Either way it’s an interesting story to explore (well I think so anyway).

There is a Name of the Doctor page to discuss things like that.

I think this is wrong. Living in a rural community it’s difficult finding a shop that sells it. My Son has been collecting this for years and looks forward to receiving it in the post each week. Poor show DWA!

You can still get subs from a 3rd party magazine subscription site. The downside being that they will cost more overall.

I used to get these when I was smaller… I never subscribed though, I used to like picking one up in TESCO each fortnight/week.

I understand that there may be price issues, but I think that they should have honoured the subscriptions till the next payment was due. – I mean I had a direct debit set up and they took the money out of my account every three months Paid IN ADVANCE, I’ve paid for as service and now I have to ring THEM to claim my money back (and I don’t know how they have worked out the refund – its not enough to cover the copies due) I know the subscription was cheaper but they received the money in advance and had guaranteed sales and loyalty.

I have never subbscribed the magazine, but have had every single issue since it came out April 2006. The one thing that has really annoyed me is the fact that it started off as £1.99, then £2.10, then increased to £2.70 and now its £2.99!!!! I don’t know why they say the gifts are free, as you still pay for them. I can undertstand the Xmas and “Bumper” issues being expensive, but the most expensive issue was the Xmas 2007 one, it was £3.99!!!!

It’s a shame really, considering how popular it is! But if its in the shops, then I’m sure I will keep collecting, after all I love Doctor Who 🙂

Yeah it’s the postage weight of the free gifts and rise in postage costs causing the issues. I live in Australia so have to ‘sub’ through Newsstand – their prices have pretty much doubled in the last year. I used to get them for £3.50 an issue (delivered) when I first starte buying, they are nearly £8 an issue now. 😕

I’ve thought about switching over to a digital sub through itunes… but they are still expensive and there are no gifts of course.

i think the problem here might be the free gift, RM have considerably increased priced and it may be a step to far for this to be viable

I can’t believe this! It’s really strange as today I was thinking to maybe try and subscribe, because I’m going to be sending a drawing in soon and it would have been an easier option to do that since it could be months until it appeared.

Buying it from the shops is the only option then… 🙁

This is a shame, as it was cheaper then the shops(10% or even more if lik me you got your subscription when the magazine first came out) now I don’t think I will get it as I am above target age anyway and 2.99 every week (12 pounds a month) is a lot.

I don’t know why this is, but as ray said it must be due to postal prices and lets face it some free gifts are hardly ideal to fit through the door.

I wonder how this does work out financially as you would expect it would be more expensive putting it in shops (as the shop would want a cut of the profits).
