I pre-ordered mine ages ago for £14.97. It technically would have arrived on Thursday 10th, but postman now is not leaving parcels in the porch after twenty years, so I have to drive once a week to the post sorting office – a 12 mile round trip in traffic.

The irony is that I went into Asda today and there it is for £13.97. What is the point of pre-ordering anymore – there is no loyalty.

The DVD covers for ‘Dragonfire’ and ‘The Happiness Patrol’ look very clearly to be done by Clayton Hickman. Characters framed within/around shapes and what are likely to be very dark (some could say black) spines make this definately Clayton Hickman’s artwork. He always uses shapes (namely circles, triangles and squares), and he also leaves a dark spine for the story title to go on. I do prefer my spines a bit more colourful! It unbalances the collection somewhat.

Clayton seems to do all the box sets these days with lee binding doing the single releases. Btw mock up of the region 2 cover.http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u46/christopher_loftus/ACE.jpg

      February 6th, 2012 - 11:03am

Also ambassadors of death might come out in 2012. The guy that does visual restoration for it has a target finish for it for next month. If it does come out in 2012 expect one of the titles in the expected but to be confirmed list to be held back to 2013 instead.

Just checked, and (excluding the ‘specials’ listed above) amazingly there are only 7 complete stories yet to be released after this box set – which makes me wonder if they are more likely to concentrate on these than the specials which could be left till the 50th Anniversary year?

      February 13th, 2012 - 8:06pm

Planet of giants: eps 3-4 reconstruction? Is that a recon of the episode which was replaced by mission to the unknown, that was never made? Or was it and it’s just got lost? Can’t remember xD

    • Gordon

      February 13th, 2012 - 11:04pm

@ A. Walters. Planet of giants was originally recorded as a 4 parter but producer sydney newman after watching parts 3 and 4 ordered parts 3 and 4 edited into 1 episode ie part 3 that was transmitted. The reconstruction will be the original recorded parts 3 and 4.

    • who crazy!

      February 22nd, 2012 - 5:23pm

Wasn’t Planet of Giants a 3 part episode?

    • Gordon

      February 22nd, 2012 - 11:51pm

Yes it was broadcast as a 3 parter but as mentioned it was recorded as a 4 parter but sydney newman after watching eps 3 and 4 ordered the episodes 3 and 4 be edited into 1 episode ie part 3.

Both stories were fairly controversial at the time for different reasons. The ‘end’ of Dragonfire (you’ll know what i mean) was deemed too scary for viewers and, of course, Kandyman for its Bertie Bassett link…..I love Happiness Patrol though, it’s bizarre, but i love the guests stars, the mouth organ music, the kandyman is a great villain…..and I even love Fifi 😉
