Doctor Who 5.5″ The Curator Collectors Set

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in the 50th anniversary special.

In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion.

All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him…

At the conclusion of this story the Eleventh Doctor meets the Curator, the mysterious guardian of the painting now revealed to be called: “Gallifrey Falls, No More”.

The Curator seems to know a lot more about the Doctor than he lets on, a mystery that still remains unsolved…

  • Includes a Curator Figure, Lenticular Gallifrey Falls Painting, Walking Stick.
  • “In years to come, you might find yourself… revisiting a few. But just the old favourites, eh?”
  • For ages 5 years and over. Styles may vary.

“So yesterday morning we were sent a box of production samples of action figures we’ve been working on over the last nine months.

Most of them haven’t even been announced yet so we can’t talk about them but one figure, The Curator, went on sale yesterday so we thought you might like to see some ‘behind the scenes’ renders of the original sculpt. He was sculpted in ZBrush and rendered in Keyshot.”

Looking at the pictures, I think it might. but if it doesn’t, then I’m sure you could just dip his hand in hot water and curl the fingers around. That’s what I do for when I put my figures on display when they don’t come with accesories, but still have the specially molded hands and thumbs.

Just had this message from FP :
We have just been advised this will now be released at the end of October 2015. As soon as it arrives we will process and despatch your order as quickly as possible. I apologise for this delay and any inconvenience it may cause. If you do not wish to wait for this, please let me know and I will cancel the order for you. Please note that dates are estimated and are subject to change without prior notification. Regards Melissa Frain Accounts Department

Just before people start clamouring and insulting FP for the delay though I would just like to say that please bear in mind that Forbidden Planet are not responsible for the delays! Those responsible are CO/UT and those who make the figures before shipping them to the sellers and stores.

FP often get lots of flak for delays (such as the Time Of The Doctor set) but it’s not their fault, so before complaining how FP will lose your business because of this delays at least remember whose responsible first!

A bit of a strange choice. With the extremely limited number of different characters being released, Tom Baker from DotD is unusual. I get that the painting is a key part of the story, but he is only in it for a minute.

I adore this figure. £30 is expensive, but if you put your business hat on then I don’t think it’s particularly hard to see why, though I completely understand why it would turn some off. At the end of the day all these toys are treats and different mileages vary.

okay so I’ve been thinking……its £15 for a collectors series 12th doctor figure

so I guess that would mean a collectors series curator figure will also be £15

but the curator figure comes with a paining and that increases the cost of the set to £30 ….. so that means we are paying £15 for the painting accessory…..!!!!

Figure is a one off with no possible variants or reusable parts unlike the 12th Doctor so its bound to cost more, the painting is also huge

  • STRAXTHEDESTROYER

    September 20th, 2015 - 9:58pm

Im probably going to buy this set anyway , but this would have been a great opportunity to include another figure ( even if it. Was a re paint ) such as a zygon, clara or a destroyed dalek figure. £30 is a bit pricy , but character options knows that people will still be willing to cash out.

There are no variants possible or interchangeable parts on this figure which is bound to effect the price, that on top of Vat and other import costs, the way these are having to be distributed has clearly changed

Its strange those questioning the price never mention how the USA have to pay nearly double the price for UK sourced figures such as the toys are us exclusives and B&M sets.

      It works both ways

    • TheMaster666

      September 21st, 2015 - 11:34am

Its not only America that has to pay loads more. USA is lucky they get more chance to buy them then I do in Australia.. to buy the 12th Doctor 5″ figure I am looking at $100AU all up with postage because I can only buy them of Ebay.. I hate to think what this set will be if I am ever able to find it.. I am tired of having this trouble whenever a new Figure set in 5″ comes out they are only ever for the UK..

    • booboo

      September 21st, 2015 - 11:39am

something has obvious changed with the distribution system, Australia regularly got all of these releases 1st in the past

I always thought Australia had become big player in sales of these sets so not being able to access them easily must have an impact on sales

    • STRAXTHEDESTROYER

      September 21st, 2015 - 7:20pm

Oh that makes alot more sense , and i see your point with overseas sales , booboo . Perhaps we’re just not use to paying that amount for one figure here in the uk and sort of took the price for granted considering the issues other collectors have abroad.

This looks stunning! I think that this is a fantastic choice for a figure because:

    A. It’s from the 50th

    B. It can be used to portray Tom as himself in any fan animations so you can create scenarios like Little Britain, Jon Culshaw’s ‘Dead Ringers’ prank call to Tom Baker or have the Doctor end up in a comic con meeting an actor who played the Doctor, essentially creating a fourth wall moment like in “‘Masterplan’ or ‘Remembrance'”.

This defo looks like a figure you’d be foolish not to buy.

So glad the 5 inch line is being well received with the new figures. Hope it will continue being popular for many years. I did a slight paint customizing to the 12th Doctor. The sculpt has the age lines, just needed some shading to bring them out. Looks much more like him now.
