It’s a shame the classic DVD line is ending but I suppose it had to finish sometime. All that’s left to say now is really…
“It’s the end… but the moment has been prepared for…”

This may not be the End the Crusade is only missing two episodes so the hope is that one day they may animate that too.

Oh no.. I knew it would have to happen, but the end of the classic Doctor Who DVDs. Sad days for all, sadder still for those in possession of all the existing ones (a number in which I count myself, thankfully, not one of). But this isn’t goodbye!

Unfortunately not, the DVD team were the last to find out last time there was a discovery.

We may still live in hope.

Not exactly true; this tweet was posted by the Restoration Team and one of it’s members, Steve Roberts, was one of the first to know. In fact Ralph Montagu informed Steve before anyone on Wednesday 20 July 2011 that he had recovered Air Lock.

However, others involved in the DVD production (for example) Dan Hall were not told until much later, in fact I believe I read somewhere not until after MBW.

You can also email BBC Worldwide – not sure of the address at moment to thank them for all the work they’ve done and politely ask them to consider animating other stories like Crusade.

I will probably pick up the Underwater Menace as I’d like to see the newly recovered episode 2 and also as it’s one of the final DVD releases.

I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT

Let’s just hope that the crusade and mission to the unknown receive the same treatment.

Here’s an idea, since they are episodically consecutive, should they be released in a box set?

And if so, what should it be called?

    • MasterKasterborous

      September 5th, 2013 - 9:56pm

But sadly that’s not how the budgeting works; they’ll be separate. Other than they’re next to each other they don’t have a link so it would end up being like The Rescue/The Romans or The Space Museum/The Chase.

    • skaroman

      September 5th, 2013 - 9:58pm

I mean the underwater menace and the moonbase in a box set together.

    • Fezmeister

      September 5th, 2013 - 10:01pm

MasterKasterborous didn’t contradict that. He also explained why that won’t happen.

    • skaroman

      September 5th, 2013 - 10:07pm

But they’re both Troughton episodes with half their episodes missing and animated and are consecutive.

Remember that the only link between the space museum / the chase was only because of the at end of the space museum and the leading onto the chase.

Don’t chance my dear fellow. Hm hm hm hm…

      (LOL Hartnell joke)

They could call it “the final end”

    • MasterKasterborous

      September 6th, 2013 - 6:24pm

I know that the two I mentioned only have the ‘consecutive’ link but they were commissioned as Box Set releases. The Underwater Menace and The Moonbase have been commissioned as separate releases (only two animated episodes per release is currently possible) and cannot just be joined however nice an idea that would be.

However much I think that would be great as a special feature for me it has to have the original soundtrack and animation or reconstruction otherwise it’s too far removed from the original.

Do they mean the final Troughton DVDs???

They can’t just forget the crusade, it’s a very important DVD, as then we will have a complete classic season 2. And it’s only missing two episodes!!!

    • starshipalaska

      September 5th, 2013 - 7:13pm

The Crusade episodes 1 and 3 are available as part of the Lost in Time DVD, with episodes 2 and 4 on the DVD as audio soundtracks.

    • Some bloke

      September 5th, 2013 - 7:42pm

so… they did the same with the moonbase and yet they’re animating that, so why not crusades?

    • Jamiouse

      September 5th, 2013 - 8:36pm

The Moonbase will make money because of the Cybermen, The Crusade on the other hand is an historical which aren’t as popular and I think don’t sell as well. It’s finances really.

    • skaroman

      September 5th, 2013 - 9:44pm

But the reign of terror was historical and I thought it was one of the best historical adventures ever!

    • Jamiouse

      September 5th, 2013 - 9:56pm

Reign was a ‘tester’ to see how the newly animated releases were recieved and I think possibily a tester to see how an animated historical sells.

    • WFK DVD Collector 13

      September 6th, 2013 - 9:18am

Oh well life goes on… At lest we’re getting the underwater menace!

  • The TARDIS

    September 5th, 2013 - 6:10pm

It would be nice if they were to slowly go through and fill in the gaps of missing ones, so slowly get through those with more missing episodes animated. It would be good to see, for example, one or two a year, so we may get to see the likes of The Daleks’ Masterplan on DVD, or The Power of the Daleks.

no… at the end of 2011 they announced that they had found episode 2 of underwater menace and galaxy 4 episode 3, which means that underwater menace episodes 2 and 3 exist now. HOW COULD YOU HAVE NOT KNOWN THIS!

    • MasterKasterborous

      September 5th, 2013 - 7:08pm

When this is released on DVD they’ll all be on DVD; so it’s not a huge surprise the range is coming to an end.

    • Andrew

      September 6th, 2013 - 11:21am

wow, I didn’t know they found more, I hope that bloke who went on a journey found more episodes! And some of galaxy 4 has been found?!? I remember watching a documentry about it, didn’t think it would be found.

    • MasterKasterborous

      September 6th, 2013 - 6:26pm

Only episode three of Galaxy 4 has been found. Despite rumours (there have always been rumours for the past 30 years mind) I think it’s pretty safe to say these are the only ones to have been recovered recently.
