Christopher Eccleston returns to Big Finish!
Big Finish Productions today announces a second series of Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures starring Christopher Eccleston, due to be released throughout 2022 and into 2023.
Last year, Big Finish announced the Ninth Doctor’s return to Doctor Who, with his inaugural series of full-cast audio dramas currently delighting audiences and critics alike. Now, Christopher Eccleston returns to the TARDIS for twelve more exciting adventures in time and space, across four brand new box sets.
Each volume is now available for pre-order exclusively at the Big Finish website www.bigfinish.com, with prices starting at just £19.99.
Christopher Eccleston said: “Just before Christmas in 2020, I walked into a small recording studio in an industrial estate in North London. Me and the sound engineer looked at each other and we smiled and said, ‘Let’s go!’ Then I started playing the Ninth Doctor again, and I loved it.
“It’s been one of the great joys for me of the past year. It’s a lovely way to do it, so I’m coming back to record more.”
Big Finish Chairman Jason Haigh-Ellery said: “I am so glad that Christopher has enjoyed his time with us so much that he has agreed to continue his travels in the TARDIS. Bringing the Ninth Doctor back to the Doctor Who universe has been one of the few enjoyable parts of the past year and I am so glad that the adventures will continue!”
Producer David Richardson added: “I’ve spent most of my summer weekends sitting in the garden, iPad on my lap, reading the scripts for The Ninth Doctor Adventures – Series Two. Happy days indeed. “From an old railway station to the seas of Titan, to a very unusual furniture store in the present day, it’s another trip of a lifetime – and I can’t wait to be back in the studio again in October, where we will bring these words to brilliant life. Big Finish listeners can save by pre-ordering a bundle of the entire series for just £88 (as a collector’s edition box set) or £78 (as a download).
Doctor Who – The Ninth Doctor Adventures triple LP vinyls are strictly limited to a pressing of 1,000 per volume, and can be pre-ordered at £35.99 each, or £132 for the bundle of all four albums, again exclusively at the Big Finish website.
Please note: the vinyl editions do not include any behind-the-scenes extras. However, listeners purchasing vinyl LP editions will receive a download of the story automatically and be given access to the CD edits as a bonus download. Episodes will be edited specifically for the vinyl format, presented as 2 episodes, one on each side, each with opening and closing music. In addition, all pre-orders of the vinyls will also receive the behind the extras as a bonus download.

I wasnt that keen on the ravagers but respond to all calls was a big improvement and he seems to have found his ‘doctor’ voice again now hes settled in. He didn,t quite sound himself on the first boxset.

September 13th, 2021 - 7:16pmAll the drama and personal issues aside, in every single interview I see him in, or just stuff online he seems really miserable and unapproachable. I can understand why barrowman seemed to find it difficult to work with him. This’ll probably get removed and receive lots of hate but whatever. I’m not losing much sleep over him not wanting to return to the show

September 14th, 2021 - 6:07amDoctor Stu, Eccleston is very much a working-class actor, he’s never attempted to be showy or famous, unlike Barrowman, hence why they didn’t get along. But he’s always had full respect for other cast/crew who are there to do a day’s work, just has he does. Not every actor bathes in the glory of being famous, and he’s one of them.
If you’ve read his autobiography you’ll know he’s had a very, very tough time over the years, with body-mage, blacklisted, etc. It’s little wonder he’s not the most charismatic person when life hits you as hard as it has to him, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be invited back for the 60th, unless he chooses not to return.
The long and the short is you don’t need mountains to personality (most people in life don’t), have an ego or even want to be famous just to be an actor. That’s very much Eccleston’s approach to his profession and he should be respected for that (just watch the Big Finish interview with him where he bluntly says he partly does these new audio dramas because he needs the money, especially after 2020).

September 14th, 2021 - 5:19pmI agree Doctor Stu. I’m not a fan of how he is in interviews. Some of the way he is is understandable, but he insists on putting across his political views in EVERY interview and I find that annoying, personally.

September 14th, 2021 - 7:09pmHe seems to be in a much better place these days than he could be back in the day. He could be very serious when pushed on certain subjects but that much can be said of anyone. Money orientated or not he seems a lot more joyous when you hear him in the big finish interviews. He sounds more enthusiastic when talking about Doctor Who, his fellow actors, his family and especially his son.
