Toy Fair 2020 News Round up 5.5″ figures and Construction Kits

Its that time of year again and our annual visit to the toy fair proved worthwhile.

On display at the Character stand were:

  • 13th Doctor TARDIS
  • Judoon with Gun
  • Reconnaissance Dalek (with Dalek mutant accessory)
  • Graham O’brien
  • The Thirteenth Doctor (with bag and sonic screwdriver accessories) purple top

These items are now available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com

They will also available to order at a later date from www.character-online.com

These are due in late February, Figures have an RRP of £12.99 and the (lights and sound) Tardis £24.99

Also on display were Yaz and Ryan who will be included in an upcoming 13th Doctor B&M set!

The 13th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver was also on display and it should be noted everything is now in the “Classic Blue” style guide, as per the B&M sets.

One of the good things about the toy fair is that you come across things that you knew nothing about and this year it was 3 metal construction kits due towards the end of the year.

These kits are big and include The Tardis, K9 and a Dalek. They may look a little basic to some but we are back to the good old days of, well you know, those construction sets we all loved. These are great.

On a side note we spent a good, and very rewarding few hours with Eaglemoss outside of the event.

That photo Al Dewar “posted” of the new figures and TARDIS showed it with the door open and you could see the interior card

It’s a custom interior card that he added himself

He’s posted it on Gallifrey base for anyone who wants to make their own interior card

This is obviously fake news, CO would never release an electronic TARDIS. It’s TOO much effort for them. 😉

the other side to that of course is that if they had never made an electronic version of the classic Tardis, this one might never have existed, or any B&M Tardis for that matter, its a sort paradox

These look interesting! I can’t wait to give the new Doctor her ‘fam’ as well as an enemy of her own to fight. The Reconnaissance Dalek looks pretty sweet, and I love that we’re getting a figure of an actual Dalek creature again.

ARGOS’S new Catalogue is due out next week! Likely means that Doctor Who will be in it as the Judoon episode would have aired by then – NOT 100% but

    This is what i got:

Annoying that Ryan and Yaz will be B&M released. The same old searching, followed by eBay scalers. Would have been better as a Dr and companions set.

    • Judooning

      January 22nd, 2020 - 6:58pm

I think the days of scalpers taking all the stock are over. Co make more of each set now that they know the demand is high for them. We had plenty of last years sets
Of course, it doesn’t stop the scalpers, but there is very little risk of stock running out now.

    • booboo

      January 22nd, 2020 - 7:10pm

Retailers didn’t want the set, be grateful B&M exist.

There were online retailers who bought 60+ each of the Tardis and then there are Amazon sellers, its not all about ebay either.

    • Daz

      January 22nd, 2020 - 7:41pm

I found the B&M sets much better with the last sets lots of stock in a good few B&M’s I can get to. I got what I wanted and even spotted a load of stock last week in a more quiet store.
Don’t pay eBay prices even the Eaglemoss 5th Doctor console is on eBay for double the price when it’s on their website for the proper price. I think eBay sellers got burned last time ending up stuck with stock they bought lol

    • Bob James

      January 22nd, 2020 - 10:50pm

There isn’t going to be anywhere near the sometimes usual demand for any B&M new series set. I think they’ll be readily available off the store shelves. And barring that, I think it’s pretty safe to say that even if the scalpers come out of the gate with prices blazing, they’ll come down when the demand doesn’t warrant it.

    • booboo

      January 23rd, 2020 - 8:23am

wouldn’t be to sure on that, a 13th Doctor set is going to appeal far more to casual and impulse buyers and kids looking down the toy isle than any classic set which are aimed really at collectors now, and collectors will want the 13th Doctor set as well, so its a double market.

    • Steven Taylor

      January 23rd, 2020 - 6:41am

It’s honestly not a very interesting image, it’s just the original prototype Judoon Captain from 2007 which has been photoshopped to include the new mohawk (original gun and scanners haven’t been changed either), so it’s certainly not a reflection of what the final figure will look like.

Bit disappointed by these – hearing about kits got me excited, nothing against meccano of course – love the stuff – but would love some proper, scaled Doctor Who kits for things like ships, TARDIS consoles and such.

Never really been done and I do think there’s a market there with Revell, who do a Star Wars line – or potentially Airfix again who have done DW previously… just not as large a scale this time.

    Would be fun one day

It’s great to finally get some more 5″ action figures that will go on general release.

Just hope the Dalek isn’t in short supply as that’s the figure collectors will really want. You can almost predict shelves full of Graham and the Doctor priced at £2.99 in the summer and Daleks on Ebay for £200.

Well, that could maybe end up being a good thing, as it might make retailers tell Character Options, “Can you focus on making original monsters, please? They sell the best.” CO make money, retailers make money, fans get brand new figures… everybody wins!

  • Demdike@CultLabs

I’m betting it’s probably the same figure the majority of us still have from 2007 repackaged.

Looking forward to all these. Don’t get why on the dalek construction kit they have used a rehearsal photo, the dalek belts have rolls of tape on them and the dalek on the right has a label on its dome, which would have had a number on it, so in rehearsals they could tell which was talking and what actions a particular dalek should be doing. It probably concept image anyhow.
