Toy Fair 2020 News Round up 5.5″ figures and Construction Kits
Its that time of year again and our annual visit to the toy fair proved worthwhile.
On display at the Character stand were:
- 13th Doctor TARDIS
- Judoon with Gun
- Reconnaissance Dalek (with Dalek mutant accessory)
- Graham O’brien
- The Thirteenth Doctor (with bag and sonic screwdriver accessories) purple top
These items are now available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com
They will also available to order at a later date from www.character-online.com
These are due in late February, Figures have an RRP of £12.99 and the (lights and sound) Tardis £24.99
Also on display were Yaz and Ryan who will be included in an upcoming 13th Doctor B&M set!
The 13th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver was also on display and it should be noted everything is now in the “Classic Blue” style guide, as per the B&M sets.
One of the good things about the toy fair is that you come across things that you knew nothing about and this year it was 3 metal construction kits due towards the end of the year.
These kits are big and include The Tardis, K9 and a Dalek. They may look a little basic to some but we are back to the good old days of, well you know, those construction sets we all loved. These are great.
On a side note we spent a good, and very rewarding few hours with Eaglemoss outside of the event.

January 27th, 2020 - 3:00pmAny idea where I will be able to buy the 5inch figures in the UK?
Marky
January 25th, 2020 - 8:57pmHave we got any classic Dr who figures & companions being released in February?
DoctorPond393
January 26th, 2020 - 2:16pmThe classic line only comes through B&M sets now
Michael Wilcock
January 25th, 2020 - 3:07pmDoes the tardis have a picture of the control room inside?
The Outcast
January 25th, 2020 - 4:15pmNo, it doesn’t.

January 26th, 2020 - 2:34amThat photo Al Dewar “posted” of the new figures and TARDIS showed it with the door open and you could see the interior card
Wholords2
January 26th, 2020 - 8:39amIt’s a custom interior card that he added himself
He’s posted it on Gallifrey base for anyone who wants to make their own interior card
booboo
January 26th, 2020 - 9:29amThat’s why he doesn’t want stuff copied because its doesn’t tell the whole story
Mrs Croot
January 24th, 2020 - 9:40pmThis is obviously fake news, CO would never release an electronic TARDIS. It’s TOO much effort for them. 😉
booboo
January 24th, 2020 - 9:48pmthe other side to that of course is that if they had never made an electronic version of the classic Tardis, this one might never have existed, or any B&M Tardis for that matter, its a sort paradox
Dalek the Supreme
January 24th, 2020 - 6:40pmThese look interesting! I can’t wait to give the new Doctor her ‘fam’ as well as an enemy of her own to fight. The Reconnaissance Dalek looks pretty sweet, and I love that we’re getting a figure of an actual Dalek creature again.
DoctorPond393
January 24th, 2020 - 3:20pmAl Dewar has confirmed that the Yaz and Ryan B&M set will be released in April!
booboo
January 24th, 2020 - 4:46pmIt was mid year, but without any official updates its impossible to for us to keep up with what going on.
DoctorPond393
January 24th, 2020 - 8:17amJust wondering, if the TARDIS has an RRP of £19.99, why has Forbidden Planet got it up for £24.99?
booboo
January 24th, 2020 - 8:20amit is 24.99 the price i saw was wrong
DoctorPond393
January 24th, 2020 - 3:18pmAh okay, cheers booboo
Ian
January 22nd, 2020 - 11:28pmThe Tardis is really good! Does anyone know if these will be available in the US.
Tellygeek
February 8th, 2020 - 6:43amAn answer would have been grand, eh Ian?
Thomas Chapman
January 22nd, 2020 - 9:43pmARGOS’S new Catalogue is due out next week! Likely means that Doctor Who will be in it as the Judoon episode would have aired by then – NOT 100% but
This is what i got:
”Hi, our new range is due to launch by the end of next week. Unfortunately we can’t confirm what will be in the catalogue as of yet”
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 9:53pmanyone remember the days when you used to constantly phone in after 12.00am trying to reserve what ever they had in stock from the new catalogue
Thomas Chapman
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:34pmThose were the days – hopefully we can relive them with this if they sell them
booboo
January 23rd, 2020 - 8:54amif they are in the catalogue be interesting to see if there stores have one or two of each ahead of the main stock like it used to be
Doctor
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:32pmHo right so can you remind what’s in the jan wave
DoctorPond393
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:46pmThere is no January wave. The figures listed above will be released at the end of February.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:48pm3 Dalek sets (same as before but with visible differences) and I believe a 3rd Doctor Tardis of some sort, info is very sparse though so i have no clue if things have changed
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:50pmi assume they meant the B&M stuff
BeeversMaster
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:30pmWait there are more B and M sets out this month?
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:40pmFebruary was last word
BeeversMaster
January 22nd, 2020 - 9:00pmAh ok. Thanks Booboo.
Fredfez
January 23rd, 2020 - 8:23pmBooboo, when you say three dalek sets same as before, so you mean b&m are releasing variants of the big finish sets? I never got any when they first came out and would love the 8th doc still.
booboo
January 23rd, 2020 - 8:35pmthey are supposed to be the same 3 sets but with very noticeable differences, i asked at the toy fair and could’t get any hard info so i just don’t know.
we were not able to ask as much as i would have liked to be honest.
Fredfez
January 27th, 2020 - 1:45pmThank you boo boo. Fingers crossed
Doctor
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:21pmBooboo when do you think news of the b&m jan wave is going to be announced
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:24pmi dont know i did ask, it may just turn up (its Down for very early Feb at the moment)
Dominion
January 22nd, 2020 - 6:52pmAnnoying that Ryan and Yaz will be B&M released. The same old searching, followed by eBay scalers. Would have been better as a Dr and companions set.
Judooning
January 22nd, 2020 - 6:58pmI think the days of scalpers taking all the stock are over. Co make more of each set now that they know the demand is high for them. We had plenty of last years sets
Of course, it doesn’t stop the scalpers, but there is very little risk of stock running out now.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:10pmRetailers didn’t want the set, be grateful B&M exist.
There were online retailers who bought 60+ each of the Tardis and then there are Amazon sellers, its not all about ebay either.
Daz
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:41pmI found the B&M sets much better with the last sets lots of stock in a good few B&M’s I can get to. I got what I wanted and even spotted a load of stock last week in a more quiet store.
Don’t pay eBay prices even the Eaglemoss 5th Doctor console is on eBay for double the price when it’s on their website for the proper price. I think eBay sellers got burned last time ending up stuck with stock they bought lol
Bob James
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:50pmThere isn’t going to be anywhere near the sometimes usual demand for any B&M new series set. I think they’ll be readily available off the store shelves. And barring that, I think it’s pretty safe to say that even if the scalpers come out of the gate with prices blazing, they’ll come down when the demand doesn’t warrant it.
booboo
January 23rd, 2020 - 8:23amwouldn’t be to sure on that, a 13th Doctor set is going to appeal far more to casual and impulse buyers and kids looking down the toy isle than any classic set which are aimed really at collectors now, and collectors will want the 13th Doctor set as well, so its a double market.
Steven Taylor
January 23rd, 2020 - 6:41amGet the B&M app ,it shows if any are in stock at any B&M
Whovian4Ever
January 22nd, 2020 - 4:22pmVery excited for these! Look forward to having figures of Yaz, Ryan and Graham, a Reconnaissance Dalek, a new variation of the 13th Doctor, and a TARDIS too! They’ll make for great additions to my collection!
Craig.
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:53pmI’ll pass on these. Any news on B&M sets? Need a Tardis for the 8th and War Doctor. Anymore classic Masters would be good too.
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 5:14pmNo. These are still amazing though and perhaps you could reconsider them?
Judooning
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:34pmWas anything said if retailers such as TESCO, ASDA etc were interest or carrying these figures? I feel like these retailers would play a big part in the success of these figures should they be on the shelf of major supermarkets again.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:38pmnothing was said but we weren’t there for very long to be honest
Thomas
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:51pmmight be worth contacting the shops themselves.
Hopefully they will confirm in the next few days when they will ship and who will stock them
Richard Phillips
January 22nd, 2020 - 2:37pmA picture of the Judoon figure has leaked with the rest of pictures! Looks pretty good, he’s got the new chest piece
Judooning
January 22nd, 2020 - 2:44pmWhere can it be found?
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 2:54pmnot worth looking at to be honest because its not the final figure, just a mock up for a toyfair leaflet, even the 13th Doctor doesn’t have her bag in the image
Jamie Clydesdale
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:10pmwhere ??
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:30pmWhere was it leaked to
WhovianLife
January 22nd, 2020 - 3:38pmWhere?
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 4:20pmIt’s honestly not a very interesting image, it’s just the original prototype Judoon Captain from 2007 which has been photoshopped to include the new mohawk (original gun and scanners haven’t been changed either), so it’s certainly not a reflection of what the final figure will look like.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 5:55pmI’ve seen the Judoon, probably not many people have it was taken off display whilst we were there, your much better waiting see what it really looks like.
BrunoB
January 22nd, 2020 - 7:18pmYup, we were lucky to be at the Toy Fair early. Judoon looked really good. Great meeting you guys at the TF!

Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 12:01pmDo you think that if the sales of these do well then we might start to see more figures and such???
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 12:14pmpossibly, but they take a long time to develop from start to finish so probably wont be until next year if they happen.
Judooning
January 22nd, 2020 - 12:36pmI’m pretty sure the first release of the 13th dr 5″ figure sold quite well didnt it? I think Characters website sold out the first batch that went up, and the same for the next few batches they got.
I know places have It reduced now but that’s usually the case once they’ve sold the majority of the stock
Steven
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:59amI hope we’re going to get more from the classics… a few more forbidden planet releases perhaps
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 11:10amimpossible now, but classic sets of sorts will continue via B&M
Luke Ryan
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:42amBit disappointed by these – hearing about kits got me excited, nothing against meccano of course – love the stuff – but would love some proper, scaled Doctor Who kits for things like ships, TARDIS consoles and such.
Never really been done and I do think there’s a market there with Revell, who do a Star Wars line – or potentially Airfix again who have done DW previously… just not as large a scale this time.
Would be fun one day
Demdike@CultLabs
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:07amIt’s great to finally get some more 5″ action figures that will go on general release.
Just hope the Dalek isn’t in short supply as that’s the figure collectors will really want. You can almost predict shelves full of Graham and the Doctor priced at £2.99 in the summer and Daleks on Ebay for £200.
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:30pmWell, that could maybe end up being a good thing, as it might make retailers tell Character Options, “Can you focus on making original monsters, please? They sell the best.” CO make money, retailers make money, fans get brand new figures… everybody wins!
Demdike@CultLabs
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:04amWonder what they could possibly embargo on the Judoon figure?
I’m betting it’s probably the same figure the majority of us still have from 2007 repackaged.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 10:10amits head is different, and something else on it and with it.

January 22nd, 2020 - 10:22ammy computers playing up didn’t think they posted first time
Judooning
January 22nd, 2020 - 11:08amI hope they’ve updated the translator socket on his chest to the new shape.
The Judoon has always been my favourite new series figure and monster so to have them return AND a figure released of them is something I’m still getting my head around haha
Steven
January 22nd, 2020 - 11:15amPossibly a removable helmet… that would be cool
JacksonLake
January 22nd, 2020 - 2:22pmON IT: the new translator piece
WITH IN: new gun/accessories…and helmet?!
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 2:28pmi did not see a helmet, new hair do probably would allow for it i suspect

January 22nd, 2020 - 9:52amThose construction kits look amazing love this sort of thing
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 9:50amLooking forward to all these. Don’t get why on the dalek construction kit they have used a rehearsal photo, the dalek belts have rolls of tape on them and the dalek on the right has a label on its dome, which would have had a number on it, so in rehearsals they could tell which was talking and what actions a particular dalek should be doing. It probably concept image anyhow.
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 9:31amIs it safe to assume that FP will get these or at least the CO website. Either way it will be so so so nice to merely click and order as apossed to the organised chaos of hunting down the B&M sets.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 9:37amyes general release, many places should have them
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:21amBoo boo or like do you have any pictures of the stand from character from toy fair? And when will the sonic be re released?
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:24amno pictures were allowed in the end, although that may change today because the official images have now been released.
Not sure on the sonic its just a running change of the packaging
Anonymous
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:02amDo you know when the construction kits will be out?
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 8:10amprobably not until November-ish, these are quite big kits
JRT!
January 22nd, 2020 - 5:43amSo Eaglemoss are actually there? Just wondering, since they’re not on the exhibitor list.
booboo
January 22nd, 2020 - 6:20amno we saw them on their own
