B&M 2022 10th Doctor Figure Set

Stocks have now arrived. Comments on this item be now be left in the Stocks Arrived Post.

Character Options is pleased to announce the next wave of Doctor Who figures for summer 2022, scheduled to land in B&M stores in September (but down to B&M when they put them out).

Each new addition to this line forms part of the 5.5” figure range and features new decoration as well as multiple points of articulation. The new sets come packaged in the familiar ‘heritage’ style Doctor Who collector packs; though, this time, there are a few changes that eagle-eyed fans might notice.

In this set, we have three all-new variants of the Tenth Doctor. The first figure depicted is the Tenth Doctor in his slightly brighter blue two-piece suit, pale blue shirt and burgundy tie that’s specifically tied to look like it did in The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith parts one and two.

The second figure is based on this same story but sees the Doctor wearing his iconic long duster style overcoat. The final figure of the Tenth Doctor is inspired by the comic book series The Tenth Doctor Adventures. This figure has a particularly ‘ragged’ look, with dirtied blue shirt, tie worn askew, and lower forearms exposed.

Al Dewar Creative Director commented “I think and hope the fans and collectors will really like these new sets. We have really spent time updating the look of the figures to make them different. The Eighth Doctor set, especially the TV movie and NOTD figures are a real delight and have a much more sophisticated look, befitting a modern action figure. I think they are the best yet. The Tenth Doctor sets have a very different and fresh feel and come with two never released variants. The Dalek sets not only feature new packaging, but we have finally brought to the fans the Dalek Supreme and a fully transparent Dalek from Planet of the Daleks! And The Death to the Daleks set is also very close to my heart!”

Will there be any time war (2005) daleks there are so many variants, like the black and silver supreme from master for example

What saddens me the most is that even being restricted to 3 of the same figure, this would have been an ideal option to get some variants we never had. For example, the darker undershirt from stories like Utopia/Last of the Time Lords, or a variant of Tennant’s Impossible Planet brown-ish under shirt. The ones that claim to be from the wedding of Sarah Jane don’t even have the lighter plain red tie. Maybe I’m asking for too much, just feels like a missed opportunity to me. This is probably the first three pack I will pass on.

I completely agree with you. I think they should’ve gone with the updated headsculpt just to make these a little more distinct and accurate, but I appreciate that the updated arm articulation may not have been financially viable. So the natural choice is to update the decor and produce brand new variants, so they really stand out as new and hide any shortcomings of the articulation, etc.

If they’d have done a set with the Doctor suited and coated from Silence in the Library and then suited from The Impossible Planet, all with the updated headpiece, then the reception would’ve been far more positive. A parallel variant set, like they did for The Five Doctors, with the Doctor suited and coated from Utopia / The Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords and then suited from The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith would’ve been really cool too and given the customer the option without any direct duplication. I suspect that also would’ve helped balance those that aren’t as keen with more Tenth Doctors with those that would purchase both versions.

Just feels like they didn’t even get the bare minimum right with this one, which is a real shame. I do like the updated decor for the blue suit, as I did for the brown suit in the Thirteen Doctors set, but the old headsculpt and no pinstripes is making this a hard sell for me. The irony is if they’d have done the updated articulation then I’d have overlooked those shortcomings!

I wonder if the More Articulated update of the 10th Doctor has been made for a future “Normal Wave” of figures for the 60th Anniversary, Since we know Tennant’s back for that show. He also wears that outfit again with the Brown Trenchcoat as seen in Spoiler Photos.
(I’m sure theirs a reason for this figure popping up on Ebay recently).
      Any ideas Guys?

      August 10th, 2022 - 10:59am

apparently it was to be in these sets but was dropped for budgetary reasons, although the business person in me would say, hang on, 10th is back next year, lest hang onto that one for a a while longer

    • Coleman

      August 10th, 2022 - 6:18pm

Yes, definitely a release for the 60th Anniversary, considering the 10th is back.

  • The Toymaker

    August 9th, 2022 - 10:04pm

Can only hope the money they’ve saved with this lacklustre range means they’ve invested in some really smashing figures like the Fugitive Doctor and Sacha Master for later in the year!

    • kaz

      August 9th, 2022 - 10:38pm

Don’t get your hopes up, they’ve only made 1 full original figure sculpt in the last 6 years

    • Hewy

      August 10th, 2022 - 3:40am

Yep – I was hoping for some Yeti as the animation missing episode release is early next month the cost of mouldings etc… not to mention the world tetering on the brink of yet another recession …

Absolutely love the colours, just with they had a brand new headsculpt!!! Will be picking up a couple. I’m so happy with the blue, been wanting that a long time!!!

  • pupbenny

    August 9th, 2022 - 9:23pm

I will say I do actually like the look of the new blue-suit and, even more so, the version with the new(?) brown coat, that looks like a lighter, brighter brown to me. These brighter colours really make this set pop and I think it looks really nice.

The lack of pin-stripes also doesn’t bother me even though it’s inaccurate, but I think that might just be because I’ve always thought (until checking today) that the 10th Doctor did have a plain blue suit that the Meta-Crisis Doctor ended up with. (Which upon a quick Google search I found to be false so idk why I’ve always thought that lol.)

It definitely looks really nice, imo, it’s simply the fact that they could’ve done so much more when it comes to 10th Doctor variants that to get three that weren’t really sort after just feels like a massive missed opportunity.

  • Mrs Croot

    August 9th, 2022 - 8:54pm

To everyone askig about the spiked hair, i think the sculpt is unusable. Think about it this way, we got scarred tennant, then glasses/blue/trenchcoat twice (11 doctors and toysRus daleks) then finally we got 3d glasses in the doomsday set. After its first release it’s been with glasses, so they probably can’t modify it back. Still begs the question about the spiked tux hair though.

    • XS

      August 10th, 2022 - 5:32pm

Actually, there is another 10th Doctor figure with an updated head/hair sculpt that was released with no glasses. The 10th Doctor in tuxedo figure.

    • XS

      August 10th, 2022 - 5:34pm

Oh yeah, you’ve mentioned it at the end lol xd

  • Major Tom

    August 9th, 2022 - 8:47pm

Disappointed. Really disappointed. There were so many options and this is what they went with? They could’ve re-released the Time Crash Tenth Doctor with the burgundy shirt, the Meta Crisis Doctor could’ve been released.

  • Drwhofan12

    August 9th, 2022 - 8:21pm

Is there anyway of getting a picture of the raggedy dr from this set next to the action figure of the raggedy 11th dr so I can see the difference on the body

Didn’t realise the tie was different! Will give them credit for that, nice detail that they went to the effort to make it match the comic!!

    • Drwhofan12

      August 9th, 2022 - 8:35pm

      Thanks
and pupbenny I didn’t notice until you said
It has more dirt on the new one and it is also a lighter blue

  • Grant P

    August 9th, 2022 - 8:05pm

Oh! Like others a bit disappointed by these will prob only get 10th Dr set if in sale as have couple of them also have all the 8th Dr figures so don’t really want to purchase again for the sake of a bag pleased for mothers who don’t have them as great opportunity to get them hopefully other sets later in year might contain a new companion on plus side no mad rushing around for me yet!

  • Harry

    August 9th, 2022 - 6:23pm

Not really complaining but pity they didn’t do a version of him in his brown suit with navy shirt like he wears in Girl in Fireplace, the series 3 finale or Planet of the Dead. Or maybe a version of his outfit from Silence in Library/Forest of the Dead

  • Dalek Eye Stalk

    August 9th, 2022 - 6:22pm

I think these particular figures won’t sell that well. Haven’t most figure collectors got more than one Tennant figure already.

  • Jevon Robinson

    August 9th, 2022 - 5:43pm

Do the blue suits have pinstripes? I can’t tell

    • booboo

      August 9th, 2022 - 5:46pm

      doesn’t look like it

  • Pupbenny

    August 9th, 2022 - 5:13pm

This all makes me wonder if CO even have the spiked hair 10th mould anymore. When was the last time they used it?

Can only recount three times off the top of my head: End of time injured, tuxedo (ironically he never really had the spiked hair any time he wore that outfit) and the blue suited with glasses from the 11th (or 13th?) Doctors set.

Makes me wonder if they damaged the mould too much with the holes to make it compatible to wear glasses (unnecessarily imo) and hence haven’t used it since.

    • masterdoctorten

      August 9th, 2022 - 6:14pm

The tuxedo head was was plain (no glasses or bruises), and was released laster than the other two. Some said that the tuxedo head was the same mould but some said it was created new in the same look, which would support the theory the mould is gone.

    • Doctor Stu

      August 9th, 2022 - 6:15pm

I’d just like a head that actually looks like David Tenant to be fair.

    • pupbenny

      August 9th, 2022 - 6:38pm

Ahh! I wonder if they have this potential second spiked head mould still in stock.

    • daz

      August 9th, 2022 - 9:55pm

Well, they’ll need a new spiked hair mould if they are gonna try and be screen accurate for the eventual 60th DT figure.

Not buying any of this wave as I have enough 8th/10th Doctor and Dalek variants now.

The money saved has paid for my 9th/10th Doctor Tardis Console excess.

    • the Ergon

      August 9th, 2022 - 10:25pm

If anything these are making me want to seek out some of the original ’10’s more which i foolishly sold on some years ago.

  • BigBen64

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:36pm

I personally think a more accurate description would be:

2x Tenth Doctor figures from the Titan comics (1 with overcoat, 1 without)

1x Tenth Doctor figure from the Runaway Bride (albeit it’s a very brief moment when he takes his jacket off to give to Donna)

    • Doctor Stu

      August 9th, 2022 - 6:17pm

He’s not disheveled and battered though in runway bride it’s literally just eleventh hour Matt with a new head, shameless release. It’s not even a custom anyone would bother making.

  • Slitheen92

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:33pm

Disappointed gotta be honest, so many figures they could re-release, and they choose the same character THREE times that are common even now. Was so hoping for some companions.

  • the Ergon

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:18pm

All those dreaming of a Wilf this year. You can wake up now.

    • Drwhofan12

      August 9th, 2022 - 4:19pm

I was disappointed for a while but at least there is one new 10th dr figure

  • Whovian

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:07pm

I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed

The only figure from this set that I have any interest in, is the “Raggedy” Tenth Doctor figure. Kind of a “What If….?” Doctor Who story

    • DrXshock

      August 9th, 2022 - 4:37pm

Almost reminds me of the original plan to have Tennant stay on for Series 5. Might try and find that figure on its own eventually because of that

    • Elissia

      August 9th, 2022 - 4:43pm

It’s based on 10’s appearance in some comics.

  • the Ergon

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:06pm

If this paves the way for more doctors and companions Nu and classic in 3pack different outfits i,m on board but these choices dont exactly set the precedent or inspire much confidence for future waves. They squandered a good opportunity and a bevy of variants for 10th here.
Forlorn we didn,t get a new Rose, donna and Martha. 3 packs of those, a trio of Clockwork men or Ood might reaffirm my faith in character. Its just as well i,m here for the dalek sets.

  • Alan Silvester

    August 9th, 2022 - 4:02pm

Wow, what a massive disappointment. Nothing to excite or make me want to buy these. No background cards, lazy remoulds, inaccurate painting, lazy three of the same doctor in a box and a price increase. I think CO need to re-think their sales strategy, as you can only take the proverbial for so long. Poor effort, which I think will come back to bite them in terms of sales. I hope the second wave later in the year is an improvement.

  • Judooning

    August 9th, 2022 - 3:49pm

It’ll be good to have some Tennant figures on the shelves with the 60th hype at the moment.
Yeah I’d have loved some companion or monster variants in the set but all 3 figures look nice with crisp paint apps.

  • Dalekz

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:49pm

The raggedy one is different as I think it was originally Matt Smith’s head, the blue suit one is not different enough for me to care and the normal figure is easy to find so a strange set.

  • Drwhofan12

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:33pm

It really is a 10th dr set

  • Drwhofan12

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:31pm

The (raggedy) 10th dr can be deem runaway bride and end of time aswell

  • Liam

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:29pm

Hopefully these sets are more cheaper to make way for more surprises in the next wave… everyone’s always fast to jump on the negative.

    • Drwhofan12

      August 9th, 2022 - 2:30pm

      I agree there

    • pupbenny

      August 9th, 2022 - 2:44pm

      They’re more expensive lol.

    • pupbenny

      August 9th, 2022 - 2:49pm

Oh, you mean cheaply made? That’s a good point, but ultimately having quantity over quality will lose them money in the long run. Especially when they could do variants that people would be more interested in and have waited ages for.

    • Doctor Stu

      August 9th, 2022 - 4:02pm

Nah they’re literally more expensive and there won’t be any surprises, unless the surprise is ‘more of this’.

  • Drwhofan12

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:21pm

At least now we have a 10th dr from sja

  • Anonymous

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:18pm

Not even a slight variation? For example blue suit with red shirt from time crash or silence in the library, could’ve done a brown suit with dark blue shirt from Utopia, all of these are at very little cost

It is nice to have a NOTD 8 re release admittedly, but so much more could have been done with this, even maybe a brown suit with the black converse from rise of the cybermen, these are all incredibly cheap to do and would at least be new variations at the least

  • j

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:17pm

Probably would’ve purchased even if it just had the spiky hair head sculpt from the tuxedo tenth doctor (which is more accurate to the SJA episode). I mean they’ve released the sculpt once, it’s disappointing that they won’t do it again. Hopefully we get a good Tennant figure for the 60th!

  • Callum Eales

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:15pm

They really had so many options to name a few
    Jackie
    New rose
    Prvoville rerelese
    Elder ood
    Wilf
But no 3 10th doctors one a head swap.

    • HS

      August 10th, 2022 - 5:40pm

Mate they definitely don’t have the budget to make any of those brand new figures you suggested. And as much as I’d like one, they’d never make a Jackie Tyler figure xD

  • Ry

    August 9th, 2022 - 2:13pm

I’d love to know the thinking behind the Tenth Doctor set.

I see the appeal of overhauling the decor. The Shakespeare Code variant from the Thirteenth Doctor set was brilliant. The Season 12 Fourth Doctor from last year was done in a similar vein. But I think they’ve missed the mark with this set. No updated headsculpt, no updated arm articulation and whilst a nice decor change, they’ve still gone with the pale blue shirt that we’ve had on every single suited Tenth Doctor bar two (aged and Time Crash figures). Just feels like they’ve stumbled on every conceivable step here. At least if you can’t go with the updated articulation, then use one of the more updated headsculpts, or paint the shirt burgundy to make it look more significantly different. I understand the logic in omitting the pinstripes, as they’re not as visible on the blue suit, but the figure does look strange without them; perhaps if they’d set the precedence from 2006 to omit them it might be different.

And the ragged Tenth Doctor took me a couple of minutes to get and I was an avid reader of the Titan Comics range! The only plus is that they’ve finally got the brown colour right, but it’s ultimately moot because the accompanying two figures are the brown suit.

Ragged figure aside, it’s not an awful decision to release three Tenth Doctors, but there are different levels of appeal, I’d say. The top level would be updated headsculpt and arm articulation across the board. Maybe not as feasible, so the next level would be to produce some new shirt variants. In the end we’ve ended up with a decor update that’s a bit half arsed of what it could have been, even taking into consideration the budgetary constraints.

Using the template of the set I’d have at the very least used the tuxedo or End of Time headsculpt and done an updated decor blue suit and coated variants from Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead. And the third figure would be an updated decor brown suit from Rise of the Cybermen. You could then do a variant set that is the updated decor brown suit and coated variants from Utopia / The Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords, with the third figure being an updated decor blue suit from The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith. That way you get your definitive Tenth Doctor figures out, increase the appeal and duplicate sales with little more than a paint job whilst not forcing the customer to double up. Ideally all with updated arm articulation, which would hopefully be viable with them spanning multiple variants.

Just feels like they’ve missed the mark on every single element in this set. It’s a rare misfire but one I feel will bite them.
