B&M 2021 Earthshock (1982) Figure Set

Character Options is excited to announce a next wave of Doctor Who action figure sets for 2021 with five new lines scheduled to arrive in B&M stores in Mid-October.

The line-up will introduce two more action figure three packs, two further ‘History of the Daleks’ sets, plus a rather splendid “Doctor & TARDIS” set. This new wave includes highly detailed and decorated 5.5 inch scale figures with multiple points of articulation all of which come packaged in the familiar ‘heritage’ style Doctor Who collector packs with specially created insert artwork. Once again these Limited Edition figure sets all bring something fresh to the range be it the characters themselves or variants never released before.

07441 Earthshock (1982) collector figure set
Based on the 1982 story where the Cybermen concoct a devious plan to explode a gigantic bomb on Earth and then launch a full scale invasion, this set features the Fifth Doctor in his slightly muddied attire as well as the twin cybernetic Androids plus the Cyber-Bomb they are guarding. The Androids were very memorable characters and these action figures feature swappable ‘attack’ hand accessories and come complete with the Cyber Bomb itself!

Al Dewar Character Options’ Creative Director said: “I think it is safe to say this swathe of releases is very different from the first release and features some truly unique characters and ‘Big hitters’. This line up represents some of the finest episodes of the Fifth Doctor, Cyber Androids with interchangeable ‘attack’ hands, a Raston Warrior Robot and a new First Doctors TARDIS that’s not just a repaint! In the Daleks sets we have also delivered something new for fans again with some truly nefarious Daleks and the first real ‘army builder’ set. We hope that our fans and followers enjoy them!”

If anyone is in the North-west of England and is still after this set, the Planet of the Daleks set or the Evil of the Daleks set, the B&M at Riverside Retail Park had a few of each in this morning.

They also had stock of the Five Doctors set with Cyber Leader set.

Voord and Sensorites sets were on the shelves in greater numbers and at the lower prices (£12.99 I think)
    Good luck!

I checked Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells this morning, but they only had the two dodgy Doctors, and the Bobblehead Dalek 4-pack and new 6-pack (because the world needs more of these ghastly Dalek bobbleheads…)

B&M Megaloughton Lane, Spondon, Derby has healthy stock of these.

Also History of the Daleks 6, 8, and 1st Doctor & TARDIS, but no Five Doctors set.

Arent they going to have to move those senorite and marinus sets first or will they just mingle with the next wave i wonder? If they are going to have flash sales to get rid its not leaving much time to get the next wave up. I was hoping for Doctor who week but i,m thinking it might be early december+ the way things are going.

Just Curious…why is it that the Dalek sets are only 2 figure’s ?in the past there have been 3 figure sets containing Daleks, even like the Genesis set doctor, davros 2 Daleks, Woolworths used to do even larger figure sets .I understand about keeping costs down also why not produce more of the same release sets keep the scalpers at bay surely they must know what’s going on at character it must affect their profits or maybe they just don’t care, the B&M stores in Southampton,Fareham,& farlington say only 2 sets per customer. sorry had to say about all of this as like many I’m frustrated about availability and selection.

Because character manufacture the sets and deliver them direct as exclusives in the quantities and at a price point that B&M are prepared to order.

What B&M do with them and how they distribute them once delivered has nothing to do with Character themselves to be honest.

      November 8th, 2021 - 9:16am

Limiting 2 sets per customer is good. It stops scalpers.

      November 8th, 2021 - 9:35am

not heard of that, its not a B&M policy.

Many people buy multiples for customs or for friends or to help people out, we do it ourselves.

besides scalpers are pros they will just go in with a loads of mates or family and make multiple visits and clear the shelves anyway, why dont people realise this?

Hey. They do but the most sought after ones get bulk bought and then stuck on eBay for higher prices. On the odd occasion you still have a few of the less desired sets hanging around . Over the last few years all I’ve ever actually bought from Basingstoke was the 2018 wave bar the 3rd Doctor and TARDIS, the Sontarans set and the keys of marinus. Usually after a while they end up going down in price on Amazon where the scalpers are in over their heads . If you can’t find any in Basingstoke, I’d say wait a little bit and you’ll have them for perhaps less than the rrp

If it’s being released effectively as part of the TARDIS range I doubt it’ll have two figures with the Robot. It’ll be one or the other, and more likely a Tom I reckon as a re-release is more likely than a new outfit for Sarah Jane.

My problem with the 3-figure sets is the repetitive figures.
So far this year we have had sets with 2 Sensorite figures, 2 Keys of Marinus figures and now 2 Earthshock Androids.
Why not just release 2-figure sets instead. CO can do variations if they want and perhaps sell more if people want these.

I didn’t mind the 2 Sensorites, and Voord sets as the figures had different accessories and both featured in the episodes, I thought the 2 androids was stretching it a bit, but there were 2 in it so they just about get away with it.

I’d love a Dominators set with a Dominator and two quarks be a superb set and maybe the drill and a dulcian laser rifle thrown in. If they did one set with Rago and one with Toba that would be even better.

Its feasible with same outfit, big shoulderpads and 2 separate head sculpts using Axon man body AGAIN. If not quark with with zoe and tully in matching dresses.

      October 13th, 2021 - 2:54pm

According to B&M every store had stock – so the question is, are they lying? If not what happened to the stock? Did they only get a box and it disappeared quick.

    • Spacewarp

      October 19th, 2021 - 12:51pm

There are 4 Home stores within driving distance of me that hold Dr Who stock, and they are very slow movers. Apart from the TARDISes, but I think that’s simply because they’re so big each store only has about 3 or 4 of them. The 3-sets and 2-sets seem to linger on the shelves for weeks. Only last week I dropped into one store and found loads of Marinus, Sensorites, and Power Dalek sets still on shelves.

There was a comment from Tottenham that someone had been seen walking in at 8am and buying the whole shelf-full. This makes me think that some areas have very active scalpers, resulting in almost permanently empty shelves; whereas others (my county for example) have none.

I’m also 100% certain that these forums are frequented by ebay sellers!

    • booboo

      October 19th, 2021 - 1:09pm

and i’m a 100% certain what we do helps genuine collectors locate stock way over ebay sellers, Big eBayers are pros, they dont need us for their info, they do it for a living and not just Doctor Who stuff.

Its also Amazon sellers and even shops that clear shelves and it doesn’t take a genius to work that out.

    • Independently Cross

      November 2nd, 2021 - 12:49am

Yep. Not that I hope anybody is suggesting it; but the solution to some people abusing access to information isn’t restricting access to all those who use it in the spirit it’s intended. Knowledge of where/when to source these, even if it sometimes helps those who create difficulties for us, helps more of us counter the actions of resellers who would be a hindrance no matter what. It’s inevitable that ‘professional’s would access the resources we do for information because their literal ‘ job’ in this instance is to access our resources- but this site and stock reports do far, far more good in helping us, in bigger numbers, in what’s now a massively difficult task, than being left to our own devices without the information resellers would have regardless. (Not that, personally, I think/hope anybody mentioning ‘scalpers’ using stock reports is a criticism of the source of information- more likely just people thinking aloud who are still massively grateful for that source.)

    • Jay

      October 9th, 2021 - 1:37pm

Yes Ergon, I would have liked anything but another 5th doctor, and a Nyssa, Adric or Tegan figure would have been amazing. But as you say I’m sure they will be done at some point.

  • TimelordTim

    Unpopular opinion alert!

Looking at the 3-figure B&M sets this year my overall thoughts on them are ones of being underwhelmed.

Let me clarify, this is for the 3-packs only, I don’t get the TARDIS or Dalek sets so won’t comment on them.

Also, note I say “underwhelmed” and not “disappointed”.

The reason for this clarification, well, the sets are still of a high standard for the budget range and provide characters some people are really excited about, so I’m happy for that.

But they underwhelm me by a lack of variation. Last year had so many new head sculpts to bring us so many new companions but this year they’ve been limited to Ian and 4 “monsters” using 3 head sculpts and generally the same body, they are pretty monotone as well. This alongside more 1st, 3rd and 5th Doctors and Cybermen not too dissimilar to previous releases.

There are also “only” 4 sets of 3-packs this year as opposed to 6.

So overall, I find this years 3-packs underwhelming.

I understand this will all be to save costs, and it’s great they can still do what they do under such constraints.

But I hope the seemingly reduced variation and number of sets this year is due to COVID related cost saving and not a sign that the line is declining in popularity, and therefore profit margins to work with!

An Adric or Ainley Master would’ve been all that was needed to make this year’s releases much more impressive.

I know I’ll get plenty of people saying I’m wrong, but this is just my opinion.

Think you have hit the nail on the head to be honest, that and far less overall production because no USA or Australian Sales which will increase cost per set.

I think to keep the sets sub £20 something had to give a bit this year, if they could have done better within budget I’m sure they would have.

    • TimelordTim

      October 8th, 2021 - 5:29pm

Thanks for your reply Booboo, and I agree entirely. I’m sure, as fans themselves, they want to produce more, let’s just hope they can in the next year or two if things pick up again.

    • Jack

      October 8th, 2021 - 9:24pm

Agree 100% – I was really hoping for an Ainley Master (with embroidered collar) in the Five Doctors set, and Adric for Earthshock.

    • Slitheen71

      October 9th, 2021 - 3:11am

I get the fact that the re-use of the same body on all this year’s aliens could be seen as drop of originality. I do hope character has taken note that they sold 4000 2nd doctor sets for £39.99 in just over a week and have big plans for online exclusives for 2022. Underwhelming is apt for this set because the 5th doctors era is so lacking in figures we want and we keep getting the 5th Doctor, this is his 12th release. The androids are nice but when the names of these sets were leaked I started dreaming of filling those 5th Doctor era gaps.
These budget sets still surprise me though with what they can do to 19.99, adding the bomb and interchangeable hands for the androids for the price.

    • the ergon

      October 9th, 2021 - 10:30am

I was looking and sorting through some of my still boxed sets last week Slitheen 71 and i had 6 5th doctors some of which i,d forgotten about and 4 1st doctors. All with minor differences. A little something different would make all the difference. If they have to release 5th again. Please put him in his harlequin outfit, in omega outfit, Seabase outfit or even in waistcoat from Planet of fire. Just not more variations on the same. Accessory wise not had so much as a cricket bat or ball.

    • TimelordTim

      October 9th, 2021 - 4:37pm

Hi Coleman, yep, I’ve been checking but holding back on commenting on these until I had time to truly consider them. But eventually came to the conclusions as written above.

I may get a single Sensorite and Ian when cheap enough on eBay. Or pick up their sets if they disappointingly don’t sell well enough and again get reduced in B&M. But otherwise, it’s nothing to interest me in all the B&M sets this year unfortunately.
