Big Finish Torchwood 65 Death In Venice

Available to order from www.bigfinish.com

An Ace Torchwood Adventure!

Dorothy ‘Ace’ McShane is back and she’s got work to do in a brand-new full-cast audio drama from the Torchwood monthly range, due for release in September 2022.

Ahead of her highly-anticipated TV appearance in the centenary Doctor Who special this autumn, Sophie Aldred returns to voice the classic companion in Torchwood: Death In Venice. Ace is once again seeking help from Torchwood Three’s Mr Colchester, played by Paul Clayton (Doctor Who, Peep Show, Him & Her), having previously encountered him in 2021’s The Red List.

Torchwood: Death In Venice, written by James Goss, is available to pre-order as a collector’s edition CD (+ download for just £10.99) or digital download only (for just £8.99), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.

Dorothy McShane once travelled with the Doctor. She misses those days. Sure, she still saves the world, but less by beating up Daleks and catapulting Cybermen and more through running a massively successful charity.

Only, she’s on the run for her life and her charity is in trouble. Someone wants Dorothy dead. And Torchwood are coming to the rescue. Can Mr Colchester keep her safe on the magical streets of Venice?

Sophie Aldred said: “You cannot imagine just how much fun it is to be returning not only to the best job of my life at Doctor Who, but also to branch out once more into Torchwood with the incomparable Paul Clayton. I could quite happily listen to him all day… wait, there, I did! Lucky me.”

Paul Clayton added: “It’s always a huge treat when a new Big Finish script drops into my inbox. The writers are so clever at creating new and exciting adventures for familiar characters.

“To find that Mr Colchester was going to have more adventures teamed with Ace was absolutely magical. Sophie is just the most gorgeous actress to work with and there’s a beautiful, simple truth about her work. In the space of barely two stories Colchester and Ace have created a magical chemistry. It’s a joy to be part of.”

Torchwood: Death In Venice is available to pre-order for just £10.99 (collector’s edition CD + download) or £8.99 (digital download only), exclusively from the Big Finish website.

Big Finish listeners can save money by purchasing this title in a six-release bundle for just £60 (collector’s edition CD + download) or £50 (download only). A whole year’s worth of adventures can also be bought together in a bundle for just £110 (collector’s edition CD + download) or £94 (download only).

Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mail-out of collector’s edition CDs may be delayed due to factors beyond our control, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

I think it’s so bad what they’ve done to him. I could understand if allegations of misconduct came out and they had to act. But this is a load of people already knowing about the japes he had on set that made people laugh, not having any issue with it at all because of how harmless it was and then deciding to suddenly pretend they’re outrageously offended because the Twittersphere has told them to be.

It’s mad that this man has been cancelled by everyone and wiped from Doctor who and torchwood.

It’s like being cheeky to a teacher, them laughing it off and then 5 years later you’re told ‘actually someone said that wasn’t funny when you were cheeky to me that one time even though i didn’t care at all so even though it’s been years and years you’re now getting put in detention.’

And Russell’s silence on it is irritating as well and then there’s eve Myles and Gareth David Lloyd, they should be sticking up for him because they’ve all admitted to joining in with it in the past. Same with Billie piper.

Eve hasn’t done a audio since 2019. And it was recorded in January 2018!

I don’t think Ace is a replacement, just a device to generate interest and add something extra to the scripts. As for Barrowman, I can’t imagine BF sitting on that 10th Doctor play forever. Regarding Doctor Stu’s post, I saw a comment on YouTube comparing JB to Saville and castigating RTD for not condemning him! That was probably someone still upset about Ianto’s death but I was surprised anyone could think that way.

Dr stu not everyone on set would be laughing. Would you find it funny if someone did what he did in front of say your sister, daughter, wife etc. Many people did not find it funny. But as usual they were too scared to say anything. Frankly his behaviour was out of order. I met him once and his antics left me uncomfortable.

I wonder if BF is bracing for the centenary special implying that Ace and Tegan *never* met the Doctor after TV, basically negating more of their stories (and Sophie Aldred’s book for that matter) and needing to do more canon bending.

About time we got jack back. It’s a bit boring them trying to make torchwood without any of the actual cast

Lol the audios with Jack are some of the weakest BF have put out, and his involvement in The Story Continues was basically irrelevant

Yeah, I’m confused at how this is in any way Torchwood.

@Doctor stu How do you mean “without any of the actual cast”? David-Lloyd, Owen, Price and Mori are in them all the time? Murray Melvin’s turning into a regular, too.

@pupbenny Colchester is a part of BF’s Torchwood roster so I regard this play as completely legitimate. The Doctor Who universe has been full of spin-offs and spin-offs of spin-offs for decades now.

Without any of the actual cast ? This year alone we’ve had audios with Tom Price, Kai Owen, Naoko Mori, Gareth David-Lloyd (later this year) and Murray Melvin – all members of the original tv cast. Plus Burn Gorman still does audios although he’s fairly big in the US. It’s only John and Eve who don’t really because Eve doesn’t want to anymore and the BBC have told Big Finish not to release AF/work with John currently.
