Big Finish The Ninth Doctor Adventures 2.2 Into the Stars
Available to order from www.bigfinish.com
The Ninth Doctor v Sontarans!
Story details are revealed for three brand-new full-cast audio adventures for the Ninth Doctor from Big Finish Productions, including the return of the Sontarans.
Christopher Eccleston stars in Doctor Who – The Ninth Adventures: Into the Stars, due for release in August 2022.
Leaving Earth behind for his next box set of audio dramas, the Ninth Doctor meets the Sontarans, but not as we know them – because they’ve evolved. Doctor Who’s most warmongering race have taken up gardening and developed a particular fondness for music!
Christopher Eccleston said: “The Sontarans are my favourite enemies of Doctor Who and I love this story. The idea of the most evil creature in the galaxy having an off-shoot which is the most peaceful, innocent, and loving is immensely moving and funny.”
Alongside the Sontarans, these audio adventures also pit the Ninth Doctor against an ancient trickster by the name of Jack Frost, and a circle of gamblers determined to beat the odds at any cost.
The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Into the Stars is now available to pre-order as a collector’s edition 4-disc CD box set (+ download for just £24.99) or a digital download only (for just £19.99) from www.bigfinish.com.
Distant worlds, alien cultures, vessels of exploration – the Doctor is never more at home than when he’s out among the stars.
But that’s where travellers face the greatest dangers, and where the Doctor’s help is needed most…
The three explosive stories in this box set are:
Salvation Nine by Timothy X Atack
- The Doctor happens upon an unusual outpost – and discovers it is about to be annihilated. To save Salvation Nine, he must rally a people for whom war is an alien concept – and protect the future of the Sontaran race!
Last Of The Zetacene by James Kettle
- The rich and the criminal rub shoulders on Stage Three spaceport – and play high-stakes games for valuable prizes. The Doctor is always interested in endangered species, and the Zetacene is more endangered than most…
Break The Ice by Tim Foley
- On a chilly space station, the Doctor meets a group of scientists experimenting with cryogenics. But when one subject returns from extreme sub-zero temperatures, he does not return alone. A creature awakens that can freeze the soul with icy fingers – Jack Frost!
Producer David Richardson said: “The wonderful thing about Doctor Who is that there are so many tones and styles you can play with. If the previous Ninth Doctor box set was laced with heady emotions, then this one goes for fun and fear, running the spectrum between broad laugh out loud comedy and dark claustrophobic terror.”
The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Into the Stars is now available to pre-order for just £24.99 (collector’s edition 4-disc CD box set + download) or £19.99 (download only) from the Big Finish website.
Big Finish listeners can save money by pre-ordering all four volumes of The Ninth Doctor Adventures series two together in a bundle at £88 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £78 (download only).

June 8th, 2022 - 11:18pmThe fact that Chris is doing Big Finish suggests it was easy money for an actor to make during lockdown (We don’t know exactly when these were produced) so knowing he’d be ‘facing’ Sontarans it’s not out of the question that he’d perhaps watch a couple of Sontaran stories as prep for this.
It’s great he’s doing these by the way. Just need Peter Capaldi onside now.

June 8th, 2022 - 11:20pmSorry, this wasn’t supposed to be a standalone comment. In my head i was replying to Prof Litefoot.

June 1st, 2022 - 8:36pmI’d like him to do a box set with Billie Piper.

June 5th, 2022 - 11:30pmMe too but sadly I’m not getting hopes up for it. Hopefully since Billie has recorded recently, 3 or 4 will feature her, but I don’t think they’d do Rose halfway through Series 2 of this range.
Ben Miller
June 1st, 2022 - 8:05pmI hope he does get the chance to face Sutekh in either the second or third volume of the second series of The Ninth Doctor Adventures

May 31st, 2022 - 4:29pmChris talking about the sontarans this way is super suspect. Famously, he didn’t watch Doctor Who as a child except for regenerations and when they showed the inside of a Dalek, and he openly doesn’t watch any of the new stuff. I’m extremely curious as to how he developed such a strong opinion on… the sontarans, of all things. Deeply weird.

May 31st, 2022 - 5:35pmYeah, it weird, isn’t it? Almost as though he’s trying to take an interest in his job…

May 31st, 2022 - 5:57pmIn interviews when he was cast as The Doctor back in 2004 he seemingly considers the Sontarans as being one of the things that stuck out to him from seeing Doctor Who on TV. Idk if I’m allowed to post links (will send another comment immediately after with the link if so) but there’s a video on YouTube called ‘BBC Breakfast with Christopher Eccleston’ where (at 7:36 into the interview) he says the Sontarans were the ones that frightened him the most. The fact that his immediate response back in 2004 to ‘Are there going to be old enemies’ is to mention the Sontarans even though they never appeared in his era I guess backs up him calling them his favourite enemy.

June 1st, 2022 - 1:40amOh interesting, never seen that before. Still strikes as a bit strange, but I guess there’s precedent.
