Available to order from www.bigfinish.com
The Doctor and Susan visit the Union
Cover artwork and story details are today revealed for the second of October’s full-cast audio adventures in the Once and Future series, from Big Finish Productions. “Grandfather. Help me! Come to the Diamond Array.”
Back to the beginning, or is it the end? Old friends and enemies shall gather, and answers are promised. But first, a family reunion… and the Union. The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), his granddaughter Susan (Carole Ann Ford) and his future wife River (Alex Kingston) face an unimaginable threat together in The Union, the climactic seventh episode of the 60th anniversary Doctor Who audio drama, Once and Future.
The Doctor responds to a distress call from his granddaughter, Susan, taking him to the Diamond Array: a huge multidimensional space station. Once there, his instability increases, as the Fourth and Eighth Doctors discover the Array’s terrible purpose. Meanwhile, River Song has made a deadly alliance to try to save her husband. And the truth about the Doctor’s degeneration will finally be revealed. Doctor Who – Once and Future: The Union, written by Matt Fitton, is now available to pre- order as a single-disc collector’s edition CD (+ download for just £10.99), or digital download only (for just £8.99), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.
Actor Alex Kingston said: “I used to love Doctor Who as a child. I would watch it through a crack in the door from the hallway because I thought it was too scary. “I never expected when I first signed up to be in a two episode storyline way back when that I’d still be doing it today on this incredible journey. It’s wonderful to know that the series has brought so much joy to so many people all over the world.”
Actor Paul McGann added: “Can you believe it? It seems like was yesterday it was the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. What happens to the time? Even for Time Lords it’s just a shock. “Is there another series that’s still out there? Of course, it hasn’t been continuous (in one sense), but it’s still here. It’s survived. And I think that’s due, in large part, to the people who love it keeping it going. Good for them!”
Big Finish listeners can purchase all eight Once and Future audio adventures together in a bundle for just £72 (on collector’s edition CD and download) or £60 (download only). A special edition series bundle, which contains extended behind-the-scenes extras and music suites for each story, is also available to pre-order for just £62 (as a digital download only). All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.
Please note that Big Finish is currently operating a digital-first release schedule. The mailout of collector’s edition CDs will be delayed, but all purchases of this release unlock a digital copy that can be immediately downloaded or played on the Big Finish app from the release date.

March 19th, 2024 - 10:57amI’m sorry to keep harping-on about this – I’m beginning to bore myself – but am I the only one who thinks it is about time Big Finish gave us a proper explanation about why we have still not received parts 6 and 7 of this series on CD? It’s now 5 months since the downloads were made available and over 2 months since the last BF update. Having spent around £70 for this series, am I ever going to receive the CD’s? It just seems to have been forgotten by BF. Does anyone know what is going on, please?

March 19th, 2024 - 4:00pmAt this point, unless there’s a new status update, I expect us to receive all the remaining CDs in November, when the last part will be released.

November 14th, 2023 - 4:53pmSo the 8th one comes out in November 2024, that’s what it says on Big Finish website, we have to wait a whole year for 1 more part? But it finishes here so I have no idea what is going on

December 5th, 2023 - 3:24pmIt’s a coda, so a follow up of sorts.

October 4th, 2023 - 8:53pmI agree that the degeneration thing feels a bit clunky, but I’ve enjoyed them all so far as standalone stories. Might have been better to do it as a “What if…” rather than shoehorn it all to the already-crowded Time War arc.

October 2nd, 2023 - 10:06amSadly feel the same, Neil. Just seems very disjointed, as though the “degeneration” thread was simply jammed into stories already written, and random characters forced in as per the availability of the actors – regardless of whether it makes any kind of sense or not. Definitely not one of BF’s finest hours – it’s all been a bit of a mess. And the distribution and printing issues haven’t helped. Having received some of the “limited edition” CD’s, I wouldn’t have shelled out over £70 if the initial description of what was on offer had been more accurate. I don’t call a fold-out cover a “booklet”, the “standard” covers should have been included and maybe a nice 60th anniversary box to put all the individual CD’s in. A missed opportunity.

September 30th, 2023 - 1:45pmGreat to see Carole Ann Ford back as Susan! Be interesting to find out what’s behind all the degeneration stuff, but have a feeling that overall this series promised more than it has actually delivered.
