Big Finish – Jago and Litefoot Series Fourteen

Lite-footing it into adventure!

It’s back through the streets of London with the devilishly daring duo of Jago and Litefoot in Series 14 o their astounding audio adventures from Big Finish Productions.

In 2010, Doctor Who’s own Henry Gordon Jago (Christopher Benjamin) and Professor George Litefoot (Trevor Baxter) embarked on a series of brand new adventures for Big Finish, solving mysteries involving paranormal and supernatural phenomena in Victorian London, with assistance from barmaid Ellie Higson (Lisa Bowerman) and the dependable Sergeant Quick (Conrad Asquith).

Over seven years, they racked up a total of sixteen series plus assorted extra adventures. In June 2021, four freshly-minted fictions for the Infernal Investigators will be released, featuring secret organisations, undercover arms of the law, fanciful parties and a Christmas pantomime to remember. Originally scripted as full-cast audio dramas, these tales have been adapted into audiobooks, each to be performed by a single voice actor, due to the great Trevor Baxter’s sad passing in 2017.

The performers are Christopher Benjamin (Doctor Who, The Avengers), Lisa Bowerman (Bernice Summerfield, Casualty), Jamie Newall (Sherlock Holmes, The Eighth Doctor Adventures) and Duncan Wisbey (Torchwood, Iris Wildthyme).Jago and Litefoot: Series 14 is now available to pre-order as a digital download only (at £17.99), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com

The stories included in the series are as follows:

The Red Hand by Simon Barnard and Paul Morris, adapted by Paul Morris

Returning home from their voyage to a parallel world, Jago and Litefoot find that things aren’t quite as they left them. There’s a terrifying new chief inspector, their closest friends have turned against them, and there’s something that neither of them can remember. Their only hope to understanding their strange new world lies with a shadowy organisation called the Red Hand.

The Laughing Policeman by Jonathan Barnes, adapted by Julian Richards

Inspector Gilhooey is used to dealing with mundane crimes, but he’s been given a new assignment, to root out enemies ofthe state. His investigations have led him to the Temperance Hall, where the Cotterill siblings are giving a seditious speech. However, Gilhooey discovers that the Cotterills aren’t the only disloyal duo in attendance, there are two more traitors in the crowd: traitors called Jago and Litefoot!

The Corridors of Power by Paul Morris, adapted by Paul Morris

In order to get closer to the truth of what’s happened to the world, Jago and Litefoot are forced to split up. While Litefoot finds himself mixing with high society, Jago has to find a way to reach his friend, as the professor is trapped in a party that seems to never end…

A Command Performance by Justin Richards and Julian Richards, adapted by Julian Richards

It’s time for the Christmas Day pantomime at the New Regency Theatre. Jago’s more stressed than usual. Not only has he got to deal with a packed house, messy stagehands, and peculiar acts, but there’s a VIP coming. The problem is, this particular VIP can’t possibly be coming, for one simple reason.

They’re dead.Jago & Litefoot: Series 14 is now available to pre-order as a digital download only (at £17.99), exclusively at the Big Finish website.

I agree with others that it’s a real shame that it’s not out on cd perhaps a mp3 version cd because of its 8 hours and to reduce material costs and plastic.
I do feel somewhat let down by the download only decision especially to all those that followed the series from the start and followed it through to the end by purchasing the cd box sets not to complete and complement the existing collection and also an acknowledgement and thank you to those that did.
I wonder with the current problems not only by COVID but more long term having left the EU block with pressing of physical releases in the future that a more premature decision be made to go completely download sooner than was originally planned ?.

You mean like The Jago and Litefoot Revival short trips?
      That would have been cool.

Same as everybody else wish that there was a CD set as I still adore physical media.
As its not on disk I wont be getting it as I want something to hold in my hand for £18.

Since I’ve switched to just downloads, I find I’m actually listening to the stories sooner now rather than just putting them on the shelf, plus I just don’t have the room for any more CD’s anyway, so I’m happy with this release.
Give the Big Finish player a try if you haven’t yet, it’s free to add to your phone and if you’ve ever bought from them directly you’ll find digital copies of those stories sat on your account already. Enjoy 🙂

If it helps its 8 hours of content – double that of a regular boxset. Something i feel they should be advertising more really. Thats £2.25 an hour which you would be hard pressed to call that bad value.

It sounds like this will be a one off just releasing the scripts that they sadly couldn’t make due to the passing of Trevor Baxter. The only thing is I wish there was a physical release

Not interested if it’s not a full cast audio. I also think £18 for just an audio file is a bit of a dip off!

£18 for 480 minutes of audio is great value when you take into account how much it costs to make audio drama. Everybody involved from the cast, writers, producers etc all need to get paid as well as it being a licensed drama. It all costs.

It baffles me that people criticise big finish for selling an 8 hour drama but are willing to give them a pass when they sell a 1 hour drama and charge £10 for it

My son works for Bastei Lubbe in Germany, and they make Audio dramas, full cast and readings. The Hours that goes into making an audio drama, putting the Dialog in order with spaces for sound effects, music, etc. To sound like BF makes it look easy, it’s not. It’s ultimate skill.

I too would have loved a physical release , but the Discs and plastic and paper, are so not good for planet Earth.

Next time you download an album for £9,99,and find its 40 Mins, .

It’s the sound that counts, and I think we need to get on board more with download.

I total agree but physical cds are so much better than just download. With download you dont feel like you own it while a cd you actually have it in your hands. So CDs, DVDs and Blu Ray’s will always beat downloads for me

I’ve never had a dip off. Any good?

Sixteen series made me do a double take!! but assume its a typo

Brilliant news though. Bar a few treats here and there, never thought we would get more Jago & Lightfoot.

Would have loved a LTD CD set but since CDs are not happening at the moment anyway, it seems irrelevant .

    Lovely.
