Big Finish is delighted to confirm that a strictly limited quantity of Character Options Big Finish-inspired Doctor Who action figures are now for sale from www.bigfinish.com.

Big Finish listeners and fans of Doctor Who toys were delighted by the announcement in June that three sets of Big Finish Character Options action figures would be available from B&M retail stores in the UK this summer.

The Dalek is a Whitish Eye and the 8th Doctor Shoes are Black in the Big Finish exclusive sets…

The full 2019 line of collectable Doctor Who figures and sets were unveiled on Character Options’ own YouTube channel [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShHZtC_9au0&t=6s] in an unboxing-style video presented by the firm’s Creative Director, Al Dewar.

And now that the three sets have been fully revealed, as a treat for Big Finish listeners, a limited supply are available to buy from www.bigfinish.com. These figures are available for both UK and overseas customers. But be quick! Once they are gone, they’re gone!

Amongst these great new collectables, the three unique Doctor and Dalek twin packs inspired by Big Finish stories are:

The Eighth Doctor and Dalek Interrogator Prime Action Figure Set – showing the fully articulated Doctor dressed in jeans and double breasted jacket from Dark Eyes, plus an Interrogator Dalek which the Eighth Doctor faces in the Time War.

The War Doctor and Dalek Scientist Action Figure Set – containing the Doctor as played by John Hurt in the War Doctor audio episodes, whilst the Dalek included is a scientist and works independently of High Command.

The Seventh Doctor and Axis Strike Squad Dalek Action Figure Set – featuring the Time Lord as played by Sylvester McCoy in the Gallifrey VI series with one of the bronze Daleks that have taken over the AXIS.

Nicholas Briggs, executive producer of Big Finish, told us how he felt about Big Finish’s first action figures: “There’s something magical about the Character Options Doctor Who figures, and not just because I bought boxes and boxes of them for my son! I’ve always felt that they were made with great love and with the fans in mind – much like Big Finish stories.

“Al Dewar from Character Options and I have kept up a dialogue, virtually since Doctor Who returned to TV back in 2005, so it’s really great that this has finally come together. What do you mean, you don’t believe I bought the figures for my son? I mean, I’ve never played with them myself… never… ever… Well, maybe there was just that one time…”

Jason Haigh-Ellery, executive producer of Big Finish, added: “Thanks to Character Options we finally have action figures representing characterisations of the Doctor as heard in Big Finish’s audio drama. I was very excited to see these first sets take shape, and I look forward to seeing many more in the future!”

Al Dewar commented: “It was huge fun to reveal by video the entire new collection. We are incredibly proud of this summer 2019 line up and believe that the fans will be equally delighted with each product that is to be launched. Our loyal following of collectors are always keen to gain a first glimpse of what’s new and doing this in such a personal style was important to us. The next stage is to see the range in stores!”

The three Big Finish-inspired sets are now available in a very limited supply. They are available ONLY as a bundle together priced at just £59.99, with an additional £10 courier shipping fee for the UK, or £30 for overseas shipping.

These sets are strictly limited to ONE per customer.

For those who reside in the UK, these sets will also be available from your local B&M retail store later this month.

I’m legitimately disappointed that I missed these. I love the Big Finish costumes, the Eight Doctor especially looks really cool. I’d love to see a Big Finish Derek Jacobi War Master, that would be awesome!

Am I right in saying they’ve taken away articulation in new releases? Do these figures still have ball-jointed shoulders or have they reverted to the older hinge set up?

I found all of the sets in a branch of B&M – not even knowing they existed, whilst looking for something totally different. Did I grab them and forget my original objective? Hell, yes. Not bothered about limited editions – last one of those I bought was the Doctor’s 9th incarnation with the green shirt – just glad to finally get a Harry Sullivan figure, and the ‘Shada’ TARDIS.

Pick up the last 8th Doctor set on the shelf from the B&M store at Lakeside, Essex. They still have a couple of the War Doctor sets and half a dozen of the 7th Doctor sets on the shelves though..

Will we get a golden Emperor Dalek from the comics and audios, because it’s been a Dalek wanted by fans for years! Problem is it would all be new moulding except for the arms 🙁

Actually kinda glad I missed out on these BF sets now, as the differences are so minor and the only one of the three that actually seems an improvement is the 7th Dr set, as the more burgandy/darker sweater looks better than the more reddish colour of the mass release version.

This 8th Doctor figure in particular is LESS accurate, as in all Dark Eyes/Doom Coalition photos, it’s pretty clear the 8th Doctor is wearing light brown shoes, not black. So C/O have purposely created a less accurate variant just for the sake of doing something different for the BF exclusive releases.

SOLD OUT! And those who DON”T reside in the UK who wanted these can get ready for the royal screwing we’ll take buying them on eBay UK and Amazon UK. Same with the later stock on B&M shelves. We really are back to “Wilderness Years” level screwing to get collectibles if we live outside the UK. Years of business and loyalty rewarded like this. Thanks again BF and CO.

The BF sets were available to be posted overseas, and as for the B&M sets they are just sold in shop so where it’s sold can’t be helped.

      August 13th, 2019 - 5:35am

About 500 made available through the BF website might have helped, though. That would have given more non UK fans an opportunity to get these without the “Royal Screwing”. Royal screwing means the completely unfair prices that will have to be paid for anyone not among the special 150. And yes, if you can’t tell, I’m sorry too. Perhaps I should have capped my spending on each company’s products at $150.00? Being a loyal customer since that first fateful audio cassette of “The Sirens Of Time” obviously means nothing to BF, and I got that message loud and clear.

I sympathise with people in the USA however there is another side to this.

Presumably Seven20 (ex UT) screwed Character with the last 12th Doctor figures etc and with their “go it alone” stance ( and we have all seen the abomination that produced ) effectively stopped any chance of these figures getting to the USA on mass with BBC licensing restriction.

perhaps some of the anger vented at big finish should be shared around a little.

If Big finish had say 1000 unit to ship overseas only UK buyers would kick up a stink, not everyone lives near a B&M.

I cant see B&M wanting to share these in large quantities anyway would defeat the object of their existence in the 1st place.

      August 14th, 2019 - 4:18am

I don’t want to hate anyone, they are just doing their job, but booboo you do have a point. Sucks what seven20 have put out. Plus it was cheaper to buy the CO 13th doctor figure from the UK anyway.

Really upset about such a limited amount. Why not 1000 as someone else said? Why can’t there be some set aside for international buyers? I’m not BF, they obviously have their own plans, but really, really saddened by this.

      August 14th, 2019 - 8:31am

There was only ever 150 of each set. There were always going to disappointed customers. I’ve been a loyal BF customer for many years, even BEEN on a couple of the discs, and I missed out on these. There’s too much vitriol being poured out to BF. They’re a small company doing their best. Well done to those who got them, commiserations to those that didn’t, but that’s the way it goes. Big Finish didn’t do anything to anyone personally.

    • Bob James

      August 16th, 2019 - 5:15am

MJS, Big Finish best just wasn’t good enough. And though you might be right about their being a small company, they’ve proved to me that they must regard myself and non UK customers as even smaller than they are. There is no excuse for this, none. I’m going to quiet down now, take the bath I’m going to have to take to get my Eighth Doctor/Interrogator Dalek set on Amazon UK or eBay UK and get over it. Then both Character and Big Finish can get over me no longer being a customer. I’m sure they’ll find that easier than I will, as they’ll retain the only customers that seem to matter to them. It’s only some meaningless fans that have to do without what they wanted.

    • Cyberman Bill

      August 19th, 2019 - 12:51pm

@ Bob…. Relax…. it is what it is. Your argument had no merit!! I live in the US and I will have to settle getting the regular B&M releases. But it’s not “Settling!”…(that almost sounds like I was ENTITLED to be able to get one of the limited releases and we all know that no one is ENTITLED to anything). I collect everything you related that is Doctor Who and I have every Character Options figure that was released even some that weren’t (Prototypes, etc). I’m a completionist. You would think I would be upset that I’m not getting the limited sets but I didn’t pay attention that they went on sale so that’s on me…it’s my fault not any companies fault! Somewhere in the future I may be able to pick up one or all of the limited releases. Until then I’ll be very happy with getting all of the B&M releases added to my collection. As for your argument?… hmm? Where have I heard that before…. hmm?? Pretty much any time they release a Doctor Who item ONLY in the USA and not the UK. You would here people complain like you and Say it’s not fair that a British show releases these things only in the USA!… There have been quite a few, including several figures people wanted (in the US we got some figures in abundance that became peg warmers and sold for pretty cheap while all the while in the UK they were lucky to find just 1 of these figures but would mostly find nothing figures like the 8th Doctor, War Doctor, 13 Doctors set, Dalek Sex re- release just to name a few and not to mention the UT releases only for the US or the Diamond Packaging, etc.). So, we in the US have had it better at times but you weren’t complaining them or saying your done with a company and leaving (even though they had nothing to do with why your upset!)
Anyway.. I’ve went on way too much but I’m getting sick of people complaining and blaming Big Finish or Character Options for something that they should really be blaming themselves for! The conceit of entitlement that some people have just boggle the mind!! It’s ok to be upset that you missed out but some of you all are getting ridiculously way out of hand. If you want to stop being a customer you have every right to do that (and you’re right, Character wouldn’t even notice or care). I just feel people need to take a deep breath and relax. There will be plenty of stock, even for us Americans, of the regular release, that you will be able to get everyone of these sets you want added to your collection. Now that sounds like something that should he celebrated and not condemned!!

    • Bob James

      August 19th, 2019 - 11:48pm

Cyberman Bill, I’m not at all claiming an entitlement, and my ire has nothing to do with having to have the limited Big Finish sets. The bundle was my only opportunity to AFFORD all three sets, as the reseller/scalper prices that have and will come to eBay UK and Amazon UK will limit me to just being able to get my “must have” Eighth Doctor/Interrogator Dalek set, even considering the B&M stock. There should have been the consideration that with no international distributor for Character, Big Finish should have been allotted much more on hand stock for international buyers. Otherwise these come and go with a lot of people having to do without. When I add the Fifth Doctor/Tardis (COA) set, and the Sontaran set (with that long overdue Harry Sullivan figure) to my wishlist, I’ll be spending three times as much as the bundle would have cost. I stand by my conviction here. Badly, poorly handled on the part of both Big Finish and Character.

    • MJS

      August 20th, 2019 - 8:48am

Bob, you’re being particularly harsh on BF, but even they asked that customers buy the B&M versions so international customers can buy straight from them.
I get your frustration. But it’s happened. A LOT of people missed out. I hope you manage to source the B&M versions which will be just as good as the BF ltd eds.

    • Bob James

      August 20th, 2019 - 2:38pm

I do as well. These “little” things mean a lot to fans/collectors, and I hope that any international fans wanting any or all of these sets can get them without too much of a financial bloodletting. Character has a history of bad judgement that has repeatedly led to bad decisions leading to more bad judgement. It seems to me that, even extending to former US distributor Underground Toys, the greed present has driven these companies to self sabotaging, when meeting fans expectations and to some extent, demands, would have made for considerable profits and collector satisfaction well enough. I just can’t get past feeling that both companies just cared too little to do better. It’s a small comfort though, to know that with the grossly inflated reseller/scalper prices being thrown out there, Character and Big Finish aren’t going to see a profit from it anyway.

    • Bob James

      August 25th, 2019 - 4:52am

Okay. Looks like getting these sets, including the non Big Finish Doctor and Tardis sets are shaking out to about $82.00 USD (including shipping) each from sellers in the UK who will ship internationally. A sizable number won’t. So far, I’ve secured the Eighth Doctor/Interrogator Prime Dalek set as well as the Doctor/Tardis sets for the Fourth and Fifth Doctors. I’m still searching out the Sontarans set that includes that awesome Harry Sullivan figure, though this one so far seems scarce. So, shop around Stateside fans, as this is still a bath, but not quite the bath I know I feared. Happy hunting!

    • Bob James

      August 25th, 2019 - 5:31pm

$404.87 USD later, and I’ve got all the new Character/Big Finish/B&M Doctor Who figure sets I wanted. Collecting was never such a bloodletting, and this will end such endeavors for me. Thanks again Character, for being so very British, Big Finish for being so very considerate of your US customers, and B&M for not shipping outside its back yard. Be wise fellow non UK fans, and get what you want if you can, but let me encourage you all to think twice if at all possible. Cheers!

Don’t forget to thank seven20 for their go it alone approach in the USA. You might have got these otherwise. Instead Seven20 are producing their own fine range of figures for you, they don’t want characters.

    • Bob James

      August 25th, 2019 - 10:35pm

I am aware that they have done a Jodie Whittaker, but have they done any other figures? From what I understand, Seven20 are the remains of Underground Toys USA (a lot of the same people on board, including someone at the top), but they haven’t seemed to be either productive or aggressive in producing and releasing new Who figures. They’d have to produce something I wanted to get my business, and a Whittaker figure isn’t anything close to that.

    • booboo

      August 26th, 2019 - 9:37am

Yes, and they are the real reason why the USA don’t have the B&M sets.

They seemingly stuffed character over and wanted to go alone, they and only they have the license to manufacture and distribute Doctor Who toys in the USA. That’s why they do their own 13th Doctor, 12th Sonic, 13th sonic and soon war Doctor Sonic.

These are B&M exclusives, emphasis on exclusives, that’s the only reason they exist , try to dilute sales via other outlets and would be an end to it anyway.

I would also point out that last time one of these sets came to the USA ( and a very good 3rd Doctor set it was ) turned into a disaster for whona.

TBH I don’t think there’ll be that much difference in the sets. Just seen a post by BF where they have asked fans to consider buying from B&M in order to allow fans overseas to order from BF. Wouldn’t do that if they were substantially different

      Bit late for that.

They clearly don’t know the completest market very well, any official variant, no matter how small a difference will attract buyers, and there are probably a lot more than 150 of them.

There are also many UK buyers where even buying from B&M is out of reach.

The fact is for whatever reason there was nowhere near enough of these to satisfy all parties.

Booboo, was this the only chance for an international buyer to purchase this set? I really wanted both the 8th and 7th Doctor, and I REALLY don’t want to bid on those ridiculous ebay prices for it. Is there any other way an international buyer can get these? I don’t care whether they’re the Big finish exclusive variant or the regular ones, I just REALLY wanted these sets (the same as everyone else, but still).

no that was it, B&M don’t sell anything online not even to the UK

I’m not sure what the idea behind such a limited quantity was (could be B&M”s insistence as to not to take away business from them) Total underestimation from Big Finish, who knows.

This is all unknown territory for all parties to be honest.

    • Anonymous

      August 12th, 2019 - 8:42am

I usually check first thing in the morning, did so on Wednesday and still no sign. Had also contacted Big Finish and asked to be updated about the release of these if possible when they were first mentioned on here. Signed up to their newsletter etc. No contact. Also checked at lunchtime on Wednesday, just after midday. Again no indication on the Big Finish website.

I really hope the next release of ltd editions – if any – goes through with a bit more thought and realisation of the level of interest. Simply looking at the responses on here would have been enough I would have thought, to realise 150 sets and very little warning, if any, would probably cause a lot of frustration and a great deal of negative comments.
