Warlord Games The Pting ‘Soldier of Fortune’ August 2022 figure
Available to order during August 2022 only from www.store.warlordgames.com
Strictly limited to one per order. Only available throughout August 2022.
Blessed with a toxic skin, vicious claws and an all-but-insatiable hunger for all manner of inorganic matter, the diminutive Pting can be a menace to interstellar travellers as the Thirteenth Doctor found during The Tsuranga Conundrum. Pting are believed to have been impossible to kill, and could even survive in the vacuum of space. They could even eat a bomb and barely be affected when it detonated other than temporarily sating its rapacious hunger.
Our miniature Pting is depicted with the Thirteenth Doctor’s sonic screwdriver, which should provide it a tasty little snack! The Pting is an essential and unique addition to any Doctor Who miniatures collection. There’ll be no mistaking that silhouette!
The Pting figure will be automatically included for FREE with all Warlord Webstore orders of £50/$75/€60 placed during the month of August – it’ll also be available separately, but is limited to one per customer. This does mean that if you place an order over the threshold and include the individual figure in your cart as well, you’ll receive two!
Models supplied unassembled and unpainted.

August 14th, 2022 - 10:57amIs there anything your still after Tim, or are you up to date with your Collection now.
TimelordTim
August 14th, 2022 - 1:45pmI’m up to date now Coleman. Got the Pting and some others to paint that will make their way to collections when I get round to them. But hoping for some new releases down the line.

August 1st, 2022 - 4:17pmNot familiar with these, but does someone know a rough size for these figures. E.g. will it be in scale with the 5″ Jodie figures? Can’t see a scale on the website… Thanks 🙂
Coleman
August 1st, 2022 - 5:04pmNo there Tiny, probably about 30 mm in height.
There like the Dungeon and Dragon gaming figures you see in specialist shops were you glue them together and paint them yourself for Gaming battles.

August 1st, 2022 - 6:16pmIf you click on Collections and look at my page, the first few photos you’ll see these figures next to some from Eaglemoss and Character Options for size comparison. But, as Coleman says, they are very small, just a few cm tall.

August 1st, 2022 - 3:47pmHe’s cute I love him and he’s got the Doctor’s sonic!
I wish you could buy a plush Pting he would look good on my sofa…with me behind it waiting for it to eat my TV.

August 1st, 2022 - 1:10pmA nice miniature to be sure, but… I was under the impression that the Pting was not that popular.

August 1st, 2022 - 3:45pmI love a Pting! He’s one of those things Doctor Who does well a cute alien that can also be dangerous. Like the Pig in a spacesuit or the Adipose I think he’s just like them.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 4:09pmI think the Pting is well liked, but the episode it’s in being less popular hides that a bit.

August 1st, 2022 - 11:06amI was led to believe that Warlord had jacked in their Doctor Who range due to poor sales?A real pity if true, because they only released a small section of what they could have done; for the great Board Game/Cards that they had available.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 11:23amI spoke to them briefly about their products (granted this was about a year ago) and they said they still had plans for the Doctor Who range. However, most of their development team were furloughed during lockdown, greatly delaying things, and they seemed to be at the bottom of the ladder getting permission/verification of products. I think (or at least strongly hope) they do have plans for the Doctor Who range, they have just been a while in coming.

August 1st, 2022 - 11:33amOh, that’s interesting? I very much hope that they do continue with the range – I’ve got all but the Cyber Tomb which I unfortunately missed out on.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 11:52amI’ve got a lot of the range as well (check out my Collections page on this site to see them all painted if you like) but would love to find the Cyber Tomb as well. Alas, it would probably fetch crazy money if it were ever on eBay though.

August 1st, 2022 - 1:19pmMy understanding from what’s been said is that they had a large number of products ready for release for years now but the BBC approval process ground to a total hault and blocked them from doing anything else, combined with a seemingly random broadcasting schedule and then COVID it just wasn’t worth pushing the BBC any further so they just sat on the range until things got better but it never did.
Some of their products (such as the Pting here) were part of the way through the approval process when things stopped so they had approval for the model but not for the box art or cards for their game, so they are able to release them as special “promotional models” without the normal bells and whistles to clear out their backlog until the licence runs out.

August 1st, 2022 - 1:37pmI think they have advertised for a specific brand manager, i think things went a bit wayward when TV and Merchandise combined into one group, BBC Studio’s.
Things have certainly changed over the last few years.
Bit odd though, Character and Eaglemoss seem to have got approvals OK.

August 1st, 2022 - 3:18pmWhat paints do you use tim and is there a colouring guide?
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 4:15pmI use Humbrol enamels. But I think they are generally meant to be painted with acrylics. I use the enamels as it’s what I use for the models on my model railway and am more used to applying them. I kind of just make the colour palette up as best as I can, but some (not all) of the Doctor Who range on the Warlord site has a colour palette they recommend in the images if you click through them.
The ergon
August 1st, 2022 - 4:59pmYes i thought you used the enamels. Ive seen a couple, for example, the ice warrior, which could prove costly with the varying colours and applications required. I like a few of these (the headless monks, the emojibots, movellans, abzorbaloff, in fact, character that the likes of eaglemoss or even character would never get around to, even the likes of irongron, ashildr and auton bride being prime examples. I think i may just have arrived at this party just a little too late. Ill just revel and if need be just take inspiration from your collection should i require reference.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 6:24pmI’ve got 21 enamels and just mix the colours from there. So, for something like the Ice Warriors, I’d tend to just mix a standard green with white/black/grey, whichever works best, and then just mix different shades and layer them on rather than getting all the different shades they would recommend.
I really like the range (obviously!) for the quality, but also, as you say Ergon, for the characters that aren’t available elsewhere – Ashildir, Tasha Lem, female Clockwork Droid, Madame Kovarian, Headless Monks and others.
Coleman
August 1st, 2022 - 6:32pmI know everyone’s different, but I only ever use the 3 primary colours (Red, Blue and Yellow).
With these colours you can make any colour you want. Plus Black and White to either lighten or Darken a colour, (whichever you prefer).
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 7:08pmProblem with mixing small amount of enamel is it would dry before I got the shade right from just the primary colours lol. Either that, or I’d end up with a larger amount mixed than what I need.
If I used acrylic I’d probably do with less starting colours though (maybe 10 or so).
Coleman
August 1st, 2022 - 8:23pmYeah Tim, I should have said for Acrylics, that’s all I’ve been using a lately for Clay models.
I used Humbrol Enamels years ago for other projects I used to do. (To be honest I prefer Enamels) they cover much better, but apparently there not suitable for the kind of Clay I use.

August 1st, 2022 - 10:49pmIf I can join in the painting discussion, I always use acrylic paint over a good primer for clay models. Never liked enamels and could never get a handle on them! Personally, I find them quite tricky to mix and the coverage can be unpredictable but that might be me! I do like them for particular metallic colours. Still have a whole range or artists’ acrylics (some of which were left over from college after moving to oils for ‘serious’ art) and find them really easy to mix. They do dry very quickly which has advantages and disadvantages.
The ergon
August 1st, 2022 - 11:34pmThe problem with metallic acrylics there not that much choice of colour and variation but there are some shades of standard acrylic colours ive needed but cant seem to get or been able to mix for authenticity. I ve mixed and wasted a lot just experimenting.
Doug Who
August 2nd, 2022 - 12:30amYou should be able to get a full range of colours including metallic acrylics but they tend to be more specialist Ergon. I have gold, silver and copper acrylics and they can be mixed with other colours to give a metallic sheen. Maybe an art shop would carry a better range? There’s whole ranges now such as fluorescent colours. One advantage of enamels is they come in small pots rather than the larger tubes of acrylics although they last for years as long as the cap seals.
the Ergon
August 2nd, 2022 - 9:27amIts just certain Metallic shades, very difficult to find, even a colour code for mixing, that i can use to google, i havent always been able to achieve. I have just about every colour in the spectrum where acrylics are concerned and for touch up i took a leaf out of colemans book and use acrylic pens. To save time I occasionally resort to coloured polymer clay. I much prefer the pots to the tubes.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 10:59amYes! Very cool. I knew (hoped) they were working on more Doctor Who items but, as with everything, they were taking longer than planned due to various factors. Glad to see something new.
Coleman
August 1st, 2022 - 11:10amAnother figure to add to your ever growing collection Tim. Let’s hope theirs many more to come from Warlord, CO, Harrops etc.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 11:36amIndeed Coleman, it’s nice to have a new addition to the range.
As I’m not a subscriber, and have only dipped in for a couple dozen figures, from Eaglemoss I hadn’t commented on any of the ongoing issues. But it is such a shame to see what has happened there, for the staff involved especially. But, of course, for all the fans of all the ranges as well!
As you say, let’s hope for plenty more from CO (announcement very soon hopefully), Warlord, Harrops and others.
Doug Who
August 1st, 2022 - 1:11pmThought you might be pleased with this release Tim! This looks like a really nice figure especially when you consider Eaglemoss couldn’t get a Pting figurine to work even in their larger scale.
Speaking of Eaglemoss, as you say it is such a shame about their collapse, in particular for all the lost livelihoods.
Because their Movellan figurine in all likelihood will now not see a release, I dipped in to the Warlord range and bought their Movellan trio! They are incredibly well sculpted especially for the small scale.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 1:44pmGlad you’ve gone for the Warlord Movellans Doug, the whole range is incredibly well detailed for the small size. A vast improvement on the Harlequin range (which I obviously also like as well though!). I’m sure you’ll do a great job painting them as well, looking forward to seeing them on Collections in due course?
Doug Who
August 1st, 2022 - 5:42pmHi Tim – actually for the Movellan set, I ‘cheated’ and bought ready painted ones! I’m busy on a few Eaglemoss-style customs and I don’t know when I would get around to painting them. I find painting at the small scale a bit of a strain on the eyes too as I found with the Harlequin ones.
I do agree with you that the Warlord ones are much better sculpts than Harlequin, which are quite caricatured but still have their own charm I think. They look great on the dioramas you make too. I doubt we’ll ever get another range that would do the Shrivenzale or Nucleus – although I’d love to be proved wrong some day.
TimelordTim
August 1st, 2022 - 7:11pmYes Doug, Harlequin are great for such a wide range of options. Great they’re still available as well.
