The definitive guide to the making of the classic 1960s Dr. Who movies, lavishly illustrated and packed with insights into these beloved films.
Dr. Who and the Daleks: The Official Story of the Films is the definitive guide to the making of Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. The first and only big-screen adaptations of the long-running TV series, the films, starring Peter Cushing as the titular time-traveller, are beloved by fans – and the Daleks, in glorious Technicolor, have never looked better.
Author and film expert John Walsh has unearthed a treasure trove of archive material, interviews and stunning artwork, and takes us through the whole process of translating the metal monsters from small screen to big. In-depth information on the production, design, casting and special effects is accompanied by full-colour illustrations, including props, posters, and behind-the-scenes photography – making it the perfect gift for fans of the films.

March 26th, 2022 - 2:41pmThat cover also graced the HBO VHS US release. It was in one of those oversized white clam shell cases. It was released back when video tapes were mostly only sold to rental stores. For Christmas 1986, my mother paid $75 for a copy for me. 10 years later, Republic Pictures home video was selling it for $9.99 at Walmart. In 1989, a local store that originally specialized in Betamax rentals had a copy of Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. VHS, also from HBO.
I am also looking forward to the release of this book. While they belong in their own universe, I’ve always had a soft spot for the 2 Dalek movies, particularly the sequel. It was great seeing Peter Cushing playing a hero for a change.

March 26th, 2022 - 12:08pmThis looks amazing! Like Daniel, I’ve always loved the painted artwork for the two original VHS releases. There’s a lovely promo poster using this artwork too.
Looking forward to the book. Long overdue a behind the scenes look at the films and all the associated poster artwork etc. Some of the European publicity art is so striking.

March 26th, 2022 - 7:46amIve always liked that artwork. It was used for the Pre Cert rental VHS release in the UK back in the early 80’s and in a big box always stood out on the shelf. Great choice for the cover of this book.
