Doctor Who Magazine Issue 522
PETER CAPALDI, SUSAN CALMAN AND COSPLAY IN THE NEW ISSUE OF DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE!
Issue 522 also sheds new light on the Dalek craze of the 1960s, as agent Beryl Vertue and writer Brad Ashton remember the roles they played. “The Daleks were really the beginning of the BBC handling merchandise,” says Beryl. “None of us really knew what we were doing, so one might say we invented it.”

February 8th, 2018 - 8:24pmoh boy, classic daleks should totally make comebacks more often specially driving the plot of the newest doctor, for example some supreme daleks from every doctor’s era <3

February 5th, 2018 - 9:52pmJust when you think there’s nothing more to say about sixties Dalekmania, this comes along! And what a cover!

February 6th, 2018 - 9:15pmindeed, makes a nice change from always having any specific Doctor on the front… give us something that actually MADE the show good from day one and adds some variety instead of driving the hype of Jodie Whittaker into the ground, it was interesting at first but it got boring by the third time I saw her on a cover… I was like “yeah, 13’s a woman… big whoop, give us something new for once”.

February 5th, 2018 - 4:10pmCosplay Masterclass? Okay, I may be wrong but I feel like DWM is starting to cater for a different audience at the moment

February 5th, 2018 - 4:35pmWithout being disparaging, I can’t help but agree that since the change of editor DWM has started to feel a lot more like DWA…

February 5th, 2018 - 5:52pmMaybe its a sign of the times and fandom is evolving.

February 6th, 2018 - 9:27amThere’s certainly a couple of segments of fandom that have been relatively neglected over the years so it will be good to see if Doctor Who is actively trying to be more inclusive of them. I mean if you look at online discussion, it appears cosplay makes up about 75-80% as much of Doctor Who fandom as Big Finish audios, yet a large number of pages are given over to the latter every single month and historically little to no cosplay coverage)
(I’m not sure where the idea that cosplay is done predominately by children comes from, by the way – that’s pretty far from the case in my experience)

February 6th, 2018 - 9:09pmpfft, cosplay masterclass indeed, I cobbled together a brown jacket and paisley tie from a charity shop, my dad’s wedding trousers, some doc martens and a bog standard panama with two official hankies, the silk scarf, the jumper and the umbrella to make Sylvester’s outfit for a xmas party in 2017, won the best costume award too! Shows you don’t always need the top line clothing for a cosplay or fancy dress. Charity Shops are an Aladdin’s cave for Cosplays provided you’re clothes aren’t too overly modded or costumey…

February 7th, 2018 - 1:36pmUm, that’s actually very much the tone of Christel Dee’s Cosplay guides – how to do cosplays in a quick and fun way without spending an awful lot of money on screen accurate stuff.

February 7th, 2018 - 10:08pmYeah they started a blogs of doom page which is aimed at younger readers maybe with no Dwa there trying to incorporate it into Dwm. Maybe the show will become more child friendly especially after Capaldis run

February 10th, 2018 - 11:51pmTime Team is on an indefinite hiatus, there was no letters in last months issue (and they were begging on twitter for fan art & letters on merchandise) and I do find it kinda odd that with the artical and rumours from “Private Eye” that they are doing a cosplay guide. Plus why pay £6 when I could watch a fan show video ? Speaking of which … where did it go ?
Did they run out of Doctor Who stuff to cover ?
No DWA fan or child would pay the price for DWM, like Big Finish it’s aimed at people with disposable income. Know it will be interesting to see when the yearly survey comes what people think of the new stuff.
Also that’s Twice they’ve advertised it in the Next Time section- like you really don’t have anything more important or interesting than cosplay?
Dee herself resonates with a particular type of modern fan , the type of fan many of the older ones find grating or only a fan of a … well “a small section” of the whole vast 50+ years which make up Doctor Who

February 5th, 2018 - 1:50pmI like the cover!

February 5th, 2018 - 8:36pmTo be honest this is literally the only cover I have really liked in a while… 🙁
