Big Finish Torchwood Aliens Among Us 1

Available to order from www.bigfinish.com

Big Finish picks up the events after Miracle Day with Torchwood: Aliens Among Us…

5.1 Changes Everything by James Goss

Tyler Steele has washed up in Cardiff looking for a fresh start. A disgraced journalist, he’s looking into the Red Doors movement – are they really behind the terrorist attacks on immigrants? Who is stirring up the racism and hatred in the city, and what does outsourcing contractor 3Sol have to do with it? Tyler finds out that Torchwood – a secret organisation that everyone thought long gone – is back in business. Tyler realises that this is the second chance he’s been looking for, and he’ll do anything to be a part of it.

5.2 Aliens & Sex & Chips & Gravy by James Goss

Has Cardiff really been invaded by aliens? Tyler thinks he’s found a lead – the daughter of the mysterious Ro-Jedda is getting married and has booked a private party. If Torchwood can infiltrate it, there’s a chance they’ll end up closer to the truth. Free bar, canapés, and the chance to find out what’s really going on. What could possibly go wrong? Soon Torchwood are on the run for their lives, and learning more than they ever wanted to about alien life.

5.3 Orr by Juno Dawson

Vincent Parry is the most successful property developer in Cardiff. A while ago he made an agreement with the mysterious Ro-Jedda, and it is an arrangement he has come to bitterly regret. Something has to be done – but it’s going to cost him everything he loves. With time running out for Cardiff, Torchwood encounter an alien who knows them only too well.

5.4 Superiority Complex by AK Benedict

Poverty and homelessness are on the rise in Cardiff. The streets are full of the desperate and the dispossessed. So, of course, it’s the right time to open a 7-star luxury, all-inclusive hotel. And, naturally, the hotel is for aliens only. As the humans stand outside the gates and look hungrily in, there’s one thing that makes them smile. Someone is murdering the guests.

Starring John Barrowman, Paul Clayton, Alexandria Riley, Jonny Green, Sam Béart, Kai Owen and Eve Myles, with writers James Goss, Juno Dawson and AK Benedict, directed by Scott Handcock and produced by James Goss

This box set is one of the worst things Big Finish has produced. The characterization is dull, the action is forced and the plots are poorly written.

I disagree. in my opinion there are much worst audios they have done but this does not come close to being anywhere near as bad as them. I enjoyed this set a lot. like the new characters and the old ones. only thing I would have made me like it more is Rhys and Andy were in it more

I half agree. I enjoyed most scenes but the set got worse as it went on. By the last I was bored out of my mind. I would’ve preferred more Gwen and Jack moments together, they were never in a scene together. Although (SPOILERS BTW) I really enjoyed the “What’s up with Gwen” situation and can’t wait to see how they resolve it. I was thinking it could turn out to be Zygons but Big Finish don’t have the rights to do that, I don’t think. All in all it was alright but I think Rhys and Andy should’ve been in more/altogether, I did enjoy the references espessially the Ice Maiden one in Episode Two.

Bit annoyed that the cover isn’t really anything new. I hope that the CD covers have individual artwork for the story (Like Dark Eyes) and not like the usual TW Box set releases with subtle changes, but I doubt it

Just buy the ones you like the sound of most. They’re all (by and large!) excellent.

The one thing that could make this even better would be broadcast on BBC radio like BF’s original Eighth Doctor series (and previous Torchwood audio dramas by the BBC)

I would prefer them to come in single releases and be released weekly or monthly.

Big Finish are a small company with a relatively small paying audience who still have to pay actors, sound designers and the like. It’s a credit to their brilliant work that actors of such fame and regard want to take part in their productions at all, given that they probably pay less money than such actors are used to.

I meant compared to the other doctor who and torchwood box sets

      May 7th, 2017 - 1:48pm

The previous Torchwood box sets were 3 parts, this one is 4.
Also I imagine that this set is more ambitious than most, we already have eight main cast members announced without any mention of who will be playing minor guest roles in the individual episodes.

Doom Coalition and similar box sets are £23 to pre order

It’s only £5 more. Hardly a drastic change.

I want this to be fresh, so no references to things that have happened elsewhere in the other releases. No Norton Folgate, no Comittee…just something new. Super excited though!!

Don’t think this is tying into the other torchwood big finish stuff, this is set long after most of that following after miracle day, so may tie into that as it had a bit of a cliffhanger

In which case, Rex needs to be in this.

Hope we get some explanations to the unresolved cliffhangers, and I’m hoping one of the doctors will finally show up in these audiobooks

in response to many on here, such as The Dalek Whovian, or LastOfTheSonics. Torchwood IS on audio now. Accept that. It will never come back to TV especially given it would have to either rewrite and decanonise all big finish or work around it. Big Finish has made Torchwood so much better in many aspects. I for one, adore it on BF and hope it never leaves.

It doesn’t have to leave BF to be on TV again

Yes it’s not coming back to TV anytime soon, but they wouldn’t not do that because of the audios, but this followup likely indicates they have no plans

It’s Ng played by Alexandria Riley by the looks of it. Also it looks nothing like Bill.

Well I suppose a fifth series in some form is better than no series. Although I am still holding out for a fifth one.

This is properly the closest thing we will get to Series 5 (Unless Chibnall plans to revive Torchwood) but any continuation is awesome

Don’t think Chibnall has the rights to revive Torchwood. Moffat said the same thing before – that he has no control over it either, its simply down to the fact if both RTD and BBC say yes to a fifth series.

    • The Dalek Whovian

      May 6th, 2017 - 5:59pm

Ah that explains a lot, I’m sure John Borrowman will persuade the BBC or RTD one day.

    • The Outcast

RTD was involved in the creation of this (It says in the press release), so he’s not blocking it, so I assume its the BBC based on your comments. Saying that, I wouldn’t know, cause I’m not a fan of Torchwood and MA stuff in general.
