The great Time War between Gallifrey and Skaro rages on, and the high-ranking Time Lords contend for control of their own side, as the Doctor Who spin-off audio drama series Gallifrey: War Room returns today.
The box set Loyalties comprises four brand-new episodes starring original Gallifrey series stars Louise Jameson as Leela and Lalla Ward as Romana, with the Doctor’s former companions involved in the power struggle at the height of Gallifreyan society.
With Cardinal Ollistra (Carolyn Pickles) now in charge of the War Room, the other Time Lords, including the General (Ken Bones) and Rasmus (Chris Jarman), must follow her lead – or find a way to unseat her. But Rassilon has returned (Richard Armitage, known for The Hobbit and Spooks) – and he’s growing impatient about the progress of the war…
The Worlds of Doctor Who – Gallifrey: War Room: Loyalties is now available to purchase for just £19.99 (download to own) or £24.99 (download to own + collector’s edition CD box set), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com. Please note: the collector’s edition CD box set is strictly limited to 1,000 copies and will not be re-pressed.
The four episodes of intense Gallifreyan intrigue are:
Propaganda by Georgia Cook
With unrest brewing in Low Town, Rassilon demands the immediate location and destruction of a rogue broadcast mocking his name.
With Rasmus, the General and Cresta trapped in the Drylands, and riots bubbling on the streets, Ollistra attempts to steer a course to cement her rule over the War Room.
Resistance by Katharine Armitage
Eris is trying to hold a crumbling Resistance together; Ollistra is trying to tear it apart. Both have audacious plans to ensure the victory of their side and everyone else has to choose where their loyalties truly lie.
Hope by Fio Tretheway
Leela has a job to do, and she cannot do it alone, and so she enlists the most unlikely of allies for the task. Time is not on her side, and she must succeed, or else all of them are doomed.
Eye for an Eye by Matt Fitton
Cardinal Ollistra must serve the will of Rassilon and see the Resistance destroyed. But the Resistance is already falling apart.
With Leela and Rasmus missing, the General and Veklin are given a mission that neither relishes. Loyalties will be tested, and vengeance will be had.
The box set’s cast also includes Beth Chalmers as Commander Veklin, Seán Carlsen as Narvin, Mark Hawkins as Eris, and Faith Omole as Cresta, as well as Anthony Howell, Tom Alexander, Veronica Roberts, Robyn Cooper, Samuel Clemens, Nicholas Cowell, and Janet Amsden.
Louise Jameson said: “What I love about this set is the range that it gives Leela. I’ve really been challenged. What’s been explored is Leela’s vulnerability. She doesn’t often get to show it – she’s always the warrior – so to actually see her confidence knocked is really interesting.”
Lalla Ward, who returns to the Gallifrey series for the first time since 2021’s Time War 4, added: “It’s strange enough being back in England, never mind back on Gallifrey! But actors are used to this, and I get back into Romana pretty easily, especially when it’s this well written.
“It’s wonderful being back working with Louise – we’ve had some really good times working together. And from Romana’s point of view, it’s wonderful being back in the orbit of Leela! They’re an interesting pair of very different people.”
Loyalties is the third box set in the Gallifrey: War Room series. Big Finish listeners can save money by purchasing it in a multibuy bundle of four box sets, with the fourth (Title TBC) due for release in January 2027, for just £78 (download to own) or £88 (download to own + collector’s edition CD box set).
