Big Finish The Audio Novels The Lord of Misrule
Jago and Litefoot return in a new Doctor Who audio novel
The acclaimed Doctor Who – The Audio Novels range returns in January 2025 with The Lord of Misrule, written by Paul Morris and narrated by Jon Culshaw.
This rollicking audiobook adventure sees the return of Jago and Litefoot, the Victorian gentlemen turned alien investigators, who were originally portrayed by Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter in the 1977 TV serial The Talons of Weng-Chiang.
Jago and Litefoot went on to star in their own audio drama series for Big Finish Productions, which ran for 13 box sets before Baxter’s sad passing in 2017. The duo also appeared in The Fourth Doctor Adventures: The Justice of Jalxar, where they teamed up with Tom Baker’s Doctor and Mary Tamm’s Romana.
The Lord of Misrule brings that same quartet of characters back together, as producer David Richardson explains: “One of the joys of The Audio Novels is that they allow us to explore avenues which are tragically closed off. I absolutely loved working with both Mary Tamm and Trevor Baxter at Big Finish, and losing both of them was a great tragedy.
“We had such fun making The Justice of Jalxar, and I would have loved to make more full-cast adventures with the Fourth Doctor, the First Romana, Jago and Litefoot. So The Lord of Misrule is a tribute to them and the happy times we had together, so beautifully written by Paul Morris and performed by the glorious Jon Culshaw.”

In 1901, something strange haunts the streets of London. A mysterious carriage appears from nowhere and seems to spirit away the unwary. But to where?
When Romana is taken by the carriage, the Doctor teams up with that other redoubtable pair, Jago and Litefoot, to find her. Their investigations lead them to discover an alien plot that could alter history.
And before the Doctor can stop it, he must first save his friend…
The audiobook’s narrator, Jon Culshaw, is an impressionist known for TV shows such as Dead Ringers and Spitting Image, as well as for voicing Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in various Big Finish Doctor Who audios.

October 9th, 2024 - 10:28amHi Nick. Its just not viable for CD. as some can be 5 or 6 discs some would be over 8 hours and need 7. The Idea with the range is to take as long as you need to take. So you might have to put them in spindle cases, and thats pricey. well more pricey than jewel case, and they aint cheap..
I loved this range as it wanders in ways into story areas you just dont see coming. The Box of terrors was simply stunning, as was the very first release Scourge of the Cybermen. I would love everything on CD. if not only for the reasons that the Website transfer has proved. we dont all have PCs or space to download to hard drives. Im behind 5 releases as the CDs have not turned up yet. and I dont fancy asking my friend to make me a disc of the 3 disc box sets. I hope theres a fix sooner than later. Specially with these being DLO

October 9th, 2024 - 9:58pmI understand Bryan what you are saying about costs for CDs and that is a very good point, CDs are increasingly becoming very expensive. However, for me having a physical item is more tangible. I like the idea of having an item that I can access straightaway, without the hassle of constantly backing up of and protecting files as well as the storage of files. Anyway this release looks a brilliant story and if a downloaded media file is the only way to enjoy it, so be it.

October 8th, 2024 - 9:44pmHave every single Jago & Litefoot release on cd, worth a good bit now I know. Did enjoy Justice of Jalxar with Romana 1. This looks like a nice one-off treat but I am very much opposed to big finish continuing the range in this style in the future. Also, shame it is download only, especially considering the recent issues with the app, etc
