What is a Doctor Who Fan’s greatest desire? The answer, according to research conducted by the creators of the Doctor Who Experience in London, is to walk into the TARDIS. To this end they recreated not just one, not two but three TARDIS control rooms spanning the latter history of the program. BBC Worldwide recent surveys came to the same conclusion. We want to be the Doctor in the TARDIS.

Well now you can!

We’ve come up with an inspired range of wallpapers based on Classic TARDIS interior design specifically licensed by the BBC. To test the market we’ve released the one that lasted the longest, 1977 to 1989. This roundel pattern spanned four Doctors and remained from its inception until the show came off air.

One of the crucial points in the discussions we had with BBC Worldwide when working on this project was the question of accuracy. They were pleased with the research done and how close to the original dimensions we where able to achieve within the constraints of the standard wallpaper sizes available. However, they were particularly impressed with the story of how we came by the colour used.

In every picture of the TARDIS interior the colour is slightly different due to lighting and exposure so to get it right was proving tricky. Salvation came from a website one of our designers had joined when it came to light that Mark Barton Hill was a member. He just happened to be the fellow that had built the 1983 control room for the Doctor Who Experience!

We cheekily asked him for a sample of the paint he had used on the exhibit in the full knowledge that it looked absolutely authentic. What he sent us was a sample from the pot of paint used in 1983 on the screen TARDIS! Unbelievably there was still some left after all these years and he’d used it to colourmatch the paint for the exhibit. We were able to do the same for the wallpaper.

The wallpaper is now being made in two patterns, one ‘Roundels’ and the other ‘Column’ which, used together, can recreate the patterns of the Classic TARDIS interior 1977 to 1989.These are currently available for pre-order.

This’d be good for a backdrop at the back of a display cabinet . Figs’d look great in front of this & sample poster should fit most back cabinets ; give a little over-age .

Saw this mentioned in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine [ 441, page 8 ], while the picture shown above with the Hat Stand and 4th Doctor scarf is also advertised in the same Magazine, page 33. Would love to have my Bedroom decorated in that wallpaper.

When there’s a new topic, I scroll down to see what people think, and the first thing I see is some question being asked, a question that has nothing to do with this page !! 😆

p.s; You won’t find it in HMV, they will have sold out by now, buy it online HMV/Amazon/Play.com ask for christmas if you want it badly.

I think this looks AMAZING! I can’t wait to get a roll or two.
And I would have killed for some of that when I was 7 years old in 1983, but I was content to stick Mum’s paper plates to the wall with blue tack and let my imagination do the rest. Now you can get the real thing! WOW!
    Well done!

A quite peculiar piece of Who merchandise, but actually quite a nice, practical
set too. I don’t expect to use this on my walls anytime soon, but it’s great to see this kind of nice material get officially licensed and released!

the 8th Doctors TARDIS has no visible walls and I think bronze walls would look a little odd
