Don’t like the double thickness packaging for just 4 discs, also annoyed they didn’t wait unitl March to include Resulution. Waste of shelf space for me

Gone right back down to £35 on Amazon and been given a £2.99 refund for the pre-order price guarantee.
Great stuff. But why hike the price up like that in the first place if they’re just going to drop it again a few days later and refund everyone?

I’m wondering if it is down to the hmv situation. Doesn’t look like they will be getting any more new stock in. With hmv out of the way they don’t have really any major completion. Sure there is zoom and Zavvi but neither are as big a competitor that hmv is. I always imagined that without hmv amazon prices would crop up

      January 12th, 2019 - 3:46pm

The dvd gone up to £37 from £32. Think I’ll see if it drops back down otherwise I’ll wait a few months till the price drops to £20.

      January 12th, 2019 - 4:11pm

Well I moved a few orders from HMV over to Amazon and I imagine I’m not alone in doing so. They must have had a spike in orders for Doctor who dvds over the last week or so. But if that’s their tactic I’ll be purchasing general release DVDs from supermarkets rather than them.

      January 13th, 2019 - 12:56pm

So at the moment its £56.16 but the steelbook is at £48.99

    • booboo

      January 13th, 2019 - 1:34pm

For some reason Amazon have put all recent listings back up to full RRP, this could be a reaction to HMV but there are still much cheaper alternatives such as Zoom. Not sure on the logic behind this move.

People who ordered from Amazon will still pay the lowest price though between when they ordered it and dispatch

    • Gordon

      January 13th, 2019 - 1:56pm

It’s definetly pushing me even further towards zoom. I can’t see myself going back to amazon as things stand. It’s not just who related stuff that’s been hiked up. Was looking to preorder bohemian rhapsody in 4K. Was expecting to pay £24.99. Nope they have it for £39.99. No way I’m paying that. The dvd is £19.99 and is the same price as the Blu Ray. Their pricing structure is totally screwed up just now.

    • Rob W

      January 13th, 2019 - 4:01pm

If you ordered this before the price increase you pay the lower price eg £37. If you have yet to order it, check the price tomorrow/release day or buy from Base.com/HMV/Zavvi//Zoom etc. I really don’t think it’s anything to do with HMV.

    • Gordon

      January 13th, 2019 - 8:19pm

It’s been revealed that Hmv only has till Tuesday to get a buyer. I will be gobsmacked if amazon didn’t know about this. It’s too coincidental that hmv only has a few days to save it and amazon decides to bump up most of their dvd/blu rays up to the recommended retail price

    • Rob W

      January 13th, 2019 - 8:43pm

But Amazon’s prices vary anyway, a blu-ray I have on order from them was £14,70, then £19.99 and now back to £14.70. Check the prices on release day, better still wait a couple of days then check. You can also save £5 by downloading an Amazon app too…

    • Gordon

      January 13th, 2019 - 9:58pm

But this isn’t amazon varying the prices. This is amazon hiking items up to the recomend retail price. In the space of about 3 minutes I found about 30 items that had gone up to the rrp in the past 24 hours. It’s not 1 or 2 items its 100s Of items It’s not just new releases that it’s ifecting. I got a notification that 24 items on my amazon wish list have changed price and just about every single 1 of them had gone up to the rrp. Too many prices went to the rrp to be a coincidence.

    • Rob W

      January 14th, 2019 - 8:44am

Shop from the other e-tailers. HMV may well have this item for sale at £37.99. Amazon’s loss if you don’t buy from them.

    • Darren Clarke

      January 14th, 2019 - 10:45am

I will keep my pre-orders with them as they should stay the price that i order them at the time, but future orders will be with zoom like Gordon has said i will be giving them my money for other box-sets , don’t know why Amazon is not matching zooms prices as i hope new buyers will know that the is an big price difference between them .

    • Gordon

      January 14th, 2019 - 11:27am

Zoom aren’t seen as competition. There nowhere near that level to be seen as competitor. The only real competition amazon have is Hmv and it’s time is sadly running out

    • Haza14

      January 14th, 2019 - 1:08pm

I’ve notice this as well Gordon! I noticed the Season 18 box set had risen to RRP and had a look through my wish list and lots of items have done the same! No doubt that this is a response to HMV’s situation. What’s the advantage to Amazon other than getting more money from their customers? Surely it will drive a few people to other retailers? The advantage is they make more money from people that do buy I suppose! It makes HMV’s situation all the more of a shame though. No longer can you find DVD’s and Blu-rays on the high street, but there’s no major competitor to keep Amazon’s prices down! Will be interesting to see if this is a long term thing or not. Worrying development.

It might not be linked but the Series 11 steelbook never came down in price either. Despite it always coming down during the Pre-order period on nearly every item I’ve ordered!

    • booboo

      January 14th, 2019 - 2:02pm

cant see how nay of this helps future production and sales, they are just to expensive and people will be far more wary from now on.

    • Rob W

      January 14th, 2019 - 6:18pm

Maybe Amazon want to sell the Exclusive SteelBook version so have increased the price of this set to ‘encourage’ sales? Both seem over-priced and ought to be £35 and £40.

    • Rob W

      January 14th, 2019 - 7:27pm

… and now the price has reverted back to £37.99.

I hoenstly have no idea why they waited a month to release this in full, by that time the New Years special will be out so you can put it on there but instead release the special separately and make more money.

Get it out a week before Christmas and have it as a new set for fans to enjoy on Christmas Day

I completely agree. It’s always been policy to include the Christmas specials in a collection. Even Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor were collected together with (a reissue of) Name of the Doctor in the 50th Anniversary Collection. This will indeed be the first time I’ll have to buy not one special, but apparently two specials stand-alone. Ugh.

    • Rob W

      December 21st, 2018 - 12:38pm

I don’t wish to sound unsympathetic but you could wait a while before buying as the price may well fall. Twice Upon A Time was re-released on UHD and the blu-ray can be bought for about £7.50. Yes, it’s annoying but play them at their own game and save a few quid by waiting.

    • DoctorPond393

      December 23rd, 2018 - 10:54am

Time of the Doctor isn’t included on the Series 8 box set, so there’s no reason TUAT should be on this one. That would be like putting The End of Time on the series 5 box set. If any special should be on this box set it should be Resolution.

I’m afraid I will be skipping this release
No, it’s no cause I hate the season
Belive me, I would not have bought twice Upon a time if that was the case

I will be waiting for the Possilbe UHD release, I mean, twice Upon a Time was released on UHD, and it seems I was the only one who bought that, and that episode’s transfer sucked

I am hoping however that this season will be release in full as a UHD collection as I will be buying it in that form

Also, the steelbook looks awful and the actual standard boxset looks so much better, so I will just wait for the UHD version

I,ll probably end up having to buy the Region A version from the US for the casing and this version for the discs but there will have to be a dramatic price drop before i do.

No, it didn,t matter with series 10 because i was able to get these in the same packaging as they were released in two parts. I realise we are trying to cut back on plastic but from a collectors point of view this is a little annoying.

Don’t really see why it would need 6 discs to be honest. It’s only 10 episodes. It’s unlikely to have twice upon a time as it is part of the old regime and they will probably want it out before Christmas so It won’t have the 2018 Christmas special either. You could fit it in 4 discs with extras no problem and if there is no fan show/extra/confidential it will not need a 5th disc
