It practically sold out in a couple of months in the UK. I don’t know how well it sold in the States as it’s still available from Amz.com.

September 26th, 2026 - 11:42amI was told before the announcement of the DMP episodes (might even have been the week before) that ALL four episodes of the Smugglers had been found, but then nothing. Fast forward a few months later they are filming extras. Like G has said, it’s not unexpected that extras are filmed and banked, I know for example Richard Franklin filmed an interview with Matthew Sweet and that would have been a long time ago, as his illness had been ongoing for several years ago. Anneke’s comments in DWM might be rumours she’s heard or fact.
I feel that normally when they are normally more than a few indicators, it could be true. I remember when the Power animation footage was leaked, I was told around the same time that there was a lot of work going on pulling together photos and studio plans for the story and to me that was sign work was going on. However, I also was told the week Enemy and Web announcement took place that Marco Polo was found as well, but so were several others including the editor of DWM. Well, that was wrong. I’ve also been told that DMP and TP4 are held by an ex-BBC employee, but nothing has ever come of that either.
FIF have given us hope with the brilliant model of recovering shows, fingers crossed they can uncover more episodes.

September 26th, 2026 - 3:22pmI would definetly steer in the vicinity of caution regarding the smugglers being found. Film is fabulous have said multiple times they haven’t either found or returned anything since the 2 DMP eps though they do know where some eps are. with how secretive things are I’d expect them to not film any bonus material discussing a recovered story that isn’t going to be seen for at least 4-5 months. Plus it would have been planned and organised weeks and months ahead of time. They can’t just swan down to cornwall and film. Various permissions would be needed first. Any recovery from film is fabulous will also debut on iPlayer even if it’s a full story. However I’m Sure it’s also possible it ain’t from FIF. Finally filming a making of doesn’t mean it’s imininent. The myth makers has a making of filmed and not yet released. Honestly if there is a smugglers dvd/blu ray release coming this year/early next year I’m fully expecting it being an animated version.

September 26th, 2026 - 8:22pmAs much as I’d love for something to have been secretly found then be announced restored with a home media release and everything, as far as I’m aware, they usually announce recoveries as soon as they can. Say if the other episodes FiF know about are returned, then it’d probably only be a matter of weeks before we’d know about it.

September 25th, 2026 - 7:51pmI’m adding this here as well as on another thread as I think people are making assumptions somewhat. I’m not being negative but following today’s news I feel people need to be more aware of the reality. The tender is not a guarantee of a new series. 28/29 is a hope resting on getting a production team together that can deliver but there also has to be a budget from the BBC and that is not guaranteed nowadays especially as the BBC have said today many programmes will have to go in order to meet the BBC’s budget cuts. Who is a very expensive programme. Production companies are not making the show with their own money, it still has to come from the BBC.
This was said today.
As the BBC seeks £500m savings, Matt Brittin told BBC One’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg that “we wouldn’t guarantee any programme or any channel will exist forever”. He said: “The tight financial situation means that we’re having to look at some of those decisions a bit sooner than we might like.” Audience behaviour is also rapidly changing, he said. “If most of an audience is getting things on demand, we have to look at the value and the cost of all of those different services.”
If costs vs viewing figures don’t add up then we might have to accept the tender may not result in a new series this decade. Former producers have said it’s all down to money. The BBC will want who to be made but money is the issue.

September 25th, 2026 - 8:35pmI’ve worked in Film/TV Production & the astronomical costs involved, can soon eat through a budget. People don’t realise exactly how a film or TV Series is made, most don’t care anyway! But the bottom line is, every Department take’s a slice of that Production pie & sometimes a film or episode doesn’t even get made. That money is then wasted. Props & Costumes can be kept & re-used on something else to recoup costs. But a budget of say £1,500,000 for an Episode of ‘Doctor Who’ would only cover 6 or 7 episodes, so £10,000,000 roughly: no more than that. With no Christmas Special either. We shall see what transpires…

September 25th, 2026 - 9:13pmThe headline is don’t assume because who is out for tender it will happen. I’ve read a few interesting articles recently and former head writer interviews and it all comes down to money. Money the BBC doesn’t really have. Estimates are a budget cap of 3m per episode if funded solely by the BBC. Sounds great? Factor in sets, costumes, effects, actor fees, production personnel fees, studio costs, insurance, publicity etc. Even if they got a partner and doubled the budget it still has to cope with 2026 prices and politicians (naming no names but he’s orange and has no ability to understand economic consequences of his actions) and costs will continue to rise. I agree with Amy, don’t assume. The boss of the BBC has said “no programme” is safe from cancellation to save money. That includes doctor who, probably the most expensive drama the bbc has.

September 25th, 2026 - 9:34pmFor most of new who the budget has been 1-3m per episode. The Disney deal increased that. Without input from elsewhere the budget is likely to return to those rough figures. Costs now though are far higher than the pre-disney era. So it will be much reduced returns on the money. Oh, there are ways around it. Reduced episode lengths, a return to multi-episode stories. It may even end up as one or two stories per season spread over several episodes. Whatever happens, be it the tender not producing a series (as the likes of Mark gatiss are predicting) or a return with reduced episodes at a lower (and therefore effects light) budget I’m sure doctor who fans will remain calm! Unfortunately its out of fans control… the future of who faces its biggest enemy… accountants!

September 25th, 2026 - 9:47pmEssentially that war chief, its a case of manage expectations or be disappointed. Its the same as the missing episodes, the assumption some people have that all episodes are out there and will be returned. Unfortunately that’s just not going to be the case. Its not negativity just reality. If a new series is made, great, but if not that’s just the way it is. I’m undecided about who’s future. I’ve explained that explained that elsewhere but I really do think fans need some perspective. A good example is the smugglers. So many fans are assuming (wishfully) that rumours are true and the full story has secretly been returned. So when (if?) the dvd/bluray is announced and its purely animation then a section of fans will be disappointed and others will be angry erroneously accusing the BBC of money grabbing as the episodes have been returned and they will release them soon! Its happened before. I remember just that situation with tenth planet back when the dvd was released. Simply put, belive something is happening when its actually announced officially, be that a new series, an animation, a collection set or missing episode returns. By all means hope for things, but don’t carry that hope to far, I remember fan friends having serious mental health issues due to assumption that crashed on the rocks of reality. (And not a rutan in sight either)

September 26th, 2026 - 12:02amI think we may see a lot of established programmes ending over the next few months. So yes, there is a possibility who may not return as people think. I did find it strange when seeing reports that the BBC have confirmed a series was definitely coming in 28/29 when all that has been actually said is that a tender has been announced. A tender is no guarantee of a finished programme.

I find it hard to believe that a full story has been returned at some point in the last two years but no announcement has been made and nothing beyond rumours has surfaced, no clips, no leaked photos, nothing.

September 27th, 2026 - 10:01pmOne thing I do want to say is Chibnall and Gatiss made their statements in the context that the BBC only said they were putting the show out to tender. They’ve actually done it now. In any case, Richard Osman said there’s never been a case of a BBC show going out to tender and it not leading to multiple seasons when it comes back. I don’t think it’s doomerism to take the BBC’s ability to produce the show with a pinch of salt but personally unless anything else happens in March, I’m going to choose to remain optimistic.

Given it’d be harder to find people avaliable to do new making-of documentaries and things like that, it’d probably coast on providing unreleased pre-existing material like deleted scenes and making extended edits. Production note subtitles would probably be my favourite feature on New Series sets.

Have the standard televised version and then extended versions with deleted scenes etc. Maybe could be done when the Collection sets coen around for modern who for all 2/3 parters. The first list i saw of missing episodes was in the book a celebration, the 20th anniversary book. Compare that to now and you’ll be amazed at how much has been recovered

Wasn’t Adam Adamant Lives badly affected by the junking? And Z Cars is missing huge chunks of certain series.

Also, quite literally there’s a very good chance one of those two Hartnell episodes Paul Vanezis spoke about was an episode of The Massacre. I think he said himself they were from separate Season 3 serials. I can’t remember who said, it was a YouTuber who proved which ones they were most likely to be based on the history of the prints.

September 24th, 2026 - 10:51pmOh it was a few years ago, Paul Vanezis is one of the people responsible for the Classic Doctor Who DVDs and blu-rays and restoring the episodes. He’s also involved with the missing episode recoveries and said he knew of a collector with two Hartnell episodes who “had bigger fish to fry.” Apparently it’s also one of the collections Film is Fabulous are aware of. I’m pretty sure he said himself they were from separate Season 3 serials and a YouTuber worked out that they’d likely be from The Massacre and The Savages.
As much as I’d love any episode of The Massacre to turn up, Episode 3 would probably be the best one in terms of representing the whole story and its cast. It’s also the one with the most screentime for the Abbot.

September 24th, 2026 - 11:34pmIt’s frustrating that The Massacre is one of the only serials not to have any cliffhanger reprises, because then if Episode 4 turned up, we’d get to see the Abbot at the very start. I mean, he’d be dead, but we’d get actual visual material of Hartnell in the costume.

September 25th, 2026 - 1:34amHis comment was that one of the prints may have been a return from Australia but the other was definitely not (so two different serials). At a later date having checked up on the records from 1975, he was able to confirm neither were (so that rules out Galaxy 4, The Myth Makers, The Smugglers and The Tenth Planet).
The confusion over that one episode is why everyone is confident one of them is from Season 3, but the other who knows. Could very well be an earlier story or another Season 3 story.

I realise they might be going bust soon and I suspect they trying to get rid of as much stock as possible before then (Hence the price reductions) But I was wondering if I pay for these figures should I get them sent straight away without any hitches, or is it not worth risking?

September 20th, 2026 - 12:49pmThanks, The Unlicensed Physician, I’ve used “PayPal” and bought some Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures and Short Round from the Retro Collection.
There’s Quite a few Adventure Series Figures that’ll I didn’t have already. I had all the 3.75 inch retro Collection from when they came out but the Short round Card was in bad Condition, with a big Crease right down the middle as it someone had tried folding it in Two. So I always wanted a replacement.
At Zavvis prices at the moment I couldn’t resist.

September 21st, 2026 - 12:28amIt’s definitely worth the risk if you have something like PayPal to fall back on, especially since they’re very biased towards buyers rather than sellers. I keep looking at those Indy figures too… And Richard E Grant as Loki (he still hasn’t got his dream of being a Star Wars figure). There are quite a few British character actors in that sale, so you could have Withnail going for a drink with Luther’s ex wife, Bomber from Auf Pet and Harris from Porridge.

September 25th, 2026 - 8:08pmMy Indiana Jones Adventure Series figures plus the Retro Collection figure arrived this Morning from Zavvi, in a Box with extra padding and in Great Condition. I’ve now even a Retro Collection Short Round on a Mint Card (at last).
Just letting anyone know if there cautious of ordering from Zavvi still, I havnt had any problems.

Which of the Titan graphic novels are only available in paperback?
I’ve got a collection with most of the 10th, 11th, and 12th volumes in hardback as I prefer hardbacks over paperbacks, but I’m not sure when Titan moved over to releasing them as paperback only.
I’ll happily buy the paperbacks if there’s no hardback version, but I’d rather get the hardback where one exists.

September 10th, 2026 - 12:40pmHello, as someone with a full line-up of the Titan collection I consider myself well versed enough in to answer your question. Doctors 9 – 12 all received hardcovers spanning from Years 1 – 3 as did all the crossovers until Lost Dimension Part 2. For the Classic Doctors 3, 4 and 8 also got hardcovers but for some reason 7 was excluded from this so theirs is only in paperback. The 13th Doctor’s entire run including the subsequent Doctor Who comic (Fugitive, Empire of Mind etc) was unfortunately only collected in softcover. 15’s run is also softcover only. (Circuit Breaker also seems to be softcover only). The most recent volumes to get hardcover releases were Doom’s Day and Once upon a TimeLord (both regular and DM variant)

They are so Limited that only a handful of very wealthy people will actually get a set. The 2 Cruise cards most people will never get, the 2nd Doctor metal card is Limited to a hundred & the Vortex cards will be nigh on impossible.

Dvd enquiry usually have no clue what’s being released until it’s either up for pre order or announced. I remember back in the day asking about release date for things I knew what was happening and they said there was no plans to release them at present

August 26th, 2026 - 3:18pmOne thing I’ve always wondered is why Character Options replicated the 11th Doctor’s Series 6 tweed jacket only once (lighter colour with reddish lines, instead of plain dark brown). The variant that came with the Christmas Carol set is literally THE ONLY TIME they did this. After that they reverted back to the Series 5 style for all future tweed jacketed 11s.
I’ve always thought this was odd considering they already did it once very successfully imo. So it’s not like they couldn’t do it or weren’t aware (as so many aren’t) of the change in look between Series 5 and 6.
Was it too expensive to add the reddish lines? I can’t imagine that’d be the case. Even with them, 11’s outfit is EXTREMELY simple compared to other Doctors CO still do even now on a budget.
Strange really, considering that S6 jacket was the outfit he ended up wearing the most, for around 16 Episodes. Series 5 tweed = 13 eps, Purple outfit = 10 Eps & Green coat = 4 eps, roughly.
It’s not my favourite (I prefer his Series 5 look) but arguably it’s his most iconic outfit. Plus the plain shirts of S6 paired with the plain jacket of S5 makes for a boring look, so it’s a shame that that’s what they defaulted to.

August 26th, 2026 - 3:55pmThey’ve technically only done series 5 11 once too. The jacket he wears in 10 out of 13 episodes was only ever sculpted on the fez 11 that came with the pandorica wall, and even then they painted it a shade of orange rather than the dark brown.
He wore a different jacket in victory and the angel 2 parter, which is the one that got used on every series 5, 6 and 7a 11 figure (apart from the fez one), except they painted it a dark brown to match the one he uses for most of series 5.
The only time the brown tweed sculpt has been painted correctly was in the 13 doctors set, although ironically they claimed it was from the beast below, so I think that leaves 7b 11 as the only jacket wearing 11 figure without any errors lol.

August 26th, 2026 - 5:11pmAh that’s a good point Mrs Croot! Although to be honest the differences between the Series 5 jackets don’t really bother me. There’s always going to be inaccuracies, I just sort of take it as ‘this is CO’s version of Series 5’. Whereas, they’ve clearly attempted, successfully, to do their version of S6, but then just dropped it after one time. Just always wondered why.
Don’t recall ever noticing the jacket was a different mould on the Fez version, so that’s interesting! Although it has been a while since I saw that one. I think I was always too focused on and perplexed as to why it was painted so weirdly to notice haha. Again, weird that they never used this more accurate sculpt again.

August 25th, 2026 - 6:56pmI don’t really get the point of wishlists that are as fantastical and expansive to this degree. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love all this too. But at that rate it’s kind of just a list of every character they haven’t done yet, and improvements to ones they have done.
Realistically, I’d guess the next wave, based on the current one, would be something like:
Set 1: Dalek Drone Two Pack
Set 2: 13th Doctor set of some kind
Set 3: Jamie Figure
Set 4: Vortex Articulation 10th Doctor??
Set 5: Quark Set perhaps idk. Maybe an Attack CyberController & Cyberman.
All to build a………. not sure. Dalek Emperor maybe?
I’m personally hoping Al Dewar pans away from the 70’s a bit as it’s been so successfully represented so far that I’d like to see other eras get more figures. Of the current wave of six items, half are from the 70’s. At this point I primarily just want a Jamie. It’s kind of wild to me that the most prolific companion still hasn’t got a figure, yet we’re now getting one of Liz Shaw who appeared in just 4 stories (although I am certainly glad to get her too!).

Not to mention, the 2nd Doctor is the only Doctor not to have any representation companion-wise (aside from the 8th ofc) so I think it’s just fair, especially considering the two were almost inseparable. Plus I think it’d be nice for Frazer Hines as he’s expressed a desire for a figure, so I’ve read.

In retrospect, I’d prefer if Al Dewar didn’t pick favourites in terms of story representation quite as much, and the general character and monster representation was more evenly spread out. There should’ve been a Jamie figure years ago. Troughton looks very lonely on the shelf, couple of Daleks and Cybermen, an Ice Warrior – yet you can practically recreate Pyramids of Mars. And I’m not just saying this because Curse of Peladon is my favourite story, but it’s bizarre they never made a set with an Alpha Centauri figure or something.

I feel each Doctor should have at least two or three of their companions and original monsters and villains, and Daleks and Cybermen are just a given. With what’s been released already, maybe these ones should be prioritised.
1st Doctor: Barbara, Susan, a Zarbi and Menoptera, a Monoid, the Celestial Toymaker
2nd Doctor: Jamie, Zoe, a fish person, a Macra, Salamander, a Quark, a Dominator, a Kroton, the War Chief
3rd Doctor: Alpha Centauri, Bellal
4th Doctor: Adric, a Rutan, the Captain, a Mandrel, Foamasi, Pangol, a Marshman, the Watcher
5th Doctor: Turlough (given the version of Tegan is from Resurrection), the Mara, a Terileptil, Omega, the Myrka, a Tractator
6th Doctor: Mel, Glitz, Mestor, the Rani, Drathro, a Vervoid, the Inquisitor, the Valeyard
7th Doctor: the Kandyman, a God of Ragnarok, Morgaine, the Destroyer, a Haemovore, a Cheetah person
I adore The Leisure Hive, I think a set for that story would be fantastic. And yeah, a Trial Sixth Doctor would also be a good opportunity to do a Valeyard figure.

There are a lot of factors that go into choosing what to make. Of the 14 things you listed, eleven of them would be ground up totally new sculpts with no opportunities to reuse for later releases. That’s not practical when you have a limited budget so even if you did want to prioritise those it would take several years to get through them all.
Jamie will need to be a completely fresh sculpt with limited reuse potential outside of possible Jamie variants (and no he has already checked, it won’t work for Ncuti Gatwa, totally different body build and very different style of kilt). It’s something they want to do, but it’s something they want to do right. Nobody wants a half hearted Jamie.
It also isn’t all out of personal preferences (it will be a factor to an extent, but not the only thing as several people are involved in the choices). The reality is there’s a reason why 70s Who gets a lot of attention, there’s a reason why a story like Pyramids of Mars which is universally loved gets picked a lot. Certain Doctors’ eras sell a lot better than others. It would be nice to spread them out and they do make an effort to do so but there’s limits because they don’t want stock stuck in their warehouse.

If they didn’t end up doing every single monster, character etc, having a Turlough figure to go with the Resurrection Tegan, a Tractator and a Terileptil or something would make the Davison era look, idk about complete but you’d have a TARDIS team and a couple of monsters and it’d be a decent sample of the Davison era. Troughton is the big issue though. He doesn’t have a single companion and it’s not far off 20 years since the range started.
Thing is, at least talking about the late 2000s and early 2010s, personal preference did play a large part in the character selection back then. The original Fifth Doctor didn’t have celery on his coat because Al didn’t like it. The only monster in that first wave that wasn’t a Hinchcliffe era monster was the Sea Devil, and that’s still from the 70s. Things have improved and now they’re doing more 60s and 80s stuff which is fantastic but it’s a shame there’s still significant gaps like Jamie or practically any original McCoy villain.

But yeah, I’m not quite saying “do every single one of these,” more “maybe consider these ones.” Complete a TARDIS team, do a monster or two. Represent a recurring character like Glitz or Alpha Centauri. Given they’ve done the Wirrn and the Yeti in this new wave, they could certainly do a Tractator or a Foamasi or something.

My wishlist is quite large, so I won’t bother posting it in full, but I do hope that next year we’ll get more stuff from the 60s and 80s than the 70s. I mean, there’s still plenty of 70s items I want (Silurians, Ice Lord, etc), but I do think the 80s and 60s could use a few more companions and monsters.
