FAQ For Big Finish Buyers

Does the vinyl come with a download of the story?

  • If you buy the vinyl from the Big Finish website, the download will be added to your account. (Note: if you buy from Amazon or another online retailer, this will not be possible.)

How many copies can I buy?

    • While we do not have the ability to restrict orders on the website, anyone buying more than one copy will have the multiple orders cancelled and refunded.

I’ve already pre-ordered a download. Can I cancel my order and buy a vinyl copy instead?

    • We do not recommend cancelling your order. There will only be a very limited number of vinyl copies available from the Big Finish website. If you are lucky enough to secure one, we can arrange a refund of your initial download order.

Can I ‘upgrade’ my download pre-order to a vinyl pre-order?

    • Sorry, due to the very limited number of copies of the vinyl LP edition, we are unable to facilitate such an offer.

Big Finish, in association with Demon Records and BBC Studios, today announces the opening of pre-orders for the limited edition Time Lord Victorious vinyl starring David Tennant and Paul McGann.

Due for release via the Big Finish website and other online retailers on 16 April 2021, Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious – Echoes of Extinction comprises two separate adventures that listeners can play in any order and features a different incarnation of the Doctor on each side. This very special double-A side LP conclusion to the Time Lord Victorious multi-platform event is issued on split red/blue vinyl.

Originally planned to launch in selected UK ASDA stores in November 2020, this very special double-A side LP conclusion to the Time Lord Victorious multi-platform event was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But from April the adventure, issued on split red/blue vinyl, will be available for pre-order from a number of online stores, including Amazon and the Big Finish Website, enabling fans worldwide to secure their own copy.

A digital download of the story will also be available globally from the Big Finish website and is now available for pre-order at £8.99. (Note: products are sold in £ sterling on the Big Finish website but will be converted to local currency upon checkout.)

Stocks of this release are strictly limited and are expected to sell out quickly. A list of other international online retailers taking pre-orders will be published as and when they become available. Please note that Big Finish has no control over the product pricing and shipping costs of third party retailers.

David Tennant and Paul McGann star in Doctor Who Time Lord Victorious

Big Finish has today revealed its final contribution to the Doctor Who multi-platform adventure Time Lord Victorious with a new limited edition vinyl – starring David Tennant and Paul McGann.

Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious – Echoes of Extinction comprises of two separate adventures that listeners can play in any order and form a greater narrative.

This very special double-A side vinyl Doctor Who release features a different incarnation of the Doctor on each side and will be released on split red/blue vinyl.

Trapped, a haunted monster waits to consume new victims. It needs help. It needs a doctor. Unfortunately, it also needs to kill whoever it meets. Thrust into immediate danger, and on the back-foot, it will take all of the Doctor’s ingenuity to triumph.

Two interlinked adventures. Two Doctors. One foe.

The stellar supporting cast also includes Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who, Broadchurch), Burn Gorman (Torchwood, The Expanse), Mina Anwar (The Thin Blue Line, The Sarah Jane Adventures), Kathryn Drysdale (Benidorm, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) and Paul Clayton (The Crown, Him and Her).

David Tennant said: “The Doctor in Time Lord Victorious is a different character. He’s slightly lonelier, slightly scratchier, when he doesn’t have one of his pals to hold him back.

“But it’s nice to tell stories from different times of his life. You just have to try and make sure you’re in the right mindset. The script is fascinating. I’ve only got one side of it, but I’m very aware there’s more to this story, that there’s another Doctor on the other side of the disc. I look forward to getting my LP so I can listen to it all.”

Paul McGann added: “I’ve read this script twice through and I’m still none the wiser. I’m more confused after the second time than I was after the first. It’s only while working on it that I’ve become aware of how it’s going to be structured.

“It really appeals to me, the idea that it’s in two parts, on two sides of vinyl. I think it’s fun for people listening. Part of the excitement is when the different incarnations meet… or nearly meet.”

Writer and Producer Alfie Shaw said: “Director Scott Handcock has pulled together an amazing who’s who of Doctor Who for the cast. We’ve got alumni from the series as well as Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.”

“It’s been an honour to create Big Finish’s first commissioned-for-vinyl story, and utterly thrilling to write for both the Eighth and Tenth Doctors.”

A digital download of the story will be released from the Big Finish Website on 04 December 2020, and is now available for pre-order at £8.99.

Pity there is no pre-order via asda as nearest store that stocked the last vinyl was too far to travel due to restrictions (pandemic) so don’t really want to travel via train to a store to find its out of stock when I get there, The stupid thing is there is a Asda store 10 mins from my home it just didn’t stock the last vinyl.

Technically they are allowed (unless the items are on second floor full of non essentials)

They are ensuring a level playing field for those who actually want to stick to rules.

To be honest, I’m not really interested in these releases or the B&M ones anymore. It’s too inconvenient going out to find them and they aren’t there. I get it’s the fun of the ‘hunting down’ of the items, but to be honest, I don’t have the energy to do it, when I can just order something online :/

In terms of tlv just this at the moment. Personally I’ve had several novels (8 or 9 I think) that were due this year delayed by an average of six months. One of those things. The TLV stuff has all come out on time so far, but we are in a second lockdown so a little common sense wouldn’t be out of the question!

    • Doctor Stu

      November 11th, 2020 - 1:03pm

This particular audio is delayed, the defender of the Daleks collected edition is delayed, all of the TLV Daleks so far have been slightly delayed. The online orders of Doctor who magazine with parts 2 and 3 of the ninth Doctor comic are delayed. It’s nobodys fault but it hasn’t just been this one audio that’s been delayed or released after its original date.

      November 10th, 2020 - 8:08pm

Hi Fishmonger . Bearing in mind. People on the Welsh borders, couldn’t come to England ,when they were in lockdown ( not many Asda’s in Wales, )plus nearest with Records were on the England side of the border

Now England is in lockdown, Wales still can’t come over the border.

When we Exit the Circuit breaker lockdown, we go back to Tier levels. I don’t know why it wasn’t online exclusive at Asda. Because of the pandemic.

without sounding selfish very happy to say as far as wales are concerned very happy to say that once we come out of lockdown there is going to be no restrictions to go where we want to go in wales so this means I can physically board a bus and seek this item out echoes of distinction that is assuming it will be on my local Asda store.

echoes of distinction are coming out in November we have just gone into November and as far as I know, this is still scheduled for 27th November but given the state of the country at the moment with the greatest respect no sign of a cancelation which would be better until the situation gets better we in Wales finish our so-called fire lockdown a week today so the big question facing me and many others is will we be able to travel to in the case of the doctor who vinyl our local Asda i will keep an eye on this

I doubt they have an international delivery service. As a national shop (GB) they have an online delivery system but they don’t deliver abroad. However there is a website called British shop abroad that appears to deliver produce and goods from presumably not just Asda but other British supermarkets. No idea if you can get the vinyls this way or how much it would cost but may be worth looking.

As Anonymous mentioned, they do have a website and deliver items. But I don’t know about deliverys overseas. You’ll have to look on there website and see. Also do you live near any Walmart’s? There the same company, They might be able to get you a copy.

ASDA exclusives are kind of like Target exclusives, difficult to find unless on eBay for extortionate amounts of money, and that’s on bulk items, not limited edition. As another commenter said, Walmart owns ASDA now, but do still think it’s UK only. I live in Wales so if anyone wants me to pick up a copy and send it over, I’m happy to PayPal it or whatnot.

It’s the nature of exclusive material. It has the potential to exclude certain fans. Whether it’s visual or auditory exclusion depends on the merchandise but the thing with exclusive stuff like this is not all fans can be catered for. I’ve a friend who is deaf who has missed out on all of the audio stories. But you can’t expect all of them to be done as books. There are just to many. It’s a shame for fans but theres not much can be done about it.

Surprised that it’s available on download but not cd as it’s supposed to be available across all formats but I have a feeling that big finish are moving towards downloads only which is a shame as I’m not interested in downloads and have always bought CDs from day one.
I know if you have the right equipment you can do your own CDs but it’s not the same I will try and see if I can get hold of a copy in my Asda when it’s released as my local apparently did the Max Warp vinyl but that was already available and had been for some time on cd as have all the others releases at hmv & Sainsbury’s so demand on this will be huge and probably near impossible to get hold of.

As they have said this was commissioned by Demon records who are an LP only company as part of their contribution.

There are no CD’s of the books, no Books of the CD’s either. Each licence holder are making their own contribution for the platform they specialise in.

    • Anonymous

      August 6th, 2020 - 5:47pm

Not talking so much about this as as you say boo boo it’s an exclusive to demon records but more in terms of their own output on cd

    • booboo

      August 6th, 2020 - 5:57pm

I see it from the other side of the fence from a business point of view and to include all licence holders in TLV with their own unique material released on their specialist platform which was the idea from the start, release this on CD and it may render Daemon records participation as unviable.

Its not like the other (ASDA / HMV) exclusives where the material exists. This is new so to dilute sales between 2 different platform might make either one non profitable.

I’m intrigued… I get that it says you get one Doctor on one side and the other on the other – and that certainly refers to the disc… but do the pack shots imply it comes in two different covers (rather than a double sided one)? I especially like the McGann design, but to be honest, my local ASDA has usually been very bad for getting the BF exclusives in and I’ve nearly always had to resort to eBay when the retail partner is them (or Sainsburys). HMV is the one place I’ve always had luck picking up a copy from

Do you know if any of the other Doctors have planned cd releases tying in to this TLV range?

This looks amazing! Quite disappointed it’s going to be impossible to get for me though (no Asda in Rep. Of Ireland) and don’t really get why there’s no CD version available -_-

I was thinking exactly the same. To say this particular series is covering all ranges, if its an audio cast story why isn,t it going to CD if they already have The Paul Mcgann trilogy already lined up. Its not giving me the appetite to collect if they miss stories that may be integral. I wouldn,t be interested in the books, comics etc, so if its audio dramas be consistant and release them all on varying format.

Nice for those who can get this but it’s a rather limited number of fans. None of my local Asda stores stock the who vinyls and I’ve a lot of friends like myself who don’t buy them. I hope the final part of the story, the part which wraps up the plot is in a format that all fans can enjoy otherwise we are not going to know what happens.

The story is available in a downloadable version on the big Finish website

Asda stores only, another LP I won’t be able to get because my one doesn’t get them in stock. And I won’t be paying eBay prices for it. So anyone wanting the whole set are going to be disappointed if they want physical media media of it all.
