Wand Company 10th Doctor’s Sonic Remote

The Wand Company 10th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Full details at www.thewandcompany.com

This is available from forbiddenplanet.com and The BBC Shop

Everybody needs a Sonic Screwdriver; the Doctor’s wonderful science fiction gadget that can unlock doors, control objects at a distance and is the pocket sized answer to all sorts of tricky situations.

Now, fans of David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor are in for a treat. This summer, in response to massive consumer demand, The Wand Company will reveal their new, authentic Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Remote Control.

Painstakingly 3D scanned from the original screen-used prop, kindly loaned to The Wand Company by David Tennant himself, this Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver is a faithful clone, CNC machined from aluminium, crammed full of technology and is a fully functioning gesture-based universal remote control that looks, feels and works just like the real prop.

Previewing on the ThinkGeek Booth at San Diego Comic-Con in July, the Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Remote will be available exclusively through selected retailers in the UK, US and Australia in October to coincide with BBC Worldwide’s Tenth Doctor celebrations (BBCW have been celebrating a different Doctor during every month of 2013) of the popular and long-running series’ 50th anniversary year.

To further commemorate Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary year, The Wand Company is also launching a limited-edition gold and silver plated version of their enormously successful Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Remote Control. A small quantity will be available first at San Diego Comic-Con, and then from other selected retailers in the UK and US, but with only 250 of these special, individually laser-numbered Sonic Screwdrivers ever being produced, this is the ultimate collectible for Doctor Who fans.

The Wand Company

The Wand Company’s Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver, officially licensed from BBC Worldwide, is a 1:1 scale replica of the original filming prop. As well as being a fully-functioning universal learning remote control, the Sonic Screwdriver comes with a built-in rechargeable battery, has authentic sound effects taken from the BBC sound effects archives, 10 special secret Morse code messages to discover and a light-up blue tip. It is supplied with a die cast metal stand and comes in its own protective hard case. The Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver is expected to retail for £69.95 in the UK, $109.95 in the US and $129.95 in Australia.

About The Wand Company The Wand Company Ltd. was founded in 2009 by Chris Barnardo and Richard Blakesley, two British inventors, with the goal of creating immersive products that bring magic into people’s lives. Now one of the world’s leading providers of functional prop replica gadgets and magical instruments, The Wand Company’s products have already been sold in 82 different countries.

So what’s the difference between the 10th and 11ths sonic screw driver The Wand Company?

One is the 10th Doctor’s sonic, the other is the 11th Doctor’s sonic.

Really, there is no bigger difference than that. (Unless you want to know the 10th’s extends and the 11th’s doesn’t.)

I really really really really really really want one of these, and that doesn’t even cover how much I want one. I thought I’d ask for it for it for Christmas but when my Mum heard how much it was she just laughed, but she just doesn’t understand the work that has gone into this or the rarity or collectabilty of such an item or items like it, or just how awesome it is, basically she’s not a nerd like me so perhaps I’ll have to try asking my Dad instead, or failing that I may have to bite the bullet and buy it myself.

LOL. 😆 I think if you’ll start saving up now, you’ll probably get it on the “release” date. I should start now, but knowing me, a jar of over £10 would make me want to spend it! 🙂

Hello I was wondering Can you press the button to activate it on the 10th doctor screwdriver cause on the 11th it doesn’t have buttons you have to flick it to turn stuff on and i was wondering if you have to do that with the 10th Thanks 🙂

Would this actually make a good replaceable remote? I know it’s not recommended. But according to the reviews, it can turn on and off your Telly, and change channel. I don’t know about volume but this does seem like a pretty good replacement.

yes you can do the volume, i have had a go with one and its great, takes a bit of practice for some of the features

I dont think it was ever intended to replace to remote entirely – although there is no reason why not, but its very good for impressing you friends

Especially if their Tennant obsessed. I really can’t wait to see or get hold on one of these. The amount of tech they put into this thing is mind boggling, as well as being a decent replica. It’s basically, in a nutshell, EPICALLY freaken awesome.

How many devices will this control and will a non-remote replica be available in the future? Or does The Wand Company’s license not allow that?

i doubt its something they would do as it the whole point their company.

I suspect any other replica of this quality would be similar money.

      i think its 39 items?

qmx were supposed to be bringing out some but no sign of them

    • The Wand Company

      July 3rd, 2013 - 3:06am

      Booboo is basically correct:

      – We don’t have a licence from te BBC to make non-remote replicas, and I’m afraid we don’t know anything about the plans of other licensees such as QMx.

      – Our Sonic Screwdriver can learn up to 39 infrared (IR) codes from “normal” remote controls, where each IR code corresponds to one button on a normal remote. There are more details on our website here: http://thewand.co/10th-sonic-FAQ

Many infra-red appliances. TV’s, DVD/Blu-Rays, docking stations, sky boxes, lamps. Practically everything that has a remote that’s infra-red. And no, the Wand Company only release remote controls. Not licenced props.

    • The Wand Company

      June 30th, 2013 - 7:57pm

Ours won’t sound quite like that – those sounds were added by foley artists during post-production so the original prop doesn’t actually sound like it does in the show when handled. (The screen-used prop doesn’t make the famous buzzing sound effect when the button is pressed either but we have, of course, included that in ours.)

I don’t think this one is limited at all, it’s just a standard release, it’s only the sliver and gold 11th sonic that’s limited.

    • The Wand Company

      June 27th, 2013 - 2:33pm

That’s correct – the Tenth Doctor’s Sonic isn’t a limited edition, but we won’t be making a big quantity initially so it’s possible that our retailers might sell out. The gold and silver Eleventh Sonic is limited to just 250 units and won’t ever be made again.

P.S. Thanks for all the interest and enthusiasm, folks!

    • Whovian

The gold and silver plated edition will be available first at San Diego Comic-Con in July and then from just a few online retailers the following week. We’re finalising the details at the moment but will be announcing those retailers very soon.
