The Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver

Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver Blasts into Character Options’ Collection

After months of speculation it is now official, the Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver is to be part of the Character Options’ toy collection.

The first images have been released with confirmation that the eagerly awaited Sonic will be on sale within weeks!

sonic-1

This new toy version is a faithful recreation of the current Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver which debuted in the Series 9 Episode ‘Hell Bent’.

This is the first Sonic to have 4 light modes and four sound FX. The model has been designed as a replica from the Series 9 Prop.

sonic-2

As all fans would know, the Doctor has carried many Sonic Screwdrivers of various designs throughout his lifetimes, ranging from a simple silver coloured tube to more complex illuminated and articulated versions.

sonic-3

This second Sonic for the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, was ‘gifted’ to him by the TARDIS itself after his previous version was lost.

Although we are yet to discover all of the new Sonic’s abilities, like the Doctor himself, it has become ever more complex and mysterious.

sonic-5

This multipurpose tool features numerous settings and can open most locks, detect all manner of deadly rays, read bio-signs and generate Sonic waves of great power.

Alasdair Dewar, Head of Product Development at Character Options commented:

“Since this Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver appeared at the end of series 9, we have been inundated by fan requests to produce a toy replica as part of our toy range. We are therefore very proud to finally be able to reveal it. The Sonic Screwdriver has historically been one of the most sought after toys for fans and collectors alike and we hope they will be as delighted with it as we are.”

The Character Options’ Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver costs just SRP £14.99

For a limited time only, exclusively on the Doctor Who Shop (USA and Canada), fans will receive a Gift with Purchase – one pack of three exclusive trading cards from the Twelfth Doctor’s limited edition set – with the new Sonic Screwdriver, while supplies last.

Oh my that is awesome, I love how flicking the dial either up or down changes the colour as opposed to having to manually change it like on River’s Sonic. Character really went all-out on this one.

As soon as it’s up for order on the internet, assuming the price is reasonable, I’ll be adding this one to my collection.

Oh my gosh I’m even more excited by the promotional pictures than I was before.
It’s clear they’ve put a ton of effort into it, with two colour modes and three different settings.
Does this mean the pulsate setting is likely the one 12 uses when he first catches the Sonic in the Xmas Special? Where the lights are circling round the sonic? I was so hoping the toy would be able to emulate that part of it.

Definitely ringing up my local Toysrus tommorow morning to see if they’re getting any in, and more importantly if I can reserve one 😀

Okay so I just rang ,my Toysrus because they haven’t closed yet, the lady said there is a 12th Doctors Sonic on the list of items to be delivered tommorow. She also said I need to ring back at 1:00 because that’s when they get their delivery in, so they’ll be able to tell me then if they’ve actually had it in stock and hopefully put one back for me.

Don’t mean to sound negative, but this looks like a plastic toy. The majority of other sonics looked more realistic.

From someone who was hoping for at least some 5″ figure news alongside this I’m not that disappointed with the outcome as realistically I don’t think we will get any 5″ news until SDCC. Before this was announced I was skeptical about it as I didn’t want to waste my money on someone I thought that would be similar to the “non opening” Eleventh Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver but now I have changed my mind. From the images you can really tell Character put effort into making this item as screen-accurate as possible giving it enough features included to fit the £14.99 price tag. For that money I don’t think it’s that bad, compared to when “The Other Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver” was released at the end of 2013 for £19.99 if I’m not mistaken. I don’t really collect the sonics as much anymore and haven’t collected any since the War Doctor’s came out, but I am more than happy to pick this up as even though I’m not to keen on the over-complicated design I think it looks good as a toy and I can’t wait to test out the 4 light modes it comes with.

Really loving this new sonic. However can’t help but notice that this sonic isn’t the first to feature four sound FX. The Eleventh / Twelfth Doctor’s did, and the trans-temporal sonic had something like eight.

I don’t understand all the people who are let down by the announcement. Booboo even said that it most likely was going to be about the Sonic when this was first announced. It was everyone else who started saying I bet it’s about figures or something else. This announcement is a big deal. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it underwhelming. Whovians should know better. At this moment in time we Whovians should be happy with any news we get. Don’t worry, there are more figures coming, when we don’t know, but they are coming. Remember that San Diego Comic Con is coming up and there might be new figures there like last year. Anyway, enough of me rattling on. Continue with what you were doing.

Totally agree! I think people kinda blew the announcement out of preparation. A new Sonic Screwdriver is definitely worthy of an announcement in my opinion, but like you said, people started saying things about a new line of figures, which has now made the announcement look smaller! A new Sonic is enough! (Not that I’d mind a few new figures in the near future though!)

    May 12th, 2016 - 4:13pm

This looks amazing! It looks like it’s gonna have plenty of features.. Blue and Green modes, multiple sounds! Oh, and it actually looks like the screwdriver, of course! All the right preparations seen to be there. I, personally, can’t wait to grab one of these! I might even pop to my local-ish Toys R Us tomorrow, if I can get the funds! I would have loved to have gotten a video showing off the features and everything, but maybe I’m asking for too much!
