October seems to be the month for Doctor and Ruby action figures and the new sonic screwdriver.

@booboo – are the fakes on ebay the ones that promise multiple LED colours (e.g. the 12th Doctor sonic)? I’m seeing a lot of people complaining they just got standard editions. Wondered why the sudden flood of them on sale.

There are 100’s if not 1000’s of counterfeit 10th, 12th and 14th Doctor sonics on online market places, its been going on for weeks and to be honest i’m astonished no one seems to be able to do anything about them.

There was a “real” 12th doctor sonic (not done by Character) and a factory has copied it along with a chrome version (like the 14th).

Its a mine field as to what genuine and whats not. (although the 1 second delay thing is an obvious one

The way around getting a counterfeit is to ask for the Character Options box it was shipped in to be sent with any ebay order. Not exactly guaranteed but a pretty good bet?

Because it’s bedazzled. Plus, we’re all geeks here, we bought the Sonic Spork back in the day (and I don’t regret it in the slightest, still have it), and we’ll buy anything even remotely cool

I can’t really tell on the photos but will this have the chrome effect like the online exclusive or be matt like the standard?

It’s electroplated, so don’t worry, it’ll be as shiny as the online exclusive variant 🙂

I could be wrong (and I hope I am), but I think it’ll be more like the standard matte colour, unfortunately. It says it’s electroplated but specifies that it’s ‘gold electroplated’ whereas the chrome sonic specifies that it’s ‘chrome electroplated’, which would indicate ‘electroplated’ doesn’t necessarily mean it’s that shiny. This combined with the images suggests it’ll be at least more matte than the chrome one to me. (Maybe it’ll be somewhere inbetween.)

Out of curiosity booboo, do you have any thoughts about why this exclusive has been done? It seems really random for FP to suddenly come out with turning a Sonic Screwdriver gold. Especially on the same day the Chrome one came back in stock. Why gold I wonder.

Perhaps to test the waters for more exclusives, its a bold move and FP should be commended for that, lets face it they were the only ones doing stuff for the 60th.

Maybe it will appear in a comic who know’s.

personally i think its a shame so many fakes have hit online market places which no one seems to be able to do anything about which dilutes sales both for this and the CO chrome version.

As nice as it is. I think i’ll pass as I prefer my sonics to look as they do on screen. That’s not to say i’m against this kind of thing though.
Also FP picking up an exclusive DW toys after so many years is great news! Hopefully more to follow. I’d love to see a chrome finish of the other sonics. It really sets it’s apart. Imagine 11s with a beautiful shiny bronze and silver chrome finish!

I don’t want to want it, yet here I am. Personally I think character are at their absolute best with sonics when they take their own creative liberties like this, the gold is stunning here and the silver sonic from their personalise your sonic set from 2012 remains one of my favourite designs.

Some won’t like this because it isn’t on tv but if the 60’s had such bizarre merch that didn’t come from tv I don’t see why the trend can’t continue today.

I’m still surprised they haven’t managed to get at least Ncuti’s sonic out in time for the show being broadcast.

Definitely good that Forbidden Planet is on board though with a new exclusive.

Oh this is FREAKIN’ COOL!!!! I saw a fan concept recently saying how the 15th Doctor should’ve kept the 14th’s Sonic and just changed it slightly and posted an image of a gold version (with a purple light though) and I thought it looked amazing!!!! I’m astonished they’ve actually done that!!!! This LOOKS ace. Very unexpected!!!!

Well it looks pretty nice. I’ve ordered one to keep boxed. Don’t really need it loose. Have a feeling it might go for crazy money in a few years like that 50th Anniversary exclusive 10th Dr Sonic that Forbidden Planet had. That fetches over £100 on Ebay now

Even though this is not at all featured in the episodes, I still really dig that gold. Maybe we will get an announcement for the 15th sonic soon, what with these other drops happening.
