The Doctor Who Figurine Collection Updates and The Future

As many are aware, Eaglemoss is now In Administration

This does not necessarily mean this is the end of the collection. Huge efforts are going on behind the scenes, particularly by Ben Robinson who ran many of the Eaglemoss ranges, to find a new licensee so it (and other collections) can continue. With the 60th anniversary just around the corner, he very much hopes this can happen in some shape or form.

As the administrators have only just been appointed, at this stage information is very limited and subject to change.

Latest updates here:

This “at a glance” post will be continuously updated with information and images on any developments about moving forward but also information on past stock that had, or may have been manufactured and its whereabouts.

  • Issues 216-219 went into full production.

These figurines are highly likely to find their way to a retailer(s) in the coming months. They are believed to be in, or on their way to the UK. The magazines were all finalised up to issue 222 but some may not have been printed. You should start to see images of these soon.

  • Consoles, Megas and Specials

The 9th/10th and Junk Yard Consoles along with the Cleaner Robot and Mega Cyberman should all find their way to a retailer(s) in the coming months. Some may be in different locations within the supply chain at present. Its not clear how near to production or shipping other announced items were such as the Mega Dalek, Skaak on Horseback and The Image of the Fendah Set.

  • Issues 220-230+ were in development, some much further ahead than others.

Its not known at this stage if any of these went into full production and if they did what their exact location is within the supply chain. Images of some unannounced figurines are shown in tweets below.

With thanks to Ben Robinson. Embedded tweets, the newest first, with the latest images and information.

To help spread the word we would encourage as many people as possible to “like” and “retweet” his posts.

Such a shame we will almost certainly never see released, I would have been looking forward to all of these, especially the Axon Monster.
Not to mention I don’t like numbers between 211 and 219 so was hoping the collection wouldn’t end in the middle of that.

According to the paperwork found online there is a link the facebook group relating to the collection.

Having read the article before going into administration eaglemoss sold it customer database for the eshop to Heathside trading.

This means a third party as our personal information such as name’s, addresses and possibly bank details surely this is a clear breach of GDPR

no, they can sell databases with certain rules as long as it’s only used for the purpose it was intended, ie mail shots to promote a particular range.

Eaglemoss had filed for administration i think when this was sold even though administrators has not been appointed

Sometimes a database can be amongst a companies most valuable assets.

There is no suggestion it would include bank details or any other personal info other than an email address and the range you were interested in.

Heathside are a very well known business and there is no way they would be in involved in anything against GDPR rules.

Important to note also is that its says eshop as in their website, not subscriptions which would be a separate database.

All this info is in the public domain on the Companies house website under Statement of administrator’s proposal: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02226335/filing-history

      http://www.nibusinessinfo.co.uk

Selling the database of a defunct business

A business that is insolvent, bankrupt, being closed down or sold may sell its customer database without consent under the following circumstances:

      • the seller must make sure that the buyer understands they can only use the information for the purposes for which it was originally collected
      • any use of the information should be within the reasonable expectations of the individuals concerned
      • consent is sought if the information is to be used for a different purpose
      • the individuals are informed about the new owner and given their contact details

This is really crazy but for months now I’ve been thinking of customising some CO or Eaglemoss scale figures.
Finally made my mind up last night I was going to make an Eaglemoss Scale Axon Monster and Krynoid together Since they are so similar.
I was actually looking on Ebay last night for some Eaglemoss figures to use as a Base.

Been thinking about this one too Coleman! I think the Marshman would be a good base. The pose is similar to the Axon attacking the soldier and it helps having the arms outstretched from the body!

Maybe we won’t have to put all that work in if enough interest is shown to get these made. I hope so!

    • Coleman

      August 19th, 2022 - 12:16pm

Yes, Genuinely made my mind up last night what to make after weeks of debating.
Thought it would be a good start to my Eaglemoss custom collection as I could do 2 for the price of one, so to speak and paint one Orange and the other Green (With just a few Tweaks).
Last night started to “Watch” a couple of Auctions on Ebay to use as bases.
I don’t want to pay alot for these Eaglemoss figurines as they’ll just be used as a base.
Was going to surprise You Ergon and Tim by putting them up on Collections (in a month or so). But then Ben does this to me. Ah well.

    • Coleman

      August 19th, 2022 - 12:21pm

I was even thinking how to do the hand Tendrels, and found some very fine Steel wire in a draw, which I woukd attach to the “Base” figure before covering in Milliput.
(I had been planning it all out).

    • The ergon

      August 19th, 2022 - 12:33pm

Hope within hope these get made yet. Its up to you of course but eventually these may come through, and we have those excellent harrop versions to put us on. Krynoid is definitely one to do. I was thinking of starting the tent version myself and do it in layers and adding the tendrils later, the only problem is sourcing the larger bases i wouldnt want to pay much and they never work out as good when i replicate my own. Do that foamasi with your krynoid. A battle of the green aliens if you like. Either way i,m sure you,ll do a splendid job whatever scale you choose.

    • Coleman

      August 19th, 2022 - 12:41pm

Hello ergon, I’m sure I’ll get round to the Foamasi eventually as it’s a great figure. Why I decided on Axon Monster and Krynoid as my first Eaglemoss figures was basically a learning curve. Because of the small scale I know I’ll hit problems and wanted something Really Basic as my first Efforts. (Abit like You and Doug originally did).
If I’m ok with the fiddily scale I’m sure I’ll progress onto harder Sculpts.

    • The ergon

      August 19th, 2022 - 1:05pm

I,m still on said learning curve coleman, trial by error. Its just nice to have you enthused and back in the fold again. I,m sure you,ll have a much better experience than with milliput. Now some time has passed, what did happen there?

    • Coleman

      August 19th, 2022 - 1:33pm

Yes, couldn’t seem to get Enthused at all about Doing CO customs. (Even though I love CO figures). But as soon as I decided to change to some Eaglemoss Style Customs I’m Excited again to Custom.

    • Coleman

      August 19th, 2022 - 1:44pm

I only ever used Milliput once on the Robert Harrop Style Menopteras Scarf.
But once I started using a tip by someone on the internet, about using plenty of Water with Milliput, I found it quite easy to use.

    • The ergon

      August 19th, 2022 - 2:06pm

Yes i remember you saying you had used it on the scarf and it working out. With not hearing about other projects, i just assumed you,d lost interest.

    August 19th, 2022 - 10:52am

The Axon creature looks fantastic and another bittersweet tantalising glimpse! I wonder if the colour scheme here had yet to be finalised. Obviously the potential for a tweak into the Krynoid too!

They were quite far ahead with developing these and again hope they do see an eventual release.

I think neil said they might have problems with all those tendrils Doug but you are right about a tweak or so to enable The krynoid to come into existance as it was basically the same costume sprayed green.

  • the Ergon

    August 19th, 2022 - 10:47am

Now that is one of the big hitters that most collectors were after. They overcome the problems with all the tendrils I see. I just cant believe its one that we are potentially going to miss out on.

So its confirmed Heathside trading has bought the stock, its not known what, along with the e-shop customer date base.

This might suggest they are looking to sell direct to the public for a time.

This could take a while to sort out. Much of the stock is in Poland and they have to arrange to get it here by the looks of it.

They specialise in buying surplus / bankrupt stock and normally sell on to 3rd parties.

There is also more stock held with various logistics operators in the supply chain who are owed money so looks to be a very complicated situation here.

    • booboo

      August 19th, 2022 - 10:18am

Not sure they would have got those, i read part builds and part works stock seem to be being dealt with differently, possibly as part of selling the lines to a new licensee.

I suspect Heathside have bought all the in hand stock the shop had, in other words most of what people already own.

    • booboo

      August 19th, 2022 - 11:07am

    • The ergon

      August 19th, 2022 - 1:13pm

Just been checking out heathside which deal in wholesale and clearance. Does this mean that they might just be selling off those remaining half dozen or so issues or specials only?

    • booboo

      August 19th, 2022 - 1:26pm

I think they bought the entire stock that would have been on-line at the time (remember this is all stock not just doctor who). They have also bought the customer data base ( i assume the shop email list, not the subscription date base).

It also says there is a lot of part work, and build up stock at different locations and they are looking to sell this to established partners (FP?)

Some of this is with shipping companies who are owed money so they might be able to hold it until paid of dispose of it themselves if not

I suspect the administrators know that stock thats not been on sale before is worth a lot more than stock that’s been around for a while. The subscription date base would be worth a lot more to a potential new licensees.

You can see why all this would take time and is very complicated with different parties involved.

If eaglemoss hadn,t bit off more than they could chew then we could well have seen that Oswin/ Clara/ bonnie figurine. So many didn,t quite make the run. I,m not sure if branching out too far was a good idea in the long run for them. Trying to please too many people all at once didn,t work out. I would have loved more story themed, monster variant and companion sets all the same. If some new company were to start up from scratch i,d be more than happy to subscribe again.

    • Dalekz

      August 17th, 2022 - 4:27pm

Maybe they should have stuck to producing the main characters so people could complete Doctor & Compaion sets before branching out into making other things that are a bit more obscure.
Some of the choices have been a bit strange like the Father Christmas figure, I don’t know how far that got but did they really think anybody would want that over Clara or Mel ect.

As Neil said, the Santa figurine was intended as a bit of festive fun but it was unavoidably delayed.

Ben Robinson has been giving interviews on a few sites where he explains (as far as he was privy to) what went wrong with Eaglemoss, that they basically tried a rapid expansion with the intention of selling the company but overreached and ‘toppled over’ in his words.

I really hope all his efforts pay off, not just for our ‘Who’ figurines but all those with incomplete builds!

I suspect this might have been the last of the flux figures but we might have got dan, 13th and yas in their own doctor companion set. Since Eaglemoss had already announced Vinder for issue 221 I’d like to have thought Bel and Dan was also in the works, then that would have been all the main Characters from the Flux covered in this Collection.

      August 17th, 2022 - 11:18am

Yeah, she could have been in a future set with the Doctor. Since they were making Vinder they should have also been making a Bel for this collection.
I remember at the time watching Flux and liking their story. I was wondering if they would turn out to be the Doctors parents and the baby Bel was having would turn out to be the Doctor.
I remember alot of fans hating this storyl Arc and hoping it wouldn’t be true.
Was a good Arc, it got everybody talking about it.

Flux started well and had a few highlights. The set up was intriguing but for me it all unravelled into a bit of a convoluted mess and left so many questions unanswered by rushing its final hour. Lets hope the centenary readresses some of what went bedore but i think it unlikely. The angels episode was the pick of the series.

Might try my hand at a Foamasi Eaglemoss custom one day but tricky at that smaller scale especially the spines and texture. There are good full-length references which is useful though. I agree it was a great design that perhaps didn’t translate into realisation entirely successfully.

To start with, employees including customer service would have only told you what they were told to say, or in some cases told to say nothing.

None of this is their fault and they have all lost their jobs.

On the money front – go to your bank /card company and open a chargeback – tell them you pre ordered and paid but that eaglemoss kept changing the release date but never indicated anything was wrong. Then, and this is important, tell them they shut down their website and cut off all lines of communication without any warning so you had no way on contacting them and they have now gone into administration. If they will not refund your money go to the ombudsman. Most good banks will be completely aware of the Eaglemoss situation by now and would have had many claims already.

Nope. Eaglemoss doesn’t exist now. You need to try and arrange a claim back through your bank or Paypal to get your money back.

You asked about your order 2 weeks ago and i said then as PayPal wont do anything to go to your bank / credit card company where the money would have been debited from, if all else fails go to the ombudsman, that’s what they are there for.

Tell them Eaglemoss kept moving the advertised release date and then shut off all lines of communication without warning.

I would rather they remain one off prototypes to admire and unavailable than have to go through some undignified melee to acquire one through auction as there is always someone with a bigger wallet who would leave you feeling gutwrenched at the end. If these werent commercially available i wouldnt want to know.

Ergon, I think Ben’s comment was him saying he had prototypes ‘into the 30s’ – meaning for issues into the 230s (issue numbers). Not that there were 30-or-so copies of prototypes?

Stike would have been anpther cracker to add to the collection. The best sontaran prototype we,ll probably never own. It just rubs the salt further into the wound.

It’s exciting and frustrating in equal measure seeing these! The best those on Twitter can do is promote Ben’s tweets as much as possible to show the demand is there. Certainly I’m sure everyone that uses this site would do what they can to support the collection continuing.

The Stike figurine is amazing! Really hope it appears…they had plans for Styre as well I seem to remember. Worth joining Twitter just to encourage support!

On another note Booboo has very kindly updated my collections page with my two latest custom figurines – one is a bit experimental! Check them out of you’re interested at all.

They would have taken the money as they always do at the point of order, you need to contact you bank or card company and initiate a charge back.

It does sound like Eaglemoss’ original plan was to have issues running non stop again from September when debits were due to restart for subscribers with stock being somewhere in UK ports already.

Hopefully, whoever buys the stock will have access to subscriber info to allow us to ‘complete’ our collections upto possibly 221 but I imagine it will be a free for all.

Although I got my 9th/10th console from USA in the end I know Eaglemoss stopped allowing orders for both the 9th/10th console just after I’d pre-ordered it in May.

So there might not be a huge number of those available.

I know. I wouldnt mind if they did an updated restart from Issue number 1 whoever would take the collection on as long as they kept those surprises coming.

If we are lucky enough to aquire these it,ll most probably up to 222-223 but nobody knows if or where these will show up despite the fact these were made in mass production and lieing in a port somewhwere, according to some, in the uk.

A quick addition/build – shortly after Ben tweeted these, someone asked him how far, issues-wise, things went into full manufacturing. He replied that to the best of his knowledge, everything up to and including issue 222’s figurine (Ood Elder) has made it past the mass manufacturing stage. Possibly more beyond that, but he can’t be certain.

    So:
    * 216-219 are somewhere in the UK, potentially at ports,
    * but it seems 220-222 (and maybe beyond) have been manufactured at least.
    * Mark Wright, who took over editing the magazines from Neil at the end of 2021, tweeted that they were just about to start work on the magazine for issue 222 when they were told to stand down by EM as they entered Administration. So if stocks of 222 (at least) make it onto the UK market via some channel, it will probably not come with a mag. We don’t know yet if that is also true of, e.g., 216 to 221.

But hopeful news on those final few EM-made issues, and it’s sounding positive that the range may find a new home to take it forward. Fingers very much crossed.

I did run that by him, i think he was just wanting to be sure on 216-219, its just the unknown whereabouts of anything beyond that that makes it difficult to predict a line of events.

The UK has by far the biggest market for these so anything bulk manufactured should find its way here eventually i hope.

The Figurines as we know are made in China, the mags printed elsewhere, so i suppose it depends on who buys them if they are able to bring the 2 together.

If all the work has been done but not printed maybe they could do pdf for those who want it, shame to waist it.

This is all at least hopeful!

The images that Ben has been posting are so tantalising! My fingers are practically arthritic with crossing that the collection continues at least as far as what was planned.

I did read a comment where Ben suggested if there was a photo of it there’s a chance (but nothing definite) it might be released. He also said on Twitter that he had sample “into the 230s”, so hopefully we’ll see images of those at some point.

I think pdfs would be a good compromise if printed magazines are not possible.

Thanks Booboo for keeping us updated!

I give all mine away after i have read them to someone who cares more about the magazines than the figurines.

    • The ergon

      August 14th, 2022 - 5:24pm

Each to his own but its the possibility of the continuation of the figurines thats the primary concern.

    • Doug Who

      August 14th, 2022 - 5:29pm

The magazines are always entertaining and a nice compliment to the figurines. I think they were a necessity to qualify for some retailers too. I wish the binder design had been more efficient however – they take up so much space!

By the way I meant say in my earlier reply a huge thanks to Ben for all his work and not least for keeping us informed about whats’s going on. Really hoping in these stressful times this little sliver of happiness keeps going!

      August 14th, 2022 - 5:41pm

You mentioned yourself doug the mags could be available in pdf form. Personally i read through them just the once and throw them as a lot of the content can be a repetirion of earlier issues and nothing the average who fan doesnt already know. Though there is that added value of the exclusive interview i know.

      August 14th, 2022 - 5:58pm

If your going to get these back in newsagents they need a magazine, If not a PDf would be great if possible as i liked the content.

Otherwise you are going to have to rethink packaging with with description and blurb on the box like the Character sets.

Either way if it moves forwards just a figurines i will go with whatever they decide.

Wonder how these affect subscribers, would we buy them when they are released via a third party or wait for Eaglemoss to deliver them if they can?

    • booboo

      August 14th, 2022 - 10:10pm

Eaglemoss won’t exist, once the assets have been sold the company will be wound up.

Most that could happen is any new company might be sold the customer data base by the administrators, but there are strict rules about this. I doubt there would be any automatic continuation of subscriptions but the new owner should contact past subscribers i would think

    • Prototype dalek

      August 14th, 2022 - 10:16pm

So basically the only really possible thing that will happen is the stock being sold to a third party and getting it through them?

    • booboo

      August 14th, 2022 - 10:27pm

I pretty sure that’s what going to happen to stock in the administrators possession. The administrators are under no obligation to supply orders, paid for or not even if they hold the stock.

As far as i know everyone has been made redundant so no one to send anything out.

I suppose its possible that a new owner could buy all the Doctor Who stock but lots of legal stuff to work out before that happens. All of this would need BBC approval as well

    • Anonymous

      August 15th, 2022 - 8:17am

You don’t need BBC approval to buy and sell existing approved stock. Anything not yet passed by them would, but anything not approved would. I wouldn’t have thought anything would be manyfactured without first having approval though.

    • booboo

      August 15th, 2022 - 8:39am

By new owner i meant a new licensee moving forward who would, you can generally do what you want with existing approved stock

Sounding hopeful and really appreciate this update and all the work going on behind-the-scenes (especially by Ben Robinson) to try and make this work. I’d be so happy if a way could be found to continue the DW figurines, but even getting to 220 would be great (although I’d really like Swarm and Azure!). Fingers and toes crossed.
