The Creeping Death ASDA Exclusive Vinyl LP

Following the sell-out success of Big Finish Productions Doctor Who stories on vinyl in 2018, the audio company has announced another exclusive collaboration with ASDA supermarket.

ASDA will launch Doctor Who: The Creeping Death starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate on Friday 24th May 2019. It will be released as a Limited Edition run of 1,000 copies on neon green vinyl – only available in the UK.

London, 1952, and a deadly smog envelops the capital. But something even more dangerous – and alien – is hiding within the mists. When the Doctor and Donna get lost in the fog, they find a motley group of Londoners trying to make their way home. Soon the stakes are raised as death creeps along fume-choked streets, and not everyone will make it out alive…

David Tennant portrayed the Doctor on screen from 2005 until January 2010, returning to star alongside Matt Smith and John Hurt in the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, in 2013.

Catherine Tate made her debut as Donna Noble in December 2006, and after a series and two Christmas specials, she made her last appearance alongside David on the 1st January 2010. Their on-screen partnership is generally regarded as one of the great high-points of the enduring Doctor Who phenomenon.

The Creeping Death, written by Roy Gill, is one of three stories in the latest volume of the Tenth Doctor’s audio adventures. Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume Three (Limited Edition) which is also being released in May.

Roy Gill said: “Being asked to write for David Tennant and Catherine Tate was already a huge thrill, but how awesome to hear The Creeping Death will be getting a vinyl release too! I think this nineteen-fifties tale of a band of London misfits against whatever-it-is that lurks in the smog will work beautifully on a neon green LP!”

“I’m a big vinyl fan already – I share my flat with three record decks, goodness knows how many records, and one long-suffering partner – so I’m super-eager to get my hands on a copy!”

Doctor Who – The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume Three (Limited Edition) is available for pre-order now as a five-disc CD collector’s edition – limited to 5,000 copies – in deluxe bookset packaging for only £35, with the download version for £25 (available on release).

Big Finish Productions is a production company and publisher who produce audio CDs, downloads and books. Best known for its range of Doctor Who plays (with its many spin-offs), Big Finish also produces a wide range of audio drama and audiobooks featuring the characters from Blake’s 7, Dark Shadows, Captain Scarlet, Callan, The Avengers, The Prisoner, Survivors and The Omega Factor, as well as classics such as HG Wells, Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes, The Phantom of the Opera and Dorian Gray.

They also produce original creations such as Graceless, Charlotte Pollard and The Adventures of Bernice Summerfield, plus the Big Finish Originals range featuring seven great new series including ATA Girl, Cicero, Jeremiah Bourne in Time, Shilling & Sixpence Investigate and Blind Terror.

CDs and downloads are available from the Big Finish website www.bigfinish.com

I got one today from adsa living Peterborough. Although I get there early and they didn’t have them on the shelves so I had to ask. So I don’t know how many are left. Good luck everyone

that should be a solution, but some people genuinely pick one of even two up for a fellow fan as well as themselves.

    One left in Falmouth!
Had to drive an hour to go there as the Asda that’s literally two minutes away from where I live didn’t have it – tbh I’d rather drive and pay £15 than get an exceedingly overpriced copy from eBay!

Complete farce yet again the real fans are left without where as the scalpers make a small fortune for those of us not even lucky enough to get one. Just been to Asda loving in Durham and the staff hadn’t,a clue what I was talking about . I am done putting myself through this it’s not worth the stress

      May 24th, 2019 - 6:45pm

James, I think that is part of the problem – although the press release says ‘first come first served’ if can be frustrating when you try your local ASDA (one that is listed as getting it) just after midnight, to be told ‘new releases go out at 8am’, you go again at 8am to find , like you, the staff are not aware of the product at all and have no idea if they are getting it (hence not up for checking for stock round the back). You feel that, fair and square, you’ve done all you can to be ‘first come’ but that once they finally receive or find the stock package at maybe 11am, someone else who didn’t try so hard to be there early will get the rewards. Sorry if this sounds a bit entitled. But what would make it better next time is if all participating branches had equal and proper awareness of the release as ‘a Thing’ and having stock out at the same time.

      May 24th, 2019 - 11:38pm

Gareth, I agree. Making such an item “sought after” leaves it wide open to scalpers. I thought, when I bought mine, I could’ve bought every single copy and sell on eBay, but I wanted to give fellow fans and collectors a chance, so I bought one and posted here to say where others could get one. I hope it worked for them. I really do. I’m gutted for.those that didn’t get one. I was up at 05.50 to travel 30 mins to the nearest store to me.

It’s 8:42 and they’ve already gone in Minworth before I could get one… they’re destined to spend a long time on eBay cause I’m not spending that much on them…

(I don’t know if my first post went through so reposting). My local ASDA is in the list but nothing on the racks and when i asked customer service and they called over the guy who heads up the Entertainment section, he didn’t even know what it was. Showed him a picture but he asked if it was a DVD. They told me I could order it online and have it delivered to store but I don’t think that’s the case. Will have to try eBay I reckon, I can’t get back there til late evening and they will probably be gone by then.

    Hello all.

I asked in my Local (ellesmere port) and they said 8.00 am
in the other store miles away they said On sale from midnight.

both stores have 4 copies , I have seen it, but they got into trouble for selling a DVD/Bluray early, so no sale until midnight, even if they are on the shelves.

£15, by the way. Im sure I read £20 somewhere, but must have mis-read it

I have a feeling that Asda don’t have a clue where York is. It’s not in West Yorkshire it’s on North Yorkshire.

For a company based in Yorkshire you would hope they know where it is.

news items are often sent out in advance but embargoed to a date and time so the news is posted by everyone at the same time.

the reason it was lifted is because DWM subscribers got issues early so the news was out anyway

i put that there in case anyone didn’t see see the lifted email and thought we had posted to early.

I love vinyl, I love Dr Who. But I am getting fed up with these exclusives that are so hard to get for some and so easy for others. And then sold for ridiculous prices on eBay. I’ve ordered the cd set, so might give this a miss.

I tend to agree to a point but the bottom line is its exclusivity of they don’t exist at all.

    • MJS

      May 1st, 2019 - 8:32pm

Bit of a false economy though. 1000 at £20 is £20000 quid. Big Finish and Asda won’t see anything of the eBay resale value. Release it as a regular item and you’ll have your 1000 buying it anyway + more.

    • booboo

      May 1st, 2019 - 9:27pm

that’s the whole point though, this would never get released as a “regular item”.

    • Anonymous

      May 4th, 2019 - 8:23pm

You can’t win with this one. Boo boo is right that the very exclusivity of the item is what will sell it, the demand for these on vinyl for a general release just won’t be commercial enough to warrant it happening. But the Ebay thing is just as correct. Trouble is as long as true fans are willing to pay extortionate prices on resale sites people will keep buying up the rare items and selling them high. Unfortunately there is no real answer to that problem. It’s either pay the money or just don’t buy the item. Hard for a collector I know, but I made that decision years ago and life is a lot less stressful now!

    • MJS

      May 4th, 2019 - 9:31pm

To be honest, I’d much rather buy a ltd ed vinyl direct from BF than try to hunt on down. Nearest Asda to me that does vinyl is 30 mins away
