Six new Doctor Who Collectors’ Sets + New Australia / USA Availability

Some sets are available now with more to follow from www.sanity.com.au

Customers in the USA will be able to order sets via www.amazon.com #ad

Character Options is pleased to announce the launch of six new Doctor Who action figure sets launching in late July 2020.

The range includes several action figure boxsets, including Friends and Foes of the Thirteenth Doctor set which completes the Thirteenth Doctors crew. All include highly detailed 5.5 inch scale figures featuring multiple points of articulation and come beautifully packaged.

The new collection will be available in the UK exclusively at B&M stores from late July and in the USA from www.amazon.com #ad and in Australia from www.sanity.com.au

Hotly anticipated is the Friends and Foes of the Thirteenth Doctor set. These are the first figures of companions Yasmin (Yaz) Khan, as seen in ‘Arachnids in the UK’, and Ryan Sinclair as seen in the story ‘Rosa’. The set also features a Judoon Trooper, one of the ruthless intergalactic security enforcers seen in the story ‘Fugitive of the Judoon’.

The new release of the Second Doctor and TARDIS Set features detailing from the last episode of 1969’s ten part epic ‘The War Games’, the final story of Season Six. The set comprises the Second Doctor with ripped trouser knee details and bedraggled appearance. The TARDIS comes in dark blue with iconic Second Doctor square top lamp, standard opening doors, ‘POLICE BOX’ signage and the newer low-profile base.

For Dalek aficionados there will be the two History of the Daleks Sets, which include specially created inserts as part of the heritage Doctor Who brand packaging.

‘The Daleks’ Collector Set comprises of a Twin Dalek Set and features the Daleks as seen fully in ‘The Daleks’, the second story of the very first season of Doctor Who in 1963. When seen in the early days of black and white television these Daleks were utterly alien in look and virtually identical in their livery of silver, mid grey and blue hemispheres. Their eyestalks became larger or smaller like the pupil of an eye and their guns comprised straight metal rails with inset plastic octagons. To identify each prop the casings had parallel black lines etched on, numbering them one to four. This has been replicated as accurately as possible in this new set.

The Dalek Invasion of Earth Collector Set features the Daleks as seen in the second serial of the second season, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, from 1964. Overwhelming demand and popularity meant the Daleks had to return, and this time they came to Earth. These revised Daleks were taller and more imposing with deep bases and revised colour schemes this stunning new set represents a silver eyed ‘Drone’ Dalek and the black ‘Saucer Command’ Dalek.

Hot on the heels of the Harry Sullivan figure release last year, Companions of the Fourth Doctor features a new figure of Sarah Jane Smith and two figures of Romana completing the Fourth Doctor’s companion list from 1975 to 1981. This set includes Sarah Jane Smith as seen in 1975’s ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ and ‘Revenge of the Cybermen’ stories, and Romana as seen in 1978’s ‘The Pirate Planet’ and 1979’s ‘Destiny of the Daleks’.

For some collectors, the arrival of the 1971 U.N.I.T Claws of Axos Set ends possibly the longest awaited figure release and completes the classic Third Doctor’s core U.N.I.T team of Brigadier Lethbridge Stuart, Captain Mike Yates and Sergeant John Benton. This new set features figures from Season 8’s 1971 story ‘The Claws of Axos’; the Brigadier wearing his less formal uniform with U.N.I.T beret, and Benton and Yates sporting their combat fatigues and webbing.

Al Dewar, Character Options, Creative Director, said. “This will be the first time in almost a decade where there will be parallel launches of the same product in the UK and the USA. Hopefully this new wave of toys will contain a few surprises for everyone. As always, the Character team has tried very hard to bring something new to delight, and hopefully exceed the expectations of fans and collectors alike. This time we are bringing even more to the table with six new products!”

The Sarah Jane figure can be used to create a season 23 Peri or Liv.
The Romana l figure could be used maybe for a Nyssa or Liv.
The Romana ll figure could be used for Molly or Rose or Sara or Sally or Lysandra Or another Rose.
The Yaz hairpiece could be used for an ace from the B&W TARDIS arc.

That Romana 1 is going to get customised into her white gown affair.

So if must have been an urban myth that the classic Dalek mould was beyond repair now.

I thought it was just the rememberance imperial dalek moulds that were out of action… guess we’ll have to wait until the ‘history’ collection gets to ‘rememberance’ to find out…

Just noticed on the two Dalek figures that one has an “open” pupil and the other has a smaller “closed” pupil! I know they mentioned it in the description but didnt realise they’d actually put this to the figured figures themselves! Brilliant!

Why does the TARDIS have mismatched police box signs on the top?

    • Anonymous

      May 18th, 2020 - 11:04pm

It’s actually easy to miss when watching the original second Doctor episodes in black and white but the early prop had the deliberately colour-mismatched signs. It’s hard to see but there’s a glimpse of alternating black-white background for the signs when the show finally got colour in “Spearhead from Space”: https://fractalwonder.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/pertwee.jpg
Actually if you watch the recent animated release of “The Faceless Ones” in colour you can see the mismatch in keeping with the original prop when the TARDIS is hauled off at the end (or beginning, can’t quite remember). It’s a bit harder to catch in the black and white release. Hope that helps!

The prop it was based on had mismatched signs

I don’t believe it! At long last a classic Sarah Jane figure. An fantastic addition to the classic line. Now fans can put her with either Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. Also the Yaz figure looks great. 100% picking these up

    May 18th, 2020 - 10:23pm

These figures look brilliant but I just hope this doesn’t encourage people to go on a trek from store to store during a pandemic! I understand the reason for having them in the stores to buy, but given the circumstances, an online option would have been safer.

To all of those who have to stay at home due to the virus issues, those that are vulnerable, I assume that family/friends/neighbours have offered to go shopping to get you your basic essentials, surely they wouldn’t mind also picking you up the figure sets that you want as well as your usual items?

It’s not like they will be paying for it as the shopping money will be coming from you, right?
Plus, they might understand that you’ve been couped up for a very long time & want some joy in your life, that joy is the figures, surely they would understand that? Maybe?

Fine if you have Relative / Friends prepared to do it and a B&M store is in reasonable reach but for many they are to far away.

Last year people were driving to numerous stores and big distances to get all the sets.

It Just depends on which side of the fence you are on and your own situation, many will just go and get regardless and other will be horrified at the prospect.

A click and collect service where people don’t have to go round the entire store to get to the CS desk like many other stores are putting in place would be the best option here.

    • whovian

      May 19th, 2020 - 11:20am

That’s true. Hopefully everyone that wants them are able to get them

  • Doctor Stu

    May 18th, 2020 - 10:19pm

Ok but what if you don’t have a local B&M is my only option to buy these when they’re selling for ridiculous prices on eBay?

What do they mean by The Daleks figures having “parallel black lines etched on” ?

  • 1

    May 18th, 2020 - 8:52pm

Just wow, I’m very impressed with what is on offer there but, I agree with other people, I wish I could order them online!

  • The Ergon

    May 18th, 2020 - 8:40pm

I love Yates and Bentons His and His matching outfits. It seems rank doesn,t always have its priviledges.

  • The Living Shadow

    May 18th, 2020 - 8:37pm

Beautiful! Character have done a fantastic job, but what an awful time for these figures to be released. I personally don’t wanna take two buses just to but some figures (and that’s supposing my closest B&M gets them all in).

I know selling online isn’t their thing, but I really feel like they should make an exception just this once, or I’d even rather they pushed the releases back a couple of months… I just need to hope that the current situation eases a little, or that eBay prices won’t make me want to cry (although I can definitely see those Dalek sets skyrocketing in price…)

    • Bobby Davros

      May 18th, 2020 - 10:32pm

Wait a few weeks and you’ll see these on Amazon judging by past sets.

  • The Ergon

I wonder what exclusives Big Finish have up their sleeve this year. Its all quiet on that front.

    • The Ergon

      May 18th, 2020 - 11:30pm

Quite right too. Theres enough here to satisfy me. Now we,ve got sarah jane they can do all the variants they like on her. I,d like handy pandy to come out to play next year.

  • JacksonLake

    May 18th, 2020 - 8:33pm

Love the new gun with the Judoon Trooper…but will it come with its other accessories?? (also would it be greedy to ask for a new side gun and holster since the Judoon Captain didnt deliver on that?)

    • DoctorPond393

      May 18th, 2020 - 11:24pm

The trooper figure doesn’t have the holster at all which is very strange considering the trooper in the show does.

  • Anonymous

    May 18th, 2020 - 7:44pm

These look great, but it’s a shame they’re B&M exclusive. I know that’s to be expected, but it’s frustrating when you cant drive and your nearest store is about 20mins away

  • Dcbritboy

    May 18th, 2020 - 7:34pm

Super psyched that these will be much more available in the US. Question though, is The Official North America Doctor Who Store the same as https://www.whona.com/ (hopefully it is because those folks are awesome)

    • booboo

      May 18th, 2020 - 7:41pm

they don’t seem to know anything about it so i suspect not

    • CybermanBill

      May 18th, 2020 - 9:17pm

No it’s not the same. 2 different stores. I’m sure he will buy some sets to sell at WHONA though. He got the new figures that weren’t for sale in the US!

  • Anonymous

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:43pm

I wish they could do just more dalek sets such as the movie daleks and the red dalek from ‘The Mutation of Time’

    • patchampyoutuber

      May 18th, 2020 - 7:00pm

BBC don’t own the licensing, merchandising or distribution rights for anything to do with The Dr Who Movies from 1965 & 1966. Therefore Character Options agreement with the BBC and the Terry Nation Estate doesnt extend to using references or the likeness of Characters from the ‘Dr Who’ universe which is a different franchise to ‘Doctor Who’.

Those movies origianally were the product of British Lion and Columbia which is now encorporated into Sony

    • Bobby Davros

      May 18th, 2020 - 7:15pm

Those DIOE Daleks are easily customisable into movie Daleks. You might even enjoy doing it in these leisurely hours.

  • GuyTheZygon

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:32pm

WoOow – been waiting for a classic era Sarah-Jane for Years, UNIT set also fantastic news!
Re: the “completing the Fourth Doctor’s companion list from 1975-1981” note, however, I maY be mistaken, but I don’t recall Adric, Nyssa and Tegan having been released!? TheY maY have been at the the tail end of Tom’s 7 Years, but still belong to that era – so we’re not quite there! 🙂

    • The Outcast

      May 19th, 2020 - 4:30am

Probably counting Adric, Nyssa and Tegan as 5th Doctor companions, which is understandable considering they spent far more time with 5.

  • Andrew Lewis

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:26pm

I’m a bit annoyed that we can’t order them online, any idea as to the reasoning behind exclusive to B&M? They must give character a good deal I guess? It would be better if we could get them on Amazon, maybe using FBA.

    • booboo

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:34pm

The B&M business model has always been to get people in-store, they sell nothing online, and they are the only large retailer who would commit to stocking the product, they are the new toys r us, its always been this or nothing for the last few years.

    • Andrew Lewis

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:41pm

That’s fair, but I do wonder if it will be more expensive to pay eBay prices, or jump on the Amazon US links as soon as they are available and see (if first of all) how much it will be to ship.

    • booboo

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:45pm

problem is with USA is that you can get walloped for import costs and i suspect there will be an arrangement where they can’t ship to UK, but then after the USA being in the wilderness they now get the best of it.

    • Anonymous

      May 18th, 2020 - 9:30pm

I appreciate the B&M model but given the current situation, they should at least consider online ordering even it its a temporary measure. They are effectively encouraging 1000s of fans to leave their homes in order to get unnecessary products….or buy on the grey market which unless you are lucky can be expensive.

  • Peter Burns

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:14pm

Booboo do you know when you will put the b&m sets in there individual posts on you’re website

    • booboo

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:18pm

as soon as its appropriate, treading a thin line on this one

  • Simplyzak

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:12pm

launching these in June seems very odd given the current climate.

Stores could likely have these sitting in the back rooms for a long time as some stores might not see this as an essienstal thing to get out on the shelves over other stock.

another big issue is people relay on travelling to find these products each year. And with everywhere else other then England still on very tight travel restrictions, its going to be a scalpers dream (especially if they’re ones who don’t care for the lock down rules)

B&M really should have pushed this back till around august /September or released these online.

    • Josh Smith

      May 19th, 2020 - 11:42am

No! we need these ASAP. pushing them back only means less fans will be able to see and enjoy these. We can’t out lie on hold just for a virus

    • booboo

      May 19th, 2020 - 11:57am

some of us have to for the sake of others.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I saw these on twitter the other day but seeing the proper images just makes me want them even more!!!!!! i can’t wait for these however i don’t have the money yet so i hope they don’t come out at the start of june! but i am sure knowing b&m they will be delayed any way so no need to panic! also my season 14 is coming soon so this has been a great day!

  • whovian

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:08pm

I actually want ALL of them. Great to see another Sarah-Jane Smith figure. Really like Romana version 2. Not a fan of Ryan in the show, but still need him for my 13’s set (Speaking of which, I still need to get Graham)

  • bryan

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:03pm

OOh pity B & M dont have a website to pre order from. With Covid 19 around still, many people ,like myself, are govt shielded with letter not to go out until end of june. I had this once and am still recoverin, at home, so no chance of getting one,

I would not ask or expect someone to shop for non essentials. I wonder how well the Ebay scalpers will get on, I imagine quite well. As thats my only place to get them.

Shame these were not held over untill July/Aug or even september.

They look amazing, Benton, Yates both romanas the Brig and 2nd Doctor look very well detailed. You can see soo much love and care has gone into making these

    • Kevin225

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:28pm

I completely agree. I didn’t manage to get the last batch. There didn’t seem to be any in the Bristol area pre lockdown and it didn’t/doesn’t seem appropriate to be traipsing around B&M’s looking for them ever since. I wonder if adding more to the range should be deferred until the Autumn when hopefully we are all in a better place and we will have a reasonable shot at finding them. Otherwise they become even more valuable to the scalpers.

    • Wolves master

      May 18th, 2020 - 7:39pm

Kevin you been to b&m lately as I know the wolverhampton store has had the dalek sets and tardis back in stock in last few weeks

    • The Ergon

      May 18th, 2020 - 8:32pm

They can,t move for last years sets on Amazon and Ebay and most reasonably priced. Its that ‘i must have these now’ mentality that sparks those frantic hunts. You can nearly always get them.and there will always be those that get them first.

    • Kevin225

      May 18th, 2020 - 10:22pm

Wolvesmaster – unfortunately Wolverhampton is a bit far from Bristol and I’m not sure would count as an essential journey!

    • Wolves master

      May 19th, 2020 - 9:49pm

Have you been to your local as they could have them back in

      maybe tomorrow

  • Wade Durrwachter

    May 18th, 2020 - 6:01pm

The only inaccurate thing I immediately notice with the Daleks Invasion of Earth Saucer Commander (or Supreme if you like to call it that) is the Eyestalk needs to have the silver tubing just before the Eye Discs and the Eyeball needs to be glossy. Think of how they did it for “The Dalek’s Master Plan” Supreme for the silver paint apps on the stalk. But honestly it’s just a minor detail missing. These new figures look fantastic, and I’m so happy they revamped the paint work for the Daleks!

  • Shaun

    May 18th, 2020 - 5:57pm

Hurrah! A classic Sarah at last – I’d given up hope that we would ever see one. Can’t wait to display her with Harry from last year and the four pack Genesis set that came out many years ago.

  • Anonymous

    May 18th, 2020 - 5:54pm

    These are great!

But the description for Ryan and Yaz is incorrect, isn’t it? Or am I remembering wrong?

That Yaz is from a different episode, for example.

    • Danny Stannard

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:50pm

Next to no one will get them, as the collectors will buy them bulk and they’ll appear on ebay for silly prices, as usual.

    • booboo

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:55pm

last years sets can easily be bought for close on if not less than retail.

    • Anonymous

      May 18th, 2020 - 7:44pm

Booboo Sadly j haven’t seen a 4th Doctor Shada set for less than £30 which I can’t afford

    • SJF

      May 18th, 2020 - 9:17pm

Yeah the descriptions are wrong. Both Yaz and Ryan are from It Takes You Away. Which is why I always thought it was odd that they did Graham from Arachnids in the UK because his It Takes You Away costume is more iconic, and looks closer to the Primeval body they used for him. Hopefully we’ll get a variant at some point.

  • Brian

    May 18th, 2020 - 5:48pm

    • booboo

    • Andrew Lewis

      May 18th, 2020 - 6:24pm

Yes please, I’d be very appreciative if you could help with that! I work full time and just won’t have chance to get out and look. I’d happily pay you retail price plus P+P for all the sets if you can.
