ut

Its that time of year again with SDCC 2016 about to start

Wednesday saw previews night between 6-9 pm, that’s 2-5am in the morning for people in the UK.

From what we can see nothing new was on show.

It starts on Thursday at 9.30am which is 5.30pm in the UK so no late night waiting for any information.

If anything is on show it should soon become clear.

The only Doctor Who items we know of so far are the 2 Titans, Ghost 12th Doctor and Glitter Tardis, Titan Comics, an electronic 20 questions Tardis, 5.5 “x 7” giant mug and Rory’s Story Cubes.

This year we have noticed the “exclusive” title has been dropped in many cases and replaced with “first to market” which means it is only sold there first.

I suspect all eyes (where Doctor Who is concerned) will be on the Underground Toys Stand where, assuming its on show, something “big” is coming (and no its not the mug)…

To friends the world over, let me say I agree with you on several issues about these complaints. I agree, the UK should get CO toy releases that are the same as other countries. We are all Doctor Who fans. The price point on these large box releases are much too expensive as well. I ordered the 13 Doctors set today, from WHONA in the US,after much debate. I am in the US myself, but the $ 138.25 cost, shipping factored in, made me wait until now. But…it has sold out of stock once already. I had better get one now, while restocks are in. Should be here by Tuesday/ Wed next week. I certainly hope CO is taking note of the demand. The potential for more characters to be made is there. Better business decisions on CO’s part would be welcomed. I mean…we still do not have a set from ” The UnEarthly Child.” Not to forget the Adric with ” anticipated exploding death” action feature.

This thing is $300! I really, really want it but that’s incredibly expensive. Especially since the 11 Doctors sold for half that.

It’s definitely annoying that it’s taking so long to get anything remotely related to this figure set, I’d kill for even a little bit of information now. But we’ll definitely get this at some point right? I mean they couldn’t not release it here, right? Not a set like this

Personally I will not purchase this set if it doesn’t come to the UK. There is no way I’m paying £50+ for delivery, plus having to wait 2-3 weeks.

If Character isn’t interested in bringing it to the UK, then I will not be buying. This is the wrong way around. The UK should be getting this first, but clearly not.

I totally agree with you, funny thing is I wouldn’t be bothered about paying £140 if that was the price in the uk, but the fact I’m having to pay import charges and delivery cost for a BBC programmes merchandise is just disgusting..

So I guess its not coming to the UK. Hopefully it will but now it looks like it won’t. I just want this set for doctors 1-4 and 6 mainly because for me either new figures or new detail.

On the eBay listing, does the Global Shipping thing mean that it won’t get stopped at customs so you only have to pay the amount there and no import charges? Thanks

Yes, you pay the Import charge upfront & it goes straight through Customs with no problems. You will still be paying far too much either way.

The postage seems to be half the cost than on their site so at least this way you know exactly where you are.

Personally though no one in the UK should even have consider buying this from the USA

Strewth, 299.99 AU$ on Popculcha! Oh well, at least the Aussie fans can get hold of it now, they’ve supported the series almost as long as the UK fans and they often get the short end of the stick as regards broadcasting and merchandise.

In the continued absence of ANY information as to pricing and availability of this set over here, I’ve now spent my “SDCC goodie money” on the Saga Alana and Marko and Black Series Obi – Wan figures – items I was hoping to get hold of before this boxset was belatedly announced, and which *are* now available in the UK. And I’ve possibly *still* spent less than if I’d tried to get hold of this set. Way to lose customer loyalty, Character/Underground.

its probably down to where its best to import / export from, in reality its probably very complicated

there is also probably a very big difference in UK businesses having there products manufactured in China as opposed to importing Chinese goods from China

If its UT branded it seem to go to the USA and then imported from their which its why its more expensive, if its Character banded its the other way round

….Eh. As much as I like the look of this set, I feel I’ll have to pass at the price point. I still have my 11 doctors set from whenever that came out (2012?) and have picked up the War and 12th since they’ve been released.

The one thing that could have gotten me to buy it is if the 12th Doctor had his waistcoat, very much still want that in my collection of figures.

That’s how much it originally cost! That’s not ridiculous especially if it’s free shipping. That person isn’t making any money. And with shipping people in the US are paying more. That’s how much it costs!

Character hold the master toy licence but clearly Underground toys are part financing or something.

So you have Character wanting their profits and Underground wanting theirs so that bound to effect the final price

Obviously why Character branded products are much cheaper ala b&m sets but when UT are involved they are more expensive

not difficult to see what’s going one here

I’m seeing a lot of hate towards Americans here, I think everyone needs to chill a little. It’s not they’re fault the boxset came out there early and I know it’s annoying having to wait and not really knowing what’s happening with the boxset, but it is coming, we just have to be a little patient!

Yeah, im American and we didn’t get the Tombaker boxset with Toy, The regeneration boxset dvds, the Monster 3 pack, or the 10th doctor 3 pack rerelease…plus you guys can actually run into all the Living Doctors they live there instead of America

    • booboo

      August 5th, 2016 - 8:04pm

you can buy all of those from UK sellers without the knowledge of getting walloped for 20% vat and £8 handling charge

right now you can get the monster set and 10th doctor set and the 3r doctor set which will cost you Less including post than whona are selling the 3rd doctors set for on its own

      £21.99 + £4 international post = £25.99 = $34 in total, whona $34.99 + post

People bought the regeneration set JUST to get the figure yet the USA gets a septate realise

like it or not The USA is in a far better position all round than then the UK and its been that way for some time

    • booboo

      August 5th, 2016 - 7:37pm

there is no hate towards Americans, just the fact its for sale In AMERICA, big difference, and the UK has no official info on it at all, this site if full of UK collectors, and they are, understandably frustrated

This page is in the all time top 20 unique page views for the site, and 9th in terms of total comments, thats a big deal, and i can tell you that’s many many 1000’s of people

3000 people have voted in the poll and only about 1 in 5-10 visitors vote

    • Mad Psientist

      August 6th, 2016 - 9:55am

Ah well, it’s an easy choice then. If this set is going to be rarer than hen’s teeth to find in the UK, and is going to be commanding Underground prices if/when it *does* arrive, I think I’ll pass. As much as I’d like to have it, it’s a box fulla repaints in the final analysis, and I’m getting a bit tired of the “Chase me then pay through the nose” approach to figure releases that UK fans and collectors have been presented with in the last few years.

To be honest I don’t really expect any better from Character or Underground at this stage. I am disappointed the BBC allows this to continue to happen, though. It’s the UK market that pays the licence fee that allows the show to be made in the first place, after all.

    • Anonymous

      August 8th, 2016 - 12:58am

An American company has commissioned the master toy license holder to make a set, so it gets sold in the US first. I don’t see what the problem is with that, if anything what the fans are demanding comes across as the problem.

    • Lets do Knitting

      August 8th, 2016 - 8:26am

Undergound Toys are a UK company, they just have a large distribution set up in America.

And these fans are customers, something I think people tend to forget

Its been that way for a while, Australia has it in stock as well now.

    • AngryDrashig

      August 10th, 2016 - 7:13pm

Simple solution …the BBC should insist on any new item of merchandise it licences being made available in the UK….its UK Licence payers who pay for Dr Who to be made in the first place. I don’t care about this – we’ve had a Doctors set here for a fraction of this price. Its not being able to get the Topps cards that’s annoying me.

  • Voldermort

    August 5th, 2016 - 6:47pm

If Toys’R’Us do get these sets on their website, the one bonus being that sending anything over £30 and yo qualify for Free Delivery.

It is getting ridiculous though that we in the UK hear nothing, yet in the US they already have the set

I think when it does finally reach us, its going to be like gold dust getting hold of set – and any put on Ebay will be double the retail price.

Went into hull Toys R Us recently who told me that they “hadn’t received any” Doctor Who products since well before the collector series was released. This means I was sadly unable to buy the NotD 8th or the flight control TARDIS. Clearly some places have more of a whovian market than others. Unfortunately they are one of the three major remaining UK retailers to sell Doctor Who figures – and one of the two to sell brand new ones. We just have to get in quick and order online.

Someone on WhoNA has posted proper pictures of the figures in this set out of the packaging and I must say they look brilliant. The First, Second and Third Doctor variants are excellent figures although it is a shame that the jacket on the Third Doctor wasn’t resculpted but it is still neverless a welcome variant. The season 18 Fourth Doctor is a brilliant figure and is easily one of my favourites along with the previous three figures. The Fifth Doctor is an okay figure but is average compared to the others, the Big Finish Sixth Doctor looks amazing for a repaint and is another favourite of mine. The differences on the Seventh Doctor are much more noticable out of packaging and is an improvement over the figure that was included in the Eleven Doctors set back in 2010 although it is still a shame that no solemn hatted head was included in place of the hatless head. The Eighth Doctor is disappointing due to the sloppy paint on the face which fails to ressemble the blood that was on his face in The Night of The Doctor, the War Doctor is a nice variant and is in some ways better than the original release. The Ninth Doctor figure is “Fantastic” and another one of my favourites but I can’t recall him ever wearing dark grey trousers in The Empty Child or The Doctor Dances. There has been some speculation claiming that the Tenth Doctor figure has been finally been given a brown suit but going by pictures it is unfortunately the grey suit, however the trench coat is in a lighter shade of brown this time around. The Eleventh Doctor is an okay figure and I like how his tweed jacket is in a different colour than the original release, the Twelfth Doctor figure is also slightly different with his crombie coat being painted in a navy blue colour and the black shirt has been painted in a more glossy colour, however it is unclear if the colour is dark blue like it was in Time Heist or black like the figure we got last year. All in all thie set is very good, despite some figure being a tad disappointing nevertheless I am looking forward to eventually picking this set up when it arrives.
